The a-ha channel is the official UA-cam home of the Norwegian Pop trio a-ha, who achieved global stardom in 1985 when their debut single, “Take On Me” from the album ‘Hunting High And Low’ topped the charts in 36 different countries on its way to becoming one of the best-selling singles of all time, and the 5th most streamed song of the 20th century. a-ha struck chart gold again with “The Sun Always Shines On T.V.” and “Cry Wolf,” and recorded the theme to the 1987 James Bond film “The Living Daylights”. The a-ha UA-cam channel is proud to host the music videos from these hits alongside live performance videos, lyric videos, and the solo work of band members Morten Harket (lead vocals), Paul Waaktaar-Savoy (Guitar), and Magne Furuholmen (Keyboards).
A-ha is the most underated band ever.
A lot of the most talented bands and musicians were/are underated. Maybe the world should think about it.
Time will justify them, trust me!!!
Funny, I have never seen AHA as underrated. They were beyond popular and traveled the hole world from mid eighties to mid nineties. Fun fact from Wiki: The band were listed in the Guinness World Records book for having the biggest-paying rock concert attendance; they drew an audience of 198,000 at Maracanã Stadium during the Rock in Rio festival. They have sold more than 100 million units, albums and singles combined.

I honestly believe this is one of the best pop songs ever written.
Great tune. Finally a song not about love

Forever a Classic that many mainstream listeners dont know today. At the time these two tracks/videos were released the groundbreaking techniques were stunning. Their 'Take on Me' video starts this story and the way it finishes here in The Sun.. is pure artistic genius !
Criminally underrated song. I love that "Take on Me" has a billion views, but this song is magnificent and people are sleeping on it.
Bro right lately I’ve been listening to their songs and I’ve always loved take on me but I think it’s just them and their music style I love. Like this song? THIS is a beautiful song wow

Such an underrated song from one of the most underrated bands ever. Epic, moving, brilliantly written, produced & recorded. A-ha will always be one of my favourite 80s music groups of all time! 🎤🎧🎶🎸😊
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances of PURPLE RAIN by Prince and EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.

There were many countries where they got decent airplay. They just didn't make the popular top 100 list(s) in the US much.

Everyone always thinks of "Take on Me" when they think of a-ha. This is the song that comes to mind for me. It's a beautifully crafted masterpiece that distills everything that was "totally awesome" in the 80's into one single spectacular melody. A point in time that I truly believe even a thousand years from now humans will look back on with both awe and envy.
This song is a masterpiece!
Well said Max

A-Ha then reminds me of what Muse are today. A few men making a crap load of great tunes with great lyrics and a sound. (Different genres sure, but same kind of setup). Most of their classic songs will never get old - ever. I wish the world could go back to the 80's. Anyone that was a young adult in that time are lucky people mostly.
This song sounds just as awesome now as it did in the 80s. Actually it sounds even better and what a video.
Pure class.
1985 was the height of the 80's. The height sustained until 1988 and that is when the music started to change to sound more like early 90's. I remember thinking in 1988 how the music sounded different than it did a few years earlier. Man, the 80's was a fantastic time to be alive. The music really made the 1980's.
This song takes some beating, by anybody.
Around 93-94 eurodance took over and i thought that every song would be with a man rapping in the verse and a girl singing the chorus...🤣

It's s crime that this isn't the song people know them for. So brilliant. Epic and grandioso, yet so emotionally stirring. One of the great bands of the decade and beyond.
my sentiments exactly!
For me A-ha's greatest song will always be "Hunting High And Low" but this is a close second. Take on Me is remembered more for the video than the song I think. It was a truly groundbreaking pop video back then.
for me the great song by a-ha = take on me
like "take on me" and "train of thought" a lot too, don't you?
The whole album was brilliant, still one of my all time favourites
I was young in the 80s but my radio stations did not play this song. They only played take on me! What a shame, this is an amazing song
There are some misguided people who call A-ha a "one hit wonder band", because all they know, all they ever heard is "Take on me". That they had 11 successful albums with lots of other hits and even more just awesome music... that's forgotten by the "mainstream":
@@Groffili True. Not even close as a "one hit wonder" band. They got 8 top ten hits in the UK, with this one the only No 1 hit there ("Take on me" went at No 2). And quite famous all over Europe.

These days they play this song on radio in my country. It plays older and newer music.

I know! It's obviously 1980s but sounds as fresh and exciting today as it did to us back then. No bands today have such good melodies and exciting music ( except Sigur Ros).
Back in 1985 they were in Concord California. And my sister wasn't allowed to go unless she took me to go see these guys. At that time I never even heard of him. Was always my favourite ah ha song. Something about the melodies! This band was the sound of the 80s
Pål Waaktaar Gamst (now Paul Waaktar-Savoy), the lead guitarist, is also the underrated genius who wrote most of a-ha’s songs, and basically all of the lyrics. Morton of course has that effortless frontman charisma and one of the greatest pop voices of all time, and he deserves all the kudos he gets and more, but I wonder how many people know that he’s mostly singing Paul’s incredible original songs? Plus, as a three piece band (with added members occasionally), they were/are a really tight pop rock group and just as amazing live as on vinyl! No studio shenanigans here, these guys were and are the *real deal* 🎤 🎸 🥁
Yes, Pal was the musical genius, Morten had the voice charisma and Mags the roaring synths but whose contribution is also underrated. The band wouldnt be legendary without all 3 key players. Love them, btw since I was a kid in Greece.
Cool. Didn't know that. Sort of like Depeche mode, where Martin Gore was the musical genius who wrote the songs and Dave Gahan the famous voice.

and so what? their first album was a one hit wonder.
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet No James Bond theme on this album? I dont know which country you are from. But their new albums are still charting at top 10 lists in Europe. Thats better than most 80s bands that still release stuff
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummetWhat utter nonsense…a-ha have released 11 studio albums and sold over 100 million records. Yes their first album sold over 12 million …but that leaves another 88+ million sales of all other albums & singles combined. Sometimes it's painful realizing just how long ago the 80s were. Songs like this take me back to those glorious days of childhood and it almost seems like an eternity. These songs are one of the few windows back to those days, almost like a three minute time machine. The tragedy of growing old....
RyuHayabusa06 We had everything to look forward to in our lives back then. Now all we can do is look back on those time with the knowledge that the anticipation of the future was often better than the reality, and wish we has lingered longer in the moment.
I love 80s as well. Today and forever we can listen to these melodies. :-) Maybe such times come back sometime :-)
Very eloquently stated.
Yes. Simply beautiful. The video sold "take on me" but this is on a different level. The piano intro snd those strings at the instrumental break coupled with Harkets haunting vocals trailing just a split second behind makes it all the more spine tingling. Hinting high and low and stay on these roads slso. Wonderful music

This song is nearly 40 years old and it still gives me goosebumps when I crank it up . One time I was fortunate enough to take my CD over to a work buddy's house where he had and elaborate sound system. Large powerful Mcintosh amp and 6 foot tall electrostatic speakers . OMG. Agreed! A-ha have plenty of great songs. Beautiful lyrics and melody by Mags and Pal, in combination with Morten's heavenly vocals, made some of the finest pop music of the 80's, indeed they created musical jewels!!
Despite that Take on me was basically the only one of their songs played (and over played) in the radio in North America, not South America though, there were HUGE there, thanks to the fans that "discovered" them.
It's funny because their hit "Take on me" is iconic and because of that the band will never be forgotten but their backlog if often overlooked. They're understated but celebrated for their big hit.

In the U.K. ..... yes, in the U.K., this song peaked at no. 1, while Take On Me peaked at no. 2 ..... On the U.S. Pop Singles chart, the Billboard Hot 100, 'Take On Me' went to no. 1 and this song (which I, of course, love) peaked at no. 20 ....
This song is THE greatest melancholy pop song ever written. And you all know it.
The world needs the 80's to make a comeback.

A timeless song; what a masterpiece. This Norwegian group gifted us with this gem. It touches my heart every time I listen to it.
One of the greatest songs ever - never gets old either.
Born in the 60's , raised in the 70's, danced in the 80's what a life .
Best time to be born.
Born in 1961. Was never a dancer but I loved the music of the 70's.
Yeah we were the lucky ones and we didn't even know it

+Attwa Garwoa ARE YOU MALAKAS?
+POTIS1 Yes. It is perfect malakaism. But sometimes it Works, one can become a very famous rapist even by being an impotent malaka. Thanks to technology.
+POTIS1 you forgot to add "OLED" xD
+Barby Van Mattel i agree
+Barby Van Mattel the sun does shine on TV...that's the point. Things on TV are made to look perfect when real life is not like that.
It's a sin how gorgeous he was/is. Even at that young age the bastard knew how to find his light. Should've been a movie star.
He sure does look like he was twenty but he was actually around 27 at the time making him look younger by ten years.
Imagine what they could do with him today . . .
+plutorama He featured in a norwegian movie
HalvorTheSaw - Norsk Gaming Nice. What's the movie called?
It's called Kamilla Og Tyven
After so many years since I first heard this song, still goosebumps

I am sorry for your loss. My dad died from Covid 12/2/2020 and then his baby sister 2 weeks later. His service is tomorrow.
Great song that I never heard until many years later on a local, small budget radio station. And it STILL never gets played on stations playing 80's songs.
As much as 'Take on Me' was a true masterpiece, this just takes the spark for me.. this is an absolute gem of a track, so many melodies, so many moods and so many vibes ✨️
And poignant as f$ck
An absolute beast of a record! One of the best of the 80s.
A-ha, Erasure, Depeche Mode, the Pet Shop Boy and so many more the 80s was the best for music
Without a doubt
Don't forget The Cure as well.
don't forget simple mind's
And def leppard.

One Of The Greatest Popsongs From The 1980s.
That Says A Lot.
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances of PURPLE RAIN by Prince and EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.

There was literally no comparison to my love for a-ha as a teenager in the 80's. Listening today, I'm transported right back to those golden glory days.

Morten Harket, simply one of the most glorious voices in history.
The group Aha is a phenomenon not only of the 80s, but also of contemporary popular music. It can be said that the music and the text go hand in hand in the exclusive music of these days. It is a group that dazzles fans to this day and cannot be forgotten.
80s. So much feeling; so much something genuine.
