@TGTID entertaining are you crazy? This is so cringe-worthy how can someone take pleasure in destroying a 75,000 to 125,000 US Dollar vehicle? What a friggin' waste if you ask me~ =(
these cars really aren't that expensive to make compared to their sticker price. it is jacked up for customers as everything is for the tech field. and it's for our safety! but I hear ya. I used to feel the same way before I started working in the industry. 😁
Nothing wrong with enjoying a crash test video. It's not like they're being destroyed for fun. And also what TGTID is saying is that products usually have a low cost of production compared to their selling price which is how companies make a profit. For example, an Iphone 7 costs about $230 to manufacture and sells for $600 - $800. Not sure about a Tesla though.

That's what I like about Tesla - they're quick to make engineering changes to improve their vehicles right away, instead of waiting for the next model year.
Epic Benjo well it has to do with their model of how they sell you the car. They are built to order so the changes can be made fairly quickly unlike the big auto manufacturers. Which they actually have third party contractors make different parts of the car. It would cost too much money to change just one thing that's why they wait till the next year model.
The year is when the car model is released. It's a 2016 Tesla Model S. This was filmed in 2016 obviously, this was filmed before the car came out obviously.
Sometimes when a car is based on the same drive train or the same platform, it would be no point to retest because it would be the same, unless actual changes done to the car safety wise.
Are you stupid? The first 3 or 4 of any car are always crash tested for safety. They are dummy cars with no VIN numbers, no ID's, they do not exist. They are made just to crash and then analyze the results.

Tesla really needs to get the 'small' issues sorted. Actually the stories I read are true. In car manufacturing it is much harder to redesign the doors than the engine. Now you need software for the belts too?
I thought the Model S was supposed to be the safest car. In the small overlap test, the driver gets to smash their face into the A pillar and the dash? Awesome!
+Rakitha Peiriz It was supposed to be the safest car in the world. That's how it was marketed. A lot of people got Teslas because of how supposedly safe they were.
It is they disabled the sensors to see the actual crash test if the sensors where enabled the autopilot could sense the car finna crash and would automatically stop and people buy these cars for the tech not the safety

It is not possible to deform a LiOn battery without a violent explosion. If Li contacts 1 atom of oxygen the entire buliding would erupt in a blast you could see from the Moon.
The Zoe is awesome! That said, if a Model S hits a Zoe, I would want to be in the Model S, as the Zoe will act like a bouncy ball due to weight difference. Both going 60, it will be a 40 crash for the Tesla and 80 crash for the Zoe. The energy going into the Tesla will necessarily be the same as for the Zoe, but the direction change will be a lot steeper on the Zoe, putting more stress on the passengers.
How did it not give any protection?have you ever seen a crash test with an unsafe car? They completely crumble and the person inside is crushed. Stiff structure, this is really good! There is no big frontal engine to mess with the driver compartment.
The 2 areas that Tesla is best at are full frontal collisions and rollover. Neither of these are on the IIHS tests.

And the window flying out of the door in full.

Still some work to be done, Tesla..
justinwolfe9 the test in 2016 are better because the test they did here was the P100D model which is lighter than the P90D model because of its roof
