4:30 Funny how Phoebe talks about how hard is to even damage her Pokémon but doesnt even use the Pokémon whose main gimmick is "good luck dealing damage to it"
I can understand why the developers wouldn't want to have anyone on the elite four to have Shedinja, at least not to anyone but maybe the first battle. Let's assume you go in blind, and then you come across a Shedinja, and you have no one who has a damaging move to him. Or if you did, they were already knocked out by the previous trainer. I would feel SO ROBBED. Shedinja isn't a very common Pokémon, and good luck figuring out how to get one without looking it up, thank goodness for the Saphire pokedex entry.
@godknightomega Yes, but you get one by evolving a nincada and having an empty slot in your party, and all of us know once you have six pokemon, you aren't going to have an empty slot.
@@emperorcubone 12:25 i don't think it would have been nessesary to add those 4 in the mix. In the DLC they use strategy for there teams so the defenetly would't be the worse at any Rank.
Absolutely, cause I’ve genuinely loved every generation of Pokémon. There was always something in the games that I would find myself enjoying and having loads of fun with… until gen 9. I can’t even explain why, but it’s just so bad, I can’t get into it no matter what I do or how I try to change my perceptions of it. Sadly, overall, the worst generation.
They should have hotfixed her original fight to swap Glimmora and Kingambit during her original fight too, to ensure we don’t see that and think that she’s incompetent. But that is the vibe they want to give off so 🤷🏽♂️
Keep in mind that Paldea has multiple Champions, and all of them have to defeat Geeta to become Champion. Which wouldn't be a problem except that she claims that _it's impossible for her to hold back._ Which means she's doing her best and every Champion in Paldea has defeated her at her best. She's not Top Champion. She's Bottom Champion.
@@RaynmanPlays She says that, but it's likely supposed to be either a case of simple trash talking, or else a sort of understood "impossible to hold back, within the constraints I place on this fight". Like a nuzlocker not holding back within the ruleset of a nuzlock. Probably meant to be the sort of thing that would be understood in-universe, otherwise it really wouldn't make sense for Nemona to still consider Geeta a better trainer than herself.
I hate how many important trainers ever since gen 6 have teams where two or more pokémon don’t have a full moveset. Seriously, these are supposed to be boss level trainers, what was GF thinking?
I know; even if they never use anything besides their two STAB attacks it's the principle of the thing! They should at least on paper have the option of doing more, even if it never comes about.
In defense of Alder, he wasn’t the acting Champion up until the finale, where he came back because the league asked him to and was fresh out of retirement after a spiritual journey. It’s implied that he’s still rusty during his fight with N and doesn’t get his groove back until the post game. Also, I’m glad there was no shade thrown directly at Avalugg. It’s a good boss Pokémon, Gamefreak just refuses to let NPCs use it optimally; simply giving it Sturdy and Mirror Coat would’ve made it tough to deal with.
He's tough all of one time when you don't know what to expect! But it's almost impossible to travel through Sinnoh without hard counters to everything like a Luxray or Weavile for Drifblim, or Gastrodon/Torterra/Gliscor for Steelix, or even Infernape/Lucario for it AND Lopunny. So not only is the challenge gone immediately, but he didn't even do it on purpose (and also stole Pokemon from Gym Leaders like Geeta did!)
@@emperorcubone Heck, you can sweep Flint with only one Pokemon - Hippowdon. Not only is it extremely bulky on the physical side (Aside from Drifblim, Flint only uses Physical moves), Hippowdon also has the moveset to insta kill Steelix, Infernape and Rapidash with EQ and it can learn Crunch by level up. Heck, you can even give it the HM Rock Smash and then it can deal with every single one of Flints Pokemon.
I would agree more with Koga's use of Venomoth...if it wasn't synonymous with him. Kinda hard to argue against him using a Pokémon he's had from the start
No, see I disagree with this cross-pollination; Venomoth is his signature in the Anime, not the games. Just like of the times we see Giovanni across the series only in a minor fraction does he have a Persian, (and those are only in the most anime heavy portions) yet people still associate it as his signature Pokemon for this Ground type trainer. So when Koga didn't even use the Bug in Gens 1 or 3, I don't think it counts...
Especially since it was his ace in Yellow, which seems to be the canon version of the Kanto games since Red has all three starters in GSC, and Yellow is the only Gen 1 game where you can get all 3 without trading
Honesty, Geeta just sucks as Champion... If her team was: - Palafin (Flip Turns into Glimora) - Glimora - Gholdengo (Prevents most hazard removal) - Baxcaliber (Hassel's ace should be Garchomp) - Armarouge/Ceruledge (Violet/Scarlet version) - Kingambit ... It would have been a whole lot better, giving about as much fear as Cynthia's team. Only weakness is the repeated Steel and possible Ghost type, depending on the version.
As for why Hassel's ace should be Garchomp. The difference with him and the rest of the Elite Four is that you can spend type with him in and out of class, and he still sees you every now and then out of school. You see him more with Gible than any other Dragon type Pokémon. Besides, you tend to see most Champions with the pseudo legendaries
Hmm, honestly like any ranking the bottom and top would be easiest but sorting out the middle would be a nightmare, trying to figure out who is slightly more or less mediocre than the other "just okay" options...
Shout out to Geeta for being an easy sweep with Skeledirge. Most of her team is easy set up with Torch Song such that Glimmora can be brute force OHKO by Shadow Ball. I do have to give credit to Diantha in my current Dragon-monotype run of X, she’s been a challenge for me to get through thanks to her team setup. Highly recommend Kalos if you like Dragons and a challenge!
The fanmade mods to the pokemon games where the gym leaders and elite 4s actually feel like what they are supposed to be with movesets and even item usage. MAYBE one day we can get a "hard" mode in official pokemon games or at least have gym leaders and elite 4 members feel like competitive fights not just some roadblocks to move on to the next part of the game.
This is why I love fangames. I still don't know why gyms and elite 4 members don't have a full team. At least the later gyms (maybe even gym 3 and everything) should have a full team
The craziest part to me is that they DID have a hard mode in the Unova games...except it was locked behind needing to finish the game first for no reason, and then they just never brought the idea back. It's one thing to not make forward progress; it's another to actively regress.
@@Gunther69420 Yes correct like it's understandable the first gym maybe the 2nd but after that the gym leaders should have 4+ pokemon and the last 3 should automatically have 6.
@@H1_R3Z I completely forgot about that and yes because of how it was structured it kind of defeated the purpose. They never even tried to bring it back.
We need a mode between “Never played Pokémon before” and “Battle tower perfect IV’s competitive BS” I want to feel challenged without having to dedicate three years to breeding a perfect team.
Imo Koga's lack of poison stabs makes sense if you see narrative trainers not as type specialists, but as _strategy_ and _flavor_ specialists Koga is a ninja and does all the annoying hax. He's kind of a relic of a different kind of pokemon character design that didn't really develop beyond gen 2
The fact that Geeta replaced her Gogoat with a Kalos starter and gave it a moveset that makes it hard countered by a literal tumbleweed, yet despite that she *still* kept Avalugg...
Should've replaced Gogoat with the actual GOAT Tangrowth. Give it Regenerater and just swap it out as needed. (I don't actually know if Tangrowth is in S/V. If not, it should be.).
Not great when the Champ is so underwhelming; honestly this would've been a time where it would be appropriate for our rival to have been Champion just before us, since Nemona probably could've done better!
Also if I can be nitpicky, her saying she's utterly incapable of holding back feels like it's meant to sound menacing, but to me it just makes her sound like a novice. You can't control how you battle? Really? And you're the top dog?
@@ganoninthepit You’re just being petty and nitpicky now. Geeta meant that she loves battling so much that she always has to give it her all. It would be a very great line too, if it weren’t for how much her team sucked.
@@emperorcubone Geeta didn't steal anything. Her team is built to represent the different biomes of Paldea: Espathra=Deserts, Veluza=Seas, Gogoat=Mountains, Avalugg=Mountains, Kingambit=Bamboo grove, and Glimmora=Area Zero.
what frustrates me about Geeta is the fact that there was a plethora of other powerhouses she could have used that we might not have encountered at that point. She could have had a Gholdengo or palafin on her team which coincide with the mechanics of the game like exploration and multiplayer, and she could have had armourouge or ceruledge depending on the version (armourouge in violet and ceruledge in scarlet since you would most likely have their version's counterpart). that would have made her team very cool.
Even before the DLC they knew Geeta was such a fraud that they went actually Nemona, Sada, Turo, and Arwen are also champions. And Nemona swept her so bad that she became disillusioed until she meets you recognizes your potential and makes an entirely new team.
Oh, this was a great idea. Is it possible for you to do a same thing but ranking the gym leaders and their respective places in the games that would be really awesome.
Prior to watching this I made my own predictions to see if we had the same idea or close too and we pretty much did. I also love your comment about Trace. Regarding Geta I do agree her champion team is pretty bad but I always felt Nemona was the true champion battle especially since you have to battle her right after Geta and her team is just more balanced.
And, morale of Sinnoh region is: If you make a Pokémon with only one weakness - fire (Steel + Psychic+ Levitate in gen 4),this means you should not add fire pokemon to the game besides starter and ponyta
Perhaps, but there's also the Heatproof variant. So should we ban Ground types from Sinnoh too? (I really hope not because they have some of my favorites!)
What always annoyed me is that all of these pokemon only have 3 moves, like why are you nerfing the ELITE 4? Give them 4 moves and decent ones at that to be at least challenging. 6:10 to be fair there aren't many ice types in Hoenn to begin with considering it's more tropical. Maybe it should've been some other type instead like Grass or something. 7:30 Soooooo we're still Flint then even though it's the devs' job to put more fire types? 12:00 Just another reason why GF and TPCI need to take longer on these games so they're not so terrible, also buff Glimmora's ability to lay toxic spikes whenever it is hit and NOT just physically otherwise special attackers can just laugh at it.
Man o man; a Grass type trainer in Hoenn could've been crazy! They could've borrowed one of Sidney's Grass types and Steven's Cradily and then thrown in a Ludicolo & Breloom, it would be fantastic!
I’m surprised Raihan wasn’t mentioned for the 4th elite four spot, as good as his gym team is his championship team is absolutely abysmal due to the simple fact that he tries to use three different weathers on one five-Pokémon team Torkoal sets up sun only to be followed by a hydration goodra that needs to set the rain for itself, followed by a turtinator that needs to re-apply the sun to not have it’s STAB be cut in half, then flygon is the only Pokémon able to set sandstorm which often leads to it not getting set up at all or not lasting long enough to be useful to the final duraludon Bro cooked with his first team but this one just came out burnt
tbh, while Raihan is supposed to rival Leon, i feel like he gets overrated massively, especially since Kabu is implied on his league card to also be Elite 4 level and post-game Sword and Shield its implied Piers is actually stronger than Raihan, since Raihan used G-Max and Piers still almost beat him, despite not using G-Max.
Yeah, at least he has the idea of using weather strategies rather than JUST type specialties, so I feel like that's why people like him more than he deserves.
With geeta, i have to make up head cannons to explain that because it's just so bad. My personal one is the idea that she doesn't hold back, and that's the problem. Not long before you got there she didn't restrain herself and she horribly injured someone's Pokemon. So when she fights you she is legit shook and can't battle properly at all. It explains it well enough imo.
Have you done a vid on the strongest type specialists yet? Ground, Water, Fire, etc. it doesn’t matter if they are gym leader, team leader, or Elite Four, or champion.
One thing I always look for is the elite 4, im always excited for the music and how tough they actually are, Pokmeon Black 2 and Pokemon Ultra moon have tough teams but have kick @$$ themes. I felt intimidated from those 2 before the fight even starter but felt like so much more was on the line
I still remember how difficult the original Elite Four were when I first played Blue back in the day. One of the hardest series of bosses I'd known by that point 😅
Honestly, you could probably exclude the BB League since they're double battlers, which requires such a different approach to team composition when compared to single battles that it would be apples and oranges to compare them.
The fact that with Gen 5 elite 4 only having 4 pokemon, they are barely even talked about. It's weird, they are definitely the strongst, but im pretty sure they could stomp 70% of all other elite 4 members.
I was going to say that it was odd that the blueberry elite 4 members weren’t included, but when you think about it, what would be the point considering that none of the members would have even been considered for the worst anyway.
nah pokemon should do the elite four like how they did the elite 4 in the indigo disk strength wise cause they were actually challenging with pokemon i used having maxed out ivs and evs and i was 20 levels above them still struggling somewhat. It actually felt like a challenge compared to the sword and shield elite 4 where I just swept through with ease.
Also, for as admittedly poorly executed as the concept was, Flint WAS in fact, a Fire specialist, not just with type moves, but themes and strategies. It was a weird, stupid, roundabout way to try to make the E4 less boring after 3 Generations of "One SE STAB and sweep" boss trainers (Ice Beam/Blizzard/Ice Punch/Icy Wind get put into in-game teams SPECIFICALLY to cheese and dismiss the mandatory 4x weak Dragon guy). And he DID in fact have a relationship with Volkner, so it made sense that they'd share in their thought process and strategies as true best friends and rivals. But at least they TRIED something different, and made Flint memorable to boot.
Maybe the Indigo Disk ones should be counted since you do still fight them and a champion. Let alone the players would normally have to work their way up to face them. Though their trails do feel more gym leader like.
They could have, but they would not have ever made it into the actual list, their difficulty makes them a fairly good league. It could also just be because they aren't technically a league for a region, just a club. It doesn't matter too much.
You definitely did the right thing by not including the BB E4. I feel like they don’t count because the BB Academy is a prestigious boarding school, not a Pokémon League. A school having its own E4 and Champion was a cool idea, but they aren’t part of Unova’s overall E4. I’m also glad you pointed out Geeta having Kalos Pokémon. I have a theory that Geeta’s team could’ve been a hint at Pokémon Legends A-Z. Considering how she insisted on having Gogoat and Avalugg when it seems like she could’ve had a full team of Paldea Pokémon. Then, in the DLC, she continues the trend of swapping out one of her Pokémon for a starter Pokémon. And she chose Chestnaught. Seems weird she would swap out her Grass type from Kalos with another Grass type from Kalos
I remember reading an article somewhere that Geeta should've broken the mold when it comes to Ace Pokémon. Because of her Ace's ability to lay Toxic Spikes, it should've been her FIRST Pokémon. For my own addition, she also should've had a Pokémon with that one move that revives a fainted Pokémon to get another chance to lay out T. Spikes of necessary. Might be a bit of an annoying move, but at least it would make her feel like a threat.
Tbf to the “losers from the indigo disk”, they probably have some of the better E4 teams in recent games. They have competitive abilities, use items like focus sashes, have high leveled Pokemon and use good move pools. Some even using actual strategies. Eg Amarys having a slow team due to being steel type so has Reuniclus who knows trick room or having am empoleon who counters her fire weakness, something Crispin also does by having a grass type to counter his fire types ground or rock weakness.
In defense of Lance and Drake using unevolved forms of their aces: Pure Dragon types have a different niche than the Dragon/Flying final forms, they aren't swept by ice moves as easily if they're monotype So I think Dragonair in Lance and Shelgon in Drake make a lick of sense imo Lance also has such a great team with dragon -like Pokémon and can keep a reasonably more balanced type pool
You forgot to mention N when you were discussing champions, since he beat Alder he became champion by default and the battle with him in the castle is the pre-post game champion battle of BW
While N is functionally similar to Kukui and Hau, where they’re the final battle of the main story, and I do think he should’ve been mentioned even if he wasn’t up for discussion for this topic like most other champions, much like Kukui and Hau he’s not the champion. He turns down the position immediately, defeating Alder purely to prove a point and to have the champion out of commission for Team Plasma’s siege of the league. The records function of the PC even makes the distinction, beating N registers your team under “first game cleared” while beating Alder is under “Pokémon league victory”.
Geeta's team is bad, but it doesn't bother me as much because the Nemona battle right after definitely comes across as SV's 'real' champion battle. Her smugness is definitely out of place though, given that she's not a difficult fight. I do also have to give her some pity points because her team representing the parts of Paldea is a really nice touch imo (especially since that explains Glimmora being her ace even if it was a poor gameplay decision) As a character though, I think my least favorite is Kahili just because even though never meeting E4 members before the match was the norm in past games, they moved away from that in SM, except with her for whatever reason. I remember walking in after fighting everyone else and just kind of thinking 'who tf is she lol'
I think Geeta works well in concept as a state-mandated Champion whose job is to be a final obstacle without being too hard for challengers. Her smugness works well as an intimidation and to make those who beat her feel even better about their victory. The problem is that the concept doesn't translate well into gameplay and the only saving grace is Nemona being the true Champion fight
They do hint at Kahili a few times iirc. I know that giant hotel in Alola is owned by her dad and I'm pretty sure Kukui mentions her once or twice when reminiscing on his trial days. Will have to look into that again. But yeah i like Geeta. She's cool enough as a character, and I don't care as much about team composition for NPCs, as long as the champion isn't throwing a togepi or something at me, im not invested enough to rage over it (besides most media really only acknowledges their aces as important). Like I get wishing she was improved, and apparently she was in dlc. But i think the fervor around her team reached an odd level. Probably because SV are deservedly controversial to begin with.
I love Geeta as a charachter and her role in the game, and while she does clean up the team in the dlc, she really should have had a team of Palafin lead (flip turn 1) Glimmora Toedscool Ceruledge Dragapult Kingambit (ace) This team isn't neceasarily difficult to beat, but it suits her and is alot more difficult than both versions of her team imo.
I love how all the others are "this person is so weak ugh do better" and then Flint it's "come on man, commit to something, what are you doing" I find him so funny, two fire types and then some randos (of which only Drifblim has fire vibes - it's a hot air balloon at least) but hey he taught them some fire moves so it's fine right? He reads as a guy who just reaaally commited to being the firey guy and when he realised there's only two fire types in the region panicked and added the first Pokémon he randomly caught - and none of their types are even at all confusing! Meanwhile Aaron, yeah I can sweep almost his entire team with one fire attack but his drapion absolutely confused me as a kid since it looks like a bug but isn't weak to fire - and since no other prominent trainer has it and you don't meet it in the wild, you might never have met one before you fight Aaron. But Flint? Both Drifblim and Steelix are very prominently featured as gym trainer Pokémon and every other random female NPC has a lopunny. Plus even if you somehow don't know by now, they all look exactly like their type, you're not gonna guess wrong. I guess they didn't want to make him too difficult but then just? Pick another type and give him 4 Pokémon of that type and one other one like Aaron and Bertha? ... I'm nostalgic now, I miss the days when I didn't know anything about Pokémon so a drapion could confuse me to no end
@@emperorcubone yeah it would be like Malva having a male aswell as her female pyroar and a second Talonflame aswell as the first one she already has just so she can have all fire type Kalos Pokemon but not the starter Pokemon
While this is technically true, they do use Pokemon that are used by Gym Leaders, which i personally find annoying. Like Diantha uses a Hawlucha, just like Korrina, while the other Fighting type in the region doesn't get used by any major type specialist (Pangoro). So just swap Hawlucha out for Diantha or Korrina (Pangoro evolves at level 32, which is exactly the level her ace Hawlucha is) + Pangoro would be a hard counter for Aegislash and a Psychic type for Korrina as well.
Personally, if Geeta didn't wait till the DLC to do this, it would have been much better. Like, if she pulled out an improvement in the Academy Star Tournament, doing the swap around, it would have been better both as a lore reason for her quote "I am unable to hold back." Reason I say this, the only other Champion Ranked Trainer you meet is Nemona, who is looking for a rival. And Geeta would have wanted Nemona to have someone who was able to face off against her as an equal. But, until you came around, nobody else could have beaten her team, so when you showed up, she likely was likely at the point where she had tried to hold back just to have Nemona have someone on sort of equal footing. Than, once you save the region in the base game, she could have been like "Ok, he is definitely ready for a full out battle." And just put Glimora out first and save Kingambit for last. Wouldn't have even to do the Flying Terra Type even back than. Just switching up the order would have been a massive improvement.
You know... maybe its just because its been so long with the games... but ive kinda got this idea in my head about why Geeta's first battle was so bad... The whole thing with pokemon scarlet and violet is it being a school and in a way Geeta is the final test... however that test needs to be able to be PASSED by students... so she's forced to hold back. She uses some good pokemon to show them off and perhaps even do exactly what we have done and recognize the strategies that could be done better. But the battle is easier so that there can actually be students that pass and reach champion rank in less than 1 in 8192 students. Plus gameplay wise, Nemona is RIGHT after her so she's basics considered more the "final champion" than geeta during the main story. (Plus the true final boss after that) But by the time of the DLC you've trained so much she doesn’t need to hold back anymore so thats why her team seems so much more improved.
A rigged test is not a worthwhile one; if the school passes thru everybody then their accreditation is worthless and completing the course means nothing when they just hand it to you. But I see what you mean about Nemona...
Paldea's League is officially the first League managed by the regional government. As it's a public service, it needs to be accessible to everyone, and even then not every Trainer will reach Geeta so the number of winners is small. I mean, Nemona is the only Champion among all the Trainers we meet. Unfortunately this kind of concept doesn't translate well into gameplay
@@emperorcubone yeah that is true this was more my headcanon. I meant less of a "rigged test" and more "if Geeta actually went all out very very few trainers would actually be able to reach champion rank and thus eventually the entire league becomes basically pointless as... well all I can say is her team in the DLC actually kinda scares me and if I DIDN'T have the training from 3 contents worth of pokemon plus my knowledge of Pokémon already I feel like it'd become a struggle to actually beat her with a playthrough team up to that point. Though really my points about nemona and the true final bosses are more accurate to why I think it is the way it is... I was just trying to give some kind of in-universe reason for why Geeta seems to use her team backwards despite being champion Edit: also I forgot to mention that you're right about the whole "What's the point if this is just handed to you" but I would like to point out the entirety of the game and the students "final test" of sorts... is a SUPER vague "find your own personal treasure" thing which literally is so hands off and can't be really graded except by going case by case and vibes. As a now college graduate with an education degree... this school is already so hands off that it sounds like they would practically be giving away passing grades anyway because how do you define what someone's "personal treasure" is as a teacher?
Lance is a nightmare in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. But only on the first time you fight him. He heals a lot. He has three Dragonites that have a legally evolved
Geeta is the closest I've ever come to bulldozing through a Champion's entire team with just one pokemon. All you need is a good fire/ghost type (and SV generously provides you with TWO options there) and you can completely massacre everyone but her ace.
Geeta is not a shock. But, we all agree her bad cvhoice would have been saved if she led with Glimora... Also drop Gogoat for... anything. As to the E4, ehh, game wise, i'd say your spot on.
The reason I think Geeta is weak is due to story. In a School based region they are trying to teach us instead of going all out. Players like Iono, Larry and Rhyme do in face have strength on them but when you get to the Elite 4 it’s more of a “ Final Exam “ if you will. Rikka gives you your interview and proceeds to test us on our strength. Geeta is also testing us. It’s also an excuse to give someone a Glimmora as an Ace to show how strange she is. After all she wields a Pokemon that can be found by the hundreds in Area Zero. A special place we’re not allowed to go to. Obviously in Blueberry Acadamy she doesn’t hold back finally having her ace be her starter and ending it all with Kingambit
There's also the fact that each of the Elite 4's typing match up with each of the Titans, with Geeta's Tera Rock Type rounding out the set. Had they made Geeta the Steel Type and Poppy the Rock Type instead, Geeta would have benefited so much more because then her ace would easily have been Kingambit (a Pokemon most players would not likely have encountered unlike Glimmora where you can find Glimmet in a handful of caves well before beating all the Gyms). Also, I like to argue that Geeta isn't actually the true 'champion' fight, but rather Nemona is immediately after.
I feel like the losers from the Indigo Disk still should’ve been included. They’re called the BB Elite Four, and they have a champion. And Kieran’s fight was actually pretty fun, especially since the whole DLC was double battles! 😅
Poketubers: Type-specialists are boring! Just send out your 'mon with a super-effective move and hit the win button! Also Poketubers: CaN yOu BeLiEvE FLiNt'S tEaM? TwO FiRe tYpEs??!! WhAt a LoSeRrRr!! smh.
*happy Acerola and Bea oshi noises* (for real, i just realized that the majority of my fav Elite 4s are ghost type specialists, but ghost isnt my fav type) owo
The worst champions, in my opinion, are Diantha and Geeta. Diantha was too easy of a champion boss fight, and Geeta was the same. I don't remember playing Black and White that much, so I don't recall Alder. The only reason Lance was hard in the first-gen games was the lack of Pokémon and move pool diversity. Fire types are one of my favorite types, and when I was a kid, I was disappointed that Gen 4 had almost no fire-type Pokémon. If you don't count the starter line, the Ponyta line sucked anyway.
At least in theory Diantha could be good, since she uses a wide variety of Pokemon, and actually picks them all from her own region, with the exception of Gardevoir who can Mega Evolve which is the central focus of the whole game, so it all fits Kalos perfectly! (As you might say being too easy also fits Kalos perfectly...)
Diantha is theoretically good, but the experience system in X/Y was so utterly broken, even if you turned off EXP Share, that you'd quickly become overleveled for the entire rest game. The math in Pokémon is so tight that even just a couple levels makes a huge difference in difficulty. Try fighting her with a team that is level 60 at the highest, and you won't say she's so easy.
You didn't fight Alder in B/W (N/Ghetsis was the "champion" fight for purposes of ending the story), and he's replaced by Iris for B/W2. He is champion in B/W postgame though, and he has a full Unovan team. Granted that team isn't very _good_ (seriously, the pokemon that need to be traded for themselves to evolve, that are bug types, one of which DOESN'T HAVE U-TURN DESPITE LEARNING IT BY LEVEL UP, a druddigon, VANILLUXE, and his only two real pokemon are a bouffalant with a complete meme ability and a volcarona with HYPER BEAM, UNIRONICALLY), but he still has some idea of a team.
Gen1er here. I may be biased, but I’ve always thought Lorelei was the most “ideal” and “example” of an elite 4 member. While not the best, she uses such a balance of all that makes a great trainer: brute force, strategy, coverage, status, and team diversity. Especially considering she was way back in gen 1.
Interesting observation about Koga is that in the gen 1 games, he uses 2 Koffing and 1 Weezing in Red and Blue and only uses the Venonat line in Yellow. However, he doesn't use the Koffing line anymore from gen 2 onwards. However, Janine uses a Weezing on her team, which probably has been a gift from Koga. Ideally, they should not have given Koga a Forretress and swap out Magnemite from Jasmine in favor of Forretress. They should have given Koga an Umbreon imo ''When agitated, this Pokémon protects itself by spraying poisonous sweat from its pores.' Yeah... Flint i agree with (You can swpee Flint with Hippowdon alone). Your argument that they could have used other typings for Flint as well, is a good one, however, it doesn't include Dragon (Since the only Dragon type introduced in gen 4 that isn't a legendary is Garchomp, which was already Cynthia's ace to begin with as well). Dark wasn't really an option either, considering we only had 5 Sinnoh Dark types as well (One of which was already the ace of Aaron). I feel like Normal was the best option then... as we have Staraptor, Bibarel, Lopunny (Which he already owns anyways), Ambipom and Lickilicky (With Porygon-Z getting added in Platinum). What is extra annoying as well, is that Flint changed his ace from Infernape (In Diamond and Pearl) to Magmortar (In Platinum). Ngl, Hau improved massively in-between Sun and Moon and the Ultra Games, in terms of teams. They replaced Komala with Tauros (We all know how much a of menace Tauros can be if you haven't prepared for it and Hau's specifically not only had Intimidate, but also packs Zen Headbutt for that fighting type coverage) and they also added a sixth Pokemon for him with Noivern. The one thing i hate about Elite 4 members/champion, is if they share a mon with a Gym Leader (Like, its kinda excusable in gen 1 and 2, but later its not really anymore).
Bruno having an onyx I could understand for two reasons 1) obvious anime connection 2) it was an instant answer to the obvious weakness his team had, which was flying. With that being said. Yeah, he should have switched out one of them for a primeape or politwrath. Although I lean more towards primeape because politwrath is instantly weak to two of the three gen one starters while neutral to one.
These are possible points, but considering he didn't show up in the Anime until over a year later that doesn't seem the highest priority, and surely the bigger threat was the overpowered Psychic type that was dominating Gen 1...
@@emperorcubone I'll agree with that for his Johto team (give him a heracross with megahorn) and post game team in Kanto. Pregame Kanto however didn't have much to take on psychics. Ghost was out of the question because Agatha and bug pokemon weren't the strongest against psychic with one even having a weakness to psychic types. Flying pokemon were more common (and most likely to put on your team) and easier to deal with
It always annoyed me when boss trainers had dupes. The Unova E4 stuck in my mind because their typings followed a similar rock paper scissors format like the starter Pokémon types 👊 is weak to 🔮 and strong against 😈 😈 is immune to 🔮 and strong against 👻
Surprised Raihan wasn't talked about more. Dude had some of the best type coverages. But anyways, Geeta would've been the worst Champion if not for Indigo Disc, so gotta go with Diantha here
7:38 I want to say, dragon was not an option really for a late game tyoe specialist in diamond and pearl, since I believe the only dragon types in the Sinnoh Dex are the Garchomp line(maybe the dragonite line or kingdra, but i don’t really remember). There’s fsr from enough dragon types to build a team of 5 dragon types in both diamond and pearl and platinum.
I would say Technically, narratively speaking, N is the Champion of Unova as of BW, since the battle against Ghetsis is just to resolve its plotline, while the battle against N feels more like a Champion battle
Out of curiousity with the Geeta thing, I went and checked the other Champions and how many pokemon not from their gen they used. Blue: 0 (obviously) Lance: 6 (whole team is Kanto pokemon lol) Steven: 1 (Skarmory, had this as 0 before but was corrected by a commenter) Wallace: 2 (Tentacruel, Gyarados) Cynthia: 1 (Milotic) Iris: 2 (Aggron, Lapras) Diantha: 0 (counting Mega Gardevoir as part of Gen 6) Kukui: 3 (Braviary, Snorlax, Magnezone) Hau: 3 (Tauros, Noivern, Flareon/Leafeon/Vaporeon depending on your starter) Leon: 2 if you pick Scorbunny/Sobble, 3 if you pick Grookey (Aegislash, Haxorus, Seismatoad) Geeta: 2 (Gogoat, Avalugg) Kieran: 5 (Dragonite, Grimmsnarl, Incineroar, Politoed, Porygon-Z) So Geeta’s inclusion of 2 pokemon outside her generation is pretty par fro the course. The issue with her more is what pokemon she decided to swipe (why Gogoat and Avalugg of all pokemon?? they’re not that strong) and the fact that she doesn’t utilize her own region’s pokemon well. Which is basically the same as stated in the video lol, I just wanted to see how typical Geeta’s team was with other generation members.
@@Mariokemon oh man, let me fix that. skarmory is one of those pokemon where I tend to forget what gen it’s actually from, apologies. thank you so much for the correction!
@@Roseatedramon its a very common mistake. Skarmory is used by 2 prominant trainers in Hoenn, Winona and Steven, and is also used by quite a few birdkeepers. Meanwhile, not a SINGLE trainer uses one in GSC. Its only a version exclusive on 1 route, thats completely optional. Majority of players might not even see one
I think you should have also included the Blueberry League + Kieran because they’re called the Elite Four and Champion, but I don’t think any of them would be considered the worst
You know what's crazy, Geeta was such a huge disappointment to me that I forgot she was the champion of the region. I feel like her team, even in the dlc, was disappointing as well. Like, instead of Dragapult, why not give her Baxcalibur? She could've had one of the Charcadet evos, Palafin instead of Veluza... Her team could've been so cool, but they flopped
4:30 Funny how Phoebe talks about how hard is to even damage her Pokémon but doesnt even use the Pokémon whose main gimmick is "good luck dealing damage to it"
She is talking about normal and fighting type moves
I can understand why the developers wouldn't want to have anyone on the elite four to have Shedinja, at least not to anyone but maybe the first battle. Let's assume you go in blind, and then you come across a Shedinja, and you have no one who has a damaging move to him. Or if you did, they were already knocked out by the previous trainer. I would feel SO ROBBED. Shedinja isn't a very common Pokémon, and good luck figuring out how to get one without looking it up, thank goodness for the Saphire pokedex entry.

I know; even if they never use anything besides their two STAB attacks it's the principle of the thing! They should at least on paper have the option of doing more, even if it never comes about.
They’re too busy with those N64 looking trees in the overworld 😂

@@emperorcubone ...He did have a Venomoth in Gen 1 though oh wait he has it in Yellow. Oops 😅
Venomoth is also the ace of his own daughter in those games, he could leave it to her and use something else
Especially since it was his ace in Yellow, which seems to be the canon version of the Kanto games since Red has all three starters in GSC, and Yellow is the only Gen 1 game where you can get all 3 without trading
@@AscendedXSaiyan Yeah, and Yellow is part of Gen 1, so you're still correct.
The indigo disk trainers are all top 3 of their ranks
The fact that their battles are double battles when you (and your team) are used to singles helped them a lot, but really good teams
Honesty, Geeta just sucks as Champion... If her team was:
- Palafin (Flip Turns into Glimora)
- Glimora
- Gholdengo (Prevents most hazard removal)
- Baxcaliber (Hassel's ace should be Garchomp)
- Armarouge/Ceruledge (Violet/Scarlet version)
- Kingambit
She is fixed in the dlc. It's ok for me.
Random idea, we already know the worst, why not rank them out. Break it down into 5 videos.
That's because Skeledirge is an amazing starter! One of the best in years!

Geeta annoys me, from her poorly constructed team to the sarcastic sounding comments in the champion fight.
Nemona kick her butt already. She more of a regional manager of the league.
Even her title la primera sound snarky when she already been beated
And, morale of Sinnoh region is:
If you make a Pokémon with only one weakness - fire (Steel + Psychic+ Levitate in gen 4),this means you should not add fire pokemon to the game besides starter and ponyta
Perhaps, but there's also the Heatproof variant. So should we ban Ground types from Sinnoh too? (I really hope not because they have some of my favorites!)
@@emperorcubone yes
@@emperorcubone no because all NPC Pokemon have the ability in the first slot (which is Levitate in Bronzong's case)

That would be too op
I’m surprised Raihan wasn’t mentioned for the 4th elite four spot, as good as his gym team is his championship team is absolutely abysmal due to the simple fact that he tries to use three different weathers on one five-Pokémon team
Torkoal sets up sun only to be followed by a hydration goodra that needs to set the rain for itself, followed by a turtinator that needs to re-apply the sun to not have it’s STAB be cut in half, then flygon is the only Pokémon able to set sandstorm which often leads to it not getting set up at all or not lasting long enough to be useful to the final duraludon
Bro cooked with his first team but this one just came out burnt
tbh, while Raihan is supposed to rival Leon, i feel like he gets overrated massively, especially since Kabu is implied on his league card to also be Elite 4 level and post-game Sword and Shield its implied Piers is actually stronger than Raihan, since Raihan used G-Max and Piers still almost beat him, despite not using G-Max.
It still bothering how kalos elite 4 in anime had MEGA EVO for each of them but not in the game
I read the title and immediately said Flint with out thinking. A fire trainer in D&P was a decision gamefreak made.

Hilariously, if Geeta's shtick was to use the ace pokemon from the gym leaders, that'd be more interesting than whatever we got instead.
The fact that with Gen 5 elite 4 only having 4 pokemon, they are barely even talked about. It's weird, they are definitely the strongst, but im pretty sure they could stomp 70% of all other elite 4 members.
So what I'm getting from this video is that the Unova elite 4 are actual threats
I was going to say that it was odd that the blueberry elite 4 members weren’t included, but when you think about it, what would be the point considering that none of the members would have even been considered for the worst anyway.
Sydney and ice elite four from hoenn. Blaziken just used fighting moves to clear.
Blaziken was steamrolling that elite 4 (aside from Drake and eventually Wallace in emerald)
nah pokemon should do the elite four like how they did the elite 4 in the indigo disk strength wise cause they were actually challenging with pokemon i used having maxed out ivs and evs and i was 20 levels above them still struggling somewhat. It actually felt like a challenge compared to the sword and shield elite 4 where I just swept through with ease.
7:03 wdym "overcompensated by giving him too much fire"? Do you want a fire specialist or not? lol
Yeah this guy is all over the place
9:17 i recall him having underleveled dragonite in gen 4
5:31 animes Kogа with his ace Venomoth
Great vid would love to see one on gym leaders
Actually did that one years ago!
ua-cam.com/video/h7xLj63B4Zc/v-deo.html
IF her team was a hint at Z-A then that's actually pretty cool; I guess we'll have to see if a relative of hers shows up!
10:47 that smile though 😂
Someone is going to have to tell Scott's Thoughts that he has to replace Bruno from the bottom of the tiering list.
In defense of Lance and Drake using unevolved forms of their aces:
Pure Dragon types have a different niche than the Dragon/Flying final forms, they aren't swept by ice moves as easily if they're monotype
So I think Dragonair in Lance and Shelgon in Drake make a lick of sense imo
Lance also has such a great team with dragon -like Pokémon and can keep a reasonably more balanced type pool
I will love that all game end in a tourny like gen 8. All your rival, gym leader n elite 4
I was disappointed forst game wasnt like the anime
@@CaptainObliviousV Precisely. So many people seem to miss that detail.
hey, I like the indigo disk guys, Lacy and Darden almost wiped my team, and they were level 100, minted and hyper trained, and iv trained
Geeta's team is bad, but it doesn't bother me as much because the Nemona battle right after definitely comes across as SV's 'real' champion battle. Her smugness is definitely out of place though, given that she's not a difficult fight. I do also have to give her some pity points because her team representing the parts of Paldea is a really nice touch imo (especially since that explains Glimmora being her ace even if it was a poor gameplay decision)
As a character though, I think my least favorite is Kahili just because even though never meeting E4 members before the match was the norm in past games, they moved away from that in SM, except with her for whatever reason.
Fun Fact about the Paldea Elite 4: They all fill one of the titan’s types that didn’t get a specialist besides Rock, and Geeta’s ace is rock
I love you, Emperor
Not sure I'd call Toxipex "easily acquired"
I love Geeta as a charachter and her role in the game, and while she does clean up the team in the dlc, she really should have had a team of
Palafin lead (flip turn 1)
Glimmora
Toedscool
Ceruledge
Dragapult
Kingambit (ace)
This team isn't neceasarily difficult to beat, but it suits her and is alot more difficult than both versions of her team imo.
I love how all the others are "this person is so weak ugh do better" and then Flint it's "come on man, commit to something, what are you doing"
I find him so funny, two fire types and then some randos (of which only Drifblim has fire vibes - it's a hot air balloon at least) but hey he taught them some fire moves so it's fine right?
As few Pokemon the kalos elite 4 have atleast they have no repeat Pokemon
That would be hysterically bad if they had HALF of their team be the same thing! *cough Lance *cough...
@@nickdentoom1173 but doesn’t Pancham need a Dark type Pokemon to be in the part to evolve into Pangoro aswell
(Plus the true final boss after that)
But by the time of the DLC you've trained so much she doesn’t need to hold back anymore so thats why her team seems so much more improved.
I was just trying to give some kind of in-universe reason for why Geeta seems to use her team backwards despite being champion
Edit: also I forgot to mention that you're right about the whole "What's the point if this is just handed to you" but I would like to point out the entirety of the game and the students "final test" of sorts... is a SUPER vague "find your own personal treasure" thing which literally is so hands off and can't be really graded except by going case by case and vibes.
Gotta love my Skeledirge!
@@emperorcubone It was Ceruledge for me 😁
I didn’t even started the video yet, and i just know that we’re going to talk about malva..
12:28 they are 6 pokemon competitive items movesets evs ivs and double battles
If they are "going easy on us" Why does Rika kick me out after one "wrong" question?
@@Solanin0803 Because you’re not in battle. You failed her interview. She sees your not worthy of this Final Exam 😂
Geeta changes her starting and last Pokemon in the tournament you can do in the main city.
10:08 idk, I had more trouble with Drasna and especially Siebold than Diantha.
I feel like the losers from the Indigo Disk still should’ve been included. They’re called the BB Elite Four, and they have a champion. And Kieran’s fight was actually pretty fun, especially since the whole DLC was double battles! 😅
My favorite Elite Four is Unova, but I think the Blueberry Academy is a very close second
I only liked half of the BB Elite Four, but maybe that's just me...
So… your favourite E4 is Unova and second is also Unova

We still dont have a normal, grass, electric, and fairy elite four.
The Grass one baffles me; like, do we not want all the starter types to have an Elite Four member?

@emperorcubone I believe that Diantha also has one of the highest leveled teams when you fight her initially, which is very weird.
Ive always been a fan of the elite 4 teams being more of a theme than just 4 more gym leaders tacked on.
They should have given Koga an Umbreon imo ''When agitated, this Pokémon protects itself by spraying poisonous sweat from its pores.'
Yeah...
The only problem with Koga having Umbreon is that would leave Karen with even fewer Dark types...
@@emperorcubone That is also true.
Bruno having an onyx I could understand for two reasons
1) obvious anime connection
2) it was an instant answer to the obvious weakness his team had, which was flying.
The Unova E4 stuck in my mind because their typings followed a similar rock paper scissors format like the starter Pokémon types
👊 is weak to 🔮 and strong against 😈
😈 is immune to 🔮 and strong against 👻
Random question but what’s the music at the beginning of the video called?
Kalos Route 4 Music
That may be true, but Poison, Flying, Normal and Dark would all have more than enough...
I would not pick Koga, but I also have PTSD from Minimize and Double Team.
Blue: 0 (obviously)
Lance: 6 (whole team is Kanto pokemon lol)
Steven: 1 (Skarmory, had this as 0 before but was corrected by a commenter)
Wallace: 2 (Tentacruel, Gyarados)
Cynthia: 1 (Milotic)
Iris: 2 (Aggron, Lapras)
Diantha: 0 (counting Mega Gardevoir as part of Gen 6)
Kukui: 3 (Braviary, Snorlax, Magnezone)
Hau: 3 (Tauros, Noivern, Flareon/Leafeon/Vaporeon depending on your starter)
Leon: 2 if you pick Scorbunny/Sobble, 3 if you pick Grookey (Aegislash, Haxorus, Seismatoad)
Geeta: 2 (Gogoat, Avalugg)
Kieran: 5 (Dragonite, Grimmsnarl, Incineroar, Politoed, Porygon-Z)
So Geeta’s inclusion of 2 pokemon outside her generation is pretty par fro the course. The issue with her more is what pokemon she decided to swipe (why Gogoat and Avalugg of all pokemon?? they’re not that strong) and the fact that she doesn’t utilize her own region’s pokemon well. Which is basically the same as stated in the video lol, I just wanted to see how typical Geeta’s team was with other generation members.
steven has skarmory, which is from gen 2
@@Mariokemon oh man, let me fix that. skarmory is one of those pokemon where I tend to forget what gen it’s actually from, apologies. thank you so much for the correction!
@@Roseatedramon its a very common mistake. Skarmory is used by 2 prominant trainers in Hoenn, Winona and Steven, and is also used by quite a few birdkeepers. Meanwhile, not a SINGLE trainer uses one in GSC. Its only a version exclusive on 1 route, thats completely optional. Majority of players might not even see one
The indigo disk four, went kinda hard.
I think you should have also included the Blueberry League + Kieran because they’re called the Elite Four and Champion, but I don’t think any of them would be considered the worst
Yeah, honestly I doubt they'd show up on either list or best or worst, so their inclusion is really a non-factor either way...
That about sums it up!
Yeah, some Paldea would have been pretty great for the Champion of Paldea, huh?
