Just a quick tip. I also use swabs on a string. If you simply open the breach and hold a vacuum cleaner hose over the muzzle, you can suck the pulling end of the string right thru baffles and all. This even works with the Gamo Swarm system @ the half-cocked position where the pellet probe is clear of the breech. Hope this saves everybody some headaches. Happy shooting!

Another good video but just a tip when sorting a pellet place the tins on either side and with 3 tins place one in front of you so in case of an accidental slip you won't compromise what you already sorted by crossing over one open tin to reach another.

Patience...like that is rare bud. You are the man. Sorting pellets for what they cost and the prestige that brand carries in the air gun world, and seeing the difference in weight and size feels to me like they should all be the same in weight and size but I guess they aren’t. I never weighed or measured them myself. Thank you I was completely unaware of this.

hi to find out if from same factory look at the Batch Numbers, if the same number its gonna be from same factory, to sort pellet further, get a small piece of glass, put two pellets on the table under each corner nearest to yourself and place a pellet on its side at the top of slope let it go, if it rolls perfectly its a good skirt and balabce well, if its noiser than the others the skirts damaged or its unbalanced, easy to do simple to sort out, suggest failed pellets be used in kids or other not high end guns, as noisy or jumpy pellet rolls if it will roll, shows skirt damage or unbalanced this will create a flight wobble and instability that will destroy your groups, washing and drying them helps remove any manufacturing debris from them a little dish soap(washing up liquid in U.K.) helps remove oils etc and hair dyer or heat gun to dry, some people place on oven trays and place in hot low heat setting oven to dry out, power pellet lube is also a help or WD 40, whatever you prefer, this improves the pellets ability to group better, and if you have problems you can check out the shooters technique and gun set ups, hope this may help some one cheers good vide .

I don't sort on weights of pellets. Just head size with my custom head sizer and I use 3 different bandwidths.
4.499mm and smaller to practice with
    4.50mm - 4.51mm shooting WRABF
    4.511mm - 4.53mm shooting WRABF
JSB pellets are all from the same factory. At the back of the tin is the batch number.

You do not want to work the bore from the muzzle end, the clean cut crown is critical for accuracy, at least in high power rifles. If the crown is irregular a burst of gas hits the tail of the pellet or bullet as it exits and could cause wobble. So pull through from the breech.

Good Information. I tried weighing my Crosman 7.9 Match Grade Wadcutters. I got two piles; 7.8 and 8.0. There were a few 7.7 and 8.1 Not sure how accurate my scale is. I kept hitting TARE to ensure the scale wasn't drifting. I'm sure that eventually i will find a pellet way out of tolerance.
One thing you failed to mention with the weighing and head measurements, is to also check for pellet damage. Occasionally I find a pellet with an indentation on the side or skirt, and I believe these little imperfections can cause you to get the occasional fliers.
For now I will must weigh my pellets to see how much difference there is. Apparently there are gauges that are sold that you can drop your pellets through to get accurate diameters. Problem is these gauges cost quite a bit.

Wow .0015” I wouldn’t have expected an entire thousandth and a half of difference between the diameters but now that you mention it I do occasionally have to really force a pellet to seat in my break barrel so...makes sense. Should have finished watching before commenting, but your smallest was .38mm and largest was .50 so we are talking about a .005” difference in inches, for reference a sheet of paper is around .0025” or half of that difference so yeah, I can definitely see how that would affect accuracy and probably also muzzle speed.

If you put the cover down over the pellet when weighting it will give a much more accurate reading. Sensitive scales like these need to be will very the weight read out from just the air moving around the room.

Good advice. I guess if you are doing precision shooting, you may want to get it down to the same grains in your sorting. Found that 5gr can make a difference, especially with wind, humidity and distance. For the everyday shooter it doesn’t really make a difference. For precision shooting competitions it will make a difference. Also crimping the head size makes a difference. Same head diameter. Not precision shooting, don’t bother, just have fun.

When are we going to eliminate pellets and just go with slugs? That way the prices would go down and they can make pellet base slugs for shorter range pest control. Companies can just make slug barrels from now on as i find they are less finicky once tuned compared to pellets. I don't shoot pellets. When I need to shoot birds off trees I use a pellet base slug as they cause more drag to lessen the chance of your slug visiting the next zipcode over from you. lol.

I don't weigh pellets. i do size them. I seldom buy tins of pellets, I buy cardboard boxes of 1,000 or something. The CPs are fine out of the PCP and springer for playing field target. My chrony reveals all sorts of consistency. I do not use chinease anything. No harbor fright calipers or $18 junk electronic scales. I reload for powder burners.
