  • After filming Autauga County, I went over to Lee County for the other DSA that still has an MCP for their weekly test while ‪@DJ2226‬ went over to Macon County for a new 508 there for their weekly test. Unfortunately, due to partly cloudy skies, both counties cancelled their tests this week, annoyingly. Thankfully, Montgomery County had confirmed on Facebook a few hours prior that they were going to do their monthly test today, despite the chance of rain. As such, after I went and caught a CSX L833 and got myself some lunch in Opelika, I went to this Whelen 4004/Thunderbeam pair at the Highland Gardens Elementary School in Montgomery while ‪@DJ2226‬ went for an older Whelen 4004 at Carver High School.
Thankfully, despite a rain shower cropping-up over NW Montgomery, Montgomery County still did their monthly test. However, it seems that due to this shower, the EMA tried to do an abbreviated test with short 20-second blasts of each tone they test with. While all of the sirens in the system (AFAIK) received the cancel tones for the alert blast and the activation tones for the attack tone, it seems that the Whelen 4004s on the ESC-2020 controllers (including this one and all of the ones around it) missed the cancel tones for the attack portion and did a full attack as a result. Admittedly, I certainly don't mind getting the attack tone here, as the Whelen I recorded back in June missed the attack tone.
I think you can hear at least three other nearby Whelens winding down after this one finishes its test, which is rather neat. The Thunderbeam here was, probably unsurprisingly, replaced by the Whelen in the early-2000s. Amusingly, the siren's disconnect is still in the "on" position, though the wires to it have long been cut and are dangling from its pole.
Montgomery County, AL, tests on the first Wednesday of every month at 3:30PM, weather permitting. If the test is unable to be conducted on the first Wednesday, it is delayed to the second Wednesday of the month at 3:30 PM, weather permitting, and is also potentially an abbreviated test.

Ain't that crazy. They test at 3:30PM as well, monthly though.

Does the Modulators in Bridgeport test with the rest of Jackson county or are they on a separate test schedule?

At some point, maybe? One of the remaining CD-era sirens in Montgomery were removed sometime within the past year or so, while the other disappeared sometime between 2016 and 2019 per street view. However, neither siren was directly replaced, and Montgomery's other remaining CD sirens were all still standing last I saw. I wouldn't be too surprised if why these still stand is due to being right next to active sirens.
