Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood, Daredevil) joins us this week to share her process as an actor in taking pride and enjoyment in your performance, but not lingering on it after the fact and letting the opinions of others make you defensive in your next role. This idea of other’s opinions gets expanded as Deborah shares her experience being bullied as a teenager and how the isolation and trauma still lingers with her to this day. Deborah Ann Woll has got go be one of the most underrated and underutilized actors in the world. She made Karen into such a compelling character! It will be an absolute crime if Marvel doesn’t bring her back.
This. A thousand times this. She brought such humanity to the role, and her scenes with Jon Bernthal or Charlie Cox are some of the most memorable.

The thing that always got me was that subtle side to side rocking he does when Frank’s under stress. It’s like you can hear the timer ticking down before the bomb goes off.
Jon Bernthal is the GOAT. His Punisher is easily one of my favorite comic book castings of all time. I honestly cannot believe how humble and kind he is IRL compared to his ruthless on-screen counterpart. Truly a testament to his amazing skills as an actor.

I know this is about Jon, but not including this woman in the future MCU would be a crime. Her character still has so much potential for growth after DD season 3, reeeeally hope they decide to bring her and Foggy back.
100% agree, I actually didn't like her much at all early on and then thought she had really great character development to the point that she was one of my favourite characters

She was apart of something truly special. The show that was Daredevil was something that will never be reproduced. Bernthal brought a lot to the table and really fleshed out his character. Deborah was amazing. Very thankful the cast put so much soul into it.
Yes sir it really was a fantastic show. And that second season with The Punisher, Stick, Electra, and The Hand was pure 💥
S3 was Karen Mary Sue woke shit
It's a good example of imperfection still being damn good. The dialogue is not always good. IMO Foggy is a very bad actor. Very, very bad. But the show had vibes and layers. And the fight scenes are mostly 10/10.
@nornradd let's be honest I have my beef with some of his acting and it takes me out of the moment at times. However, compared to the newer Disney daredevil stuff, Foggy deserves a damn Oscar for his acting in comparison.
Jon is soo good at what he does but he’s still so humble. He met his hero and he fanboyed out awww 😂.
Deoborah is hugely underrated and was a big part of the netflix marvel shows. And Jon Berenthal is not only an amazing actor, but one of the best human beings on the planet. He's just a good dude.
Jon is a fantastic actor and an all around great guy. My family and I met him in 2019, and he was really cool. He loves what he does, but is a very down to earth guy. He remembers where he came from, and what it took to get him there, and he never takes it for granted.
They were both really good and charming in their own weird way. I love the acting.
Both of them were amazing to watch on screen. the one scene that did it for me during Punisher was the PTSD support group where Frank finally opens up and discusses it with them. that show was one of the few i have seen that does PTSD right, or even addresses it at all, as someone who suffers from it as well, though a mild case. If i am ever lucky enough to meet Mr Bernthal i just want to thank him for that sceen. it meant alot to me.
I hope you get better even though it's mild, and I agree it'd be cool to meet Mr. Bernthal
the scenes with Karen and Frank are so good,there is an underlying sexual tension. But both know it's not possible,she wants to help Frank,but deep down knows she can't. And Frank wasn't able to protect his wife and kids so when it comes to Karen he is super protective and even cares enough to try and shield her from seeing what he's capable of. He's at his most vulnerable around her,and in some ways that makes him more dangerous,the distant chance of losing someone important to him again and all.
I see no reason Karen and Frank can't make it happen, if ya know what I mean

From everything i saw and heard about Jon, everyone kept saying how great of an actor he is and most importantly, how great of a human being he is.

I would love to see Deborah and Jon on screen together again in some capacity. Whether that's as Frank and Karen in the new Disney + version of Daredevil/Punisher (PLEASE! He's announced, bring her and Elden back too!) or in another project. They really do have great on screen chemistry.
She was one of the best parts of the Netflix marvel shows, her character had no training, no super power, but still ran towards the bullets, and Deborah made her character believable and made you invest in her. Damn I miss shows like those
I met Jon momentarily when I lived in LA, I was at a mom and pop coffee shop with my parents and I looked over at a table and noticed Jon, i said to my dad “I think that’s Shane from the walking dead” he looked over and I nodded and he nodded back, I looked at my parents and said “yep that’s definitely Shane” my dad knowing that’s my favorite show told me to go over, I said he probably my dosent need that, he’s with his family on a Sunday he prob just wants to be a normal person. After a while he and his family finished eating he grabbed a motorcycle helmet off the table and Jon walked over to our table without saying a word stuck out his hand and I shook it still sitting down, neither of us said a word to each other. I was stumped the rest of the brunch cause he was bald I was certain Shane had a full head of hair. That evening when I tuned in during the opening of the episode Shane shaved his head solidifying his villain character arch. It was so cool he instantly became my favorite character on the walking dead and I’ve enjoying seeing his career explode. Jon if you ever read this in my book you have Tarantino quality acting skills, would love to see you in his 10th and final film.

Deborah is stunning and criminally underrated.
He’s one of those dudes that pops up in small roles in a bunch of big films n shows. Wolf of Wall Street, Grudge Match, Punisher, The Pacific, Walking Dead, Sicario, Fury, Baby Driver, The Accountant, Many Saints of Newark, Shot Caller, Ferrari V Ford, Wind River, We Own this City (which he was great in btw), and The Bear.

I greatly admire John Bernthal's long-spoken work ethics, kindness, courteous manners and, at times, no-nonsense attitude. I somehow reflect a lot in his attitudes, and sees some more of my late older brother's attitudes in him, as well. Shout out to the GOAT.

First season of the walking dad, his character's mental collapse into full blown lunatic is incredible
The first three seasons of that show is the entire show to me.

I think proof of him becoming that iconic is in how fucking excellently he can nail the smallest roles, he’s barely even in The Bear or has the time to build up chemistry but MAN he hits it out of the park in the smallest scenes especially Season 2 episode ‘Fishes’
I really enjoyed him as Punisher and was able to pick up his autograph on a Punisher photo from Steel City Con. I've liked him in all the roles I've seen him in so far.
Jon is someone who has completely mastered the Way of the Marine or Soldier mindset and with that it is difficult sometimes to actually be around others who have not even dared to be in the military.Great Actor,Great Man.

I get the feeling that Jon Bernthal's working class background kind of holds him back from enjoying the moment, like he doesn't feel like he deserves whatever fame or accolades he gets. Case in point is his interview on Conan's podcast. He gave off this vibe like he was out of place talking to Conan, like he wasn't in the same league. I hope he realizes he can enjoy his success because he IS a good actor and by all accounts, a good person.
Lol he's not even remotely "working class" he grew up in Cabin John an affluent Maryland suburb of DC, his father was partner in a law firm and he went to the same school as the children of several US presidents

I met him briefly at a Comicon and he was very cool. He was actually leaving but took a moment to say hi to my 12 year old son. Gracious and classy, to go along with talented as hell.
Loved smallville when I was younger and loved daredevil punisher as an adult. Both of these actors helped to really make their respective shows memorable.

@@TheN1ghtwalker ahhh not true actually. Netflix did have the rights to DD and Punisher. They actually were starting to begin pre-production on DD season 4 when the plug was pulled. Disney had no say in what Netflix could or couldn’t do with the shows it had as they had the rights till 2021 and could have done one more season of DD and punisher. They however chose not to as with the launch of D+ they didn’t want to promote their competition and keep paying the licensing fees. It was not a smart decision on their part as DD was one of their top rated shows of all time
I love how the title says Deborah Ann Woll is the one doing the talking and literally 2/3s of the video is just the host telling stories about Jon Bernthal.
Karen is one of my top female characters in the MCU cause she has emotion and she cares deeply so much so that the actress herself gets emotional that her character has so much life in her and a very relatable personality.

I’m praying she is in the new Daredevil: Reborn. Her Karen is a beautiful character that is underrated in Marvel series.
One of only two guys that come to mind when I think a big part of their casting was their incredibly perfect for the role ANGRY ROAR. His gut deep roar of dread, anger and murderous intent is perfect for Punisher. Jackman obviously looks the perfect Logan but he also has the perfect guttural roar that is perfect for that character.
What I loved about Karen in story is even with all the going ons with Frank. She saw the man. The man that was spiritually and emotionally broken. Even confronting her editor on why they didn't report Frank's story that he had children and wife that died in gang attack...all because DA would get a black eye. She the humanity deep within Frank (aka The Punisher). Deborah played it so well with being fearful and understanding of the Punisher / Frank that NO other character could delve that deep into Frank's story. Deboorah / Karen character was so pivotal to all the heroes as she gave you the average person's viewpoint.

Jon is intense in the sense that he's aware and lives the moment, which is something only about 5% of the American population does, so if a person is in the moment people mistake that for intensity
