I suppose it's a cliché at this point to mention that in my opinion as a human of 53yrs, Mr Penn is my favorite actor. Off topic on the discussion I know, but I don't care, it's not a rule. His depth & intensity & thoughtfulness, his steadiness of character off camera, his energy, what appears to be fearlessness, I must say I look up to him. I look up to very few people. He works so hard, too. I always suggest people watch his scene in "At Close Range", where he's got a pistol pointed at his father (Chris Walken). It's exactly when I knew I was hooked. There's an Irish temper there, I see it & I know it too.
Seeing the shape he put himself into despite smoking like a 70s bar-maid, almost made me want to start smoking! I liked everything he & his brother were in (even Footloose was tolerable). If you get a chance to watch 'The First', 2018 on HULU - it was incredible. I'm talking one of the best series ever, and of course, HULU drops the idea of a second season. Natascha McElhone is fascinating in that. It was beautiful. Guess HULU don't want to invest in any zero-gravity takes? His Howard Stern interview was really cool. You could tell Howard was on his toes. Talking to a philosopher here, Howard!
I have to take a break from kissing his end credits to gush about Mr Bernthal, though. I recall seeing him for the first time on Walking Dead. Instantly I saw he was better than everyone around him. I know it's not a competition, there are no losers, but he carried those scenes & he has the much of the intensity & method acting skills as Sean. In Sicario, he's got 5 mins on screen but you never forget him - I really hope we see him in a Coen brothers project sometime. The Punisher? I mean come on, the man steals the show. Rage, sorrow, fear, regret, mania, not once do you doubt him. Haven't seen him in anything where he's calm & kind, saw him smile a couple of times in Fury, but they were "I'll skin you alive" grins. I'm always telling people to watch for his work, he's got something special. Very few method actors (I guess that's the word?) out there who don't ham it up or leave it flat somehow. Bernthal carries every scene.
Sorry for the spam, all, I just can't believe I'm seeing these guys both in the same place - I'm fanboi'ing. Gentlemen, I give you your day back.

I do consider Sean Penn the luckiest guy in Hollywood, and i mean it in a very good way, because he's not only a critically acclaimed actor who nailed in just about everything from comedy to drama and action movies, but also he have the movie star quality. And he's also a critically acclaimed director with some great movies under his belt. He had the opportunity to not only work with but be friends and hang out with some real legends like Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Charles Bukowski, Hunter S. Thompson, etc. And on top of that the guy hooked up with Madonna on her prime and one of the most famous songs of her it's based on him, which is True Blue for those who don't know. I mean even for Hollywood standarts this is one hell of a luck, you're blessed enough if you can do only one of those things.

Two of the best interviewers are Jon and Lars Ulrich of Metallica.
Both listen and do not interject their stream of thought to get the guest off topic.
Many journalists need to learn this as we want to know what the guests says, not what the interviewer's angle of guiding a narrative.
I find Howard Stern to be the best interviewer now. When he finally reeled in Springsteen it was set in stone. You're right, though. You get someone with depth & something REAL to say, you let them say it. Mr Bernthal is really good at it. But then again, when you have the best method actor in the last 50yrs, who's also a philosopher, a thinker, a doer, as Mr Penn is, you let the man speak. This is the power of podcasts, etc - no commercial breaks, casual, not beholden to advertisers' money, you can swear (should be allowed MORE of it though), and you're not wrangled into a specific corral.

It is not the best way to be honest. The best way in my opinion is to find news sources that are living by their viewerships, instead of getting financed by corporations with their own agendas

Look how Sean Penn an A list celebrity has to tiptoe around naming people like Netanyahu and suggesting nuance on this ethnic cleansing that’s unfolding in Gaza. It tells you everything about where the taboos are in this country and culture at the moment. As this thing unfolds, it is very clear who has power, and who cannot be criticized.
