Hot take: best part of Gen 7 was the music. The music from Ultra Sun is so iconic to me, since that was my first game. Especially the music on Melemele. There are times when I literally just turn on Ultra Sun to let the music play in the background.
Worst feature of gen 3 is that you can't transfer Pokemon up from gens 1-2 to it, keeping you from getting shinies/legendaries/starters you've had for years into newer games
If they were going to overhaul the Pokémon data structure, then they should have devised some sort of conversion system between the old one and the new one. They could have made some sort of adapter to accomplish this.
the story is worst too, its literally just two manchilds fighting over petty things, plus it got worser in Emerald as somehow two grown adults couldn't figure out that Red Orb would control Groudon (who is primarily red) and not Kyogre and vice versa
Gonna be honest, the loss of being able to enter buildings is only surpassed by the horrible raids in my opinion. In swsh I initially didn't like that they introduced raids, but at least they were turn based and they eventually grew on me. Scarvio's raids killed my enjoyment far more than anything else in gen 9 thus far, because they changed it from turn based to time based. Add onto that the enemy pokemon seems to get multiple turns before you do, the fact that occasionally glitches seem to make your inputs freeze for no reason, that offline NPCs will not attack until you do, and that later raids seem to require specific pokemon with certain stats and moves.
Don't forget, along with buildings not being enterable in Scarlet & Violet, most of the towns and cities have non interactable mannequins instead of people.
Ngl i didnt really like the open world part of scarlet and violet, bc it felt like everything blended together and there isnt a whole lot that feels unique, like for example hoenn which has very distinct routes like the lava tunnel, desert and rainy area
I think Scarlet & Violet should not have gotten rid of the ability to go into buildings. I feel like the Cities would have felt so much more massive and full if you could go into the shoe stores and clothing stores and see the different items on display with some generic npcs shopping about. And I miss original Pokémon centers, at least in cities. Like i enjoyed talking to the npcs and seeing what random things they had to say and then be surprised when one offered me an item or a trade. Like the mid route ones perfecr leave as the quick stop design. Edit: I posted this before we got to Scarlet & Violet and I am so glad that you agreed lol
There is a building you can enter in scarlet and violet that you missed. You can actually enter nemona's house. I only noticed this recently. Sadly not much to it but does give her some more context for her home life.
I can kind of understand SOME lack of level scaling but frankly having none at all holds it back from being truly open world. You're corralled in by the higher level Pokemon and trainers, so even if you go into an area despite that you can't do much while you're there. I guess if you throw Quick Balls or get lucky you can get an over-leveles Pokemon early and steamroll the game, but that's not really any better.
I agree with all of your points about Gen 7 with caveats. While I agree that the best part of Gen 7 is introducing Regional Variants as a new pillar of a mechanic for the series going forward, I’d also argue for its story, lore, and characters being up there. Sure, people that don’t enjoy story in their games will dislike the abundance of cutscenes, which is fair, but as someone that does, I thoroughly enjoyed how much personality it added to the games. Alola also has some of the most dense, fleshed out lore and characters out of any of the other generations in my opinion. It’s one of the only regions whose story was so good that it’s gotten a tear out of me (Gen 9 now too). Some of the only negatives with the games is the long tutorial process on subsequent play throughs and how incomplete some of the trials felt towards the end, especially on Poni Island. Then there’s one of the single most common criticisms of the game being the best parts from both games should’ve been merged into a singular game. Leave all of the story, the same from the originals, but at in tidbits of the ultra recon squad like in USUM, keep Lusamine’s character from the originals, redeem her in the post game after her illness/coma after bejng separated from Nihilego, keep Kukui as the first champion and save serious Hau for a post game rematch/story beat, Retain all of the post game content from USUM like ultra wormholes and team rainbow rocket as well as flesh out the Ultra Megalopolis area and storyline to make it more substantial. Gen 7 is genuinely my favorite generation and it’s far from perfect without these changes, but it does get close in my opinion. It’s a great melting of both tribal and sci-fi themes.
the game holds your hand so much, you walk 5 steps and someone comes and stops you, dont even get me started on the Festival Plaza tutorial, why does everything need to be so hand holdy?
also USUM is just trash, the game had full potential for a follow-up story after SM, like Lillie comes back from Kanto after 2 years and Lusamine is fully healed, the original players are the champions and Lillie made a friend in Kanto and we are that friend and then we play his/her's story but everything turned out to be the same with minimal changes
I really like that Gen 5 was only new Pokémon until the post game. My only real issue is that some of the new Pokémon are just rip-offs of Gen 1 Pokémon, like Timbur>Machop and Raggenrolla>Geodude.
@Morgil27 roggenrolla is perfectly fine though, most gens have one you've got Geodude, aron, roggenrolla, alolan Geodude, rolycoly and nacli. Would have rather had a new rock type in sinnoh instead of having Geodude again
Archetypes like the region's base early cute pet mon, early bird, the literally just rock, the pikachu clones, etc, has always existed. People just gets unreasonably mad when Gen 5 does it for whatever reason.
@shira_yone gen 5 did it too much that's why. Pokemon like sawk, throh, bouffalant, garbodor, klinklang and swoobat are all bad and unnecessary designs
@@taylorjames14 Garbodor is just a better more inspired Muk and Swoobat isn't too bad tbh, either way badly designed pokemon is hardly a gen 5 exclusive issue.
genuinely felt the same about us/um changing lusamine's story for the worst. its honestly done best in masters ex, because every event with lusamine and her kids show her trying to work to be better for them. the forgiveness feels earned edit: also agree on the not being able to go indoors in sv
Worst thing in Gen 3 is how many Pokemon have GARBAGE movesets, along with people hating MandJTV because Castform breasts??? HAIL NO FOR THAT! I LOVE CASTFORM!!!
@@VitorSilva-tl6moit would have made sense for a game that lets you control the sun…like all of a sudden you guys wanna act like Pokemon games are ultra realistic? Sandstorm has the same properties as hail, rain dance, sunny day. It boots defense for ground/rock types and damages non rock/ground/steel WOULD HAVE MADE SENSE
@@emomc9557 It doesn’t make sense that a castform (a special attacker) would get a physical form. That’s why they didn’t do it in gen 3. And that makes a lot of sense really. There is no way game freak would spend much more time on such a useless Pokémon
@@Boltofbrilliance122 I was referring to how there’s barely anything to do after the UB Missions as there’s no fun Minigames or anything. USUM has what SM’s post game doesn’t, like the Ultra Warp Ride, Episode RR, Mantine Surf, etc. and heck you can finally shiny hunt UB’s in USUM if shiny hunting is your thing.
I can appreciate what they were trying to do with the cutscenes. They were trying to step up their storytelling game even back then. They might not have had it quite right just yet, but they had the spirit.
Gen 9s worst feature has got to be the undercooked graphics. It's been out for a while now and it still looks terrible. The textures look bland and take far to long to load in, and there is still a riddle of bugs
I would say that Gen III's worst quality was the lack of Shiny hunting methods. The Gen II breeding system was discontinued, the Masuda method didn't exist yet, and there was no means of connectivity to Gen II thanks to the Pokémon data structure overhaul, so there were no ways to increase Shiny odds (save for an extremely fickle and pointless quirk with Unown and some sort of RNG exploit in Emerald).
@@ggrarlyeah I'm with you man. Personally, I see shiny is less important because it's just an additional thing with a little bit of a different color whereas the night and day adds different looks to the surrounding environment and also changes up the Pokemon in the wild and some features in the game like people at night like crooks or cops would come out
@@Mystmon yes, the day/night system started in gen 3, but batteries used to last for like 2/3 years so after that, the time would remain static and the time events would only correspond to the time to when it froze.
Totally agree with final Galar starters. A gorilla carrying around a drum when gorillas literally beat their chests like drums… it’d be like if Pidgeot use a hang-glider
Actually I liked how you obtained Jirachi through Pokémon Channel on GameCube. The way you unlock her so that she flies into your room and with a magical twirl says “Let’s play!” in an adorable girly voice.
Definately agree with a lot of this, though for me my picks would be; (Bare in mind I haven't made Gen 8 or 9 so can't comment on them, and skipped Sun & Moon, so can't talk about the differences between them and the Ultra games) Gen 1 - The best bit for me would be the non-linear design of Kanto. For me, the thrill I always chase with Pokémon Games is the feeling of, having failed to figure out the puzzles in Silph and Seafoam, taking a random trip back to Pallet Town and surfing south, only to find a whole new town that allowed me to completely bypass Seafoam. Never quite found that same feeling again! Gen 2 - Whilst I would say, objectively, returning to Kanto is the best, I also got a thrill from seeing the updated designs of the Gen 1 'Mons, after the basic and sometimes hideous sprites from Red and Blue. For that reason, the lack of Gen 2 Pokémon in Johto never really bothered me, the worst bit for me would be that, despite how great having Kanto in the game was, it felt like both Kanto and Johto suffered as a result of trying to cram both regions onto a Game Boy Cartridge Gen 3 - The music was easily the best. So catchy. Worst was the almost complete lack of post-game content in Ruby and Sapphire. There was literally just an uninteresting battle tower. A big step down from Gold and Silver that was thankfully fixed in Emerald with the excellent Battle Frontier. Gen 4 - The main drawback for me was that it wasn't Gen 3! Moreso than ever, it seemed to be trying to ape it's predecessor, "Enjoyed Pokémon that control the weather? Here are Pokémon that control Time and Space!!!". It never really felt to me that Diamond and Pearl stood out for that reason. Gen 5 - Unova, as a region, has never really done anything for me. Feels like a lot of style over substance. Gen 6 - The Story was the worst bit. It didn't make much sense and didn't really make the most of Mega-Evolutions. The best bit was Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire 😄 Gen 7 - Loved the Island Trials as an alternative to Gyms.
I was bracing myself to hear you rant about the bugs/performance of SV… but then you started mentioning the lack of being able to enter certain buildings. And honestly, it really makes me think. Despite what the internet wants you to think, bugs/performance should not be used to judge a game’s quality-the way a game was intended to be. Bugs aren’t the fault of the developers. Sure, they can be an issue and it’s important to stamp them out. But ultimately, judging games purely based on stuff the devs didn’t intend, and then tossing aside all the greatness, is a terrible way to judge. And unfortunately, so many people have treated SV like this, and it pains me. But you talking about a quality of life feature of all things (which is still valid btw, I do also enjoy barging into stranger’s houses in these games, lmao) made me realize… these games are next to perfect. There are only a few little things that some might prefer be added or changed, like the houses thing, but ultimately the big scope of SV is so good… to the point where no one’s really complaining about any of it. And that makes me feel a little better.
I seriously question how people get some of the bugs i've seen. I mean, i've been playing since like a week after launch. Have i gotten stuck in the terrain a few times? Yeah, when i land wrong off a jump at an odd corner or on a raid crystal. But it's never been permanent. I get warped after a few seconds. Never had stretched models or a random face wandering through the battle with Clavell at the climax of starfall street. And I'm playing on system i got in 2020, and it's a Light. Could SV have used a few more months in the oven to iron out the little slow down i saw at Casseroa Lake or the Bamboo forest? Yeah, but even the infamous Lagtree Thicket was never that bad for me. The few bugs i've had in no way shape or form take away from the amazing game we got with SV. The story is best we gotten in a traditional Mainline Pokémon game, all three paths were amazing. Yeah, we've done the gym progression for almost 30 years now, but the leaders have so much personality (besides Larry, seriously, work with a Larry and he will never be your favorite gym leader again.)
I don't necessarily agree on Scarlet/Violet's plot. Ignoring the DLC, I found the only interesting part was the Area Zero stuff. And while Area Zero was phenomenally good, all the stuff before it, during the main bulk of the game, I just did not care for. Gameplay-wise it was fine, with the open world and all, but plot-wise I just could not get invested.
Yeah, I hard disagree with him on Cinderace. Rillaboom is almost certainly a reference to Russell Hobbes (iykyk). I partially agree on Inteleon but I still chose it as my starter.
100% agree about the 2 regions being the best part about Gold & Silver. It blew my mind when I was a kid, and when I realized you could even go after 8 additional gum badges, it instantly made it my favorite Pokemon game for years! From that point on, I started becoming slowly disenchanted with Pokemon as I got older. I still bought all the games, but they never 'wowed' me again.
They really missed out on the chance to bring back the 2 region system from gen 2 in scarlet and violet. The DLC should've been a trip to what would realistically be neighboring Kalos.
In my opinion: Gen 1: Best: It introduced the franchise and I like the nostalgic feel it gives off Worst: A lot of Pokemon had bad movesets imo, and it could be too difficult at times Gen 2: Best: I really enjoyed Pokemon Crystal. Also the introduction of shiny Pokemon Worst: To me it has the worst roster of new Pokemon. There are some great ones like the legendaries, Steelix, Scizor and the new Eeveelutions, but there were a lot of weak ones (to me it’s very telling that they would give a lot of them new evolutions or forms in future gens) Gen 3: Best: I really like Hoenn as a region with its different environments and most of the Pokemon are great. Also Emerald Worst: I’m glad I never got to experience filling the Dex in the games cuz I’ve heard it’s a long process that requires to have multiple games Gen 4 (My first Gen!): Best: I really enjoyed playing Platinum and Heartgold and Soulsilver. Also, I like pretty much all of the new evolutions for old mons that were introduced Worst: Sinnoh might be my least favorite region because outside of Mt Coronet and Spear Pillar it doesn’t have a lot of memorable locations that stand out to me. Also, DP were not very good games looking back on them (but I’m glad they’re the games that got me into the franchise) Gen 5: Best: BW have one of the best stories in the series. I also like Unova as a region. And while I don’t love their story, BW2 were fun to play Worst: I think they gave too many of the new Pokemon unfair evolution levels. Some examples I can think of are Larvesta, Rufflet, Vullaby, and especially Zweilous. Gen 6 (Probably my favorite Gen): Best: It gave us a lot of fun features like Megas, Fairy types, Amie and trainer customization. I also think it has the best roster of Pokemon (there aren’t any I really dislike and even a lot of their shinies are great). I also really enjoyed playing ORAS Worst: I think the story and characters in the games are boring and forgettable (I really hope Legends ZA can do these things justice) Gen 7: Best: I really like Alola as a region, along with the story, lore, characters and a lot of the new Pokemon. I also enjoyed USUM despite its story not being as great Worst: I think SM hold your hand too much in the story, especially at the beginning. Also, USUM’s story is a downgrade compared to SM’s Gen 8: Best: I like the story about the Gym Challenge. I like that it makes you feel like a rising athlete. I also enjoyed using Pokemon Camp a lot. And I really enjoyed Legends Arceus! It made the Sinnoh region and its lore more interesting to me Worst: I didn’t care that much about the Darkest Day plot in SWSH and Rose might be one of my least favorite villains in the series. I also think Legends Arceus could’ve used more trainer battles Gen 9: Best: I like the main story and how you can decide which steps to take as you go. I also really like Penny and Arven as characters. This is also another Gen in which I don’t dislike any of the new Pokemon Worst: I was kinda disappointed that the story in the DLC went back to being linear to an extent. Also Ogerpon’s story was way more interesting and better built up than Terapagos’s. And of course, the glitches
Great video! I don’t agree with everything but there are some solid arguments here. Just some constructive criticism, the entire video is obviously your opinion - so you don’t have to say it so much. After the fifth or sixth time you said it, it started becoming distracting because I was subconsciously counting them. (I won’t post the final number here because this comment in good faith.) Much love! I’ll be waiting for the next video! Edit: For clarity, I’m referencing each time you said “In my opinion” at the start or end of a sentence.
Personally I don’t mind the lack of buildings you could enter in SV. I kind of like that shops are very quick and easy to interact with. I get it gets rid of a lot of personality but I like that I don’t have to enter/exit every building and instead I can just run up to a door press A, but what I want, then move two feet to the right to quickly enter a different shop without having to run out again and enter a new store and yadda yadda yadda.
The B&W pokedex is underrated. It only gets hate cause "I can't use older Pokemon before the post game 😭😭". That's pretty much everyone who doesn't like B&W main argument.
Unova had the worst starters. Cinderace and Rillaboom are cool. Inteleon is okay. Paldean has the best storylines in the franchise. I love how the DLC introduces new characters and plot. Also, they conclude EVERY storyline (main storylines and DLC) with the Epilogue that introduces Pecharunt, who you saw every time you went to Peachy's in Kitakami (Pecharunt is dormant until you have the Mythical Pecha Berry).
oooooooh here's my own, written after only seeing your gen 1 choices. I'll finish the video after writing this. Though I'll do by region rather than generation Kanto Best: It's the best first region for a newbie fr. Like it kind of encapsulates well what pokemon as a series /is/ without ever being /too much/, whether that be in the 90s with gen 1 or later on with gen 3 or even Let's Go or Infinite Fusion (the best pokemon game) Worst: I agree that it's just kind of a dull region. While it does the things that it should as your first region, it's really only memorable /because/ it was most people's first region. But at the same time that makes replays less arduous than some of the more varied regions, which I'll talk about later. Johto Best: I've always kind of liked the writing in the Johto games for whatever reason? The characters in Johto feel much more like actual characters than they did in Kanto, and you could even say moreso than some later regions too. Worst: Honestly take your pick. There's a lot of wildly bad choices that gamefreak made with Johto, but probably the worst is the gym battles. Not only do so many gym leaders (Falkner, Bugsy, Chuck just to name three) only use KANTO pokemon rather than ones from Johto, but the levelling makes no sense. Pryce having pokemon weaker than Jasmine is wack as hell, and did Jasmine really need two Magnemite? Maybe one to show off that it had a new type, sure, but why not throw in a Skarmory, a pokemon that is so absent from its own games that a ton of people think it comes from Hoenn? Hoenn Best: My favorite region, full-stop. I could pick a bunch of things to be the best thing about Hoenn but I think I'll go with the starters. This is the best starter trio in the series, no contest. Not a single bad choice among them, even the unfortunately monotyped Sceptile is still really well designed and cool. Thank odin it got a second type with its mega later on. Worst: Idk, the classic meme is too much water but it never really bothered me much? I guess I'd say that the acquisition of the Regis is SO baroque and wild that it's a bad thing? I'd be surprised if anybody figured it out without just looking it up online. Sinnoh Best: Love love love the amount of new evolutions given to old Pokemon in this. Misdreavus needed Mismagius so bad, as did a ton of other pokemon. Togekiss makes the classic baby line actually good and worth raising. Additional shoutout to gen 4 introducing physical/special split but that's generation rather than region Worst: I don't particularly like the vibes of these games and Sinnoh itself all that much? I rarely want to revisit DPPt or BDSP, idk if it's that I don't like Barry, or the aesthetic, or the evil team, or whatever, but it all kind of culminates in me not really loving Sinnoh that much. That doesn't expand to Hisui though, speaking of which: Hisui Best: A wildly good shakeup to the formula, which is great in its own ways even if I don't want it to become the default style for Pokemon games. It's a great way to experience this universe for sure Worst: As there's only one Hisui game I can say this without needing to specify generation: THE BATTLES ARE TERRIBLE. Catching outside of combat is fantastic, but the actual turn based battles have been overhauled in a purely negative way. I KO a pokemon, the opponent sends in a new one and gets to attack before I even have a chance to switch? No abilities, no held items? This is just all-out BAD design. And I guess that's not Hisui's fault, it's PLA's fault, but it's very VERY easily the worst part of hanging out in Hisui Unova Best: What these games did for the Bug type will be something I am forever thankful for. It single-handedly took the worst type of the series and rejuvinated it with a bunch of fantastic bug type pokemon & moves, so much so that it became my favorite type. Worst: I debated between saying the region itself (much like Sinnoh, I rarely revisit Unova because I just don't like existing and exploring within that world) as well as its extremely overhyped evil team and story. I think I'll go with the former, just because the sequels don't share the same negative as the latter as the first games did, but do share the same negative region design. I still really don't think Team Plasma was handled all that well, especially at the end of the game. It could have been an interesting philosophical debate but it turned out to be just a front for another take-over-the-world scheme? fuck off ghetsis Kalos Best: At a time where I feared I'd lost my love for the series after having a (then) negative reaction to gen 5, Kalos came around and really brought me back into it by being explorable in 3D. But I think I have to say that Kalos giving us fairy type is probably the best thing about it. People love megas, and I like them too, but overall they aren't my favorite gimmick either. Fairy though was absolutely needed. Absolutely did NOT need it to resist bug type but whatever Worst: Much like Kanto, it's just a little drab. There's some sections of interesting lore and setpieces for sure (which I fear we won't see realized in ZA since it's all in Lumiose) but for the most part the region itself isn't bad, just a little boring. Alola Best: Team Skull is GOAT. I love ya boy Guzma, I love the team skull grunts, I love their songs, their vibes, I love Po Town, pretty much everything about Team Skull really does it for me. Worst: These games take ten thousand years to get through. Not because the region necessitates it, but because you're stopped every three seconds for a ten hour cutscene. Bring me back to Alola with a Legends game and let me do stuff without being stopped, PLEASE. Galar Best: Honestly, a bunch of stuff. I really find SwSh underrated as hell. But if I had to single out one thing, it'd probably be the soundtrack. Gens 5 and 8 have the best OSTs in the series bar none, and I think 8 is my favorite. That Illusory Zacian/Zamazenta theme? Who the fuck thought of combining wolf howls with slap bass, and WHY does it work SO WELL? I always jam to the gym leader music, the town music, pretty much all the music except for the wild area's bagpipes theme lol Worst: I mean, DEXIT sucks but it was inevitable too, it was just a matter of when would it happen. So maybe not counting that, my least favorite part of Galar is Chairman Rose's nonsense plan? Like it'd at least make sense if the crisis was even just 100 years away rather than 1000. Then it'd be like "okay, dude's crazy, but at least I GET it." And then Regieleki specifically has a dex entry that invalidates Rose's concern entirely? It's like they specifically wanted a shitty villain which is a shame Paldea Best: Probably the best stories of any pokemon game? Team Star's story is really sweet and fun, Arven's both in the path of legends and the way home is sad but heartwarming, and having yandere Nemona constantly around in the victory road story was always fun too. Similarly, the DLC stories were pretty fantastic too, even if I do still wish that Kieran had been influenced by Pecharunt to explain his dark turn. I also really like Tera, it's my favorite of the gimmicks ez Worst: Not gonna count the glitchiness, though that is literally the worst part of these games, as a near universal opinion. But that's an easy answer, for a less easy answer I'll say probably how fucking annoying it is to surf with Veluza around. I just don't want to go to the lake at all, not just because the framerate drops but because I have to be constantly wary of this ridiculously fast fish despite his very slow speed stat. just straight up annoying
Gen 9 has the best characters. Nemona is such a unique character with such a cool idea, being a champion who's too strong to enjoy battles, her favorite thing ever until you come along
I'll never understand love for Diamond and Pearl beyond the physical/special split. There are SO many more things I hated about Pearl than the speed. 1. The dex has major issues, even beyond the lack of fire types, to the point that it literally became a joke that you could guess at least 4 out of 6 mons on any sinnoh team. 2. HM overload like craaaazy, you could have TWO pokemon on your team with absolutely NOTHING but HMs. Needing to have ONE with all HM moves is bad enough! (and remember, at this point they had THREE generations of negative feedback from players about HMs, and they STILL chose to add MORE) 3. The route gimmicks, rather than being immersive, were just annoying slowdowns in an already slow game. 4. Barry is one of the worst rivals ever, his 'gotta go fast' personality has less depth than Sonic the Hedgehog, he's like one big adhd joke that wasn't even funny to begin with. 5. The lake trio is one of the worst, most forgettable, legendary trios of any gen ever. You could probably mix up their names and most pokemon fans wouldn't even notice it was wrong. And then even if they did notice it was wrong, they probably still wouldn't remember the right names for each one. IMO they are worse in design than the simi trio. Simisear at least has personality to its design, even if that personality is 'hot diarrhea'. The lake trio has no personality *at all*, nothing that makes them stand out as anything more than copy/paste blobs. 6. MINDY. 7. I don't even agree that it handled mythical events well because I hate mythicals being tied to events. Speaking from personal experience at the time, getting Pearl and finding out it had *multiple* cool and powerful pokemon that I could *never* get because of events that had already happened that I could literally *never have accessed in the first place* was the EXACT OPPOSITE of fun. Trade evos are only okay because if you have no one to trade with you weren't *locked out* of buying the other version. The fact the mythicals were all SO much better than the lake trio just made me hate the lake trio even more.
@@theamazingspooderman2697 unsurprisingly, its also the gen with, by far, the highest number of merchandise-mons! Oops I mean baby evos. I also think the lore in that gen is ridiculously dumb and was a baaaad idea. I was spot on about how actual battle mechanics would immediately ruin any sort of mystique or awe that the lore around Arceus tried to build. Really hard not to laugh at the 'avatar of GOD' getting drain punched into unconsciousness by a hitmontop with bulk up.
Gen 4 starters being the last complete group is a crime. Gen 6 with Delphox, Chesnaught, and Greninja is a crazy lineup. Also, Gen 7's group is really strong as well. Incineroar (My least favorite from this gen), Decidueye, and Primarina.
Yeah i remember being in HS and my friends and I going to Volk our friend who was visually impaired and knew how to read braille and asking him to help us obtain the Regis!
And people still don't know about gen 1. The missingo glitch, actually helped by giving you multiple items. You had to have the item you would want, in a certain spot in your bag, talk to the old man. Have him not show how to catch Pokemon, fly to cinnabar, surf on the side, once missingo showed, you defeat it, and you should have 99 of whatever item. Doing that trick with master balls, would give you access to catching any pokemon.
The MissingNo glitch is the most widely known and infamous glitch in Gen 1. And you have 255 of the item, not 99. In fact, just encountering it and then running away will give you 127 of the item.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio I specifically remember it being less than that. I did that trick several times, and remember it being less than all that. Cuz it said infinite. But 99 was about the max number of items in gen one.
Worst feature for gen three is hands down when the internal clock battery dies. As a kid you felt helpless and as an adult its a massive annoyance if you don't have the tools and don't trust the nearby game stores
I really wish gen 9's battles had level scaling. Sure, you could technically challenge them in any order, but really, at best you were switching around one or two badges. It would have made the chaotic order of badges make more sense, at least.
best parts from gens i've tried gen1: from pve persepctive, crit rate based on speed is fun, hyper beam mechanics too gen 2: kanto section gen 3: abilities gen 4: physical special split (and following pokemon in hgss) gen5: reusable tms, much more new defining moves added and distributed gen6: UI and graphics in 3D gen7: much better opponent AI
I feel like one of Gen 8s faults is that they didn’t have national Pokédex and then I believe tried to balance by making Pokémon that would otherwise have some challenge towards getting, so accessible. Like all the eeveelutions could just be caught in the wild. Last stage evolutions that are usually trade/stone/held item. ALSO the dlc had great opportunity for 2 new eeveelutions given the settings and traditional setting of how eeveelutions are introduced. Crown tundra could have been a dragon type and isle of armor could have been steel type like big ball dropped there.
Another worst from Gen 9 is the lack of small side quests. Because you can’t go into peoples houses, there was A LOT less interactions with the npcs, making you feel a little disconnected from the region
I guess I'll put mine for each gen? gen 1 best: I honestly can't think of one. gen 1 worst: They really needed to weaken psychic more, it had way too many advantages. gen 2 best: Not so much going to Kanto but more fighting Red. gen 2 worst: The leveling was way too grindy. gen 3 best: Yeah the legendaries, I also liked in Emerald at least that there were two evil teams to fight. gen 3 worst: Way too much water, if you're going to put in that much water at least make it so that there are way more Pokemon I'm running into when surfing instead of just Tentacool and Wingull. gen 4 best: The Mythical events. gen 4 worst: All the new TRADE evolutions. gen 5 best: There are two, the story by far is one of the best if not the best in my opinion, and the second one is that you had to use the new Pokemon until the post game...hell most people now only play with the new Pokemon on their first playthrough anyway. gen 5 worst: There are way too many legendaries...and some were poorly built upon like Genesect. gen 6 best: the clothing options, I changed up my clothes in those games more than any other Pokemon title. gen 6 worst: Story, Mega Evolution, really small Pokedex that really wasn't that filled with quality. gen 7 best: Regional variants. gen 7 worst: evolving legendaries. gen 8 best: Legends Arceus, but if we're talking Sword and Shield the raids was a good addition. gen 8 worst: Chairman Rose's plan was stupid as hell. gen 9 best: Story, open world, and I feel like Terestalization is the best battle gimmick gen 9 worst: Some towns felt way too small, and were made even smaller due to the fact you couldn't enter the buildings.
16:50 Necrozma is one of my favourite pokemon but imo he is wasted potential. I hope sun and moon will receive thier own legends games (it can be very original game btw)
As a LOVER of gen 1, I think a big issue is the ability to describe things more overtly. We really had to guess lots of things in the 1st gen especially without a guide. It was difficult thing. Now with the internet everything is much easier however I do think this is still a big issue with pokemon as a whole. I wish there was more in game explanations or hints for things. Like how could anyone ever guess to read brail for the reggies or go under a specific bridge to evolve a mon. These things fully require hints at least to solve.
Gen6 had so much potential in terms of story and characters, but they screwed it so hard by never really developing on it in a Z version. The region was very beautiful tho, and I love it for introducing character customization. (I think it has some of the best set of clothes, even tho it's kind of limited compared to what we have on the Switch.)
Always wild to me that people complain about gen 5. That Gen actually got me back into pokemon after I stepped out for gen 4. Love the plot and pokemon. It felt the most like gen 1 to me in the pokedex being only for its pokemon.
Personally, I think the worst part about gen3 is that they were still tying types to being all physical or all special. Now granted, you could blame gens 1 and 2 for this as well, but the problem especially seems to have been exacerbated with gen3. For one thing, the Game Boy Advance is a signicantly more powerful system than its prior 8-bit counterpart, so there shouldn't have been any technical limitations any more (on top of that, judging from how transfers from gen2 were impossible at the time, they essentially remade the Pokedex from scratch, meaning it would've been the perfect opportunity to ditch the old physical/special system). Also, several Pokemon in this generation, especially, were given stats that go against their designs but work with their types, or vice versa, or they got mixed attacking stats which did them no favors in future generations (not helped by the fact that Pokemon base stats were always untouched until gen6, and even then, it's frequently just an adjustment of about 10 points or so). Overall, you get a feeling that the physical/special split really should've been implemented a generation earlier, but for whatever reason, it wasn't. Though on the subject of gen3, one aspect I really don't see enough people talk about are the menu sprites. Seriously, coming off of the first two generations, which used generic-looking creature sprites to vaguely represent a whole group of certain Pokemon, it was absolutely mind-blowing to see every single Pokemon was now distinctly visible in the menu. Was an absolute godsend for PC-sorting as well (made all the better by not forcing a game save every single time you switched boxes). Many of us might take this stuff for granted nowadays, but at the time, it can't be overstated how much of a massive leap in quality of life features this truly was. And lastly, I honestly don't mind having mono-type starters. In fact, I thought that was an interesting trait that made the gen2 starter group stand out among their peers. And sure, by gen8, it was hardly doing anything new. However, I'm all for having more pure Fire-type starters, at least. Especially since, prior to Scorbunny, Typhlosion was literally the only one (meanwhile, Grass and Water had quite a few single-type starters..... in fact, it was pretty aggravating to see gen5 introduce another single-type for both of them, all the while Fire's getting its third Fighting sub-type in a row, just widening that gap even further). I do, however, agree that the starters are too humanistic...... in fact, that's been a problem with almost every starter from gen6 onwards. Your starter feels less like you're raising some sort of Pocket MONSTER, and more like you're raising a furry with an RPG job class. Doesn't completely ruin them for me, but I certainly miss the earlier style for them.
19:08 “and I took that personally.” In all seriousness I’m a galar baby, it was the first game I actually played and inteleon was my first EVER Pokémon, and I have a soft spot for the galar Pokémon I personally got attached to, which where, Inteleon line Theivul line Eternatus Zacian Zamazenta Spectrier Hatterene line Grapploct line And morpeko
Trevor and Tierno are the first companions who have a goal besides beating the league. They're the best rivals. And going inside every house is weird. it's like in gen 5 when they took items out of garbages because the didn't want kids digging through trashcans.
Best thing about gen 1: the original 150 Pokémon Worst thing about gen 1: glitches, and difficulty from said glitches. Not that I would know since I never played gen 1. Best thing about gen 2: two regions for the price of one game. Worst thing about gen 2: massive difficulty spike, especially in hgss with red Best thing about gen 3: the new Pokémon easy Worst thing about gen 3: either the contests, or the ridiculous requirements to get certain Pokémon. Looking at you Milotic Best thing about gen 4: the starters, team galactic, and Cynthia Worst thing about gen 4: limits on what Pokémon you can use before post game. Also difficulty spike when facing Cynthia. Best thing about gen 5: story, and new Pokémon Worst thing about gen 5: Ghetsis and his illegal Hydregion Best thing about gen 6: character customization, and Heliolisk Worst thing about gen 6: the friendship squad Best thing about gen 7: regional variants, and team rainbow rocket in usum Worst thing about gen 7: the botched up story in the sister games, even though quality of life improvements are better in there. Best thing about gen 8: the character designs, and legends Arceus Worst thing about gen 8: starter final evolutions, and legends Arceus mechanics And finally, best thing about gen 9: story, characters, and new Pokémon Worst thing about gen 9: rushed glitches
I couldn't disagree more with his best & worst of gen 8 because I love the gen 8 starter designs as an evolution line and with gen 2 are the only gens with all 3 starter evolution lines in S or A tier for me. whereas gen 9 starter designs as an evolution line are D,E and F tier for me. I love gen 9's first forms but I hate what they turn in to.
Gen 5 Best: Soundtracks, location aesthetics, and being able to battle characters from previous games Worst: The missed opportunity to battle Hilda/Hilbert Gen 6 Best: History and Lore Worst: Lack of content Gen 7 Best: Z-Moves Worst: Useless Evil Team Gen 8 Best: SwSh's God-tier graphics and the greatest ever Champion Worst: It's lack-luster story Gen 9 Best: DLC story Worst: The incomplete graphics
I dont think Cinderace is that basic or uncreative at all. But i do keep hoping for better starters again. Rowlet and Fuecoco lines are the only two ive really truly liked since gen 6.
0:22 Everyone knows it doesn’t matter if a UA-camr disclaims that everything is their own opinion. It is your video, so your word and opinion is absolute.
Hoops: The ultra games didn't introduce enough new content Also Hoops: I don't like the new content the ultra games introduced This is like saying Origin Palkia should have its arms back and its hind legs cut off
Tbh, the lack of explorable buildings in S/V is justifiable due to how massive and poorly optimized the game was (and still is). Having more area data to load and render in a tankish game like this would've ran it into the ground if it wasn't already, as well a put a strain on the system, leading to more battery usage, slower game response/loading times and even bugs or crashes. It may be a staple in the other games, but for S/V, it's entirely fair to not allow it. You already have 5 massive maps (school interiors and actual maps + dlc areas) with chunk-based world loading, so adding tons of smaller maps would be too much.
The worst thing about gen 3 - literally the entire game. Except for contests and that there were two evil teams but one of them was in your side. Those were the only positive memories I have of playing Ruby back in the days. Else the game was unenjoyable enough that it made me quit Pokemon for years. The only other Pokemon game that came close with how unenjoyable it was, was Legends Arceus.
Probably very unpopular, but gen 8 sucks overall. Arceus is highly praised, but it felt super boring to me and never felt the need to finish it... hence why I'm likely skipping Z-A 😅
Worst part of gen 3 is definitely the stupid battery drying out thing. Idk if the other gens had this but with gen 3 at least it made it practically impossible to shiny hunt
im glad you didn't make glitches gen 1s worst thing as MOST people would play that game and be hard pressed to find distinct glitches without a knowledge on how to hack a game. SV on the other had, I played a vanilla version and it broke my game 3 times with normal use. that's terrible.
Diamond was my first pokemon game ever. I got almost to the end all my Pokemon were level 80+ and my mom allowed my sister to played and she deleted my entire playthrough
My only thought is Gen 1's Worst Opinion is the default, too many battles, unfair moves and No story content. Another worst thing in my opinion is N's Room in Gen 5's sequels and postgame due to his tragic Backstory and his terrifying messed up room in his castle and every Generations' Horror and Creepiest Places due to how dark it is, listening to Unown Radio themes and Gen 9's tragic backstory of Arven's Parent(s), it's hurtful and I either got frightened or braved the horrors. My best opinions in every Generation are the evil teams like Team Rocket and the Bandit Sisters in Legends Arceus. They each have their own goals to destroy everything or do other evil or nevil stuff without cooperation except for Team Rainbow Rocket. It's my interest to disband, destroy and disrupt every Generation's Evil Teams' Goals. Another best thing in my opinion from Gen 2 to Gen 9 are the Affection gimmicks, battle encounters and types and In-game gimmicks.
Does the 6th generation have any advantages?... I would count on the fact that it has the least number of Pokemon, it's a poor copy of Kanto, mega evolutions are broken mechanics, the characters are laughable in the room, the region design makes no sense, Lumilose is a gigantic mistake with a broken camera. ... The 8th generation also has a lot of advantages, the new Pokemon are great, the leader gym is inventive, rivals that make sense compared to the mistake with XY... G-maxes are perfectly balanced, a lot of great things for online fights
Imo the worst part of the gen 5 games, or at least Black and White, it literally locking a NON LEGENDARY, regular pokemon line that you NEED FOR THE REGIONAL DEX, behind MULTIPLE limited time events in a previous game. Not even events IN Black and White, but the games before it. It's one thing to lock mythicals behind limited time events (shitty but understandable) since they're not required for filling out the main dex, but not a REGULAR POKEMON THAT'S PART OF THE DEX. If I have both copies of a game I should be able to get all the pokemon in the dex. I literally cannot do that with Black and White b/c Zorua and Zoroark are ONLY able to be obtained if you did a limited time event(s) in a PREVIOUS GAME (the Celebi event and the shiny Beasts events). Which means if you pick up a copy of them now, or restart your copy, you literally cannot fill out the dex through normal game play b/c you just, can't get it??? B2/W2 fixed that by giving you a Zorua. But like. Only one. I legit thought they were legendaries for the longest time because of this.
I think the post game is the worst part of Kanto, and lack of ability to save Pokémon like in Home. Having lived through that era, I hated it then and still do to this day, basically deleting your game and starting over was the only post game. 😅
Speaking of slow speed in Diamond & Pearl, I feel like Scarlet & Violet's battles are the slowest they've ever been since that gen. GF needs to take a page from Atlus & Persona/SMT when it comes to battle flow & UI. Everything is so slow & boring to look at, with every single status condition, stat change, weather effect, terrain, or even "your Pokemon is feeling ___" emotion slowly being displayed 1 at a time for EACH POKEMON!
So spot on the Sinnoh Starters and Legends Arceus. LA is truly a phenomenal game and the Sinnoh Starters were a perfect trio of Starters both in design, typing and balance. Also so right about the story of SV, that story was truly amazing and have indeed set the standard for Pokemon stories, and it goes along with the stories of Gen 4, Gen 5 and LA as the best Pokemon stories ever.
Legends Arceus is just empty catching simulator, the story is also the most cookie cutter story possible with no one questioning anything and just allowing a random stranger inside the village

Hot take: best part of Gen 7 was the music. The music from Ultra Sun is so iconic to me, since that was my first game. Especially the music on Melemele. There are times when I literally just turn on Ultra Sun to let the music play in the background.

Oo you’re right stuck to only Hoenn Pokémon until cheating in Emerald

The worst part of gen 4 is Mindy there's nothing worse than her
Who's Mindy? I don't remember that name.
The evil girl who trades you a Haunter with an everstone on it.
AKA the Snowpoint Scammer. And even worse, she returned in BD/SP to do the exact same thing.
If anything it hints at legends za with the greyninja painting
we cant even do anything there
you can also enter some Cafe's
bro chose not breaking in houses over the performace of sv and the absence of level scaling in an open world pokemon game
I can kind of understand SOME lack of level scaling but frankly having none at all holds it back from being truly open world. You're corralled in by the higher level Pokemon and trainers, so even if you go into an area despite that you can't do much while you're there.
I guess if you throw Quick Balls or get lucky you can get an over-leveles Pokemon early and steamroll the game, but that's not really any better.
or the fact that you cant even go into houses despite being open world
The performance wasn't that bad, I would say. But I do agree on the absence of level scaling.
Agree with all of this. Gen 7 is my favorite one by far
the game holds your hand so much, you walk 5 steps and someone comes and stops you, dont even get me started on the Festival Plaza tutorial, why does everything need to be so hand holdy?
also USUM is just trash, the game had full potential for a follow-up story after SM, like Lillie comes back from Kanto after 2 years and Lusamine is fully healed, the original players are the champions and Lillie made a friend in Kanto and we are that friend and then we play his/her's story but everything turned out to be the same with minimal changes
@@taylorjames14 Garbodor is just a better more inspired Muk and Swoobat isn't too bad tbh, either way badly designed pokemon is hardly a gen 5 exclusive issue.
genuinely felt the same about us/um changing lusamine's story for the worst. its honestly done best in masters ex, because every event with lusamine and her kids show her trying to work to be better for them. the forgiveness feels earned
edit: also agree on the not being able to go indoors in sv
The worst part of gen 7 is the fact that the cutscenes took forever

The only problems I have with Gen 7 are the amount of cutscenes.

@@Boltofbrilliance122 I was referring to how there’s barely anything to do after the UB Missions as there’s no fun Minigames or anything.

I can appreciate what they were trying to do with the cutscenes. They were trying to step up their storytelling game even back then. They might not have had it quite right just yet, but they had the spirit.
There were some cool things to do after you beat the league in Sun and Moon. I'd say its about average in terms of Pokemon post games overall
Gen 9s worst feature has got to be the undercooked graphics. It's been out for a while now and it still looks terrible. The textures look bland and take far to long to load in, and there is still a riddle of bugs
It's kind of downer that you really can't use half of the Unova Dex until the end game or even the post game.
Great video! And omg I made it on the patron end screen!
Gen 3 worst feature - no day/night system
@@ggrarlyeah I'm with you man. @@ggrarlThat was due to the internal batteries in the cartridges running dry.

Definately agree with a lot of this, though for me my picks would be; (Bare in mind I haven't made Gen 8 or 9 so can't comment on them, and skipped Sun & Moon, so can't talk about the differences between them and the Ultra games)
Gen 1 - The best bit for me would be the non-linear design of Kanto.
For that reason, the lack of Gen 2 Pokémon in Johto never really bothered me, the worst bit for me would be that, despite how great having Kanto in the game was, it felt like both Kanto and Johto suffered as a result of trying to cram both regions onto a Game Boy Cartridge
Gen 3 - The music was easily the best.
The best bit was Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire 😄
Gen 7 - Loved the Island Trials as an alternative to Gyms.
I think the designs of the final evolutions of the Galar starters are awesome. Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon are really cool.
I still bought all the games, but they never 'wowed' me again.
dont let bro cook for gen8
The gym challenges were the worst thing in Gen 9. Especially the ESP training from the psychic gym
Some of them weren't bad but not great
They really missed out on the chance to bring back the 2 region system from gen 2 in scarlet and violet. The DLC should've been a trip to what would realistically be neighboring Kalos.
The fact that Pokemon didn’t continue allowing you to go back a region in the post game was a huge mistake in my opinion.
In my opinion:
Gen 1:
Best: It introduced the franchise and I like the nostalgic feel it gives off
Worst: A lot of Pokemon had bad movesets imo, and it could be too difficult at times
Gen 2:
Best: I really enjoyed Pokemon Crystal. Also the introduction of shiny Pokemon
Worst: To me it has the worst roster of new Pokemon. There are some great ones like the legendaries, Steelix, Scizor and the new Eeveelutions, but there were a lot of weak ones (to me it’s very telling that they would give a lot of them new evolutions or forms in future gens)
Gen 3:
Best: I really like Hoenn as a region with its different environments and most of the Pokemon are great. Also Emerald
Worst: I’m glad I never got to experience filling the Dex in the games cuz I’ve heard it’s a long process that requires to have multiple games
Gen 4 (My first Gen!):
Best: I really enjoyed playing Platinum and Heartgold and Soulsilver. Also, I like pretty much all of the new evolutions for old mons that were introduced
Worst: Sinnoh might be my least favorite region because outside of Mt Coronet and Spear Pillar it doesn’t have a lot of memorable locations that stand out to me. Also, DP were not very good games looking back on them (but I’m glad they’re the games that got me into the franchise)
Gen 5:
Best: BW have one of the best stories in the series. I also like Unova as a region. And while I don’t love their story, BW2 were fun to play
Worst: I think they gave too many of the new Pokemon unfair evolution levels. Some examples I can think of are Larvesta, Rufflet, Vullaby, and especially Zweilous.
Gen 6 (Probably my favorite Gen):
Best: It gave us a lot of fun features like Megas, Fairy types, Amie and trainer customization. I also think it has the best roster of Pokemon (there aren’t any I really dislike and even a lot of their shinies are great). I also really enjoyed playing ORAS
Worst: I think the story and characters in the games are boring and forgettable (I really hope Legends ZA can do these things justice)
Gen 7:
Best: I really like Alola as a region, along with the story, lore, characters and a lot of the new Pokemon. I also enjoyed USUM despite its story not being as great
Worst: I think SM hold your hand too much in the story, especially at the beginning. Also, USUM’s story is a downgrade compared to SM’s
Gen 8:
Best: I like the story about the Gym Challenge. I like that it makes you feel like a rising athlete. I also enjoyed using Pokemon Camp a lot. And I really enjoyed Legends Arceus! It made the Sinnoh region and its lore more interesting to me
Worst: I didn’t care that much about the Darkest Day plot in SWSH and Rose might be one of my least favorite villains in the series. I also think Legends Arceus could’ve used more trainer battles
Gen 9:
Best: I like the main story and how you can decide which steps to take as you go. I also really like Penny and Arven as characters. This is also another Gen in which I don’t dislike any of the new Pokemon
Worst: I was kinda disappointed that the story in the DLC went back to being linear to an extent.
(I won’t post the final number here because this comment in good faith.)
Much love!
Gen 4 is the game that always puts me to sleep, without fail. If I want to fall asleep, I play gen 4. 😴😪😴😪😴😪
Terrible taste and terrible take.
@@RoyArkon cry about it
The B&W pokedex is underrated. It only gets hate cause "I can't use older Pokemon before the post game 😭😭". That's pretty much everyone who doesn't like B&W main argument.
And some unovan pokemon are better than some older pokemon
Unova had the worst starters. Cinderace and Rillaboom are cool. Inteleon is okay.
Paldean has the best storylines in the franchise. I love how the DLC introduces new characters and plot. Also, they conclude EVERY storyline (main storylines and DLC) with the Epilogue that introduces Pecharunt, who you saw every time you went to Peachy's in Kitakami (Pecharunt is dormant until you have the Mythical Pecha Berry).
oooooooh here's my own, written after only seeing your gen 1 choices. I'll finish the video after writing this. Though I'll do by region rather than generation
Kanto
Best: It's the best first region for a newbie fr. Like it kind of encapsulates well what pokemon as a series /is/ without ever being /too much/, whether that be in the 90s with gen 1 or later on with gen 3 or even Let's Go or Infinite Fusion (the best pokemon game)
Worst: I agree that it's just kind of a dull region. While it does the things that it should as your first region, it's really only memorable /because/ it was most people's first region. But at the same time that makes replays less arduous than some of the more varied regions, which I'll talk about later.
Johto
Best: I've always kind of liked the writing in the Johto games for whatever reason?
Hoenn
Best: My favorite region, full-stop.
Sinnoh
Best: Love love love the amount of new evolutions given to old Pokemon in this. Misdreavus needed Mismagius so bad, as did a ton of other pokemon. Togekiss makes the classic baby line actually good and worth raising. Additional shoutout to gen 4 introducing physical/special split but that's generation rather than region
Worst: I don't particularly like the vibes of these games and Sinnoh itself all that much? I rarely want to revisit DPPt or BDSP, idk if it's that I don't like Barry, or the aesthetic, or the evil team, or whatever, but it all kind of culminates in me not really loving Sinnoh that much. That doesn't expand to Hisui though, speaking of which:
Hisui
Best: A wildly good shakeup to the formula, which is great in its own ways even if I don't want it to become the default style for Pokemon games. It's a great way to experience this universe for sure
Worst: As there's only one Hisui game I can say this without needing to specify generation: THE BATTLES ARE TERRIBLE. Catching outside of combat is fantastic, but the actual turn based battles have been overhauled in a purely negative way. I KO a pokemon, the opponent sends in a new one and gets to attack before I even have a chance to switch? No abilities, no held items? This is just all-out BAD design. And I guess that's not Hisui's fault, it's PLA's fault, but it's very VERY easily the worst part of hanging out in Hisui
Unova
Best: What these games did for the Bug type will be something I am forever thankful for.
It could have been an interesting philosophical debate but it turned out to be just a front for another take-over-the-world scheme? fuck off ghetsis
Kalos
Best: At a time where I feared I'd lost my love for the series after having a (then) negative reaction to gen 5, Kalos came around and really brought me back into it by being explorable in 3D. But I think I have to say that Kalos giving us fairy type is probably the best thing about it. People love megas, and I like them too, but overall they aren't my favorite gimmick either. Fairy though was absolutely needed. Absolutely did NOT need it to resist bug type but whatever
Worst: Much like Kanto, it's just a little drab. There's some sections of interesting lore and setpieces for sure (which I fear we won't see realized in ZA since it's all in Lumiose) but for the most part the region itself isn't bad, just a little boring.
Alola
Best: Team Skull is GOAT.
Galar
Best: Honestly, a bunch of stuff. I always jam to the gym leader music, the town music, pretty much all the music except for the wild area's bagpipes theme lol
Worst: I mean, DEXIT sucks but it was inevitable too, it was just a matter of when would it happen. It's like they specifically wanted a shitty villain which is a shame
Paldea
Best: Probably the best stories of any pokemon game? Team Star's story is really sweet and fun, Arven's both in the path of legends and the way home is sad but heartwarming, and having yandere Nemona constantly around in the victory road story was always fun too. Similarly, the DLC stories were pretty fantastic too, even if I do still wish that Kieran had been influenced by Pecharunt to explain his dark turn. I also really like Tera, it's my favorite of the gimmicks ez
Worst: Not gonna count the glitchiness, though that is literally the worst part of these games, as a near universal opinion.
(and remember, at this point they had THREE generations of negative feedback from players about HMs, and they STILL chose to add MORE)
The fact the mythicals were all SO much better than the lake trio just made me hate the lake trio even more.
finally found the person with the same opinion as mine
@@theamazingspooderman2697 unsurprisingly, its also the gen with, by far, the highest number of merchandise-mons! Oops I mean baby evos.
I also think the lore in that gen is ridiculously dumb and was a baaaad idea. I was spot on about how actual battle mechanics would immediately ruin any sort of mystique or awe that the lore around Arceus tried to build. Really hard not to laugh at the 'avatar of GOD' getting drain punched into unconsciousness by a hitmontop with bulk up.
I agree with that! No wonder why Platinum is better than pokemon BDSM!
@@suiway Also, because GF is a retard for not giving out the Azure Flute in Gen 4, even though they make people read Braille in Gen 3 for the Regis!
Gen 4 starters being the last complete group is a crime. Gen 6 with Delphox, Chesnaught, and Greninja is a crazy lineup. Also, Gen 7's group is really strong as well. Incineroar (My least favorite from this gen), Decidueye, and Primarina.
I like gen 4's ability to let us decorate our pokeballs with stickers
My young adhd brain loved it
Yeah i remember being in HS and my friends and I going to Volk our friend who was visually impaired and knew how to read braille and asking him to help us obtain the Regis!
It would have made the chaotic order of badges make more sense, at least.
best parts from gens i've tried
gen1: from pve persepctive, crit rate based on speed is fun, hyper beam mechanics too
gen 2: kanto section
gen 3: abilities
gen 4: physical special split (and following pokemon in hgss)
gen5: reusable tms, much more new defining moves added and distributed
gen6: UI and graphics in 3D
gen7: much better opponent AI
I feel like one of Gen 8s faults is that they didn’t have national Pokédex and then I believe tried to balance by making Pokémon that would otherwise have some challenge towards getting, so accessible. Like all the eeveelutions could just be caught in the wild. Last stage evolutions that are usually trade/stone/held item. ALSO the dlc had great opportunity for 2 new eeveelutions given the settings and traditional setting of how eeveelutions are introduced. Crown tundra could have been a dragon type and isle of armor could have been steel type like big ball dropped there.
Got here early on my lunch break let’s gooooo
You really cant say that USUM is the worst iterative version when Yellow and Crystal exist.
Another worst from Gen 9 is the lack of small side quests. Because you can’t go into peoples houses, there was A LOT less interactions with the npcs, making you feel a little disconnected from the region
I guess I'll put mine for each gen?
gen 1 best: I honestly can't think of one.
gen 1 worst: They really needed to weaken psychic more, it had way too many advantages.
gen 2 best: Not so much going to Kanto but more fighting Red.
gen 2 worst: The leveling was way too grindy.
gen 3 best: Yeah the legendaries, I also liked in Emerald at least that there were two evil teams to fight.
gen 3 worst: Way too much water, if you're going to put in that much water at least make it so that there are way more Pokemon I'm running into when surfing instead of just Tentacool and Wingull.
gen 4 best: The Mythical events.
gen 4 worst: All the new TRADE evolutions.
gen 5 best: There are two, the story by far is one of the best if not the best in my opinion, and the second one is that you had to use the new Pokemon until the post game...hell most people now only play with the new Pokemon on their first playthrough anyway.
gen 5 worst: There are way too many legendaries...and some were poorly built upon like Genesect.
gen 6 best: the clothing options, I changed up my clothes in those games more than any other Pokemon title.
gen 6 worst: Story, Mega Evolution, really small Pokedex that really wasn't that filled with quality.
gen 7 best: Regional variants.
gen 7 worst: evolving legendaries.
gen 8 best: Legends Arceus, but if we're talking Sword and Shield the raids was a good addition.
gen 8 worst: Chairman Rose's plan was stupid as hell.
gen 9 best: Story, open world, and I feel like Terestalization is the best battle gimmick
gen 9 worst: Some towns felt way too small, and were made even smaller due to the fact you couldn't enter the buildings.
(I think it has some of the best set of clothes, even tho it's kind of limited compared to what we have on the Switch.)
perhaps legends za can redeem it
They might have saved it for LZA. I don't know for certain.
I wanna be able to customize the heck out of my character
Translation of Gen 9 con: I was no longer allowed to break into people’s houses and hope I can steal hidden treasures as if I was Link.
BOOOOO you just bashed sword and shield and didn't even give any good points and you only praised Legends Arceus and didn't give it any bad points. D-
i might be the only one who loves gen 5 hard. i love the pokemon, the places, the characters (especially cheren). my 2nd favorite gen.
19:08 “and I took that personally.” In all seriousness I’m a galar baby, it was the first game I actually played and inteleon was my first EVER Pokémon, and I have a soft spot for the galar Pokémon I personally got attached to, which where,
Inteleon line
Theivul line
Eternatus
Zacian
Zamazenta
Spectrier
Hatterene line
Grapploct line
And morpeko
Why does no one like boltund😢
Trevor and Tierno are the first companions who have a goal besides beating the league. They're the best rivals.
And going inside every house is weird. it's like in gen 5 when they took items out of garbages because the didn't want kids digging through trashcans.
Do This Video Again When Pokémon Generation 10 Comes Out On The Nintendo Switch 2 In 2026.
22:42 I mean I guess Gamefreak finally realized "Wait it's kind of creepy this random ass kid can come into a stranger's house."
making your pets fight is alright but not going into houses? stop defending laziness
Best thing about gen 1: the original 150 Pokémon
Worst thing about gen 1: glitches, and difficulty from said glitches. Not that I would know since I never played gen 1.
Best thing about gen 2: two regions for the price of one game.
Worst thing about gen 2: massive difficulty spike, especially in hgss with red
Best thing about gen 3: the new Pokémon easy
Worst thing about gen 3: either the contests, or the ridiculous requirements to get certain Pokémon. Looking at you Milotic
Best thing about gen 4: the starters, team galactic, and Cynthia
Worst thing about gen 4: limits on what Pokémon you can use before post game. Also difficulty spike when facing Cynthia.
Best thing about gen 5: story, and new Pokémon
Worst thing about gen 5: Ghetsis and his illegal Hydregion
Best thing about gen 6: character customization, and Heliolisk
Worst thing about gen 6: the friendship squad
Best thing about gen 7: regional variants, and team rainbow rocket in usum
Worst thing about gen 7: the botched up story in the sister games, even though quality of life improvements are better in there.
Best thing about gen 8: the character designs, and legends Arceus
Worst thing about gen 8: starter final evolutions, and legends Arceus mechanics
And finally, best thing about gen 9: story, characters, and new Pokémon
Worst thing about gen 9: rushed glitches
O remember when I was a kid, I thought that all the Pokemon games were going to keep expanding the explorable regions, but sadly..
Glad to not see any rowlet or mudkip slander
I couldn't disagree more with his best & worst of gen 8 because I love the gen 8 starter designs as an evolution line and with gen 2 are the only gens with all 3 starter evolution lines in S or A tier for me. whereas gen 9 starter designs as an evolution line are D,E and F tier for me. I love gen 9's first forms but I hate what they turn in to.
Gen 5
Best: Soundtracks, location aesthetics, and being able to battle characters from previous games
Worst: The missed opportunity to battle Hilda/Hilbert
Gen 6
Best: History and Lore
Worst: Lack of content
Gen 7
Best: Z-Moves
Worst: Useless Evil Team
Gen 8
Best: SwSh's God-tier graphics and the greatest ever Champion
Worst: It's lack-luster story
Gen 9
Best: DLC story
Worst: The incomplete graphics
I dont think Cinderace is that basic or uncreative at all. But i do keep hoping for better starters again. Rowlet and Fuecoco lines are the only two ive really truly liked since gen 6.
0:22 Everyone knows it doesn’t matter if a UA-camr disclaims that everything is their own opinion. It is your video, so your word and opinion is absolute.
Hoops: The ultra games didn't introduce enough new content
Also Hoops: I don't like the new content the ultra games introduced
This is like saying Origin Palkia should have its arms back and its hind legs cut off
Dude's talking about basic starters when blastoise is literally a turtle with cannons growing out of its back
And of course, the first Johto Gym Leader to use a Gen II Pokémon left players scarred for life.
I love Cinderace. But he should have gotten a second type. Electric would’ve been awesome
Gen 1 bugs in Gen 9 LOL
The worst thing about gen 3 - literally the entire game. Except for contests and that there were two evil teams but one of them was in your side. Those were the only positive memories I have of playing Ruby back in the days. Else the game was unenjoyable enough that it made me quit Pokemon for years. The only other Pokemon game that came close with how unenjoyable it was, was Legends Arceus.
Probably very unpopular, but gen 8 sucks overall. Arceus is highly praised, but it felt super boring to me and never felt the need to finish it... hence why I'm likely skipping Z-A 😅
finally someone else who found Legends Arceus boring
Regional variants is probably my favorite feature
Most of the time playing galar I don't use the starter
Worst feature of Gen 3 is it didn't do the physical special split. If it had, I wouldn't have to give Gen 4 any points.
While we wait for ZA, what is everyone’s favorite Pokémon game currently??🤔
Sun and moon
Sun and moon will forever be my favorite Pokémon games, alola and the Pokémon introduced were just so well designed
@@richardtaveras3593yepp arguably the most underrated generation too. Fantastic games. The long cutscenes are really the only thing holding it back
Black 2
SM/USUM :)
The worst part about Gen V was the level up mechanics.
Sun and Moon worst feature: THE TUTORIALS!!!
lets be real the best thing from SV were the leaks
ur feeling of gen 8 is everyone elses feeling of gen 4.
Minus dynamax sword and shield was amazing
