Highlighting a wiring problem on ford transit vans which is already a common fault..... wires breaking between the drivers door and the "A" pillar. - Авто та транспорт
Fixed mine today 2016, same issue had no need to remove the whole loom from the door just accessed through speaker and repaired it in situ with crimp, your video helped Thanks

Thank you for your great video. After a couple of things failed I needed to get a new loom which I just fitted in no time thanks to your info. All working again and now I can lock the front doors again. Once again many thanks Top Man!!!

Thanks for this video. It was a great help for me diagnosing a fault on our Tourneo Custom. The driver's door began to show as 'open' when closed. The loom was breaking near the taped part and a new one, which i fitted yesterday, has made us happy again.

Massive thanks for this. Windows were the first thing on mine to go. Tried a new switch unit in the hope it was that and not the loom. It's the loom. Just ordered replacement. As others have said - really difficult to get hold of it's that common a fault. Used would be too risky even if I could find one. Opted for new from a dealer £120.

I have an issue when I turn at full lock right, the passenger door warning pops up for a second or too. Going to get the wiring loom out at the weekend and hope that I can repair it before the wire completely breaks! Thanks for the video Alan
thanks for this.. only speaker is acting up but I assumed more will break and by the looks of your video i was super right. hard to find other than at dealer and some Ford parts sellers in the USA. nothing on ebay or Amazon FYI for others looking
chances are the wires have broken in a part of the loom you can't repair either.....back when I replaced that loom it took a while to get a new one due to factory order

A customer came to our workshop as the light's on trailer he hired from us didn't work on his new transit but did on his other old one
So we said it must be the new transit, could we have a look as Ford are busy till next week

@@alan4x Thanks for this video, helped me out no end. Cured the issue too. I managed to solder one broken wired and repaired three more that were about to let go. I removed the sticky cloth tape thereby giving the loom more scope to flex. All to the good. Thanks again
Absolutely right Alan cheap thin non coloured wire is corner sadly is seen cut in alot of modern vehicles today.

Alan I have a 2017 transit and I says the drivers door is open even tho it is shut, would that be on that same wiring loom as there is no button inside the door to push to see if the message disappears?

mate, im going crazy here in oz tonight. I locked the doors on my 2001 transit crew cab trayback this afternoon and now i cant get back in..I've managed to get a window down and climb inside to remove the door trim but even though i can move the handle and lock mechanisms from inside i still cant open any doors. I think the locking solenoids are deadlocking them but i cant figure how to either manually or electronically overide them..i cant find the said fuses tied to the steering column either..im in aust and its right hand drive but i cant find any fuses that might be the ones on the other side either..man its doing my head in and a new owner is coming iun 3 days time to pick it up and murphys law has bit me good. Any suggestions greatfully appreciated
Being a ex ford commercial tech it is made out to be such a difficult job to remove that door card. It’s five mins to remove. Five to put in new loom and five to refit.

Haha. The more I watch your videos the less I want a new car! Seems to me as we go along things get cheaper and cheaper made so manufacturers can make things we can afford and they can still make a profit. This is not limited to cars; any consumer goods. If you have something old, reliable and reasonably economical; keep it for as long as you; and this is not just for vehicles! Btw we love your humour!

All new vehicles are made to look nice and flashy with all this technology fitted but underneath there a pile of cheap shit I wouldn’t buy a new vehicle nowadays nothing but trouble

Hi Alan I have sort of the same issue just wanted to pick your brains. My windows don't work there is power going to both switches drivers and passengers. Heres where it gets strange, when I try the drivers window the wing mirror repeater flashes. When I try the passengers switch on the drivers door the repeater stays on. Same when I try the passenger side switch. Now just to make this even stranger when I try the heated windscreen the repeater comes on again. Could this be all related to the drivers door loom.

Keep an eye out for the steering hose chaffing/leaking hydraulic fluid issue, AA guy said it was common
Got a 64 plate tourneo and the drivers door wont lock horn beeps and door doesnt lock it thinks the door is open you get the warning on when you drive it.is this just the latch been faulty

Good video straight to it ..... just to add if you open these doors on a windy day the door/support will bend out of shape it does not take much to trash these, i had mine repaired at £300 but should have taken it back to Fords as this is another poor design fault and simply should not happen

I have paid they repair all work well came home Wiring loom which is connected door to van was unattached (flxi Rubber tube) I can see they link most of wire make work and put insulation tape I wondered how both mirrors can go pop same time had this van for year had lots of problems
sounds like the diagnosed the mirrors incorrectly and then found it to be the wiring and tried to repair it, thats a big bill for a wiring repair
@@alan4x lol Well train own manufacturer Enginer diagnosed fee £138 + both new mirrors £750 we trust the label finger get burned
Guys, just make sure you don't prise the door switched out first as the tab can break, if you are taking the door panel off anyway then just unplug the wiring loom from the switches once the panel is off. That switch panel is designed to be taken off after the door panel is removed, not before.
There is a screw underneath the switch unit. It needs to be lifted out to access it and the panel won't come off until it has been removed. (UK Tourneo Custom 2015 build)

can you help I have a 2014 mk8 custom and my interior courtesy lights stopped coming on when a door opens or when I unlock motor with fob , they do come on if I switch them on manually , central locking seems ok all doors lock unlock ok and interior lights fuses ok

Any colour as long as it's black 😀. I noticed all the wires (quite a thin gauge) were black going to the hatch lock on my 2009 Mondeo. I'd assumed it was a choice for security but may it was them just being cheap.
I believe it was for security purposes.
Hey Alan, can you make a video or respond to me if you have the time? Is a mondeo mk4 with a petrol engine (1.8 or 2.0) way better than the diesel ones? And are they made by Ford?
hi, i never had any dealings with a petrol engine in a mk4 but from what i have heard of other people who do they are very good and pretty sure they are ford engines
Late reply but they are Mazda L series engines and are much more reliable than the Peugeot Diesel engines, and have no known red flags on the mk4.

Does this problem with the wires also effect the driver's window operation? The window on mine has an intermittent behaviour of not working and suddenly working again....strange.
yes it can stop the electric window from working
My transit connect drivers window has failed. Mechanic thinks its wiring but has been pulling his hair out trying to find the problem. Instantly annoyed that all the wires are black. I will show him the video in the hope it helps

I have a custom, the break lights won't come on I changed the bulbs change the break light switch and checked all d fuses the door looms look good to, any tips mate????

Its a shame that vehicles are all built to a budget. Ford like many other companies could easily make a vehicle that lasts and is easy to work on, i did hear once that ford make more money from spares than actually selling cars.
Great video Alan I have a 2020 eco blue Limited Transit for Truck, Van & Car repair business- yeh just after New Year I`m finishing a breakdown in the snow in the north west and window wont go up or door lock.vans full of tool & equipment- I`m thinking WTF !
Its barely 12 months old with 9000 on the clock -definitely a warranty job- Ford Transit Centre are shut cos of covid- same fault- multi plug full of blue gunk and snapped/corroded missing connecting pins- cost me £100 for door loom to secure my vehicle- did job myself-emailed ford uk to ask for cost of loom to be refunded-let you know how I get on
hope you get compensation...its just cheap wiring they are using to cut costs
My drivers window stopped working and the locking button, guess it's the loom. Tried pulling the rubber boot back but couldn't see any split wires

The wires are all black just on door looms to stop attempted break ins by shorting/ powering door lock solenoid wires. Thieves cant easily identify central locking wires if they are all black. Thats my understanding.
Anyone familiar with unlocking lock and dead parking sensor problem please?
Cheap wire, More strands per core and silicone or better quility pvc would fix this.
Thanks for this. I've had a squeaky right speaker and a broken window switch on the driver's side. I bought a new switch and fuse. This issue is probably related isn't it? I need to take the door off, follow the wires and solve a bigger wiring problem? Oooooww
if all your issues are in one door then chances are its the loom and as all the wires are black its easier to just fit a new loom

With all the modern technology available nowadays manufacturers certainly appear to be wizards at making vehicles more awkward and unreliable there just plastic and electronic night mares that cost customers more money than needs be !

Maybe get them all out and tape the wire cluster? As a prevention...

update Ford Uk will NOT refund wiring loom cost (£100) as it was not fitted by a "specialist Ford dealer" although they have offered a free service - hahah My breakdown & service van is most definately overserviced by myself as I change the oil approximately 5000 miles as I`m in the trade- Told Ford UK to shove their offer where the sun dont shine and I`m going to VW next year
Naw the Mystery Machine had the front wheels under the driver's butt, the First Toyota van they sent tot he US, the van Mitsubishi sent to the US in the 80's or the first generation of US vans from Ford, Chevy/GMC or Dodge are closer to the Mystery Machine
Personally I would get Fords to replace the loom as it’s not a ware and tire item it’s not fit for purpose

mine was that bad I sold it after 7 months
searched all over and NOBODY talks about the window going up or down for only 2" before it stops and u have to hit the button again. WTF?
if that is happening there is a reset for the one touch windows... hold the window switch until the window goes all the way up and hold for one second.....release the switch for a split second.....hold the switch in the upward position for 3 seconds....the one touch up and down should now work

If the wires were colour coded then you could repair them. How much money have Ford saved by making the wires all black? Can't be much. They will happily sell you a new loom though
What annoys me with theese aswell is the feed for the passenger window first goes to the drivers door 🤷🏼♂️

Yes cheap and nasty wiring loom but not so cheap to replace so why don't ford call these cars fitted with this faulty wiring loom replace them for if they break under 6000 miles free Toyota called all yaris back and replaced faulty air bags modules free of charge even if they did not go off because they knew some had faults

I have a transit custom 2014 and I’ve had the loom eaten twice under the van by foxes and rats apparently not an issiew
This is what happens when they shut the Transit Southampton plant and ship it all to Turkey, cheap and nasty components
yep and ford got a grant from brussells to build factory in turkey and non eu country.

Going backwards are Ford these days especially with using all black cables on a multiplug.
Black cables don't stop at front doors either. Rear doors and no doubt full body loom to screw over motorists keen on do there own repairs. New looms it would appear
Mines a 69 plate 30k miles 2 months out of warranty and my indicators have stopped working passenger side mirror and front. Cheap and nasty.
Fords are a complete joke now days.. cheap nasty trim plastics, poor build quality and bloody expensive parts.. I used to be a massive ford fan, but not anymore.. my heart lies with the old school fords from the late 60's upto the 00's.. My last being a mondy mk3 ST tdci.. I now own a merc, and still have my 77 capri and 89 XR2.. proper built fords..

my transit has started blasting the horn on locking the door via remote, anyone got any fix suggestions 👍🏻
