I saw a video once for a mall which was designed for individual ownership of the retail spaces. There are a lot of guys who would like to own and operate a lathe, or a mill, or whatever. But they don’t have the money to run a complete machine shop. I wonder if a big empty building could be converted into a cafeteria-style machining center. Perhaps thirty spaces; each with a different guy who owns one machine. And that’s all he does. A lathe guy, a surface grinder guy, an overhead mill guy; etc. No central authority. Each man quotes his own jobs.
I heard about a shop that started like that, only a few guys though. It lasted a short time then one of them was running things and they were hiring employees.
Some hardware stores have a similar concept in Germany. They have a workshop which you can use and theres someone who can explain through the different machines and tools. We have independent community car shops too. I don't know if the demand is big enough for these machining shops but sounds like an cool business idea
A wonderful machine, short in length but when required can accommodate larger length works also.
I think it’s one of the strangest centre lathes I’ve ever seen ! What’s it’s purpose ?
Very interesting machine
Sorry, this machine is sold
