Another great video - thanks for sharing! Thanks for showing the reality of hunting, the highs and lows. I learn something from every one of your videos. I appreciate the effort you put in to lug all the gear up into the hills and then the time spent editing afterwards.
Thank you very much. Yes for sure, no matter what money you put into it or what expectations you might have, you can't really control it. On this trip my timeframe was severly limited and my original plan of hiking high and glassing at first light was stopped by fog. As it was, my choice was to go into the fog and hope it would lift (forecast said no, reality gave me an opening over a few hours) or basically look at the only two open spaces I could see and hope for the best. I got lucky; both in seeing the animals moving over the ridge and there being a suitable animal in that group.
Another great video sir, many thanks. It must be annoying feeling that you have to justify a shot but in my view you made a fine job of it.
And I just want to add that I really love that triumphal cry that you insert into the soundtrack when you have successfully taken an animal. It is immensely respectful to the creature and speaks to the wild heart of hunting. Thank you for all your hard work. 🙏🏻 😊👍🏻
Well… I think I’m aiming for educate rather than justify. Very rarely do I catch flak and mostly it comes from a different perspective and not ill will; allthough I sometimes find the combo perspective + ignorance to give tiresome results. So instead of just saying sod off, I say these are the factors that contributed to my decision. The cry is actually a recording of a Cree ceremony and I like it, for me it is a sign of respect: Hunting (or even eating food) undeniably involves killing, but it can be done without unneccessary suffering.
@THLR Thanks for the reply. I guessed the cry was Native American and it is wonderful.🙂
Welcome back wifh anoher GOOD hunting video, thank you.

Love your videos. Appreciate the effort that goes into them.
Glad you like them!
It would be wonderfull to see all gear you use while hunting or LR shooting. All gear backpack, clothing rifles scopes bino etc... once more wonderfull shot. Greatings from Bosnia And Herzegovina. P.S. visit Zelengora mountain for hunting 😄😉
Gear is probably on of the most repeated requests. Eventually I will do one, but for now I lack the space to present. Googled images for Zelengora; very beautiful, I'll put it on my to-do list. But Slovenia and Austria is most likely first.

Well placed shot! With the Chamois being broadside! Don't worry about the guys criticising that shot 😉 You are actually one of the rare youtubers also showing when Something went wrong and you are able to admit mistakes ! Thats why I enjoy watching your videos! Waidmannsheil
Thank you very much! I think it is important to show that we are all humans: We try to do what is best, but sometimes we also fail. Hopefully one also learn from mistakes; even better if it’s somebody else’s mistake!
Good shooting Thomas, and excellent video capturing beautiful scenery. Well done.

As always, a beautiful video. Thanks for taking us along.
However, I have a question about the selection. Maybe I missed something in the video and misidentified the animal you harvested.
Why did you choose the older female (if that’s what it was) when there was a fawn and a yearling chamois with it?
No I don't think you misidentified from what is visible in the film. Up left is the bigger animal/mother, you see it run in the shot. There's four animals, however I was unable to capture all in one frame. But still, I classed the animal I shot as a 3 years old and it was a 5 years old (not something I'd want to shoot)
Nice work, Thomas. Always impress and thankful for all the struggle carrying cameras, tripods mics an everything just so we could have som great 15 minutes of entertaining. Could you please tell me / us how is the chamois meat taste like. Is like a normal norwegian lamb / sheep or goat meat ? Do you transport your game back home ?
Well, if I'm the cook it's going to be very average. I have eaten chamois both as steak and sausages and found both to be excellent, the kind where you eat more than you should and only stop out of politeness. I'd put it closer to veal (kalv) than lamb. Sadly no, everything is donated. I do not take the meat home simply because I am unable to maintain a satisfactory hygiene standard during transport.
Great as always 👌
Thank you very much. Editing the next episode right now.

Precision hunting🤝🏻🤝🏻Great shot, you did know 100% what you were doing. What bullet did you use?
Thank you very much! This was Hornady 6,5mm 123gr Amax. These days I basically use that one or Barnes 120gr TTSX for hunting, Lapua 120gr Scenar L for everything else. The future will most likely see a full transition to copper-only for hunting, they work great so far and with new developments I suspect every negative (mostly being hard) will be fully adressed and we will eventually have as good a selection with copper as lead. Right now I stick to Barnes simply because it works; I don't want to spend my money experimenting.
@THLR a-max is a leathal bullet😁. Do you know these Norwegian solid copper bullets, NPB? Norwegian Perfomance Bullets?
You have changed the watches!!
@@michalmensik9635 yes. A gps capable watch is new to me. Makes moving in darkness that much faster; very convenient
@THLR ok, I guess a cell phone with gps is not that handy ....
@michalmensik9635 the battery life is not comparable
Welcome back and thanks for another fantastic hunting video. Question what kind of carbon mountain pole are you using? Thx for your feedback.
And best regards from the Swiss mountains.👍
Hope you enjoy Switzerland, I've seen pictures of really steep and beautiful chamois hunting there. My mountain pole is home made, it can be unscrewed into 3 parts and uses ordinary tripod feet (spikes or rubber) that can easily be replaced. The machinist did a superb job, so the joints are 100% without play/movement. The only reason I made my own was that I had very specific requirement of packing it in my luggage for airline travel. If I didn't have this requirement, I would have used HEP Carbon. I borrowed one in Austria, it was very comfortable to use (slight flex to better take the weight) and also doubled as a shooting stick. Another stock I have used is from Mountrainer.at, that was also very solid but unfortunately didn't pack down small enough to fit air travel.
@ THX👍
Any link where you found the ammo pouch?
Thanks for yet another great video. You’re a true inspiration!
Any for and against between the 6.5x55 or 6.5x57R? Not sure how much difference it makes to have a R calibre in a K95. Was also considering a 7x57R or 7x65R in the new success wooden stocks
@@emilmouritsen908 Andreas.Torheim@hotmail.com can help you with the ammo boxes. As for K95 caliber choice, all options you mentioned are good and local supply/resale value can decide. I have 6.5x57R because I bought my rifle secondhand and when a 6.5x55 barrel popped up I bought that too. Ammo selection/prices and brass supply was terrible with x57R, but once sorted I see no difference when reloading. The factory ammo x57R I could get shot awful in my rifle whereas x55 is both cheap and precise. I also have a 6.5 PRC barrel, but without a silencer it is a little more unpleasant and for normal hunting I simply don't bother. Almost all the chamois and red deer fall like you saw in this film when shot with 120-130gr bullets from either the x55 or x57R, so for that reason I don't use the PRC and would likely also see no benefit in 7x65R over 7x57R.
@ thank you very much for such a long and detailed answer Thomas. I’ve written an email to Andrea’s, let’s see if we can post it to Denmark otherwise my friends is Norway can get it I guess.
Very interesting with the calibre choice, 57R is no where to be found in Denmark, atleast if it’s lead free bullets as it’s the law now. So it will have to be 6.5x55 which is an excellent caliber and everywhere in Scandinavia.
Have you shot a K95 in the 7x57R or 7x65R? Don’t want it to be unpleasant to shoot but some countries demand minimum of 7mm bullets. But I guess I could just bring the R8 with my then.
Your suggestions and advise weights heavy when it comes from such an experience hunter and shooter.
Bedste hilsner, Emil
Not the 7x65R, but I owned a Haenel in 7x57R. It does exactly the same as my 6,5mm's. The only mistakes you can make regarding caliber is A) buying something that is too expensive to shoot B) buying something that's difficult to source C) buying something with excessive recoil D) buying something that's not legal for your intended use. Through the years I've made all of those mistakes. With the K95, take your time and make sure you get a piece of wood you really like looking at - that has by far been the best decision for myself with the K95.
@ life is too short to shoot an ugly rifle. I really want a wooden K95 to partner my R8 Ultimate Carbon. Last question: any significant difference between rimmed cartridges and non-rimmed in a K95? Keep reading people say it’s hard to extract without a rim
@@emilmouritsen908 when looking at the construction, this is in theory correct as a rimless cartridge relies on a tiny feather to push the «grip spigot» into the cartridge case rim. But I have not noticed any difference between the two; I have shot thousand++ 6.5x55 now. I have however had problems CLOSING the rifle, you see this several times in my easrliest K95 films. This was solved by cleaning and oiling the blade spring which lifts the locking block. Without the friction, the locking block is now lifted to its proper height and the rifle closes correctly regardless of what cartridge I’m shooting.
the like number counter keeps turning as if there is a like but the number does not change?
I suspect that is simply UA-cam programmers wanting to keep you locked down for a few more seconds...
Great hunting!
What backpack do you have?
@@Hubertus142008 thank you. I have a Kuiu carbon frame backpack, but it's not a product I will recommend. Nice frame and good carry comfort, nice top lid, but otherwise "everything" is wrong. Most annoying that you cannot open the zipper/get into the backpack without unbuckling the compression straps.
@THLR thank you. So do you have one which you can recommend?
@Hubertus142008 do you need to carry an animal in it or not? Is it one or many days?
@THLR I need a one day backpack and sometimes I have to carry an animal, but it would be great to know all these types.
@@Hubertus142008 for one day, 30-45 liter is suitable size - lean towards bigger in a colder climate as your insulation jacket will have more bulk. If you need to carry an animal, there's not much on the market: Blaser, Carjani, Riserva, Mystery Ranch Sawtooth are the new/modern versions weighing in at 2-3kg and you usually have to buy new. There's plenty of secondhand packframes available, but these tend to be 80-130 liters and weigh 4-6kgs. If you don't need to carry an animal, any alpine backpack from Arcteryx, Gregory, Deuter, Ortovox, Berghaus should do. Keep it below 2 kgs, semi-rigid and there's usually a massive selection available second-hand.
darz bór!
Thank you very much, all the best for the season!
Usa um 30-06? Sua arma tem realmente muita precisão, realmente impressionante.
Sorry no. Nothing wrong with a 30-06, but 6,5mm is cheaper here so I use 6,5x57R and 6,5x55 and sometimes even 6,5 PRC.
What scope cam are you using and do you like it?
@@jcbushveld849 Triggercam 2.0 and as far as I know it is the best available on the market. Solid, steals some light from the shooter and not fully waterproof. The image quality you just saw is about as good as I can make it from that system. Poor WiFi so sharpen your image via mini HDMI/ monitor or test import images before going off.
