Great help, many thanks. I had two keys with exact issue with a broken battery terminal. I'd thought for ages the battery was unrepairable, but wasn't prepared to pay the £150 to have it replaced. When the second one went, I found this video I'm too cheap and impatient to buy a new battery, case, solder mop etc and have managed to get mine working again without the need, so thought it helpful to explain how. I just opened the case (as per video. I had the special tool which was very helpful) and noticed the remote worked fine if the battery was forced into place just using my fingers. I was able to force the battery in place and held it there with a strip of insulation tape, and the stuck some foam strip the battery compartment (instead of the silicone shown in the video) to keep the battery in place once inside the case. I checked the remotes worked okay, then used some araldite to glue the case back together. Both keys now work fine, although I would admit it would have been better to have a new battery and resolder as per the video which I will do if the repair doesn't last. I will remove this advice if my repair fails.
Watched two videos from these guys for two different types of keys and they are very informative, highly accurate and tell you what issues may arise while dismantling and reassembling so definitely worth checking out even if you have a fairly good idea what you are doing. Keep up the good work guys
No problem. I know feedback is everything for a company and a company like yours that don't fleece their customers by selling them the parts they need and providing them with the video tutorials to do it themselves saving a substantial amount on main dealer costs should get the recognition they deserve. Thanks again
I find it incredible that you cannot just swap the bloody battery, this must be a Ford money earner for a lot of people who maybe don't have your skills.
Many thanks for the vid bought a focus the spare key blade wouldn't lock shut the dealership would not authorize a new one followed your vid swapped the blades ground a bit off the end perfect fit new key cheers 🍻🍻🍻
Great video and very informative. Ive just got a question... a young lad working at Halfords who couldn't help me reckons the key will need reprogramming back at ford because once the battery is taken out it deletes it's link with the vehicle? Is this true?
Hi Jack, on some cars this is the case. For your Ford we have seen this occasionally. For some reason the van doesn't recognise the buttons being pressed, but then if the key is recoded it starts to work! Not sure why this just happens sometimes, instead of every time. You don't need a dealer, there are plenty of independants that can do this for you if needed
So just to clarify…..to do this I’ll need a replacement battery, some pliers to pop it open, soldering iron, solder, silicone and a new aftermarket case? Cheers
hello, thanks for the video. the link you added seems to be for bmw batteries. is this an error, or are these batteries interchangable with the one for ford transit 350 2018?? thanks alot in advance for your reply.
I've had the same problem with both keys. I thought the warranty would cover the replacement but the Ford dealer(Stoneacre) wanted my van for a full day to do a diagnostic on the key(yeah right) I priced an alternative key fob which came out at £160 each. So out come the tools, opened it up and soldered the contact back to the circuit board. Bingo, it works a dream. Didn't cost me a penny. I will buy a new battery for the other fob but needed a quick fix for the issue on the 1st key. Thanks key man for your help.
Hi, well to be honest, I'm not sure what any warranty covers these days. Keys aren't usually on any warranty. It's amazing how the battery just floats about inside don't you think? It's no wonder the legs snap. Glad you got it sorted
I have just replaced the case on my insignia key which had a worn out button, I followed the video instruction and everything went as it should. I have just saved myself a small fortune as Vauxhall quoted me £360 for a new key 😂 I have done the job myself for £20. Thank you 👍
My key got washed and now won't work the car still starts but the button don't work if I crack this case open same key as your one I have an old focus key would the board fit inside the older version ford key MK2.5focus
Hi, it will fit into a Focus case the same size and shape. But if the key isn't working now, why do you want to swap it? I think you just need a new key
I have this key, it stopped working, and the mechanic told me it will recharge as I take it on a longer drive - is this untrue? Is the source of failure always a faulty battery? Thanks for the video!
Love the video, hoping you can help with a question. I have a ford focus my13 with exactly the same key as this video. Both keys operate the central locking but now only one will crank and start , the other causes "immobilizer active" fault message. Has the transponder chip failed you think?
Hi, we’ll it depends on who does it and what key you are after. From long experience, I only supply genuine OEM keys now. There are cheap copies available but they can be very troublesome. Expect to pay. E tween £180-£250 for a dealer key, or even more at the dealer. Cheaper keys can be as cheap as£120 but I don’t like them and they have caused me lots of trouble
Hi Andrew, no sorry not anymore. We used to fix these by post, but often we'd make sure it was transmitting when it left ours, but didn't work the central locking when our customers received it back. So I think there are other issues, not just the battery
Thanks for the video. This is more A level than the usual Ford remote battery like in the Ford Ranger. Why do they make it so difficult in some Models and a walk in the park for others. Even the Kuga battery is easy. The Ranger is easy and even the after market keys we had made up (remote fobs) at ££ each have simple ways to pop the battery. As it’s a lease Ford key I’m not touching it. Had it been my own absolutely delighted with your video. I have the equipment! Do you have a link to the battery needed although if you have a button battery the casing for the battery probably is much cheaper than the £9-10 any thoughts?
That's great Muhammad. We no longer change the rechargeable batteries as a service as we found sometimes, even though the battery was good and the key transmitted, it wouldn't work. Never worked out why. Did yours work ok after?
Hi Don, yes agree with you, but we've found these only survive one repair. In fact quite often, even when the key battery is changed as in the video, the buttons still don't work, which is annoying!
Hi Henry. Sometimes it's possible to reuse the case. If you do that, you'll need to glue it back shut. WE normally replace the case, just because it's a better job, but both ways are fine, whatever works for you
I have a got a Ford KA and the side bit that holds the battery in the key fob has fallen out and got lost. Does anyone know if I Can I get a replacement please
Hi Patricia, no they're not sold separately im afraid. The best way to fix your problem is probably to buy a used key off ebay, and rob the part from the old key and put it into yours
Thanks for the videon saving some money is good, a question can you give me some indication of that device gnawed to test the remote control? Brand, name, where to find it? Thanks Grazie per il videeo risparmare un po di soldi fa bene, una domanda mi puoi dare qualche indicazione di quell' apparecchio roso pert testare il telecomando? Marca , nome, dove reperirlo? Hi do you provide a repair service on a key....presently using my 2nd key as the original was driving my door alarm crazy, i suspected iffy fob but wasnt aware of the key drop/solder vulnerability. New one works great but would like original repaired. Great vid also.
Hi Andrew. We used to, but we found that after the key was repaired, around half of the time the remote central locking still didn't work. This was even though the key transmitted. In the end we stopped offering it out
A Big No No to use acetic Silicon near any electronics as it will cause corrosion on the board. Always use neutral cure Silicon, so if it smells like vinegar then don't use it.
Great video, I followed the steps today and managed the job so thank you. But I can’t start the van now (the immobiliser is active) can anyone help? Thank you 🙏
Hi Alan. There is a chip in the key, which is not the same as the buttons, which simply lock and unlock the van. It's common the these chips to keys to fail, did you have any problems before you opened the case?
Great help, many thanks.

Great video. I managed to knock the pin out and fit the existing profiled key end to the new ratchet mechanism and all works fine
Good work !
Great informative video.Managed to swap the blade on mine aswell , just need to shave of a mm with a file and it slots in , pin back in and sorted

You can change the battery. But the soldering on the chip had failed if you watched the video....

Does the battery power the transponder/ID chip or just the remote?
