Thank you for the step by step video, like many others have said I saved a TON of money as well being able to do this myself. I don't know if you're aware or the others who watch the videos, but I was able to do "loan a tool" from my local auto parts store and that also saved me a bunch of money on tool costs. It just doesn’t come with as much adaptors for the job but will work for sure 👍

Very nice and easy to understand the process just wish I had a lift an all those tools for my 2015.. GMC seirria .. but first I have to decide if I want to keep it due to the rust starting in the cab corners and rear fenders ..

Thank you for the video it reminds me of why I don't tackle these things in my driveway I need to get my ball joints done again but the ones I have on there I'm going to try to get warranty on them from the shop that sold them Canadian Tire store in Canada It's not even a year yet...
Yeah, they probably use really cheap ball joints
I’ve seen them go out in about that amount of time with the cheap Chinese ones

Man I have done this before on a honda and bmw car each and I am dreading doing it to my 2010 Silverado with only hand tools....everything is so much bigger and heavier on the truck.
It’s not as bad as u might think it’s as strait forward as any of the others. U will need the tools I mention in video

Thanks for watching!!! The lower control arm was in great shape and the lower control arm bushings too, no cracks. The lower control arms are a bit expensive, so i would’ve just replaced bushings if they were bad.
Question you could put grease before you pushed in the new ball joint correct planning on doing this to my sierra 09 excellent explanation thoe thank you
U could, I prefer to put in through the Zerk fitting Because it fills the cavity below ball where the pressure against body is.

You must be in Texas or something those control arms still have the black coating on them, I'm from northern Illinois doing this same job and I have a whole lot more oxidation going on lol, nice video, very informative!

What if you took the other side of the cv off instead of taking the strut off?
I got two different pins for my mevotech balls joint idk why but they gave me two in each pack any clue ?

Thanks for watching! I put jack under lower control arm and lifted up truck with wheel off and torqued the upper control arm bolts down, as seen in video. 👍
Great video I just watched. Looking for parts now for my 2013. The TTX looks superior. Why not buy there upper control arm? Also, if changing the upper, is there a reason to not just change the lower? Thanks
Customer wanted the regular ones for uppers, I usually replace the upper control arm because there’s not much of a price difference for the ball joint by itself or just the whole upper control arm and they are super easy to replace compare to lower.
The lower control arm bushings where in great shape and all they needed was ball joints, also no point in replacing considering price difference and more labor involved.

Is the ttx line working for you? Also have a 2013 and want something besides moog and mevotech ttx looks pretty durable. Just wish it came in black lol
With the stock ball joints non greasable, shortens the service life.

Nice video, i enjoyed watching it, just got a couple of questions, why did you not put grease in the tie rod zerk fitting while you was rite at it..,and what's a fair price to pay for that kind of job, i was quoted over 1,000 dollars a couple of years ago..???
I ended up topping off the joints with grease before it left the shop, I would say

Great Video ! Question. I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado that has a vibration in front only when I go to slow down or come to a stop. I've had the front rotors and rear drums changed, front and rear brakes changed, rear cylinders changed due to leak and just had the front left wheel bearing changed, and it still has a vibration ! It's driving me crazy, any ideals ? the mechanic shop said the only other thing it could be is the ball joints, what do you think ?
I wouldn’t suspect ball joints, but they can be checked to be sure there is no play, have u checked wheels for balance and drive shaft?
It’s hard to know with out actually driving it and using butt O meter lol
have you ever road force balance your tires?

Thank you for the great video. I just left my truck at the delaers, they called me said my 2017 GMC Sierra Will need both lower ball joints replaced. But because the ball joints are welded in, I would need to replace the control arms. 1300 dollars. I called a local auto store, they said they may have been trying to scam me. have you heard of welded ball joints where you had to change out the control arms?

IS it a 35mm or 36mm the axle bolt? The last video I just watched said it was 36
This truck had an aftermarket axle and the nut was a 35mm
I don’t remember if the stock nut was a 36mm
aren't you supposed to torque top arm at ride height and use leverage to seat the threads
Yes, I did raise it with jack to tighten
It’s so u don’t put to much twist on the rubber bushing
It wasn’t to far off from ride height and it was going to get alignment at the shop 5 miles away in which they would loosen and readjust for camber.
Even though I put back where it was, I personally still send to get alignment done and let them know to re-torque.
the bottom ball joints are already greased? or need to be filled ?
They are usually pre greased
I add a couple of pumps of grease, usually after my first test drive. Once I finished install
Why did you take off so many things just to do a ball joint?
I took off what I feel is required, to properly remove ball joints
How long would you say this took you? A local shop wanted to charge me $1300 to do this and I said screw that I’ll do it myself. it looks like something I can handle, just have to get a press like the one you used
If u never done it, u should be able to get it done in a weekend taking your time,
I got it done in about 5 hours, and I took my time.
Biggest thing is to take the time to press the ball joint in and make sure it goes in evenly and doesn’t get hung up going in.

That is what I expected a local shop here to charge me and they quoted me $3200. So I am doing this job this weekend. This video is a perfect reference. I just did the struts a couple of months ago but wanted to see the lower ball joint removal and install to gain some confidence. Thank you PerformanceOnABudget!

I used a crows foot wrench with torque wrench
Why do you replace the upper control arm?
On this year of Silverado the upper ball joint is integrated in the control arm, so u just replace control arm.
