got mine yesterday after went back and forth exchanging a couple guitars at GC and this one feels very comfortable to play. It's lightweight body, smooth neck and awesome pickup justify the $1000 price tag. For an entry level gibson, it's just absolutely incredible.
I’m digging this model a lot. I don’t mind the scaled down features. As long as it sounds good and plays good. There’s not enough sonic differences that matter when I’m going to rip out the pickups anyway.
I feel the Gibson Tribute Satin Honeyburst looks better..more utilitarian and practical..i feel it will match my character as I age..make a better looking family heirloom
Mine is a 2021 in Iced Tea. I hesitated to buy one because of the maple neck and that's one reason I went with Iced Tea, the neck is stained. Well, I love it. It's the most stable guitar I've owned. From the beginning. My last new Gibson was a 2018 SG Standard and while I loved the profile, it took a year and a half for the neck to stabilize. It was very finicky. I cannot find a flaw with my Tribute. Mine is 7 pound 13 ounces, sounds great and plays great. It may be an entry level Gibson but that's ok, you couldn't tell it by the sound or feel. And yeh, I've bought and sold several Epiphones, they aren't the same. Forget the headstock and the name on it, the difference goes way beyond that.
I had the same thoughts, so I'd ordered a cherry but it had bad fret work so I sent it back. So the two red ones have matching trans red backs and necks, but the tobacco burst one, which is by far the finish I'd want, doesn't have that tobacco black in the back of the guitar. It has this same grayish maple neck and natty mahogany back that just barely works here with the honeyburst top, but looks like ass on the tobacco burst. The 2018 gold top Tribute had a nice even medium tone color all throughout the back to go along with the eye catching gold satin top and it was 999, so maybe they thought it was too bad ass looking at this price point so they made new uglier ones and raised the price.
Me gusta mucho como suena la guitarra Les Paul Tribute. Suena más definida. Desfinitivamente iré por una TRIBUTE. Gracias por éste video. Saludos desde México. 😃
HONESTLY, tone-wise, closing my eyes, I could not pick any difference (though I must say I'm not a trained musician). Now, looks-wise, there's no comparison.... they are indeed universes apart.
This is a good review, I have this guitar along with other Les Paul's and I noticed that the rosewood fretboard is a little thicker as compared to the standard, I also swapped the pickups to '57 classics with zebra bobbins. This is one of favorite Les Pauls
I bought one used for $750 in excellent condition. It sounds and plays great the 3rd Gibson i have owned. Love the lighter weight makes it more comfortable to play. Regretted selling my last Gibson Les Paul so im glad i got this one.
I bought one of these to be the backup to my Standard and i actually like it more. They are incredible guitars. They also made me realize that i prefer a guitar without neck binding. They are almost like LP Specials with a carved top and no neck binding.
I purchased the 2023 Les Paul Tribute in the honeyburst finsh for the music director of the church I attend after researching other Les Paul's. The combination of USA made, closely matching two piece maple cap body, rosewood fingerboard and maple neck for additional resonance(and strength at the headstock) ,and the 490 pickups sold me. The pickups are both very bright which I appreciate especially in the neck position. The price of 1299 including a deluxe padded case is very affordable when comparing other LesPauls. The only changes I made was to swap in Kluson locking tuners and filed the fret edges. I love this model and have since bought a 2916 Tribute with p- 90s for myself. Adding the different finish options , you can't beat this guitar.
bought this guitar yesterday, so beautiful, so smooth, so perfect. When I got home, played it, for a moment I was like - I am holding USA made Gibson ! So glad I did not skipped it and now I actually have an amazing guitar with amazing sound. This is only guitar I like neck pickup with gain, still punches through with clarity
I just pucked up a used 2019 Les Paul Tribute in Honeyburst for a crazy low price. It feels SO much better than the Epiphone LP '59 Outfit I used to have. There is a noticeable superiority in materials and build quality, feel, smell, and tone. This guitar has exceeded my expectations.
Thanks for the review GV. It's October '24 and I have been eyeing the Tribute honeyburst since I saw it on Rhett Shull's Les Paul rankings vid. Of course, Gibson discontinued the line (too affordable for Nashville make?) and now I am seeing almost all of the Tributes inching back up in price. Most used are $875 on the low end and $1100ish on the high end. I decided to pull the trigger and got a '22 through Musicians Friend that was in Highland Park, IL. Super quick shipping and so far everything is great. The price was pretty good too at $950 plus shipping for being in excellent shape. I plan on shielding the guitar and replacing the board with a custom JEL Guitar Electronics LP wiring harness with 550k VIPots (Centralab spec) and Emerson bumblebee caps. Not sure what I will do with the pickups, imagine I will upgrade at some point. Like you I actually dig the maple neck and satin nitro finish. Couldn't be happier and this will likely be my only Gibson.
to me 2015 lp custom sounded little bit better, but there's no big difference that you should expect from custom lineup and this new tribute, this is the cheapest gibson that we can afford and i think it sounded cleaner and brighter than custom but cleaner sounds not for everybody just like me. great review again!
The tribute sounds ever so slightly brighter to my ears. I have gone and ordered this exact same model now before it starts to go up in price. You gave a really good review on this guitar, and it helped me make my decision on buying one 👍. Can't wait to get my fingers on it 😊
I like seeing GIBSON on the headstock! My (used) LP Tribute P90 in black satin is a great guitar that barely cost $100 more than a new Epiphone. Now I see a Honey Burst Tribute locally for $1100 CDN. Time for another Les Paul methinks! Update: Bought the Honey Burst Tribute. The neck feels great, those 490s are clear, bright, and articulate. To my pleasant surprise, the body is one piece of mahogany. It looks great with the pickguard and poker chip removed. I love this guitar.

Great review. I love simple and almost minimalistic look of this Tribute and now I am torn apart weather to go with PRS SE McCarty or save up a little more and get the Tribute? My current guitar - cheap Epiphone LP Special so I am thinking the neck on Tribute will be similar.
Great review, the Tribute is awesome indeed. Tried to find your subsequent review on the Studio, haven't found it. Looking forward to that one, since I own a 2013 Gold Top with P90s. Cheers!
Thank you George for answering the question of soldered or Quick-Connect pickups. The video was thorough and well paced. I may be ordering one of these Tributes soon. It will replace my current 2012 baseball bat LP in worn cherry. I subscribed.
I have one. 2013 tribute 50 which, unlike the models of the time, came with humbuckers and a case. I changed the tuners for the groover ones and put a strap lock. the color is sunburst tobacco. I used it a lot with my bands and today it has a lot of natural relic. I always think about painting it, but the relic is what prevents me the pickups are the same as the one you recorded. I'm also thinking about switching, but I really like the 490T
To me the Tribute is more pleasing to the eyes and ears. You will just need to update the Bridge with a higher end Chrome plated one, Grover Tuners, remove the circuit board and wire it old school, upgrade the switch, upgrade the knobs, upgrade the nut and you got yourself a sweet guitar.
Some while ago I wouldn't have even considered this guitar, if I'm being honest I don't really like how it looks, but paying double or triple the price for a standard is way too much, now I'm kinda liking it... but I'm also thinking of buying an epiphone les paul modern, it just looks so pretty, has an ebony fretboard, in and out of phase and coil split, it also has locking tuners, but lots of people said that this one is way better, the satin finish feels better, it has a better resale value, it sounds better with a slightly lighter weight and it's a gibson after all so the qc should also be better but it's twice the price as the epiphone. Idk I'm still debating, I know you've played both of these so which one would you say it's better as in playability, comfort, material quality? And also is it my idea or the maple cap on these ones is thinner than the other les paul models? But oh well I've watched so many of your videos that I've changed opinions too many times 😂 maybe I'll change my mind after watching some other reviews, you're that good at reviewing guitars great video
I’m very happy you liked the guitar and it left a good impression with you after you had some time to fiddle around with it. Not that it’s generally cheap, but you really can’t beat the quality for that price. Thanks for reviewing it! It definately plays way better after you showed it some love hahaha :) ❤
At 4:00, the neck pickup's plastic mounting ring is installed crooked, bent around the corner of the pickup and screwed on so it doesn't line up properly. This is more than disappointing on a $1,299 Gibson guitar.
Don't forget one important thing...Aside from the price is the weight. I have a Classic now it's awesome but it weighs a ton. The Tribute looks great less expensive sounds good and lighter so I'm looking at actually taking my Classic and swapping it for the Tribute
Mmmm, I wouldn't do that. I have reviewed the Classic in a Honeyburst colour and it is way better than the Tribute. Almost Epiphone vs Gibson difference. But yeah if weight is your main concern go with the Tribute.
@@GeorgeVGuitars hey George thanks for writing anyway I went ahead and got the Tribute my friend. Recently I've bought the Standard and the Classic outside of the outward appearance which to me is nill the Tribute with the faster neck and lighter weight...And the to me the great tone was a no Brainer. Sorry I disagree on the comparisons you made but we all have out views I respect yours. The Tribute to be should receive binding it's a killer axe and now that im comfortable with it I may have binding put on actually
@@GeorgeVGuitars Thanks appreciate your vote of confidence I really do. My who I thought was my best friend that owns a music store called me a "loony man" guess he isn't the best friend I thought. I've never read one negative report on the Tribute. I had a standard and the the classic they are heavy beautiful paper weights that don't sound better and cost double.
@rayadray9279 I am thinking to buy this model today...after going between a Studio or this Tribute..your comment helped alot..with some cream binding from back and neck.this would be so beautiful..my last guitar ever needed!!
Good Video ! I think the Epiphone Les Paul Modern Figured w/ProBuckers would be a better choice .Bound Ebony fingerboard , locking Grover tuners , weight relief . All that would be needed is a hard case and MAYBE swap the pickups and it would still be less than the Gibson Tribute .
Having listened to them side by side in real life, there is definitely some difference. But I don't think that amount of difference would be easily hearable through youtube compression.
Irl there is a real difference, UA-cam compression messes up the small details, but you can still hear a slight difference nonetheless. Not to mention playability and feel to the player is where the money goes at the upper end (outside of looks)
It sounds a little bit thinner than the Custom. Not worse. I own two Les Pauls (one is a Tribute) and a PRS all with very similar construction but each one has its own slightly different sound. The Tribute is generally well manufactured and sounds great.
Great review man, thanks for covering details like nut width etc. You've convinced me to check one out in the guitar shop. Subbed your channel on the back of this review.
It’s hard to hear a difference with so much distortion in the signal. I know the experience of playing a Custom vs a Tribute feels different but the distortion sound is almost the same.
If the guitars are close enough in specs I do a full comparison in my videos, including Clean, Crunch, Lead. Sometimes its just for fun with distortion.

ALL Gibson's enjoy the benefits of plecking NOW, don't they? And locking the gig bag keeps YOU out, but fails miserably at keeping someone else from walking off with your axe!
Here is my experience. I have played guitar for 45 years. I've owned 2 Gibsons, one acoustic and one electric. I sold the acoustic because the sound was inferior to many guitars that cost less, far less. I was not impressed at all. For the electric, I bought a Gibson Les Paul Tribute just last week. I received the guitar on Monday. By Monday afternoon I had called to return the guitar. The neck and fingerboard were totally misaligned. I've bought many, many guitars in my day. I've never seen such poor craftsmanship. I paid $1300 for a total piece of junk and returned it. My experience with Gibson guitars has not be positive. I'm amazed that Gibson would actually let a guitar like I received come out of the factory. There was a 1/16 inch misalignment between the neck and fingerboard. It was sharp enough to almost cut my finger. I would never, never order any Gibson product online. If you buy one, go to a store and play it, and most importantly you inspect the guitar thoroughly. One last note is that the customer rep I talked to when returning the guitar said that they are continually amazed at the junk that the Gibson USA factory puts out. It's a continual process of people buying and then returning them. My advice is to be careful when buying any product that has "Gibson" on it. It is very evident that their quality control is likely the worst in the entire industry, and yet they charge a mint for all their products. I used to be a Gibson fan, that is until I bought two of their guitars.
They were supposed to have fixed these issues. PRS on the other hand are generally flawless. If you want a fantastic les paul go custom shop if you have the money.
Can we change the finish on the tribute to burst because now I am more into burst kind of thing and the PRS SE 594 has that? But for a jazz player what do you think will fit more
Just dont understand why they would put SG pick ups in the Les Paul because all the demos of these Tributes with 490 pick ups sound like SGs to me and not Les Pauls at all.
Weirdly it was the other way round for me. I have reviewed a Classic last month - that sounded dead to me, but felt and played like a dream. I'm gonna give the Classic one more chance when I find a cool finish.

In my country usually it is $400 more. I would like to buy one. Is this good to have a tone like slash?
Just ordered one. Gibson has discontinued them. As of today, there are only 4 left at the Gibson distribution center. Get one while you can

I dont own a Tribute, thats probably the explorer: ua-cam.com/video/GjQgLq_gFtQ/v-deo.html
Great video thanks❤❤
I am glad you like it :>
That’s a cool case.
Great review man, thanks for covering details like nut width etc. You've convinced me to check one out in the guitar shop. Subbed your channel on the back of this review.
Thank you. Let us know how you like it, when uouget the chance to try one
Clicked on your video because of your VH4 😂
Amazing amp, works with every guitar ⭐️
It’s hard to hear a difference with so much distortion in the signal. I know the experience of playing a Custom vs a Tribute feels different but the distortion sound is almost the same.
If the guitars are close enough in specs I do a full comparison in my videos, including Clean, Crunch, Lead. Sometimes its just for fun with distortion.

Thank you for playing punk :)
I tried 😳
A beautiful guitar

1:27 had to slow the video to pause it😆
Yeah I love putting things like that in videos. :>> Glad you saw it
tribute a little brighter. better even.
I owned one, it played well. Looked boring though, and the pickups pretty much sucked. Sold it.
Yeah its ok
ALL Gibson's enjoy the benefits of plecking NOW, don't they? And locking the gig bag keeps YOU out, but fails miserably at keeping someone else from walking off with your axe!
Yeah, locks on cases are pointless. They Just keep curious people out, not thiefs
Thank you for that feedback!
They were supposed to have fixed these issues. PRS on the other hand are generally flawless. If you want a fantastic les paul go custom shop if you have the money.
@@johngee4306 Yeah I have 6 CS LP Customs. PRS are far from flawless though. Same as with Gibson.
@@GeorgeVGuitars CS 59 les paul would be my dream axe. There’s just something about them.
@@johngee4306 Yeah I reviewed on of them, pretty nice

Tribute les paul is discontinued
Yeah for now :/
@@GeorgeVGuitars when and if they come back, starting price will be 2500.
Can we change the finish on the tribute to burst because now I am more into burst kind of thing and the PRS SE 594 has that? But for a jazz player what do you think will fit more
Both are fine, maybe the PRS a bit more.
@@GeorgeVGuitars what about the finish on the tribute can we change it
@@johnconner8434 Well yeah u can change it on any guitar if you have a skilful guy to do it.
Just dont understand why they would put SG pick ups in the Les Paul because all the demos of these Tributes with 490 pick ups sound like SGs to me and not Les Pauls at all.
The SG sounds pretty close to the LP depending on your gear and play style
ALU MI NUM!!

It’s definitely not a entry lever guitar
It is an entry level Gibson

Partly hollow body lacks the true LP sound Really ??? 9~42??? get some 10s going on....lol
I dont make the rules. Thats what the owner wanted ;)
Owned one. Sounded very dead. Sold it. Bought a Classic.
Weirdly it was the other way round for me. I have reviewed a Classic last month - that sounded dead to me, but felt and played like a dream. I'm gonna give the Classic one more chance when I find a cool finish.
Sometimes all it takes is adjusting the pickup heights.
@@Cookie4yabro We have tried that :/
Did you try swapping in a fresh set of strings? Old strings can make a guitar sound pretty dead.
@@jasonswitzer1748 I did everything with it. It was probably the wood itself.
As a lifetime guitarist, WHY? Demo a guitar by a shitty beginner chainsaw player??
Okay 😳
That’s kind of harsh. Just because the dude doesn’t play music you enjoy doesn’t mean you should diss him. Where the hell did civility go?
Wrong
.. the lpj les paul is the entry level.
@@MikeBall-sz2jf Show me the LPJ in Gibson's current line up ;) It has been gone for a while now ;)
