39:09 “Don’t knit ugly things.” Best new years advice. I just frogged an entire scarf before I started watching this episode. You made me feel better about it. ❤

Lovely to see your new podcast. Adore your festive sweater. The word you are looking for is ‘nail file’. I know English is such a weird language

Hi Sarah, love your festive jumper. Some suggestions for those words that alluded you.... could look up 'early riser', nail file and emery board, parrot (hard T sound). I'm not a multi-colour type of person, but I do like your work cushion, (one side in particular). Thanks 😊

Welcome back, Sarah! I have missed you. I hope you had wonderful holidays. Instead of being lonely and sad, I watch your older episodes. It makes me happy. I love to knit while I’m watching your videos. The socks that you hate did still bring you joy, even if it was while you were cutting them up. Lol. I think that part of the pattern was supposed to be peppermint like candy canes. It was a FAIL. Sorry to the dyer.

Wishing You Many ❤ Jumping Moments in 2024😊. I follow FB gardening sites too. A woman on a site decided to paint pictures of flowers since she can’t gardn because of the winter. So I decided to knit The Secret Garden sweater by Elenor Mortensen. So I have my own little garden for the winter. May try to do a “gardening pattern “ each winter to help with the perspective 😊

I think the red and white in those Christmas socks look like peppermint candy canes. It's a very typical American Christmas candy. (Just google it to see a picture of a candy cane.) Many Americans even hang them on their Christmas tree. So I think it's a very Christmas looking color/pattern to most Americans. I moved to America as a child from Germany. I had never seen candy canes until I moved here. Probably by now they are available everywhere. But the image of them is definitely a Christmas image. I'm sure that's what the yarn company was thinking. But I love your idea of not knitting anything you think is ugly! I'm all for that. I had the same problem with one of my bamboo needle tips . Using a nail file worked fine for me because the splinter was further down on the needle. Not near the tip. I'm now inspired to rip out a whole shawl I knit. It' s just ugly on me - just doesn't fit to me at all. I also thought about gifting it to someone, but like you I can't give away something I think is ugly! Happy New Year to you!

I just returned from a trip to the Netherlands. We spent our time in Friesland visiting Friesian horse breeders although I did get to visit several yarn shops in Leeuwarden to bring home souvenirs. You live in a very beautiful country that is incredibly free from litter on the roads and streets. Also the absence of homeless people is commendable. The food was delicious everywhere we stopped. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there.

The festive sweater ia really beautiful, I am inspired to get the pattern and try to knit the different motifs. That sock yarn for Christmas socks has caused many people lots of pain! I was watching another podcast and the knitter had huge problems with the patterned part as well. And it is an ugly colour combination! It worked really well when you cut out those parts and added the brown! It felt amazing to see you cut the "ugly" sock 👏🏽👏🏽 Happy New Year!!

You can ‘file’ your nails 😊 with a nail file, or it is sometimes called an emery board because of what it is covered with.
Also, I wonder if the oily balls are like our doughnuts? Are they sweet? If so, then I believe that may be the same. We do have holes in the middle so the dough cooks more evenly. If they are not sweet, they may be more like what we call bagels. I would love to try one!!
Parrot! 🦜 yes!! I love how wonderful your vocabulary is!!
And I totally understand your thoughts about processed or treated wool, like superwash, vs. non-treated. It’s like when wool doesn’t smell sheepy I find I don’t really care for it!! I thought I was just weird 😂
    Thanks for a wonderful video!

Happy New Year! I was certainly telling you it's a nail file in English ( I was) --so close in sounds! 😂(I always talk back to the screen; it's just how it is). You could always use that filed needle tip on the left for knitting in the round and it won't matter if the size or shape is different (of course as long as you remember to do that 😉) but you probably know that already. Love the festive makes and being comfortable to stop working on something you don't like (and rip it out). It's disappointing to not like it, but that feeling passes much faster than continuing to be unhappy and knitting on it.

Hello, Happy New Year and welcome back. My heart jumped when I saw your episode on my UA-cam feed this morning. 👏💞
We use a nail file (rhymes with 'smile') to file or shape our nails. And, like you, I too like to use a cushion behind my back for support when knitting. It is good for my posture.

Happy New Year Sarah 😊. I know what you mean about the fit of jumpers with the high neckline. I'm having the same feeling just now knitting Rebecca Clow's Alder sweater. It's beautiful, but I'm not sure I'll find it comfy enough to wear often. There's a lot of heavy fabric across the chest. Also, I hope your friend perseveres with the sock! I recently found an old notebook I was using when I was knitting my first sock, and that page was like AAAAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! 😂 I'd forgotten that I ever found it so difficult - now socks are my easy TV knitting!

Welcome back and Happy New Year to you and yours! 🎉 In Scotland, the last day of the old year is called Hogmanay, and traditionally we used to eat a steak pie supper, and eat shortbread biscuits and black bun (a fruit cake surrounded by pastry), and a lot of drinking to bring in the New Year. Not many people do that nowadays. They still do the drinking though! 🥃😅 🤎🤎🤎

I am left handed and a continental knitter; I also have trouble teaching someone to knit. I stood behind my niece and put my arms under hers and held the needles so she could see and that worked out really well. I also like to learn knitting on my own because I can be easily distracted 🤔🤷‍♀️🙇‍♀️ Really enjoyed your new year podcast.❤❤

Hi Sarah, I’ve been enjoying your videos since my sister in Texas, USA told me about you. That’s a funny statement that my sister in Texas is telling me about a Dutch Vlogger and I live the Netherlands and didn’t hear of you. I love your style of your videos. I do have a question. I have seen two videos where you speak about your Hinterland dresses. I had to look that up as I wasn’t sure what type of dress that was and then I watched this video and you talked more about it. Maybe at the end you will give the information I’m asking for but if you don’t I would like to know where you got your pattern from. I also love that style of dress but haven’t seen any already made dresses in the stores. I don’t like trying on clothes in the stores during the winter and I also just don’t really do much shopping for clothes. I am wearing a sweater right now that I brought with me 25 years ago when I moved here. I look forward to your new videos and will continue watching your older ones.

Hi Sarah, I don’t know if anyone has already told this. I think unless you’ve lived in the Netherlands, you won’t have a clue what olie bollen are. I’ve heard so many translating it exactly as you did and then saying no that doesn’t mean anything that makes sense. I actually just looked it up on Google and they say, deep fried doughnut balls. That is perhaps the best translation you’ll find. We don’t really have anything like olie bollen in the US.
