I once caught up with a fisherman on the river who had been filming, it had taken 4 hours for him to fish the stretch that had only taken me 45 mins.

And yes, a lot of more efforts to bring down your prey, but hey, also thii is part of this kind of hunt. Weidmann heil. 🇮🇹😉
Great sharing your experience. Last weekend had the luck to do the same with K95 - outstanding gun. I love my Leica Geovid HD-B for that reason. It shows you the distance and the bullet drop at that angle. No useless data. And the 10x32 is perfect. Also when the animals are moving that much, I personally prefer not to take a risky shot at distance. At 250m the bullet flies 1/3 of a second. Thank you for all the great Content and carrying the extra gear, so that we all can grow with you.
Thanks. I used the Leica since they first came with a laser rangefinder. Excellent optics, but almost 20 years development had a palpable difference in image quality when I got the Swarovski. However, I had a chance to review the new Leica Geovid R (an updated version of my old binos) and it is possibly the best premium value-for-money on the market. If I could buy again, I would have gone Leica.

Incredibly well made video! I enjoy your content a lot. Maybe you said somewehre in the video but I missed that piece of information but: I consider to go for a K95 in 6.5x55. Is a 52cm barrel too short in your opinion?
First of all: Congratulations on you choice, both the K95 and 6,5mm. For me, opning the K95 has been surprisingly enjoyable for mann reasons; the rifle shot much better than expected, I have really enjoyed learning to finish the wood and the rifle itself has been a catalyst to go on new adventures. That said, all the 6,5mm variations give very reasonable recoil and good knockdown. I have 6,5x55/6,5x57R/6,5 PRC. The only reason for getting the PRC barrel was to shoot the heaviest bullets at highest possible V0 (147gr V0 850-890 msec) AND have the option of shooting copper bullets at high V0 (120gr V0 >900 msec). The x55 and x57R and Creedmoor variations all do the same and will shoot a 120-130gr bullet at V0 840-850 msec with good precision, this is from a 50cm barrel. I have found this perfectly adequate to drop the chamois, roe deer and big red deer (>100kgs) really hard; it’s all about bullet construction and shot placement. But the muzzle blast gets a bit intense in short barrels, so I definitively recommend a silencer and/or ear defenders. Without a silencer, I cannot see any reason to go with a shorter barrel and the standard 57/58-65cm would make for a more pleasant rifle. The only reason I could think of would be moving through dense brush with the rifle strapped to the backpack, the tradeoff would be intense muzzle blast and general unpleasantness when shooting.
@@THLR thank you for you detailed explanation. The root of my question is: I am looking for a rifle for mountain hunting (your chamois hunt is kind of a perfect example). As I am living in Switzerland, I need a short and handy rifle that is not as bulky as classic Sauer505 or R8… so I am looking for the best calibre for a 52cm barrel. On one hand I read that the .308 would be no brainer that would fit perfectly. However the 6.5 is also an attractive bullet. So if you consider my position… would you pick the .308 over the 6.5 and if a 6.5 why not a creedmoore instead of the classic 6.5x55? Stock wise- even I admire your handwork on your custom… I would opt for the plastic version.. even though I dislike the thumbhole… all the best to norway!
@@c4lmyourmind I have absolutely no objection against the 308, it is great, precise and readily available and I have shot tens of thousand rounds with it. However, the 6.5 seems to do the same with less recoil AND in Norway also cheaper. I would let local supply and cost decide, if Creedmoor and x55 is at equal pricepoints there’s no reason not to take the Creedmoor. For me, the Creedmoor would just double my expenses and 308 would likely see me add 20-30%

A lucky miss due to way to much going on with filming and mind not being on the hunt . Time for a camera person ? 🤷♂️ but nevertheless great video and hunt 👍
A camera person would be nice, as a minimum it would take some weight off me, but then I would also have to create an economy around these films. As it is, there's no money going in and a cameraman would be an unsurmountable expense. I quite enjoy doing exactly what I want to do without any external commitments; money is easier to make in my dayjob.
Rushed the shot. Probably overconfident. It's good that you could verify the miss with footage. Here in Switzerland you'd be legally obliged to get a dog on it otherwise. Lots of work for everyone, we have the same if not worse terrain here and approaches can take hours, as can dog stalks... I'm thinking of filming my shots on phone through the spotting scope for this reason. Gonna try... We also have maximum legal shot distances and regulated calibers/bullet weights so that bullet drop only factors in minimally, you basically don't have to adjust for it.
Same rule here, you are required to have a certified tracking dog available. It's a good rule. I've seen magnetic eyepiece covers for the spotting scope, the phone just snaps into place. Cannot remember the name, but seems like a good solution.

Awesome video!!!
Thanks Jimmy
A lucky miss due to way to much going on with filming and mind not being on the hunt . Time for a camera person ? 🤷♂️ but nevertheless great video and hunt 👍
A camera person would be nice, as a minimum it would take some weight off me, but then I would also have to create an economy around these films. As it is, there's no money going in and a cameraman would be an unsurmountable expense. I quite enjoy doing exactly what I want to do without any external commitments; money is easier to make in my dayjob.
I see at 9.10 that the same old activities are happening in the sky in Austria as well as in NZ and the rest of the world too for that matter!.
Yes being in Central Europe certainly involves a fair bit of air traffic overhead.
Magview S1 was the adapter
@@THLRmuch appreciated... That's a nice adapter indeed.
If I had a dollar for every time I replicated the results at the range on the field...
I'm a bit curious, would it be enough for a downpayment on a house? :D
@@THLR fighting our ego is very important, but let's not punish ourselves to that extent... we can settle on a new quality sleeping bag ;)
