    Man , i wanted braces so badly bcuz i had little bit space between my front teeth and one of my lower front teeth was slightly crooked , i am 18 now so now it costs 3300 instead of the 750 when ur a teenager , so i decided to work for it , i worked every weekend for it until i got the money and yesterday i went to get them , feel so satisfied unfortunatly they only put the upper just yet cuz my lower teeth have a slight hole in them so 31 of juli i will get my second part , im really happy

    I just have the open coil springs and it really hurts so much...I feel more pain than the first week of having my braces. I thought, the first week of having braces was the most painful one and once you can adopt. It eases the pain but not until my dentist put this open coil springs. I had my first pre-molars extracted, and the gap is now being closed via closed springs. I know there are many factors at play, but do you know how much distance the springs close with every application? It's super cool to see Hooke's law in action.

    Hello Dr. Greg. Wonderful video explaining the coils in an easiest possible way. I just got an open coil spring placed between the right lateral incisor and the first pre-molar, in order to create space to bring the canine forward. I would like to ask you that, within how much time does the space get created (on an average)? Also request you to show us in upcoming videos the types of archwires and also the types of brackets (not like metallic and ceramic), since not all the brackets on all the teeth look exactly same. Looking forward what next exciting topic you are going to introduce us to. Thank you.
    Keep up with the great work! Warm wishes to your channel.

      Hi Tushkar! First of all, thank you so much for your kind words =] I really appreciate the support. I like that idea and have put it on my list for upcoming videos! So for the space, it can take several months for the space to open. There are a lot of variables such as : how much space is already there, how much space you need, how fast your individual teeth move. Keep me posted on how long it takes for you!

    :') I have a large gap created from improper previous orthondontist treatment, and am now with a more compassionate, and honest office... What my past was never provided, my current orthondontist is.
    He used open coil springs in the main concerned areas (first premolars and canines). And I believe it's now in due to open space, but to deposit new bone growth, to thereafter help better close these spaces. They'd be applying my bottom braces in October, and starting rubber bands. Thankfully, I'm confiding & seeing how it pans out.

      I had my braces for almost 9 months before the power chains were introduced, I had overcrowding, overbite and misalignment. It's weird seeing my teeth so straight. The over crowding was fixed with extraction. These power chains are the most painful. But then again I didn't get prescription pain killers this time.

    Mine started hurting recently, even though I've had them on for about 3 months now. I've been consistent with my rubber bands or elastics, and they're actively trying to shift but are held back with these likely open coil springs. 😅 I had an assistant in the office last tell me that they're likely just using an open coil spring as a passive/to hold it's gap there.

    I realize that a lot of people are asking about how coils differ from power chains, but I’d still like to know: is there any difference in 1) speed of closure, and 2) pain when using one or the other? And why do you prefer power chains?

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 років тому

      Great questions - coil springs are a consistent force so sometimes you want it to be always delivering force where as power chains work well then slowly lose their force allowing for the teeth to upright. It all depends on the preference of your doctor and what works best in his/her hands

    both my top canine teeth are impacted and they put a passive coil spring where it should be and it hurts a lot. theres a lot of space between the teeth so i can move the spring a lot, and so the end of the spring gets caught on the inside of my cheek and my lip whenever i make an open smile. i put some wav on it and pushed the spring into it for now, but im going this week to get it looked at.

    My hidden canine is being brought down to its original space and my orthodontist just recently used a type of spring to supposedly bring down the canine to its position, and the spring is hooked into one of my teeth in the lower jaw and into the canine itself, what about that type doc? I have two extra diagonal teeth that goes inside and my dentist wants to pull and align it straight. So, he had this idea of putting open coil spring to move some teeth to give way to my extra teeth to prevent extraction of my two front teeth. This is just a trial, if no movements happens in a month. He had no choice but to extract my two front teeth. But if it does work, no need for extraction. Idk if we're the same case.

    I just got 4 coils in yesterday but i feel so sore today. I cant eat because to chew is so painful. Its been 7 months with today that i got my braces. Am so glad they gave me enough time to adjust to the braces before they added this. Otherwise i would be hospitalized 😂😂

    I had a passive coil at first because I had a baby tooth that they needed to preserve the space for an implant later. my lip got caught in it all the time and basically ripped little chunks out. it was annoying and hurt a lot. I got a new passive spring during my last wire change but it fits the gap much better. haven’t had any issues yet. I have a large gap from a missing molar so I might get an active spring at some point or maybe power chains (can’t afford two implants and I have an extra wisdom tooth on that side anyway).

    I had a coil spring placed to make space for one crowded tooth. Yesterday I had it removed and and wire placed on bracket of the tooth that needed to come forward. Just overnight the tooth has moved so far forward but the teeth on each side have also moved closer together again. It now looks like this tooth will not fit in between the the two teeth where space was created. I'm sorry I am trying to explain this as best I can. Please advise what should be done now. Thanks

    Why do some need extractions for braces? How does one know if they will need extractions for braces?

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 років тому +3

      That's an excellent question! There are so many factors that go into extraction of teeth - I will make a video on it soon but just have to simplify it so still working on that! Best way to know if you need extractions is to go for an orthodontic consultation and they can explain to you a treatment plan!

      Hi,
      My upper right canine was impacted. I had surgery to remove it /c bone graft and they extracted my first premolar on my upper left side. It's a lot going on in my case lol but I was afraid on how it'll look with one canine, she told me the premolar look like a canine, she showed me other cases pictures before and after (similar to mine). I was satisfied with the work she has done, she came highly recommended. I suggest you do your research and if it'll make you more comfortable ask your orthodontist to show you pictures of their work.

    What are different function between close coil spring and power chain?

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  6 років тому

      Fantastic question. Coil springs usually are a more consistent force where as power chains burn out over time. Sometimes we want a constant force but occasionally, when sliding teeth on a wire, we want intermittent

    My orthodontist put an open coil spring on my braces because the first day I got my braces bonded one of the brackets popped off my tooth and they said that it'll be okay and I can wait to get that fixed. Eventually my tooth that didn't have that bracket on got pushed back from the process. So now I have to use the open coil spring until they can even repair that bracket.
