Alec Steele Blacksmith 2022 - Розваги
6:38 Alec will forget where he put the handle he was working on.
My exact thought was imagining him opening every drawer in that toolbox before finding it
100000%
It's wherever he put the 4 jaw chuck 😅
The middle manager instinct is strong in Jamie. I expect him to lord over Alec’s productivity soon.
I suspect that he already is. 😂
Alec I dare you to make a sword without any power tools
That would be cool I’m trying to do that myself and I can’t find a good quality video that explained the process without power tools at all
Why do you keep on with this every single video he uploads? Nobody wants to see a 17 part series of him hammering and hand filing a sword.
That would be epic.
And ofcourse, go back to his roots and use a coal forge
Get ready for a 600 part build. 😂😂
Brother! A hand plane for woodworking. Your dad's a woodworker, how had rhis not happened? Bronze body, Damascus everything else with French scroll work. This could be a huge series to like your old viking sword
the one frame of alec suddenly looking right at us in the timelapse at 4:40 is haunting
FOR SURE!
4:44
Fun fact, 444 in Eastern culture symbolises death and misfortune. Maybe that's why he added that creepy part in that specific second.
It would be cool if you could visit Sheffield, and see them being made, such a huge history of steel and cutlery.
This would be ace!
Cerekote can be applied to threads of screws without putting them out of tolerance, the coating is very thin. Unless you over apply it it wont fill your texture.
11:13 BLUE DYKEM ...I keep hearing the song in my head each time I see it and use it in my own projects.
Always loving the blade builds.
for your threading problem: 10:17 use a 4 jaw chuck!
Came for the build, stayed for the 🎶🎶red dykem🎵🎵
oh wow thats looking very nice 👀
also for the concerns about cerakote filling the divots, i think one of its main benefits is that it adds almost no material, that's why you don't have to plug screw threads etc for use on guns
One of the things I've always been impressed with is the usage of safety equipment. The results are beautiful, but the safety while making those results is nothing short of amazing. Well done.
I love watching this series style videos. They are the kind of videos I came her for! Great job Alec!
Fantastic knives! I remember you building the Damascus one too! Yes I’ve been around that long 🥹
Same
Same
same
The reason for the ribs on the original Fairbairne Sykes British Commando Knife , was so your hand won’t slip from blood 🩸 coating the handle.
I'm happy to see you making one of these, it really helps me appreciate the craftsmanship of the original design. I'm lucky enough to own one of the originals from WWII with the leather sheath. It has always been my favorite knife in my collection
Watching you videos makes me want to go out into the garage and start making another knife.
Also love the edit where it’s a music montage, pauses to here you shriek about a little mess up, then back to the music montage.
Alec, you should make a V42 Stiletto next! Or for a challenge make a Damascus M1 Garand Sword bayonet!
Yes! I absolutely love the M1 Garand, seeing Alec make a bayonet for one would be epic!!!
I step out of the way every time I chuck any wood into my lathe and you just loaded in a dagger. Brave.
no hay momento en que te vea y no me sienta inspirado, de verdad no han sido meses faciles, y ver tus videos me hacen feliz y con ganas de salir a comerme el mundo, gracias por ser como eres alec, eres mi inspiracion
Made me smile with the ghostly Dykem voice in the distance. I miss the ole days of the Blue Dykem song!!!!
This is legit the first video i can watch again of ur content.
used to watch it with my ex, took me legit 4 years to try it again :.)
Our boy's back and rid himself of that Red Dykem nonsense! Welcome back to the land of the living Alec, and I suspect Jaime had a sneaky hand in returning the shop to sanity, thank you!!!
I'd like to see you make another historical dagger in the future with modern twist, but if you need more grip for the handle, I'd use G10 or micarta.
Knurling wheel in the lathe, just a thought. Always a nice and fun watch Alec and team!
Good looking blade, and the stippling on the handle gives it a nice finish- great job!
Some clear, rubberised/silicone piping within the fluting, so the pattern remains almost the same, but with a little extra grip from the slightly raised rubberised fluting
Spirals of texturing wrapping in the opposite rotation of the flutes might look neat.
love your vids keep them up, when turning the blade use 4 jaw chuck instead of doing the skethcy stuff.
Jamie, you have been editing these videos for a long time now and have put some funny stuff together. That being said, I think the peak of all of that is in this video at 8:43. Not sure how you can go up from there honestly
I love how this video has two different colors of Dykem and three different ways of applying said Dykem (Spray, marker, and brush). Brilliant content lol
Here since the first dagger - never left- never going to 👍🏽👍🏽
I can't wait for this project to be a finished blade! Cheers!
Love a fairbyrne sykes commando dagger, your content and enthusiasm are always entertaining
Ooof that last shot was gorgeous. Those grinds are so straight and uniform 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I love those blades so much!!!
As always SUPERB quality vid! Just in idea (too late now but perhapas on a different handle if its "twisted") could do every other "upper bit" of the twist! None the less keep up the great craftsmenship!
Cerakote should be 0.0005”-0.001” thick when properly applied, so the stippling wouldn’t have been buried under the material.
TIP: Fill your flutes with Hot Glue, waxed twine or similar to prevent marring them during stippling and similar processes. 👍
Haven't watched an Alec Steele video in a while but it's great having your energy back!
I remember when you were just a kid in your workshop man how far you have come glad Jamie is still with you a side note how is the house coming along ?
I love your stuff Alec keep it up!!
I'm particularly excited about this build goes, because the video from 6 years ago was the exact one that got my hooked on this channel in the first place! This is awesome and I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Am I the only one that would like to see Alec forge a katana in the traditional style using modern tools. I know we've all see him forge them using western methods, but I think it would be interesting to see him do it in a different style than he normally would.
FINALLY!!!! THE BLUEDYECEM-SONG HAS BLESSED US BY RETURNIG!
OH, JOY!!!
"Pro" Tip: Cerakote doesn't like to stick to bare metal, however it does bond well to parkerized finish and it also applies nicer if you are pulling part out of the hot salt bath tank then degrease and spray while it's still hot before you ultimately cure it in the oven.
I would have cut in a ring around the top and bottom of the handle flutes to serve as a cleaner border transition for the stippling.
A replica of the Cold Steel Urban Dart would be a good test of your skills!!!
I would have thought knurling the raised areas and not the fluted area on the lathe would have worked and provided grip. Would have kept a nice clean organized liik.
You should have a PLAY WITH a variety of different weight FROSTING/TEXTURING WHEELS on either a pendant motor or polishing lathe as a QUICKER way of achieving STIPPLED SURFACE FINISHES.
Great video! I have the Ufo 2. It's really very effective. Love it!
Next challenge, make SOE's Lapel dagger , but here's the kicker: since a Lapel dagger is very simple, make it as if you're roleplaying a resistance fighter making his own Lapel dagger from what he can find.
I must say the stippling turned out much better than I expected. I wonder if you considered checkering between the grooves like on a gunstock. Of course, that is much easier on round stock using a knurler but I think you could have figured it out on the tapered handle by using a pattern guide and a groove cutter on the lathe to essentially cut a thread and then reverse the thread to make the checkered pattern. Quite a challenge but I’ll bet you and Jamie could handle it.
Nicely done
Coming together so nice! Love it.
Give you props for using what you're learning from other trades. Mark of a true tradesman.
Having worked a lot with cerakote, you can apply a matte finish with a proper mix.
Okay hear me out, since you have been using the lathe more and more lately, I think it would be really cool if you made a barbell to lift weights with. You could even try and forge the end sleeves to shape and do some complex knurling work!
You should totally do a remake of the Viking Blade, but this time, using only traditional tools and techniques.
This is a vague suggestion I know, but it would be interesting to see you dive into leather working tools and using them. leather workers have some really cool tools and blades. Love the vids as always!
As someone who LASER welds 8 days a week this made me chuckle.
I hope you make an “S Curve” guard like the first pattern FS blades had.
I can't wait for the finished product!
Only Twenty More Parts! 😂
And idea for another knife build...The Subtle Knife from HIs Dark Materials (the series not the movie) 2 different kinds of steel and a cool twist moving into the hilt.
Surely the Royal Marines would appreciate a dagger like this for some sort of graduation award? It is in their badge after all. Aren't the originals made in Sheffield? Factory visit?
I was waiting to see the blade go flying across the shop when you chucked it into the lathe!! Glad that didn't happen!!
I was disappointed Alec's scream at 8:44 wasn't added to the rest of the music going forward
Alec where do you keep all of your old projects. Is there like a room that you display them in or all they all in a pile somewhere. I think we would all love to see a display of sorts.
Great to see you using blue dycum as usually it was red 👍
Very cool dagger design. Stay safe.
I think a rolled knurling would look awesome
It’s coming along nicely so far. Forge On. God bless.
This is my favorite dagger design.
For the love of God someone send this poor man a four jawed lathe chuck!!!!
Looks great Alec and Jamie!
*FINALLY!!!!!!* The red Dykem has left (hopefully) and we are back in the land of Blue Dykem!!! That is more of a relief then you could possibly believe........ unless you've been watching Alec since before moving to the USA. 😅😂😂😂😂
The return of his true love (and accompanying little melody) 'bluuuueee dyckemmm'
😊
Cerakoat when properly applied should add no more than .0005" to .001" in thickness
The 'AHHH!' with the music. xD
4:43 Me when i see the shadow people out the corner of my eye
This looks so cool 👍👍
When when when will we have part 3? I need it! :D Freaking awesome build
Imagine producing with that detailing level for every soldier from WW2. The commando draggers would be delivered only at the end of the war. 🤣
Nice project Alec
3 minutes in and I’m yelling “Knurl it, knurl it” at the screen 😂
Turning between centers! Nice!
effectively... (4 jaw chuck has left the chat)
Alec could you put the metal with paper glued to it into the fire, so you won't have to worry about peeling it off at the end??
Cera-coat goes on so thin, you can even apply it to threads and they’ll still work so no need to worry about it sticking to stippleing. Its nothing like paint or powder coat
Love it! ❤
Flash backs of "Blue Dichem!"should be released as a single.😄
There is my fav song! (Blue Dicom) Keep it up Alec and Jamie :D
Is this you Alec warming up to do another versus with Will? I do hope so those are my favorite
At 9:25 you looked like a grandpa about to tell me a story. lmao
Run a spiral the opposite direction for a large checker.
Just put some Flex Seal or spray-on Teflon for teh gripz.
My Favarite Channel!
It's too late now, but what about rifle checkering for future such projects? It follows the flow of rifle stocks, you can make plaid-like patterns by skipping rows, and generally do interesting things with it if so inclined.
Man thats looks good
A keen eye recognizes the Tyler Bell tshirt! Can we expect a colab soon?
Have you ever thought about putting awkward pits of metal into a chunk of wax so it'll fit in the lathe or would it heat up too much and melt while working?
