Without question the cleanest , most perfect mix I've EVER heard, of any song. Everything just pops out and punches you in the earholes. Simply amazing.
A friend in the 00s once asked me where late 70s funk went in the 80s. I replied: Prince and Duran Duran. He laughed about Duran Duran until I played him some. Duran Duran was the funkiest band of the 80s. The 80s: _Lived 'em. Loved 'em. Miss 'em._
This song remember me when I was a child in 1987. Great times. Only school, homeworks and video games ... Hot summers, sea and phishing. I miss that thing because now everything is a skin trade
Duran Duran hit so big and hard back in the early 80s that you couldn't go anyplace without hearing something about them.. I liked them a lot but we were so oversaturated with them within a couple of years that I think people needed a break, I know I did.. I think that's why really good songs like this went largely ignored by so many.. This was underlined by the fact that there were so many other awesome artists and bands out during that time.. The 80s, as even young people are appreciating now, was a stellar time for future classic music and movies
Agreed, I could take or leave them in the early 80s but then they started coming out with brilliant stuff like this, and then later Ordinary World and Come Undone. They're a class act.
No need for someone to explain to me ... how great this slick sounding song is. Once more Duran Duran showed they were one of the key bands in the 1980s.
Duran changed and matured with this song . Took it to another level. I know this isn't what a lot expected but it was definitely the right direction to move into
True about Nile Rodgers, black Americans have helped British rock n pop no end. The Stone heavily borrowed n stole from the blues and the mighty Queen influenced by Jimi Hendrix, (alot of bands were I know).
@@philiphalpenny9761 as all duran duran songs are. There are the odd exception, with additional song writing, but few and far between. Indeed, the credit to Le Bon for words, vocal, harmony. My friends and I were in Venice, Italy in February 1987 at a club there when I first heard the single for Skin Trade. The DJ spun the record and played the video on a huge screen along one of the walls of the club. It was fucking magical, all the hot Italian girls squealing with delight as it played. Notorious was a splendid album in 1987. Duran Duran proved it was still the great band of that era, hands down.
All I can say is what I sensed when it came out. Some fans didn't like this darker image of them at the time. Felt betrayed. Was silly. And I even used to. Get in arguments with guys in high school over the better Duran Duran.
Because the people controlling what did, or didn't, appear to do well in the charts were the "skin trade", obviously. Prince didn't put SLAVE on his face for nothing.
Too mature-sounding for the teeny-boppy section of the fanbase, too Duran-y for everyone else. It took until the Wedding Album before the mainstream was prepared to judge the band on its musical output rather than their legacy.
This song definitely has a Prince vibe - the vocals, the keyboards, the guitars, etc. My favorite Duran Duran song right here! "Shotgun for the Wedding" also sounds a lot like Prince. Love it!!!
One of their more underrated songs. Sounds so crisp even after 33 years. A shame music like this wouldn’t get played today. People really missed out on a lot of good tracks.
