Yes, only the middle class runs the country, poor people don't pay taxes and they receive freebies from the government. Rich people also don't pay taxes because they always borrow heavily from banks and try to approach CAs or tax consultants to evade taxes and avoid paying, traders pay less tax, it just comes under digital pay and there is no proof of black money.

What I could conclude from this podcast is:
1)he has a great knowledge and a great interest for the nation
2)He is very self centred, somewhat he is angry or frustrated that he isn't in the cabinet and personal inalignment with Modi

4) He is accepting India is on the right track and at the same time where is development

I remember during my college days i used to read his article in TOI. I have won several debates just by referring to his article.. But after seeing this podcast, I think he had some expectations with the BJP which were not fulfilled and he is unhappy about that. I may not be that knowledgeable but i think right now we need BJP. True, indeed a fearless man, but observe what a colossal waste of raw intellect & logic, which is why the ancient texts prescribe humility, self restraint, moderation & control over ones ego.
Swamy is a textbook case of how an uncontrolled ego can destroy even the finest intellect. Modi/Shah had given him a golden opportunity to head a prestigious, multi-nation BRICS bank. It was an opportunity to make a huge success of that assignment, mend ties with the Chinese, prevent Dokhlam or maybe solve the China border problem, displaying his self-proclaimed tales of astute statesmanship with the Americans (Gulf War refueling rights)
That would have ideally positioned him as a claimant for FM, HM or Commerce Minister with full Cabinet rank, working directly under the PM.
Instead SWAMI wasted this opportunity due to his misplaced sense of entitlement.
And public abuse of Modi has not worked for anyone since the last 40 yrs. Every opponent of his over the last 40 yrs who abused him publicly has simply fallen by the wayside..
Dr.Swami, very disappointed to listen to your podcast during election time. You should sort out your differences within party. Very irresponsible behaviour. If people vote for INDIA alliance after listening to this, we may have Rahul Gandhi as PM, Mamta Banerjee as Home minister , and tejsvi yadav as defence minister. Is that what you want?

I am glad that there were many things that he brought up being done inappropriately by current govt. that I also keep banging my head as to why is that being done that way..be it taxes, be it telling lies, be it wasting the hard earned money of working class or the issue of transparency. Working class pay off 4months of their income as govt. taxes and on top of that they pay tax for everything they purchase. This needs a resolution sooner or ppl will start exploring ideas to evade taxes

He has for long been my favourite politician. As an engineering student in Bangalore, I attended his press conference when he had launched his own party. I had just written a letter to him about his views on China and Israel and I was surprised to get a reply inviting me to meet him. Courageous man with phenomenal contacts and sources worldwide. I think Subramanian Swamy's inclusion in the BJP reminds of the old quote from President Lyndon Johnson "It's better to have your enemy inside the tent pissing out than have him outside the tent pissing in". This guy is a loose cannon and frankly not easy to work with. He has the stereotypical attitude of an intelligent intellectual. He thinks he can do a job very well meanwhile he is demeaning and belittling people around him. He looks down upon them. There is a reason this guy always came through the Rajya Sabha and not Lok Sabha as in a Lok Sabha election he would have shot himself in the foot with his big mouth. He is talented, smart but doesn't play well with others and will cause a lot of animosity amongst the people that he works. So I think it's a great decision by Modi to keep him in the party and he wants to stay in the party as he wants to be politically relevant. He is using them and they are using him. This also falls in line with the fact that Modi sidelined a lot of senior politicians who were part of the old gaurd. Their thinking was outdated, they would have got in Modi's way. Their ego wouldn't have allowed to take orders from a guy who they thought was an underling. He had to wipe the slate clean and remove people who would have become roadblocks. Other examples are Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha.

One thing I learnt from this podcast is high qualification is only a certificate of knowledge. It's not a certificate of integrity and character. I'll use this Swamy's case as a classic example every time someone tries to win an argument with what they have achieved decades ago.

This podcast has left me with lots of questions to be asked from Dr. Subramanian.
1. In regards to his comment on India's current GDP growth (please note I am not an economist ) ,if as an average person I am doing well during an inflation period, and I go back in time when there was no inflation (goods were more affordable), but earning current day wages, wouldn't I be living more comfortably? So in other words, given the current global state the GDP growth is good.
2. Income tax should be 0?! Isn't that the current ideology in US which has led to such an aging infrastructure in US. Please stop bringing that selfish ideology to India. We are a growing country and we need taxes in order to help India keep growing, keep building necessary infrastructure.
3. Under PM Modi's government, tremendous work has been done to build road infrastructure. How do you suppose all that work got done without money/taxes?
4. Dr Subramanian says no progress has been done under PM Modi's government but then how did the Kashmir issue got resolved under current government (after dealing with the issue for 75 years), and when was the last time India hosted a g20 summit?
It almost feels like Dr. Subramanian had an agenda and given the current geo politics there is lot to be questioned.
