Interesting piece. I have cable slides so the cables tighten when drawn in and there’s no slide movement. ❤
If the slide motors commonly tend to fail, the motors should be EASILY accessible to repair. Easier to manually retract. There needs to be a new design. Just saying.😎I LOVE this channel. Safe travels.
Thanks, appreciate you watching. Obviously every slide is different. These are hydraulic and the motors are in the front compartment, so nothing to really do with this style slide coming out on the highway if a motor failed. This is more for stabilizing.
My Schwintek slide motor failed though, that sucked to replace!! 😬
I’ve been using these on my 2015 Solitude and they work great. Great tips on adding to your checklist. We put a label right next to the side switches reminding us to remove the locks before operating the side buttons.

My 06’ Beaver Monterey actually came with this system to lock in my kitchen/salon glide. It’s the only way to keep that glide from tipping and slamming while traveling.

Thanks for the reminder I need to get some of these. These slide braces have been around for years in various forms. I had one about 20 years ago. At one point some manufacturers were even including them with new RV’s. They are super handy.
Yeah that’s what I’ve heard from others in the comments. Guess it’s just something I’ve never come across. 🤷🏻♂️
We have Schwinteks and rack and pinion. They do not move at all.
Yeah this is more for hydraulic slides
I have seen these. And they do work. Just don't over tighten them and blow out a wall or slide by cranking them so much it begins to wreck things.
Right on. I agree it doesn’t take much to keep them tight and take that wiggle out of the slides.

@@martymalone4094 I guess it’s something that has been around for awhile. I’ve just never seen it but it’s a good idea to take the wiggle out of the slides.
Our 2019 Rockwood Mini Lite came with one of these. The dealership recommended that we not use it as it often caused damage, especially if you forgot to remove it before trying to extend the slide. Our owner's Facebook Group also generally advises against using these. We have never used it.

Sound concept, but just seems like the "pad" that goes against the wall should have more surface area so as not to dent or wear the wall. I understand that you don't put a lot of torque on it, but it seems that while going down the highway, such a small pad would start to dig into the wall.
Yeah I could see that. But it is right up against a stud because it’s against the the edge of the slide wall. Something to monitor. 👍🏼

When I purchased our Rockwood Travel Trailer it came with one of those. I used it a couple of times but always worried about forgetting to remove it.

These came standard on a 2010 Forest River we used to own. I remember these also came with large bright orange warning hang tags stating, “REMOVE BEFORE EXTENDING THE SLIDE”
I’ve heard that from some other people now too. Putting it on our unhitching checklist plus I’ll see the one right by my retract slide buttons. Thanks for watching

Haha right! Well it would have to be really short and then I’m not to sure about the quality and strength at that point.
Newer Newmar motorhomes have an auto locking mechanism that locks on each end of their slide outs. The older models had a manual lock that you had to use a tool to lock.

Could you use one of these to prop up/support the 5th wheel hitch, once parked, to reduce front end 'jiggle'?
No that’s not what it’s intended for at all.
My slides don’t rock like the ones he showed. I’d check out the tracks. They might need adjustment.
Get the one that will allow you to place it on top of the slide as it can loosen and fall out if placed on the side. In my pusher it would land on my wife’s head. No it’s never happened since I realized this way ahead of that.
Looks like that slide needs more than a brace...
If you have that much movement and you apply that brace, the wall of that rv is going to break.
Our rack and pinion slide on our Rockwood has no movement, has never moved from closed position in 10k miles so far.

So when you're done traveling can you use them outside to keep hot or cold in or out.i would imagine they would leak.

I had these on a hybrid trailer slide. They work great - until it pushes the fascia off the slide. I won't be using them on my coach

So I am assuming that you need to make sure it is positioned on a stud in the wall.
No not at all. You aren’t putting that much tension on it. Now it wouldn’t hurt to find a stud but I’m definitely not cranking down on it that much to where I feel the need to find a stud for it. Buuuuuut more than likely it’s being positioned at the edge of the sidewall anyways so there should always be a stud there.
@@WhyWait that’s what I was thinking. I would hate to place it somewhere on the wall that doesn’t have some kind of bracing behind it. Then hit a pot hole in the road and it punches a hole in the wall
@@Capt-John-T-Moore I think it would just lose tension and fall if that was going to happen. We have a curtain rod in the loft, tight tension and most times it just falls. I’d imagine same concept.
A solution looking for a problem.
Those came with slideouts 30 plus years ago. Rack and pinion slides do not need them
IMHO I don't think that is a good idea. In the short term it might work as designed, but long term you are putting a load on the wall of the RV and the wood frame of the slideout. I would like to see how the wall of the RV and the slideout wood frame are holding up after maybe a 400 mile trip over various road conditions.
How do you place it to ensure that it doesn't punch through a wall if you hit a hard bump or rough roads?

You really aren’t cranking down that tight on it so it shouldn’t be an issues. Plus placing them where they go should mean that they should be on a stud. 👍🏼
