It seems to me that the problem Crabominable has is the same issues that other ice types have: late game encounters more often than not, and having a bad defensive type. The former problem is an issue because by the time you get access to an ice type, you're likely to have a full team of 6 by then, and you may not want to sub one of them out for a new Pokemon -- unless, of course, you KNOW the new Pokemon is REALLY good. As for the typing, I think by now everyone knows how bad ice is defensively, but it's even worse for Crabominable, since it's defensive stats aren't that impressive, and it's also quite slow, and therefore liable to have to take a hit before getting to attack; it's the same problem with Rampardos: being slow, frail, and having a bad defensive typing is an unholy trifecta that makes a Pokemon bad.

This is a crime against game design. There's no excuse to lock the abilities that mons were actually meant to use behind whatever obscure mechanics (which are NOT explained ingame) are needed to get a mon's hidden ability within a given game. Genuinely one of the worst ideas in Pokemon on par with IVs, EVs requiring items to reassign, and trade evolutions.
MY MAIN GRIPE WITH THE ALOLA DEX IS ALL THE SLOW POKEMON. Look through all new entries and count how many have a base speed above 60. It is ridiculously weird and sad
So, honorable mention solely for catch odds even though it's not a Gen 7 Pokemon directly: early game Salamence. You have to encounter Bagon in the tall grass on Mele Mele island, then let it SOS for Salamence ... except Bagon is a 1% encounter in the grass it's in, and Salamence is a low odds SOS (I think another 1%, so net .01%) on top of that. However, if you want to put in the work, you can outright have a Salamence before you fight Hala. It's not actually bad, and you can always just take the Bagon and use that until it evolves naturally if you don't want to bother, but it's still funny that you can do it.
It’s so refreshing watching a video NOT focused on competitive Pokémon. I feel like the fandom would have a stroke with these Toxapex opinions, but it’s true: Toxapex is trash in-game
I mean considering how important stealth rock is in 2 player vs how barely usable it is in 1 player, it seems pretty clear the two game modes are two different entities.
@@jaschabull2365do you mean singles and playthroughs? Cuz stealth rocks only matter in singles, but VGC (the official competitive format, played in doubles) is also a "2 player" game and in there, hazards in general are booty buttcheeks useless.
its also worth pointing out that gen 7 (especially Ultra) regularly sets the EVs of boss trainers competitively, meaning mediocre speed (and bulk) will be infinitely more problematic when you can't rely on your own speed EVs to consistently outspeed your opponent. Contrast this with, say, FRLG, where the majority of opponents aside from the rival and e4 have flat 0s in every IV and EV, meaning your Pokemon with random IVs are just naturally better, even disregarding the badge boosts.
Toxapex is one of those pokemon that is phenominal in some game modes, but absolutely awful in a regular playthrough. Max level, ev trained 6x6 singles/doubles it's an incredible pokemon, or for nuzlockes it's a phenominal pivot and pokemon to help hold the line and prevent deaths, but those are vastly different scenarios from a casual/normal playthrough Togedamaru being one of the worst...this feels a bit harsh-it's limited because of movepool, but in its wheelhouse/niche it's a very, very good pokemon and always helpful to have, though I do agree magneton/magnezone is probably better in general. Crabrawler...agreed, easily one of the worst in the generation, and all of pokemon really. Crabrawler itself isn't actually that bad in design, but crabominable is legit one of the most hideous pokemon in the franchise, down there with Guzzlord and other stinkers. It being a slow heavy hitter is also a hilariously bad design choice as an ice/fighting type, similar to avalugg being hilariously awful because it's attempting to be a slow physical tank...as an ice type, and with extremely flimsy special defense. Hisuian avalugg is even more laughably bad as ice/rock
I agree on Toxapex, it's too defensive to be that helpful in a regular playthrough. But between it being obnoxious to find, and my usual starter Pokemon for Alola being Popplio, I never found a good reason to prioritize getting it. I still don't think it's bad if you can get your hands on it, and arguably not bad enough to be on a "worst of" list, but it is still pretty outclassed. The main issue I have with Togedemaru is it's lack of a good steel move -- iron head is FAR superior to gyro ball for something as fast as it is. At least USUM fixed this issue, which is nice. And while Magnezone is probably better overall, lack of steel STAB aside (given we're talking about the non ultra versions), being a faster Pokemon that can afford to tank a hit or two does arguably give it something over it's competition -- rather or not that matters depends on the player As for Crabominable, yeah, I can fully understand why it's here: it's slow, frail, has a bad defensive typing, and it evolves late, despite being available for pretty much the whole game. It just has nothing going for it, unlike Togedemaru and Toxapex, both of which at least have some kind of redeeming qualities, even if they are arguably not the most ideal choices for a playthrough team
Oof on the Corsola SOS taking forever. I guess we all now have learned our lesson. Aside from using an intimidate/unnerve mon + adrenaline orb, bring something with taunt or heal block. Thank you for your sacrifice, it shall not be in vain.
First I’ll do worst of the best, then best of the worst, then worst of the worst, then best of the best! That made sense… right? Also Shannon: I’m sorry for calling your favorite mons one of the worst 😭 He’s just a sweet, woolly little guy!
I used both Crabominable and Vikavolt (so Crabrawler & Charjabug) on my first ever alola playthrough. Let’s just say the other members absolutely carried.
These videos are awsome! Maybe in the future you could also make videos on the best mons to use in playthroughs from each generation. That would be a blessing to the pokemon community.
Togedemaru on this list only makes any sense in base SM so its a good thing you clarified that lol Between the new fights with Ultra Necrozma and Totem Ribombee, along with Kahili and especially Olivia still being Elite 4 members, its typing helps it pull some insane weight for its stats, shouts to Jonathan the Togedemaru fr
Comfey's draining kiss situation reminded me that cubone evolves into alolan Marowak one level after it learns Shadow Bone and I just wanna know what GameFreak is thinking sometimes lol
So an underleveled yeah, but that is prefered to a fairy pokemon without his stab for 30 level. And when I say breeding, I don't shiny or strategic breeding, but normal breeding 1 time, that is not that bad.
Just a funny little story, i was doing a nuzlocke in ultra moon, getting Pyukumuku as an encounter before the grass trial. Lurantis was sweeping my team, and i sent out Pyukumuku as my 2nd last mon, only for Lurantis to one-shot me, and kill themselves thanks to Innards Out. So if you wanna kill Lurantis easily, do that
My literal favourite pokemon ever is Mareanie and I went out of my way to use it on my first run through moon and I can agree entirely that I never quite got Toxapex to work and it felt really frustrating to have on my team. Specifically I got kinda tricked by it's signature ability merciless, I thought the idea of a guaranteed crit, poison boosted venoshock was the coolest thing ever but with toxapex's weak attack it could rarely OHKO anything which made the set up feel like it wasn't worth it.
i know its been awhile i was in hospital last year unable to walk i remember watching your videos had Alot of time to kill since i was in bed for months
ultra sun was a joke every trainer basically had one single pokemon when i had a full balanced great team.. i remember sighing at the end game everytime i saw one pokemon and i would say let me guess its under level and its not even full evolved even the final area only the post game had respectable fights and of course the battle tree
Toxapex is such a bad call for this list. Ignoring the encounter method toxapex CAN hit reasonably in hard in game. Its got the ability just for it. Merciless. An always crit surf/venoshock is amazing and does great damage + the 4 move slot syndrome point seems really stupid. Why are you worrying so much about recover when potions are available to spam with no consequences lmao.
Hard to believe it's been 8 years since it released already. Absolutely hate how shinok got shafted it has a great design. Hoping some deserving pokemon recive a mega or variant.
I played a poison-only run and went to the trouble of getting Toxapex, excepting it to be an awesome addition to my team... and then boxed it because Tentacruel was just better. The synergy between Merciless and Salazzle's Corrosion probably goes crazy in some really specific situations, but I'm just not that patient.
Whilst we're talking about Shiinotic, can we also talk about the fact that for some reason, its line is the only non-water type pokemon that can have the hidden ability Rain Dish, that slightly heals HP in the rain? Like why??? I understand the Ludicolo line and even Surskit having it, but Shiinotic? Why???
I DID play through USUM twice concurrently with only the three starters (pretty bad natures) and boy was it funny, hard, and rewarding! I definitely recommend it if you ever talk about Alola again.
Couldn't believe my eyes when Toxapex made the list. Merciless guarantees a crit on poisoned pokemon + venoshock now has double the base power * STAB absolutely melts enemy trainers.
My boi shiinotic is one of, if not, my fav alola mons! Love the typing, spore + health restoration shenanigans, and I think it’s a cute little mushroom guy!
Looking multiple Pokémon include Glacion and the MOVE REMINDER behind being able to face the elite 4 is straight up the worst game design I’ve seen in the entire series. There is a single generation from 1-6 that does this kind of crap and coupled with the whack stats of many Alolan Pokémon and the trials which suck and the game beign sooo long is leaves gen 7 as a major let down. It would be one of the best gens in the series but of course Game Freak has to go and ruin it on purpose because they literally are not allowed to at all make a good game. The let’s go games coming right after are a very clear example and is continued through then 8 until Legends Arceus. And the speed stat of almost every gen 7 Pokémon SUCKS!
I used Crabrawler on my team back in the day. I chose my team based on if they had an evolution that I had never seen before Stuck with it the whole way, and I guess it’s a good thing cause Crabominable is my favourite Pokémon now cause of that play through. for some reason
It sucks that Shiinotic is so bad, it's probably my favorite mushroom Pokémon. Idk, I just find it a breath of fresh air compared to other mushroom Pokémon and I've always wanted to use one, but it just sucks so much :(
Had a lot of fun using Toxapex in my latest playthrough, that thing just refuses to die. That said, I totally get why it's on the list, passive pokémon are generally not good for in game
You don’t know what you’re talking about, because you forgot one small thing about toxapex. Its ability merciless. It makes it so that every attack it does on a poisoned opponent crits, so I just bunker, toxic if that doesn’t work, then start landing crit after crit with liquidation. You don’t have to stall when you can just kick ass and take names. Then again that also brings up the encounter method problem again because you have a 50% chance for that mareanie you spent an hour looking for…to have limber instead.
Honestly I thought USUM was easier than SuMo overall, even counting Ultra Necrozma in the mix. They made a lot of the fights in the base game easier and I didn't struggle at all

The ice type evolution was at least fixed in USUM, by adding a patch of grass at the bottom of the mountain. So Crabrawler gets it evo a bit earlier there.
You could still get them at that point in SM too. They spawn even in the surrounding area as well
I don't know why anyone would subject their Crabrawler to that.

Genuinely one of the worst ideas in Pokemon on par with IVs, EVs requiring items to reassign, and trade evolutions.
1:09 I did, I thought of Dhelmise…
MY MAIN GRIPE WITH THE ALOLA DEX IS ALL THE SLOW POKEMON. Look through all new entries and count how many have a base speed above 60. It is ridiculously weird and sad
Its becuz it's based on hawaii and their rushing around is consider rude. Or it could be becuz they're more lay back then say the japanese sterotype
@@bfeldz1023
Ohh, right, doubles is a different thing again. I did mean one-player singles vs. two-player singles.
The clip of Assassination Classroom before Toxapex was a throwback lol
its also worth pointing out that gen 7 (especially Ultra) regularly sets the EVs of boss trainers competitively, meaning mediocre speed (and bulk) will be infinitely more problematic when you can't rely on your own speed EVs to consistently outspeed your opponent.
Contrast this with, say, FRLG, where the majority of opponents aside from the rival and e4 have flat 0s in every IV and EV, meaning your Pokemon with random IVs are just naturally better, even disregarding the badge boosts.
Shiinotic is a really nice mon design wise. Also I like Whishiwashi too and Toxapex is cool and Pyukumuku and Togedamaru are cute
Toxapex is one of those pokemon that is phenominal in some game modes, but absolutely awful in a regular playthrough. Max level, ev trained 6x6 singles/doubles it's an incredible pokemon, or for nuzlockes it's a phenominal pivot and pokemon to help hold the line and prevent deaths, but those are vastly different scenarios from a casual/normal playthrough
Togedamaru being one of the worst...this feels a bit harsh-it's limited because of movepool, but in its wheelhouse/niche it's a very, very good pokemon and always helpful to have, though I do agree magneton/magnezone is probably better in general.
Merciless Toxapex goes crazy
And while Magnezone is probably better overall, lack of steel STAB aside (given we're talking about the non ultra versions), being a faster Pokemon that can afford to tank a hit or two does arguably give it something over it's competition -- rather or not that matters depends on the player
As for Crabominable, yeah, I can fully understand why it's here: it's slow, frail, has a bad defensive typing, and it evolves late, despite being available for pretty much the whole game.
Video starts at 3:30
Love these vids :)
Next I would like a list of the worst BEST pokemon... Good luck decoding what that should look like!
First I’ll do worst of the best, then best of the worst, then worst of the worst, then best of the best! That made sense… right?
Also Shannon: I’m sorry for calling your favorite mons one of the worst 😭 He’s just a sweet, woolly little guy!
@@shepskydad if Peter didnt already make this comment i would have left a SCATHING review for the pyukumuku disrespect
I used both Crabominable and Vikavolt (so Crabrawler & Charjabug) on my first ever alola playthrough. Let’s just say the other members absolutely carried.
I’m glad at least that this wasn’t Crabominable slander, but just calling out how long it takes to evolve. (What is this gen 5?)
Same. Glad he didnt bash Crabominable, love that guy
Crabs are for eating not battling
Haikyuu reference?!
Crabs are for giving caviar to until they do the happy mouth.
This crab is all about going down local, spinning jaws and downing pints!
Bleh. I hate seafood. 🤮
These videos are awsome! Maybe in the future you could also make videos on the best mons to use in playthroughs from each generation. That would be a blessing to the pokemon community.
i actually didn't expect to see togedemaru in there, but it's only because i know it's good in run & bun
Togedemaru on this list only makes any sense in base SM so its a good thing you clarified that lol
Between the new fights with Ultra Necrozma and Totem Ribombee, along with Kahili and especially Olivia still being Elite 4 members, its typing helps it pull some insane weight for its stats, shouts to Jonathan the Togedemaru fr
I think we are ignoring the normal ability of toxapex, merciless. a layer of toxic spikes/toxic and guaranteed venoshock crits can be really fun
It’s a sick ability! Unfortunately your boy got Limber 💀
@shepskydad I know it kinda defeats the purpose of playing with the worst, buy there are ability capsules In the battle royal dome
As someone who's used Wishiwashi on every Sun & Moon playthrough, I wholeheartedly agree with your take on it👍
Comfey's draining kiss situation reminded me that cubone evolves into alolan Marowak one level after it learns Shadow Bone and I just wanna know what GameFreak is thinking sometimes lol
For Confey catch between 19-21, you can just breed it, you are on the good island for that.
Most people don’t really like breeding during playthroughs
Also it would be very under levelled
So an underleveled yeah, but that is prefered to a fairy pokemon without his stab for 30 level.
And when I say breeding, I don't shiny or strategic breeding, but normal breeding 1 time, that is not that bad.
THE N IN COMFEY IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN M!
Halloween themed video: ❌
Worst gen 7 Pokémon: ✅
This is why Shepsky is the ultimate plot twist.
Comfey in gen 7
Help me. I can only terrorize nu.
Meanwhile comfey in gen 9
I am a demon
You DO know what you’re talking about. It’s so nice seeing someone talking about single player viability instead of just fixating on competitive
OK, fair play with Comfey in Sun and Moon if you miss out on Draining Kiss. It was an unsung hero when I used one in Indigo Disk though.
So if you wanna kill Lurantis easily, do that
The fact that Togedemaru did not get iron tail or any other decent steel move is just sad, cause it would be pretty decent with those.
Just use the roto boosts or a strategy to beat Ultra Necrozma.
Oh h**l no my girl marini 😭😭
You know these guys suck when Sheepsky starts swearing like a sailor.
I never understood how people can see Ultra Necrozma as a hard fight when there were plenty of easy options to deal with it.
I loved this video format! please do more
Hard to believe it's been 8 years since it released already. Absolutely hate how shinok got shafted it has a great design. Hoping some deserving pokemon recive a mega or variant.
Guzzlord too much HP.
Bewear should be a difficult o evolve Pokémon with 600 base stat. It's supposed to be a menace.
17:38 Innards Out is just Final Gambit as an ability if you want it in layman’s terms
No way bro a Pokémon game is already hard enough😭
"you can even try to have fun with fell stinger" 😂
Hello ShepskyDad - not even a minute in and you already earned my thumps up. The first joke was awsome. - Greetings Juy Juka
Phew, glad the recommendations didn’t screw me up this time and give me “The worst Gen 13 Pokémon” again.
13:10 that moment when I got a shiny Mareanie while sos-chaining Corsola
Me: is not the shiny I wanted, but I'll take it
I played a poison-only run and went to the trouble of getting Toxapex, excepting it to be an awesome addition to my team... and then boxed it because Tentacruel was just better. The synergy between Merciless and Salazzle's Corrosion probably goes crazy in some really specific situations, but I'm just not that patient.
No way its been 7 months. Holy shit time flies
Why???
Even if they gave shiinotic the ability Analytic it would still be bad. Which is crazy to think about.
Merciless is a fantastic ability! Being a crit machine is amazing. Unfortunately ya boi got Limber 😭
Honorable mention to vikavolt and dhelmise, who you can’t get until basically the end of the game either.
Nah "The Worst Gen 8 Pokémon" would just take 8 months.
My boi shiinotic is one of, if not, my fav alola mons! Love the typing, spore + health restoration shenanigans, and I think it’s a cute little mushroom guy!
I’m mad that Shiinotic is in this because I beat Sword with only Morelull and now I have my new favorite Pokémon
Another day, another wonderful video form Shep and dog.
Muku said, hit me 23 times and feel my wrath
Favorite Gen, uploaded on my favorite day of the year, right after my birthday. This is gonna be good :)
The most important thing I learned from this vid was that Shiinotic brings the boom
I chose my team based on if they had an evolution that I had never seen before
Stuck with it the whole way, and I guess it’s a good thing cause Crabominable is my favourite Pokémon now cause of that play through.
for some reason
Dishonorable mention to Vikavolt and Charjabug. They have the same problem as Crabrawler because it can’t evolve until over half way through the game.
I forgot Shiinotic was from this game and not original to Glimwood Tangle.
I played through with a pyukumuku in ultra sun and it was such a drag 😭 i love how they look though so I suffered through 😂
6:55 sorry this Pokémon makes me a bit… Krabby…
Honestly I thought USUM was easier than SuMo overall, even counting Ultra Necrozma in the mix. They made a lot of the fights in the base game easier and I didn't struggle at all
