Love Jeep Pick-ups ! I got an 88 Sport Truck , Stripped & Simple but its , for only about $3,000 in Work its Beautiful, put in a Clutch and 5 Speed Overdrive, so much Fun! always wanted a J or Gladiator , Good Metal Work !
Looks awesome! Fun Fact - BJs Offroad has just started selling the old-school Gladiator gas pedals and ball mounts. I might switch out my originals for some new ones in the future and add the originals to my growing 'decor'
Absolutely love your build I have a 75 J10 love these trucks I've also had a 64 Gladiator it had to go to scrap though it was too rusty but I saved the bullnose off of it for my 75 love love love these trucks
you would stitched it on to heve pressure run to the winch so when you build pressure the winch would work they were bad ass winches and are hard to be beat if you look up the info online and finf the stuff for one it would be bad ass hard to find though
The valve in the floor is/was a common gas tank switching valve in the 60s and 70s, used to add an extra fuel tank to the vehicle. Most often the add on tank was a gas tank from a tractor, bolted underneath the bed. You also likely have a vacuum leak on your carb or intake manifold, that is probably the reason for the high idle. You also likely have a stuck/burnt/bent intake or exhaust valve, or possibly a bent pushrod that is causing a miss. Pop the valve covers and look for a bent pushrod or a valve that isn't opening or closing. If the valve is stuck, you can sometimes free it up by smacking the valve with a rubber mallet a number of times (engine off) until you force the valve past the point where the carbon has formed on the stem preventing it from moving in the valve guide. Use a light lube or MMO to help free the valve. If the valve tip sits lower than all of the rest and doesn't respond to a rubber mallet, you may have a bent valve.
Years ago I had an early 60s Chevy sedan that mounted the accel pedal the same way. There wasn't any bottom restraint but for sure the fit between the balls and the pedal bosses wore down and it wouldn't stay on. I used a flat strap to hold it down too. The flexing and stretching after a while caused that part of the pedal to crack so you might want to keep an eye on it.
I had a lever in my '65 Gladiator just like that one (7:03) for switching between the tanks..It was more located toward the door though.. I think my Grandpa moved it there when he put the two tank system in the Bed of the truck
I’m a big fan of doing what you can with what you have. The only thing I would note is that the center of the drivers side pan should be plug welded to that floor support.
Gonna be a nice rig when all done ive always had a soft spot for fsj,s i was wondering myself why not just go full sguare on drivers side metal to prevent future work, but i guess its fine.i agree with another commentor i would run some solid bolts and 2inch anchor plates top and bottom of those support beams, then weld them in place to make your floor and cab one solid foundation for seats.was wondering were you got rims and what make n size.looks like 10x15 need a set for my 2002 jeep grand hard to find 10x17 all ive found is 9x17s then of course u need tires to fit.expensive our hobby!anyhow enjoy.snookie pa.🤪😜👍💥
I have two J2000 in Sandy, Utah. 1969. I can't remember if it is J3000. I've done the floor repair too on one. I can tell you that yours is an extreme case. I do have a cab that is on a chassis that I want to make a trailer. I think it is in pretty good shape. I am willing to deal. The future "you" will consider this a learning moment. For $100 you could have my cab and doors and all. Rino grill.
You have done a much better job on your floor pans than I did on my 1966. I just cut some new metal and used sheet metal screws as I do not have welding skills. However it has held up well over the years. Is your Jeep a 327 V8 truck with a four speed ? Mine has the 232 straight six with a three speed floor converter shifter. As far as that shut off valve in the floor I suspect it may have been for an extra fuel tank as my Jeep did not have anything like that. I will send you photos of my Jeep as soon as it comes back from the shop where it is getting new front springs put on.
The floor came out good, I'd say it'll work for what you're going after. I'm subscribed to follow this one along. I'd look into a generic rubber mat that you can cut to fit. And get some dynamat under the rubber. Little noise and heat reduction.
Goodluck!! Not that I can think of. The only thing I would’ve done differently is I should’ve used the brush on Bedliner in a can. It’s a lot tougher and way more textured. Which is what I wanted
Very cool 🤙 i just did the floors and rockers on my squarebody. I also just acquired a pair of these gladiators one is a j4000 long bed and a j2000 (I believe) swb not sure about the years i believe ones a 68 the other a 71 not 100% though. Just brought the j4000 home and about to get started lucky the rust appears to be minimal.
Sweet! Sounds like you have great taste lol. I’ve wanted a square body forever and I’m currently trying to get a guy to sell me one that’s out on a field haha. The worse part about these jeeps is getting the parts
@harleystillwell7519 yeah the squares are cool I have 2 of them. My 81 K20 pickup and my 85 C30 suburban both turbocharged. I have too many projects. And lucky the jeeps came with a bunch of extra parts we'll see if any of them come in handy.
Awesome video buddy!! I ju😢ran across your video and had to watch because I love them old jeep pickups for sure!! I no of a lady that had I think it was an 80s style jeep pickup that was definitely a rare one that she had but ended up burning up in a big barn fire along with a one owner 1968 or 1969 Chevelle SS 396!! I felt so bad when I had herd about it all burning to the ground and getting both vehicles along with a few other things also!! And with no insurance either!!! Definitely a really big loss!!! Anyways awesome video once again buddy and remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!
Screwing the gas pedal end while having the hinge balls WILL make the pedal stiff. Kinda like tack welding a door to the fender then saying the hinges are stiff. Other than that good job.
My concern is what type of reinforcement did you use on the underside of the seat bolts. Just a larger washer and nut will let the seat pull completely out of the floor should you be in a collision. Be safe. good to see the young starting in the fabrications and restore hobby.
Great job Harley....Using scrap metal is way better than using fiberglass body glue to paste cardboard on the floor. But I suppose if you know where the holes are and you can stay away from them you will not fall through. Reminds me of a joke I heard....lol If that license plate repair was not yours I suggest sending them an email to tell them what a great job they did...kinda
should have rebuilt the floorboard supports while the floor pans were out.. lazy job by welding plates over the old rotten floor on the passenger corner, no fixing the kick panel rust either... you did a good job onn the floors, but got lazy with everything else.. sorry.. i have a grand wagoneer, and a 76 j10 and ive done floors as bad as this on my Jeep J10.. but i cut all the bad stuff out and fixed it properly.. Sorry for the critisism
Putting carpet in these old cars and trucks is Never a good idea. This is the end result, rotten metal.I restore old square bodies and I feel your pain, nice work on the floor.I would have flapper disc all of that metal and weld and that paint would never have any problems.Weld some sole pads in the floor for those seat mounts just for peace of mind.

Id like to eventually switch my over to the hanging style off the fire wall. And also use the floor one as decor😂
Just started on a 67gladiator project same color as yours I'll be watching.
Love to hear that! Id love to see yours some time
I think its a gas tank crossover for a two tank set up
what a hack job...When I was your age I would have done it the exact same way! I had a 64 Kaiser J 3000
Trace your supports pull your steel back out drill holes and plug weld
Looks like that should be a pretty solid floor to me. Nice job!
Oh to have a young back again😂 Floor came out great!
Thank you sir!
Absolutely love your build I have a 75 J10 love these trucks I've also had a 64 Gladiator it had to go to scrap though it was too rusty but I saved the bullnose off of it for my 75 love love love these trucks
Thank you! They’re the coolest
If you use carpet, you won't see anything, get it ? I have to do my 1991 Cherokee next spring, not looking forward to it. Lol
Maybe that switch on the floor was for another gas tank at some point
you would stitched it on to heve pressure run to the winch so when you build pressure the winch would work they were bad ass winches and are hard to be beat if you look up the info online and finf the stuff for one it would be bad ass hard to find though

You did a GREAT job on the floor repair 👍
Looks good. It does suck trying to do stuff by yourself some times.

Yeah it really seems like it won’t last long stretching like it is when the pedal is pushed. I’ll be sure to check it often, definitely don’t like it
Auxiliary gas tank valve.
If your truck has or had dual fuel tanks, then that is what that "T" selector valve is for.
You can get the peg part for the gas pedal if you order them for a late 60's to early 70's Chevy truck. They are basically the same things.
Thank you I’m definitely going to look that up
I had a lever in my '65 Gladiator just like that one (7:03) for switching between the tanks..It was more located toward the door though.. I think my Grandpa moved it there when he put the two tank system in the Bed of the truck
What a great video showing what can be done with the basics!
I’m a big fan of doing what you can with what you have. The only thing I would note is that the center of the drivers side pan should be plug welded to that floor support.
Yep i agree! I actually ended up pulling the screws out I had holding the floor down to the floor support and plug welding it down in a 3 or 4 spots👍🏻
that switch you asked about might of been for a pto driven winch that was removed at some point
The t case has the output. So maybe
Looking good! Glad to see you're preserving a piece of Jeep heritage. Keep up the good work.
Thank you sir, will do
Well if you have dual tanks it's a switch to switch from one tank to the other
Gonna be a nice rig when all done ive always had a soft spot for fsj,s i was wondering myself why not just go full sguare on drivers side metal to prevent future work, but i guess its fine.i agree with another commentor i would run some solid bolts and 2inch anchor plates top and bottom of those support beams, then weld them in place to make your floor and cab one solid foundation for seats.was wondering were you got rims and what make n size.looks like 10x15 need a set for my 2002 jeep grand hard to find 10x17 all ive found is 9x17s then of course u need tires to fit.expensive our hobby!anyhow enjoy.snookie pa.🤪😜👍💥
Will do👍🏻 I’m not sure the brand of these wheels I got them used but I know they’re 15x12 and the tires are 33x13.50. Pretty wide
Looks good. If you have the chance, pick up a bead roller from harbor freight. If you bead roll the sheet metal it adds a lot of strength.
Will do thank you

Let me see if I can make that happen. That’s far but I know someone that goes out that way with a trailer

going to be doing this with my 69 gladiator. My floor pans looks just like yours lol. any advice if you would do it again?
Goodluck!! Not that I can think of. The only thing I would’ve done differently is I should’ve used the brush on Bedliner in a can. It’s a lot tougher and way more textured. Which is what I wanted
@@harleystillwell7519 I was thinking of doing bed liner as well, seal it up. Because I can always put carpet over that.
Exactly what my thoughts were. And If you decide to never cover it atleast it’s tough

I really appreciate it Thank you!

Kinda like tack welding a door to the fender then saying the hinges are stiff.
Other than that good job.
Thank you, without screwing it down it pops right off with any pressure. Maybe the hinge balls are just too worn out
Looks good
Great bud good job

Thank you👍🏻
That “valve” on the floor is tank selector. If previous owner ran a second tank could just reach down and switch tanks. My truck has it.
That’s what I thought! Thank you👍🏻
use a door hinge for pedal
You did great. Its a old truck. It doesn't have to be perfect to go camping and off roading
Thank you, that’s my plan!
Awesome job keep it up
Thank you sir will do

Try coveringfloor with rubber and rug to protect it from noise
Good idea thank you!
Should have used 3m. Seam. Sealer on joints
Good 👍 job is awesome 👍😁
It probably had a second gas tank
You can turn it to the 2 gas tank
