Who am I?
My name is Rachel Bigsby, and I am a 26-year-old wildlife photographer and Nikon creator with a passion for seabirds and cold-climate wildlife and a flair for capturing natural artistry! My skills are entirely self-taught, and my connection to the natural world was inherited from my late grandfather.
My work has been awarded in several of the world’s most prestigious competitions including Wildlife Photographer of the Year (winner of natural artistry) and Bird Photographer of the Year (portfolio winner), and published by National Geographic.
Beside my personal work as a wildlife photographer and Nikon creator, I am a contributing photographer for the RSPB, a proud Youth Ambassador for Badger Trust and Fotospeed, a competition judge for the RSPCA and Pro Partner to Shimoda, Tenba and Benro.
I am also a wildlife photography workshop leader and an emerging natural history broadcaster, with many UK television credits including BBC’s The One Show and BBC Springwatch.
It is my mission to connect a global audience to overlooked species like seabirds with captivating photographs which spark a new found love or interest, perhaps empowering change, while representing and inspiring young people.

New to your channel. We don’t have Fulmar in my part of the USA, so thanks for sharing these magnificent birds. I loved the intro, “ Please, look at this”, said with such joy and wonder! I feel that every time I’m in Nature! I also enjoyed the lore about the birds! I too feel like birds are spirits of the wind!
Hi! Thank you so much for joining my channel 🙂
Gosh, I really hope you see a Fulmar one day. They're the most amazing birds! Let me know if you're ever in the UK, I'll send you some great locations.
Wonderful video Rachel. The pure joy, on your face, just adds something special.
Thank you so much! I had such a lovely day filming it. It's always special to be in the company of Fulmars, but knowing that the purpose of this visit was to share the species with the work made it somehow even more magical!
I never realized that those were the origins of the word fulmar, but it makes perfect sense. Fúll már does mean foul/stinky seagull in Icelandic / old Norse. We don’t use that name any longer, we call them fýll which again is derived from fúll (foul) but sounds exactly like the word we use for elephant (fíll) when spoken…
The Faroese call them sea horses (havhestur) and like to eat them which does not sit well with Icelanders. They taste like cod liver oil that’s gone off.
Wonderful birds and great company when you’re out at sea.
Thanks for the video.
That's so interesting - thank you for watching and sharing that information!
Excellent video Rachel you’re a very talented photographer 👏🏻📸great insight into the Fulmars 👍keep up the amazing work 🤝
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it 😊
Your Mum pointed me your way on the RSPB birders Facebook and I was curious enough to have a look :)
I have just started photographing them at Hunstanton (Norfolk) about 25 miles away from where I live and have really fallen in love with them :)
I just wish my Lumix G9 had a ii at the end of it because bird photography is a real struggle for this camera!
I’m so excited to hear that you’re photographing them. I hope you’re loving the experience! Thank you for watching :-)
Thank you for introducing me to these amazing birds
So nice of you - I'm really pleased.
Beautiful birds and amazing shots. Thank you for sharing this with us :D
Thank you so much!
Magnificent Rachel !!! I love Fulmars !!!! Wonderfully captured and beautiful video !!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for letting me know.
Rachel, Your video has more than captured the reason the Northern Fulmar is my favourite seabird we get on the cliffs of the UK. Superbly filmed and narrated.Well done.
Wow, thank you! That means a lot to me. Great to know there are other people out there who love Fulmars as much as I do! We should start an appreciation club ;-)
I love the narration. It was so meditative listening to you speak about the Northern Fulmar. And your photos are just amazing!
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me.
Wow😍😍
Greetings from India 🇮🇳
Love your Vlogs 😍
Thanks so much!!
Rachel, your videography and presentational skills on this video were awesome - you are clearly a natural presenter and your reactions and obvious joy just add to the enjoyment of the overall content. I've now subscribed and look forward to catching up with more of your work. 😀
Thank you so much! This is such a lovely comment, it’s really made me smile.
So well done! Makes it obvious that knowing your subject is just as important, perhaps more, than knowing your camera.
Thank you @robertstonephoto - it's so true! You've got to understand your subject.
Nice video Rachel. I am lucky enough to visit Grimsey (Iceland) on an annual basis hosting a birding workshop. As well as the more glamorous puffin action it is an excellent location for other birds including the Fulmar. There are some excellent cliff locations where I have spent some happy hours watching them gliding in and around the rocks. An underrated bird indeed
That sounds so fantastic. I would love to visit Fulmar in the Faroes or Iceland, one day. It would be exhilarating to see the birds in a more dramatic and wild landscape than I find down here in tranquil Sussex!
I was at Grimsey last year and it was my introduction to the Fulmars …. Despite the pouring rain I could have stood on the edge of the cliffs watching these birds soar all day !!!
Hi Rachel, so good to see you on UA-cam. Your work is amazing and you are someone who I really look up to as inspiration for my own wildlife photography/videos
Thank you so much! That's really kind of you to say. I hope you have a great year ahead of successful photography!
Your passion and enthusiasm for the Fulmar’s shines through in this video Rachel.
If I’m honest it’s not a seabird I’ve given much thought to, even when I’m at Bempton, but you’ve made me question myself as to why I’ve not been more interested in them, something I will rectify the next time I’m lucky enough to be at Bempton.
Your so right about seeing wildlife solely through the viewfinder of a camera, its like the camera gets in the way sometimes, we are so obsessed with getting a photo we don’t really experience what we are seeing, especially if your the kind of photographer that likes to constantly see the photos you’ve just taken on the cameras lcd screen.
Thank you for sharing your passion for these birds, I for one will give them more of my time.
wow, @darrenspeak1785 thank you for taking the time to watch and to leave such a kind comment. Your response to the Fulmar is exactly what I'd hoped to achieve with this film!! They are such underrated birds, and as much as I respect gulls, the Fulmars deserve to be known and appreciated for what they truly are!
I'm really excited to know that next time you're at Bempton, you'll keep an eye out for them. Try the Staple Newk area, particularly! They fly quite close to the viewing platform.
Thank you again, Darren!
@@RachelBigsby Thank you Rachel, I certainly will. Weirdly the staple newk platform is my favourite one, apart from the large Gannet colony you can see from that one it also tends to be less busy than the viewpoints nearer the visitor centre, as much as I love Bempton sometimes it’s really busy and for me personally I tend to walk to much more peaceful spots, Staple newk and the cliff area beyond that are prime examples. Thanks again for putting up such an interesting video.
Amazing video, Rachel! Hats off to you!❤
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it!
Another inspiring video, Rachel! I also love the fulmars, and often see them at the Rottingdean Cliffs outside of Brighton.
Awesome! Thank you!
What a fantastic informative video Rachel I learnt so much from this video, beautiful photos as well 😊
Thanks so much for watching! 😊 I'm glad it was helpful!
Your enthusiasm shines through. Enjoy the Falklands!

Many many thanks 🙏
Thank you for a passionate and informative video on the Northern Fulmar. I live in Canada and have only been to Bempton Cliffs once while visiting my sister-in-law who lives in Yorkshire. Hopefully I get to visit there again someday.
Ah, how lovely. I hope you visit there soon!
Excellent video not an area I have been yet.
You should! Thank you for watching.
❤❤❤❤
Your videos are great I enjoy them immensely, definitely keep on doing what you are doing and I am already looking forward to you next video. I myself am also a Nature photographer/filmmaker and there is so much to discover in nature.

Thank you so much!! This has filled me with so much joy to read.
Lovely images! Did you film the sequences yourself...? excellent! Looking forward your next one! ;)
Yes! I filmed Fulmar over 12 months for a film on BBC Springwatch. Wildlife filmmaking was my direction in the beginning but I didn’t enjoy it. I’m much happier to be a photographer!
Thank you!
Nice Video, thanks!❤
Thank you too!
Us birders would call that your "Spark" Bird! Thank you for sharing :)
My "spark bird".. hmm, I really love that. Thank you for teaching me!
❤
Love love love your vidéo thank you so much from Montréal Canada
Thank you so much @0123nikon !
@@RachelBigsby all my pleasure , you are Amazing and I am learning a lot from you thank you
Rachael, try the butt of Lewis on the Isle of Lewis. Plenty of Fulmars and plenty of wind
That sounds like a dream! Thank you for your advice.
Que lindo tu nombre
Puedes ver como sus alas
Acarician la frágil muralla del viento
El atraviesa y se adentra en cada
Hebra de tu cabello
Es curiosa tu bella mirada
Quieres ser como ellas
Te gustaría tener alas
Tu rostro es claro como
La espuma blanca
Y tus ojitos se definen
De ese bello color
Que ha sido pintado
En el cielo y en el mar
Dime de que lindo color son
Pues mi mirada lograstes atrapar💋💋💋💋💋💋❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹que hermosos
Nena ellos son💋💋💋💋💋💋❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
