SHOUF (or CHOUF), LEBANON - Shouf is a region of Lebanon, home to an amazing biosphere reserve, and delicious mountain Lebanese food. In this video, we hung out with Cezar ( / cezar_projects , checked out some of the amazing sights, and ate some delicious local food. #Lebanon #LebaneseFood #Shouf
Cezar’s Guest House - Shouf, Lebanon - Thanks again to Cezar ( / cezar_projects ) for hosting us. We started off the day with breakfast at the guest house farmstay, gathering our own eggs and vegetables. Breakfast was simple, but delicious.
Shouf Biosphere Reserve Barouk Cedar Forest - Thought it was a short hike, it was fantastic to see the cedars of Lebanon, but quite different from the other Cedars of God ( • BEST BREAKFAST - Villa... ) I had already seen. One of the highlights was hugging The Old Lady - People say, this is the cedar tree depicted on the flag of Lebanon.
Atelier Assaf - Art, sculpture, eco-park - Very unique place, and the brothers are extremely skilled stonemasons and craftsmen.
For lunch we returned to the guest house to eat home cooked food. Some of the talented women from the community came to the house to cook their specialities. It was an incredibly delicious home-cooked meal.
Yerba mate - I had no idea that a yerba mate culture existed in Lebanon. But due to the big population of Lebanese in Brazil and Argentina, then returning to Lebanon, they brought with them yerba mate. I spent a few months in Argentina in 2008, and learned to love it.
Dinner - Harees - Finally for dinner, we made a huge pot of harees, also known by many similar names throughout the Middle East. But it’s a wheat and meat stew, boiled for so long that it all blends together. It was very interesting to me because many of the spices were spices I typically associate with sweetness, but this was a savory dish. Very warming and a very mountain style dish.

Hi Mark, incase you see this, just wanted to thank you for opening my eyes to such a diverse range of healthy and delicious food with your videos. I suffer from depression and often my diet is unhealthy comfort food, but you've inspired me to try so many new foods that my diet and my life has completely changed since watching your videos.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for doing what you do. Your approach to food and life in general has been a great inspiration to me.
Dude come move here, you obviously need to.
😀😀😀😀😀 Le Frog Kid..excellent 👍. What ever works. Now find a Lebanese restaurant!!
That is amazing, thank you so much for sharing. Eating fresh, unprocessed food, really makes a difference. Keep it up, and thank you so much!
Try to come lebanon if you afford it and try to live in the mountains and avoid the tourist area, locals are nice , food is healthier and prices is way cheap, and you will be relieved as soon as possible

I can't agree with you more.
I don’t know much about Lebanese, but as for Thai, I wouldn’t go that far.
This Lebanon series has been absolutely amazing. It's incredible how diverse your travels have been this year - Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, ofc Thailand as well. Hoping one day you will visit the South Pacific, because I think you would have an amazing cultural experience in places like Samoa, Tonga and Fiji.
yes :)
I really love the olive oil from Lebanon. I usually buy it at the Walmart whenever I can. Best regards from Brazil.
I am Lebanese... and though it's good, its commercial olive oil and its nothing like the local homemade one you see in this video.. I wish you could come over to Lebanon and try the diversity of our cuisine and get to discover our culture and country and enjoy our hospitality.. I know there's a huge Lebanese Community in Brazil I have many relatives and friends that live there..
I hope you are surviving the pandemic well..
Best Regards from Lebanon.
Beautiful country, culture and people. Thanks Mark Wiens!

Here in Argentina, in the beggining of the XX century we had a lot of inmigrats from the middle east. Many went back to Syria, Saudi Arabia and Lebannon took Mate with them and those countries currently buy a lot of our yerba mate production.
Yup, Lebanon and Syria are one of the biggest importers of mate and its more precisely due to the druze community in these two countries.
@@hj3259 as an argentinian, it feels awesome to see people enjoying mate in the other side of the world😎

Nadie Rathnekumara yes that’s true 👍👍❤️❤️
I first tried Lebanese food many years ago, and it was (and is) some of the best food I have ever tasted, so I learned to make it. I think it's an underrated world cuisine. What you see here is just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks so much for sharing this Mark as Lebanon is not an easy place to travel to these days.
God bless you Mark I love how you enjoy every food that you eat im sure that there’s some kind of food that taste nasty and you never made a face of dislike
This video made me cry. The incredible landscapes. The people. The food. And of course, your sweetness towards it all. I thought of this part of the world as a barrenness, not the water, the trees, the richness of the food grown and prepared there. It's the ancient culture that endures to this day that has me blown away, also. Watching Micah climb the mountain path was like... what?

😳 my face when I saw Mark drinking MATE ..... in Lebanon!!! For a minute I thought he was in Argentina’s! 🇱🇧🇦🇷
Alot of Lebanese drink MATE also its kinda traditional. Specially village people 🌹😁
🙏❤
Mate is very traditional in Lebaon, it was brought by our ancestors who immigrated to Argentina in 1800s. It is mostly consumed in mountains of Chouf and Alley.
There is nothing better than a Mark Wiens video to make you feel better when you are in a gloomy mood! Thanks Mark!

The Lebanese and Iranian episodes are among my favorites! I'm equally shocked and amazed at what I've learned not only about their food, but also the cultures, the places and the people. As ignorant as it may sound, I always thought of the Middle Easterns as heavy-bearded, dessert-dwelling people, who only wore black or white robes with headscarves and ate hummus, falafel and biryani all the time. 😬
Because jews outside Israel are so influenced by the zionist media
Mate in Lebanon that's crazy! Mark i love your videos keep up the good work. Regards from Argentina!!
