One of the biggest points towards Larry is also the type change itself. Since you were able to change out your team after every battle, if you fell for it, you would end up fighting his whole elite four team with the team you fought him with at the gym (most likely having at least one fighting type to take care of all his normal types). Good luck facing his E4 team with that.
The cool thing about Cynthia, is that her team consists of some of the rarest/hardest to obtain Pokémon of the region. Garchomp needs you to cacth and train a low catch rate gabite in victory road or find a secret cave and get a gible. Spiritomb and Milotic both have insane catch methods you may not even know of without googling. Roserade and Tokegiss combine friendship and a rare stone. Plus hatching an egg in the latter's case. Lucario needs you to get an egg from a skippable side quest and use friendship. This doesn't just speak about Cynthia's abilities as a trainer but also makes it so it's possible you have zero experience from her team going in.
"But you’ve got to respect the hustle for having two full time positions in the same region, single handedly holding up Paldea upon his own overworked shoulders!" And that's not even counting his third salaryman/office worker job. Paldea takes him for granted for single handedly holding up its economy.
Totally agree with how classified the Elite Four. I’m pretty sure in the DLC BB League is referred to as a school club. Still enjoyed playing it but they aren’t members of the elite four proper
I mean what really hurt them most is that they specifically said the BB Academy is in the Unova region; if it were somewhere brand new (like Kitakami) then there could've been an argument...
I am definitely not surprised that lucian is #1 for his league. I almost wiped against him while i had way less trouble against cynthia, surprisingly. Also Alder should definitely be counted as champion. He has his own theme and you face him after beating the elite four.
You face him *the second time, which many players might not even bother doing. But besides he never would've been the best anyway so it's not like it matters much...
Something interesting I learned recently that adds to Cynthia’s infamy: Apparently in the original Diamond and Pearl the trainers used the same battle AI as the wild Pokémon, meaning every notable battle was against someone with the IQ of a Bidoof (this was fixed in Platinum). I don’t know what’s more hilarious, that people were still having a hard time with Cynthia even though she was basically doing a coin flip every turn, or that her team is able to carry its weight so well in spite of that with the vibes of a mom getting fed up and doing their kid’s project for them because they don’t think the kid is doing a good job.
I like Karen because she's based. Not for her battle style, but because she uses what she likes and doesn't give a hoot what other people say as she enjoys using what she uses.
What’s really funny is that the blueberry academy e4 is one of the stronger elite fours in the franchise. It doesn’t make sense to be included as they aren’t a real e4, but it also helps with the balance lol
super true, agree with this list and i was super interested in it the whole time lol. i respect your choice to not consider alder as a champ bc he's more of a post-game trainer to me too and almost acts as an ex-champ
also another point against the BB League is that their top dog, drayton, is drayden's grandson. why do i point this out? because drayden had to search the world in order to find a worthy successor in iris, which means that drayton didn't make the cut for him either. and he was THE CHAMPION OF THE BB LEAGUE before kieran came along. to be fair, it could be that the BB 4's specialty is double battles and aren't as good at singles and therefore weren't accepted into the actual elite 4 of unova (and also why kieran got swept by nemona but could hold back an entire town + penny and arven long enough for you to beat nemona and pecharunt; he's good at handling multiple pokémon at the same time, not as good at 1 on 1s) but in the context of the video i don't think that actually matters.
This is a good point! I kind of just figured that since Black and White 2 came out in 2012, his grandson probably just wasn't born then and showed up somewhere in the last 11 years or so, but who knows what the timeline really looks like so you may be right!
I wish more Elite 4 members had more story involvement. Having the champion involved in the story is a good start aka Blue as a rival in the Kanto games, Lance helping you beat Team Rocket in Johto, Steven actively helping you on your journey via the Devon Scope and helping you beat the evil team at the space station, Cynthia giving you quests in Sinnoh etc. The only Elite Four members that are explicitly referred to as Elite Four and actively get involved in the story are the Alola four. At least 3 of the 4 since Kahili never shows up, but Hala and Molayne show up as side characters in the story, Acerola has an entire arc with Team Skull, and Olivia is Olivia nuff said. I don't count the Paldea Elite Four as being involved in the story. Rika shows up as the interview lady. Poppy is actively absent from the story. Larry is the only one who has any story involvement at all and he's best boy. And the only way you get Hassel involved is by going out of the way and do Art class which is not mandatory. I understand you are using team strength to make your judgement. I'm not against that. Lucian was a pain in both versions of Sinnoh aka gen 4 and the ILCA nightmare
I think that IS mostly a Champion specific thing even though others do it occasionally. I can see that for sure, but I also didn't love knowing the entire Elite Four of Paldea before arriving; I had met literally everybody with the only surprise being another gym leader. I suppose they weren't exactly plot relevant, just trotted out to be introduced to you, but I think a good mixture is nice so there's still some mystery left!
Albeit I agree with you, I do disagree about how much the Champions were involved: *"aka Blue as a rival in the Kanto games,"* If only he had a character arc, yet he acts exactly the same both at the very beginning of the game and at the very end. And no, his evolution in the Johto games doesn't count because we don't see it happening, he's just fully different at that point, with the character arc itself happening out-of-screen. *"Lance helping you beat Team Rocket in Johto,"* Barely, he only appears twice. *"Steven actively helping you on your journey via the Devon Scope"* He doesn't. You also only meet him a couple of times and then he's gonne till the Champion battle. *"Cynthia giving you quests in Sinnoh"* However, she fails at stopping Team Galactic even when they are right in front of her (see: their Eterna City HQ). Oh, and saying that she didn't know doesn't make her better because then it means that she cares little about the citizens of her own region.
@@collinferguson6259 I count Flint as more of a cameo much like the tiny scenes Rika and Hassel are sprinkled into gym scenes here and there, or Lorelei in the FRLG Sevii Islands. No story involvement but good for their own character development
@@toumabyakuya and that's your opinion. That's fair. In my brain it just makes sense if they appear more than once outside of one or two small scenes like cameos. Like Flint, pointed out in another comment, showing up at the Battle Tower or Lorelei showing up at Sevii Islands. It does nothing for the story but it's great for their individual character development. The champions, on the other hand, appear multiple times throughout the story and actively interact with the player. That's what story involvement looks like to me. I can agree that sure Lance barely appears and Cynthia doesn't help against Team Galactic. But they make an appearance that affects the story. It doesn't have to progress their own character arc via their appearance. Character arc and story involvement are two separate things. That's what I was talking about.
Wikstrom has not one but two amazing steel types in Scizor and Aegislash. It's a shame that he was done dirty by XY being so easy and cutting corners on the trainers' teams. He would definitely be fearsome if XY had a Hard Mode.
I actually beat Cynthia the first time I fought her, which is a story I cannot recall beyond that. All I know is that Flint stalled me for WEEKS, and I got a high when I beat him. This high carried me through Lucian and got me through Cynthia. This was back before I knew about her reputation, so when I DID learn about her rep, I couldn’t believe how my younger self took her down first try.
Yeah, the only way you’ll see hazards in doubles is if it’s either an innate part of the Pokémon (Glimmora & Toxic Debris) or a secondary effect of a damaging move (Hisuian Samurott & Ceaseless Edge)
I am one of the people saying Cynthia isn't that hard and I stand by this. Her team is great, no doubt, but having to fight Lucian right before her makes it so that you are prepared. Also, Garchomp is in ALL versions only a thread on paper. Milotic is the real problem, especially in BDSP. Given the way the game builds up to the first champion fight, Blue and Leon are much harder champions, with Blue probably taking the crown there. It's pretty easy to beat the E4 in Gen 1 (once you get past Lorelei), but Blue's diverse team can trip you up. Other than that I totally agree with you, I just would've loved a little more differentiated opinion on the champion spot other than "Cynthia's best. Shut up." At least a look at the contestants.
Surprised at the lack of Lorelei fans. She has 4 of Kanto's strongest Pokemon. (And a Dewgong.) I guess her movesets are mid but asking the player to face RBY Amnesia Slowbro and an OU-viable Lapras set right out the gate is wild.
@@emperorcubone Fair enough. And in all the remakes she's a pushover. I was really thinking of strictly RBY, where most of her "counters" were inconsistent outside of almost exactly Jolteon lol.
The only way I beat Cynthia in my BDSP playthrough was on Garchomp. I kept swapping between my Crobat, Bastiodon and Clefairy since the three attacking moves it had had no effect on one of them. That and a boatload of healing items when I was against Milotic. I actually lost to Lucian first, so it was certainly a good choice picking him for the best fourth spot. Man, that Elite Four caught me off guard.
I feel like any time people find trainers hard, they have 1 or 2 types they never use. Having a strong ice attacker gets through most of Cynthia(I mean at that stage you might have a mon like articuno that wouldn't be hit with the various strong ground attacks). People hooted about ultra necroza but I didn't realize I was going to fight it when I did and beat it with sylveon that was under leveled and easily. I had full hp without using items...I am also a novice at best in battling. This is where you will always find people saying these harder POKEMON battles weren't hard because all pokemon battles are really not hard.
BDSP Lucian was the first battle I lost in a pokemon game in like a decade BDSP decided to make the elite 4 CRACKED and I wasn't prepped for the jump in difficulty Yachi berry Garchomp and Storm Drain Gastrodon were menaces
I used Piplup on my team for the Sinnoh remakes and it almost costs me losing against Cynthia during the 1st try, even knowing her team. I had to use potions and revives for the first time! I bet it would have still been easy against any other Champion.
Gen 4 ai is set to 0 so all of you that lost to her in pearl and diamond are just bad she’s got the mindset of youngster Joey. In platinum it was changed so if you lost there it would make more sense.
Used to be a subscriber, but then when you called out m and j TV for unnecessary drama on your last video I unsubscribed, and now I'm letting you know I am not watching your videos, and if you have any drop in viewership, it's probably because you are creating controversy for no reason. You were really good. I enjoyed your videos. No need to call out other youtubers for no reason. I enjoy both. I enjoy all if I can. What I don't enjoy. It's unnecessary controversy and blatant disregard others for views
It's funny you say Grimsley has his weaknesses covered and whatnot when all he had is zero bug resistance and two non-STAB weak moves (aerial ace) on some mons against fighting in the gen fighting was the most hideously overpowered by far while you say you think Marshal's team of fighting types with insane coverage that can both withstand hits while dishing out brutal damage is bad because of "monotyping" (even though again, fighting was one of the overbearing types alongside dragon in gen 5 which is why gen 6's fairies had to curb them). If we were honest, the crown would pretty much always go to the steel specialist (Molayne, Poppy, Wikstrom) simply because of how unless you have an achilles heel typing against it, especially in gens 2-5, it just resisted you to hell and back with dual typings giving it brutal coverage. Out of 3 brothers, I was the "fire" brother, and I never understood why steel types were supposed to be strong but that was just cuz I always had the fire starter with special moves targetting steel's weak special defense.
You can’t really say people are wrong for finding Cynthia easy when your team and levels dictate the difficulty. I guess I’m saying that cuz I beat her first try which will happen when you are comparable in level. If we’re taking about remakes then yeah, she’s very annoying to beat in bdsp especially that milotic
I feel that Geeta should have the top spot at champion rank. No, obviously not her team as you're becoming champion, but her updated team after The Indigo Disk. Even with Avalugg still being on that updated team for some reason and also no held items, her team overall is significantly better than Cynthia's purely due to Gen 9 power creep
Mmm, no make-up tests; I was ONLY looking at the initial team they face us with, otherwise we could just go with the Pokemon World Tournament teams for everything. The only exception was seeing them more than once, like BW2, the Ultra games etc. I would consider both, but still just the first time of both.
So happy you put Cynthia as the best champion. It was quite hard for me watching Journeys because of hype around Leon and cannonicly making him No. 1 while we all know who is the queen. 🙃
Well being the best in that one particular tournament is differnt than being the most well-rounded trainer. Leon's strength was that skillset, while Cynthia was nearly as good at that and better at other things, like archeology, etc...
Saying the Blueberry Academy shouldn’t be in the running is literally just so every other region has a chance. They were so good, their teams are viable in competitive
Nah, Cynthia is overrated. Half her team is easy to beat: Milotic falls fast to Electric, Roserade is weak to the Best Starter, Gastrodon falls immediately to any Grass, Togekiss also falls quick to Electric. The only three Pokemon that are dangerous are Spirtomb, Lucario and Garchomp, however, even then they are easy to manage with if you pay attention to what she's doing.
I wasn't meaning disrespect, I was just letting them know that there are people with other opinions out there! While I don't know that Milotic can always be one-shot by Electric, that is a strength of Sinnoh giving you some easy options for it so you're right on that one!
@@emperorcubone Eh, no problem! I just prefer to know when somebody is talking about me. And I wouldn't call "giving the Final Boss Pokemon easy to beat" an strength.

BDSP decided to make the elite 4 CRACKED and I wasn't prepped for the jump in difficulty
Yachi berry Garchomp and Storm Drain Gastrodon were menaces
I never understood the not full moveset Pokemon in the newer games
People who say Cynthia wasn't that hard clearly have never played Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
I used Piplup on my team for the Sinnoh remakes and it almost costs me losing against Cynthia during the 1st try, even knowing her team. I had to use potions and revives for the first time!
I bet it would have still been easy against any other Champion.
Unova takes up the first 3 slots and final goes to Lance or Lucian imo
Mmm, disagree with Lance. He's gotten worse every time he appears! (not as Champion)
@@emperorcubone I guess my mind might be stuck in the past with Lance and my gripes with fighting him in Fire Red so that’s valid
Nice video!
Do the four Cipher Admins count as a Pseudo Elite Four at Realgam Tower or Deep Colosseum? Maybe all 4 trainers before Greevil in XD? No? Fair Enough.
The "Colosseum" part answers that question for you...
🤨
@@emperorcubone Fair Enough. But, I wouldn't take the Sinnoh League lightly anymore. ILCA cooked the Sinnoh League Battles.
Gen 4 ai is set to 0 so all of you that lost to her in pearl and diamond are just bad she’s got the mindset of youngster Joey. In platinum it was changed so if you lost there it would make more sense.
Exactly. That and her being overleleved
Cynthia was a cake walk, it's called having higher leveled pokemon.
Larry is the best, Larry is the goat.
I don't care about rankings, Larry is on the top (of me)
I remember having a hard time with Lorelei
The brick bronze combo
So.. You only counted the 1st run Unova E4 teams and not their re-challenge teams?
I did that for all of them.
I'm kinda confused as you do face Alder in the BW storyline! Only in BW2 does he retire iirc
Platinum superiority
Malva is my fav!
Lucian was a bigger problem in my Shining Pearl than Cynthia was.
Larry is always the answer.
Wow this truned into a weried harem anime at the end.
I mean, let’s be honest the Blueberry elite four are pretty tough
They stomped most previous elite four members
You can’t really say people are wrong for finding Cynthia easy when your team and levels dictate the difficulty. I guess I’m saying that cuz I beat her first try which will happen when you are comparable in level. If we’re taking about remakes then yeah, she’s very annoying to beat in bdsp especially that milotic
If Cynthia isn’t number one I’m going to riot
@@emperorcubone yeah that’s fair enough
Molayne
It’s pronounced BEED, “Patrick Star”! 🤨
Water boy chef is better than team flare girl imo
I think it's sinohs
I never cared for the elite 4
They need more important roles or something new
I could see that, but I DO think more prominent trainers is never really a bad thing!
We need a new game before this man loses his sanity in the search for content
Well it was only natural to cover the opposite of what we did before. But I'm always open to hearing suggestions!
Start: 0:00
End: 12:38
Nah💀
Doing god's work 🙏
Who is saying Cynthia wasn't that hard? Whoever is saying that has never fought her before
Literally the comment right before yours called her "overrated" and "easy to beat." So they're out there!
I fought her in Platinum and BDSP. She's not hard
@@emperorcubone Dude, at least say my name next time.

@@sailor.neptxne What?
The best starter is Empoleon
@@zinniaq3020 Nah, Sun Wukong beats Napoleon.

One thing, I Wonder...
IF There Might By a Round Table Video...
No Matter Which Channel...
You know. Like Bunch of People Meet Like... On one Place and

I wonder,
How would that GO...
I think Trugreen7 did something like that a few years ago, asking what people's favorite Pokemon were, regions, trainers, etc. I don't fully remember everything in the series of videos but I also wasn't involved. It'd be fun to do for sure! I guess maybe BirdKeeperToby's Wants to Battle tag videos are kind of like that too?
