I just figured it was because this is the universe where you can use a rat as a makeshift taser.

A lot of instances of Real Weapons™️ in the anime hail from earlier seasons, back when the worldbuilding of the franchise wasn't as fleshed out as it is today.

Back in Gen 1, Pokemon actually took place in the real world.

For 2:36 the players have been threatened directly before, there's Ghetsis! He threatens the player's body personally in B2W2 (via Kyurem by ordering it to use Glaciate on them).
But more relevant to the overall point of the video, Ghetsis again! In USUM he attacks Lillie himself after *losing* his battle and threatens her life if you don't cast aside your Poke Balls. BUT overall despite these nitpicks, I think these STRENGTHEN your case: someone as ruthless as Ghetsis - someone who threatens to harm others with no Pokemon left, even in the face of trainers who do - doesn't even carry weapons.

Yes, I was thinking of Ghetsis when editing this the other day! I remembered the incident with Lillie, but I'd forgotten the one with Kyurem. Even the most psychopathic villain doesn't use firearms.

Makes even more sense with that as well since ghetsis makes it a point for you to cast away your pokeballs or for you to disarm yourself

I remember one of the guys in the Battle Chateau in Kalos says that he should have challenged you to a battle, not your pokemon after you beat him.

My guess weapons like smal fire arms weren’t created as any person could basically can have 6 super weapon in there pocket considering even a magikarp is strong enough to leap mountains

I always assumed that pokemon are so powerfull, that guns wount be worth it.
And thus there is an honour code between trainers of any kind.
And that is that you do not use the society and world destructive capabilities of your pokemon.
And because you just beat their team, they know that in the event that you (or your pokemon) would, they couldnt stop you.
So, for the good of all, you concede.

Being fair... I think having guns when things telekinetically pick up full 200 pound monsters are common place... Having something that a child can pick up, aim and kill somebody with is easy to pick up for them

Also magnets... They may have some guns designed to be used to what may be a co stand barrage of magnetic forces. But I don't think everyone would have access to that, and when some locations have such strong magnetic fields they can make pokemon evolve, along with... Magnet Pull being an actual ability that tells you some pokemon are ALWAYS putting out such a strong magnetic force they can't be converted to light to return to a pokeball? It just takes ONE disgruntled guy with a Magnezone getting within a hundred feet of residential Pokemon Texas to turn a city block into a warzone.

Simple answer: the owner of the gun would get instantly killed by the pokemon of the owner. Also, if a kid can lift a munchlax, I cannot imagine how durable they could be as adults.

Perhaps pokemon just doesn't take place in the USA

    • @beloveduser
      @beloveduser 6 місяців тому +2

fun fact: most pokemon games don't take place in the usa. black/white, black2/white2, sun/moon, and ultra sun/ultra moon, do take place in the pokemon equivalent of usa, there's a bunch of games that take place in pokemon japan, and some games that take place in pokemon france, pokemon britain, or pokemon spain.

    • @beloveduser

specifically black/white black2/white2 take place in pokemon new york, and sun/moon ultra sun/ultra moon take place in pokemon hawaii.

It was an okay joke at first, "why doesn't Team Rocket just pull out a gun", but it's sad that people act like it's an even remotely feasible argument. In real life, a dog can bite someone with a gun before they can shoot, now imagine if that dog could move at the speed of light, shoot lasers or had skin made of LITERAL steel.
The worst is they're acting like your trainer goes into these caves and hostage sitations without your ace out protecting you. The original games couldn't render all 151 pokemon following you, so even as a kid I assumed you had at least one out all the time. People just lack imagination.

Even if I grant that pokemon a far stronger than any sort of weapon, it still doesnt explain why criminals fight fair. In fact, these teams put themselves at an active disadvantage against the player. A lot of these teams are supposed to be super rich yet your telling me they can't even affort to fill out a single full team of pokemon? And most leaders of evil teams do own pokemon high enough level to at the very least fight through all the gyms, so why aren't they running around with quick balls and giving all their grunts lv 50 wild pokemon? I get that said wild pokemon won't listen to those grunts because they're inexperianced trainers, but they'll still use moves sometimes! And that would wreak jimmys lv 20 team of 6. Or alternatively, as master trainers (which most evil team leaders are) they should be able to fit their grunts out with TMs on every pokemon and held items with really toxic stratergies to defeat challengers like you, like rattata focus sash endeavour quick attack, or toxic stalling, or PP stalling. Just have one grunt who has 6 Incenroar. These grunts should be abusing the hell out of every obnoxious pokemon mechic. Perhaps an OHKO move specalist who stalls and heals between using OHKO moves on you. Half the grunts have Shedninja, but they'll swap out shedninja for a different pokemon if you can kill it well. Or they do some double battle stuff where they're able to give wonderguard to a mono fire type pokemon who knows burn up or something to make it unkillable.

This is a good explanation. Guns are pointless. Pokemon can be far more powerful than guns. So they are more effective as weapons. The video mentioned hyper beam. There are other examples. There is solar beam, thunder, hydro pump, fire blast, blizzard, earthquake, psychic etc. etc. Pokemon moves can be really powerful. The most extreme are Z moves and dynamax moves. Harry Potter has a more extreme case of this. This is a world where everybody is magical. Magic can be used for all sorts of things including combat. The whole world is very low tech. It is different from the technological world of the muggles. The movies show some really powerful magic. Dumbledore whips up a great big firestorm. Voldemort blasts a green bean of instant death. McGonagall even animates a whole army of knight armor to fight in battle. The Harry Potter world is gun free. The was fandom speculation on why this is and what it would be like with guns. I think the people with guns would be overpowered by the most powerful magicians. Pokemon and Harry Potter would have the same situation. Bringing a gun to a magic fight is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. They are very disadvantaged.
Hey! I got an idea! There is an alternative explanation. Think about the real world countries where the stories take place. Pokemon takes place in Japan. Harry Potter takes place in the UK. It is hard to tell where exactly due to the hidden nature of wizards. I am guessing the places are in England, Scotland or both. There is something that Japan and the UK have in common. Both countries are really into gun control. It all makes sense. That is why there are no guns. It is the government. They put tight control on guns in order to make society safer. It would be illegal for civilians to own a gun let alone carry a gun. Guns would be reserved to military and police. I am not sure if professional hunters are allowed have guns. In Japan, it is even illegal to carry a knife, except for an itty bitty one. I don't even know what such a weapon would be called. Would it be a micro- knife? I live in the United States. I suspect that these gun speculations are coming from Americans like me. This may be hard for use to grapple with. Guns are so normalized here. Civilians can own them as long as they get a license. Gun control is controversial. It is not a thing that is universally accepted and taken for granted. Even our constitution has the right to bear arms, and gun owners go to town with it. The confusion over guns may just be a result of a culture clash. The vast majority of nations in the world have strict gun control. Japan and the UK are just the tip of the iceberg. America is the exception to the rule. Being violent and obsessed with guns is an American stereotype. I find it embarrassing. In Harry Potter, the government has plenty of magicians in charge. That is the Minstery of Magic. They even have powerful magic cops, called aurers. Those guys will effortlessly stamp out anybody that tries to use a gun. The Pokemon world doesn't show a government at all. However it could probably use Pokemon to crush gun users the same way. At least Offer Jennies are cops that use Growlithes. I am personally in favor of gun control. America has a shootings problem, and it kills so many innocent people. It needs to stop. I even think the Constitution should be rewritten to have the right to defense. This is the same intent as before, but it is harder to abuse. I admire that other countries have more gun control. Good for them.

I thought of something. Harry Potter lacks guns because the UK has strict gun control. In Pokemon, this would explain why there are no guns in the Galar region. It is based on the same real world place as Harry Potter.
