TRUE THAT !!!! "the reward isn't measured in size"........for me & obviously you, measured in the hunt/stalk/great shoting-shot placement.......such an EXCELLENT example of Hunting...Thank You Again !
Thanks for that Eric, very generous words. To me this is how I prefer hunting, a proper chase, invisible prescence, quick kill and minimum stress to the game.
Hey Thomas, nice vid as usual. Nice to see you do approaching. Lot of useful tips. But I've one for you as well. When approaching, keep your hands and face camoed/covered, these are the body parts that move and show most in the last phase of approaching. When closing in, the deer will notice these 3 white spots are moving. I learned to shoot with gloves and face mask. You'll notice on 5:50 were your pale hands and face pop out, and on 6:08 you see the difference already with your black gloves back on. Keep up to good work.
EXCELLENT Video !!!!will show & demonstrate to many what True Hunting is !!! Great Work !!!! - stretch the stalk, not the shot.....great example for many to learn from ! Thank You Sir for sharing !
Thanks for that Eric, glad you liked it- I actually blurred the turret is this film as distance was appr 240 meters, a bit far to include in a tuition film.
Excellent shots again Thomas as always. Nice ethical harvest. Well done sir. And you did it in very adverse conditions. Specially when you shove your hand right into a mud hole filled with Clearwater.
It's like that all over Jim. You can go to the very top and there will still be water most places, it's just so wet. It defies my "water logic" as the water must come from somewhere and as I understand gravity, water should run downhill...
Thanks Jay. These landscapes can be intimidating for beginners (it sure was from me, coming from a forest environment), but when you start looking there's all sorts of dead space, cover and concealment everywhere. You just have to stitch them together via the binoculars so you don't waste a lot of time crawling into a dead space.
Nice on Thomas your films are getting better and better. I love em.what bipod is that Thomas and who is the manufacture. Again thanks and please keep safe....steve
Thanks Stephen. Social distancing is fairly easy up north, we're fairly spaced up as it is, so we are seeing a lot less of the virus here. Bipod is Rifle Precision System, any with the same C mount system should do the same. Tier One has makes one too at a far more attractive price point.

Another top video, a question about the 6xc if i may. What bullets are you using? Also, what shot are taking, just in the boiler room or slightly higher up? Many thanks
Follow the front side of the leg, go up on the shoulder. Through the head or where jaw meets neck. It all depends. These were shot with 105 Amax, only legal bullet I could get my hands on in time. I'll likely be switching to Sierra 100gr Tipped Gameking when I can get them.
@@THLR thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Just couldn't tell from the view. It looks like the xc certainly drops them with some authority. Keep it up!
@@benwright3314 I have been very surprised myself. I have seen the occasional red deer shot with 243 and used 243 a little on roe deer. Those results were good, but I didn't really dare put faith in the little 6mm bullet until quite recently. However, I will switch back to 6,5mm once this barrel is burnt as 6mm is more expensive here. If factory ammo was available, I'd probably look at 6 Creedmoor if I wanted a 6mm - simply because of the ever growing selection whereas 6 XC selection seems stagnant.
@@THLR a friend of mine offered me his 6.5 creed but living in the UK i had to put a variation in and id just received my ticket back with a 243 on it lol, still got a 308 though so if im not keen on the 243 il use the 308 and then get a 6.5. Cracking videos once again and i appreciate the reply. Atb and stay safe
Nice video! What kind of bipod adapter do you use? I have a R8 in ultimate stock as well and it looks like you have the same adapter (vertebrae?). Did u have to do any bedding for it to fit properly? Mine tilts down when i tighten the bolt since the hole in the stock is a bit deep...
No I use an adapter from RPS rifle precision system as I find this a better/more elegant fit. I have applied liberal amounts of glue on mine, so it is more or less semi-permanent and bedded into the stock. It does not move at all.
Very good and energizing video. I always wonder when I see you walking with your heavy leather boots though water how many pairs of boots do you take with you? When leather boots are wet, they stay wet for at least three days.. So I do everything, but always try to avoid wet boots. Still great so see that you stick to the 6xc. I love my one although, you don't need more if you can hit the vital zones...
I actually bring electric boot driers and extra insoles. The soles soak up a fair amount of humidity when I'm out. My routine is: Brush the wet boots clean of debris. Remove insoles, fill boots with paper to soak up the worst, wrap them in old newspapers. Clean rest of gear. Unwrap/empty boots, paper is by now proper soaked. Put in electric boot drier and some paper, remove that paper before going to bed. Leave it in if no drier is available. If exterior is dry enough, apply liberal amount of leather balm in morning. Use second pair of insoles. The boots will be sufficiently dry this way. I use felt soles and thick socks to keep the foot as dry as possible. Clean your feet properly to avoid chafing and blisters.
The 6 XC works fine, but I expect it'll soon be overshadowed by 6 Creedmoor due availability of factory ammo. With increasing use of copper bullets here, it is only a matter of time before I must leave the 6mm as I must also meet a legal requirement of 100gr bullet weight. But yes, so far very happy with the 6 XC. It just works.
Due 1:8" specification and lack of pressure issues with wear, both 6 XC and 6 Creedmoor can be considered "better" from a shooter/ reloader perspective.
Nice paint job! A few multiple use cans of Rustoleum paint at $3-$5 beats $300 for a camo dip job. Using rubber gloves to crawl in wet Machair was smart. I sling my rifle over my head/right shoulder muzzle down and have a little bungee clip to attach between the sling and my jacket epaulet...rifle rides good on the flat of my back and I have both hands free to crawl with [ also keeps rifle dry ]...have you ever tried that? This reticle looks a little simpler?? Good shooting!
Fishermen has a far better selection of wet-weather gloves than hunters. Gloves made for hunters tend to be expensive and not too hardy. I haven't tried your sling method, currently not able to fully envision how you set it up. No, itæs the same reticle only lower magnification.

Once again, very entertaining!! That little 6XC sure packs a punch haha. We use in on jackals here in South Africa. Quick question, I need a new hunting wardrobe. what clothing brands do you use? Thanks and keep up the good work!
The 6 XC has proven to be great, allthough I would choose 6 Creedmoor due the evergrowing selection of factory ammunition. I'm afraid my clothing brands would do you no good as I'm in a very different climate zone (wet & windy), and I'm all about membranes (which you shouldn't need). I use any respected alpine brand as long as the colour & price is right.
@@THLR Thanks for the reply. In the winter here where I hunt, it gets downright frigid. Temperatures often fall below 0 Celsius at night and hunting in the early mornings when its -14C is no fun when you don't have the proper gear. Gotcha! This baselayer is "the" baselayer for handling a large temperature swing between cold/warm and activity. www.aclimashop.no/tips-og-rad/aclima-ullundertoy/aclima-woolnet/. If it get's warm I simply drop my jacket and go with the windbreaker alone. The best example is perhaps in this film where I go from -7C to +8C ua-cam.com/video/RVn5lG_9knI/v-deo.html.
