This scene was barely a sentence in the book, all we get is Margot talking to her husband about capturing Feyds bloodline and then it's never mentioned again. DV did the same with Selusa Secundus- dude just makes pure gold out of thin air...
The entire Geidi Prime sequence was perfection. I was shocked to find out that it was only on screen for less than 20 minutes (i think). It felt like i was there, on that planet for hours, it's really a testament to how good that scene is (as are many others in the film). I really can't put into words the awe i feel sometimes lmao.
I'm happy to agree with you that this is indeed my favorite scene from the film. I should have expected it, but I was actually taken aback when Lea Seydoux said: " put your hand in the box"...
That's one of my favorite scenes, hands down. It's like a music video within a movie. Very little dialogue, just sensual tension and atmosphere paired perfectly with Zimmer's soundtrack. Pure genius. There are scenes like this all throughout Dune Part Two. The scene of Paul's arrival at the war council is another one. I saw it in the cinema three times and it never failed to send chills down my spine.
That first series of shots in your video. On IMAX, watching Dune 2 for the first time. My jaw was dropped. Eyes wide open without blinking in awe of the epic filmmaking on display. I loved the black sun of Giedi Prime. How the outside world lacked any chroma. The inky blotty fireworks reflecting light on the brutalist bridge structure. Greg Fraiser has stepped into the top tier(of cinematographers) with this one. He and Denis has made one of the most perfect and epic films I’ve seen in my lifetime. This is not hyperbole. There it is on the screen.
Yeah the Black Sun is one of the coolest things in Science Fiction. That scene had me kicking my feet in my theater seat all 5 times I saw it in theaters. What an achievement in filmmaking.
@@mrmr4622 yeah, underrated being a relative term. As in, “most people might think of the Worm Ride, Paul’s Speech, or the Eclipse, but I think the Corridor scene deserves so much more love.”
Watching this scene in Imax was crazy, as sexy and eerie as it was, it felt like there was a giant beast lurking in the dark waiting to strike Feyd as it progressed

This means a ton to me. I’m not too worried about the amount of views right now, more worried about making quality content and making cool connections within the Dune community. I’ve made some cool relationships with some cool people and hope to continue to do so. Thanks for your support!
though i still wish there was a director's cut that gives us MORE Feyd-Rautha, i am so pleased that every scene he's in gives his character a layer of twisty depth
The score! The choice to make the song Seduction ominous and weird was brilliant. Unexpected and stunning. And Lea is so stunning. I’m a straight woman and I would have followed her. lol
Also ☝️🤓 that’s how the voice works in the books, not so much as demon voices giving orders, more in a seductive way that makes you want to obey, which was such an upgrade in the movies, reading and imagining Jessica seducing the Harkonnen soldiers in the ornithopter was weird after seeing how it plays out in Dune part 1, so much better to think there are different ways to use the voice depending on the task at hand.
100% Definitely a Brilliant Underrated scene amongst many, I especially like when she says 'I hope it was a Good Dream' smirkingly. Dune 2 was the Only film that compelled me to actually walk into a movie theatre the past 4 years.
Such a great analysis. This scene always stands out to me on rewatches. Especially the music. But also the lighting. It’s German Expressionism inspired, and it looks great. Denis makes shadows look better than anyone else. Am I crazy, or could Nosferatu have been an inspiration for this scene? Visually speaking.
My personal Most Underrated moment in Dune is the transition from this scene to the next where Margot is reporting back to the Reverend Mother and we go from the peak of everything this scene built up to, the very moment Feyd is about to put his hand in the box and as the viewer we're already thinking back to Paul's test at the start of Part 1 and we're expecting something on that level but instead we get the rug pulled out from under us by what almost feels like a smashcut to the reporting back and Margot just casually being like "Oh yeah, Feyd LOVED the box!"
Thank you for this. In a film packed with great scenes this is one of my favourites. They were 100% successful in having Margot seduce us all. The sound design is so good, such exquisite subtlety.
Glad I found your channel and this video. Was rewatching this at home the other day and ended up rewinding this scene like five times lol, didn't realize how much amazing shit was going on during first watch.
Love the analysis of the details here, thank you so much for all that info! Personally, I also love that scene bc it feels half horror, half seduction AND sensual without sexualising/objectifying Lady Fenring, which is how such seduction scenes are often portrayed. Fantastic work.
I love Jessica Ferguson in Dune 2, such a great actor. The scene where she's forced to drink the water of life, so realistic her reaction to someone being offered to drink something they are worried about. I think I have had similar things put in front of me at parties and told to drink that I was afraid of and did not react as convincing. The scene where the Harkonnens are chasing them in the very beginning, where they walk up the dune and then launch into the air and flout up to the top of the mountain, so cool and tactical. I fantasise about how valuable that ability would be in that role, how insidious it would be for operators to just drop in so quietly on the unsuspecting. The betrayal of Chani at the end when Paul takes the hand of the queen, and Chani is the only one standing up and turns and walks out.
I love how Feyd is utterly selfish, psychotic, but Fenring is the same. She gets what she wants, and except for a moment with the knife near her neck, she is in control of herself and of him. Her unknown advantage is that Feyd has a parallel bloodline to Paul, and has precog-dreamed of being with her, no doubt good intimate dreams, so he is already disposed to not killing her. He would also have had dreams which came true so he knew that a night of pleasure was ahead once he met her, but he wouldn't know that it was entirely her plan.
At some point, when there are so many scenes that have substantial things to add to characters and events… it’s harder to say what’s relatively “minor”.
@@gmonorail yes I am sad that count Fenring couldn’t make it into the script. But since he is not, and Lady Fenring is, I feel comfortable relating that mantle to her.
I agree with you. In my defense, it is tough to communicate a nuanced thought in a UA-cam thumbnail, which generally results in incorrect or just weird sentences
None ofwhich are in the book. And that ''Romantic'' scene as you put it(God knows why, he's a psychopath) didn't happen like that and I'm confused as to why they did it like that. Margot Fenring in the book was very tall, stately and greeen eyed and Feyd Rautha was as small as Paul with dark ringletty hair. I give up on why screenwriters chanfge books so drastically. Either stick close to it or bloody well write something original yourselves!!
no ... this movie feels extremely artificial, I was not drawn in for one second. I was amazed by the geometry of the frame, the camera angle, the chill-inducing music, Chalamet and Sandaya sitting on a dune in Dune costumes ... but I was not on Dune or inside the story of Paul Artreides for even a single second for this entire 2 part movie. Sorry... this was really well done on a technical and design level, but in terms of "immersive storytelling" - a complete failure. 3:10 not knowing where to look will take you out of the movie. The way the entire team came up with the design of Giedi Prime, from a plastic drum on the side of the road, to the infrared cameras. It's perfection.
The precision and purposefulness of every last little thing in Villeneuve's movies is absolutely insane.
