- No More Jockeys is a game created by Alex Horne, Tim Key and Mark Watson.
✔ HOW TO PLAY
On each turn, players name a person plus a category they fall under. That person and category are then eliminated, and subsequent people must not fall under that category. As more categories are added it gets harder, and eventually impossible, to name anyone new.

You have to admit that Tim's skill at freezing is unsurpassed. Even when I know he's pretending he fools me.

Horne pulling out The Egg Sketch in the middle of NMJ is just wonderful. I haven't heard that thing in years!
To be fair it was Key who pulled it out.
This game generates so many never-before-uttered sentences: 'It's the same amount of a film as ox is a meat'.
'I'm not the kind of guy to fall foul of the literal last category we did, cheers'. Don't think I need to say anymore.
Yet
No More Jockeys is, when you think about it, a great way to spend a Friday, and that's without exception.
The Key/Horne egg routine from the 2005 Fringe making a return.
My favourite NMJ player is Tim Key. If i had to compare him to a football player, i'd plump for Jay-Jay Okocha, or to use another word, FLAIR. Pure flair. He may not have won the league, but his mastery with the ball with fan-favourite skill moves like penelope pitstop, job gloves and the no-look camera freeze often have the stadium in uproar. He may not have the trophies to back it up like certain other players, but he does it all for the love of the game. THE LOVE OF THE GAME. This is what you want to see as a fan, not a bunch of medals or trophies getting dusty on the mantel, just a player playing his heart out.

They really need to make an official clarification or ruling on this. We've had: "she wears job gloves because racing is her job", "no it's not, because racing isn't actually her job" and both were allowed. Which is it?
Key plays by no man's rules. Which cane be frustrating in a game with set rules.

@@BodywiseMustard I am American, so I would say “LOO-er.” However, I would say even in British English, “LURR” seems more common than “LYURR.”
I think it’s integral to the plot to keep all the swears in ESPECIALLY the c bomb. It sets the tone.

i'm just gonna say it: Mark looks like a whole snack in that suit.
I think it's brilliant, actually.
Neither did Watto say “acting stem” (he was frozen at the time, it was Key himself who said it), nor did Horne say “yeah”.
Still, Horne didn't correct Key when Key said "acting stem." It's not against the rules, certainly, but still an underhanded play by a crafty player. There should be some responsibility to make sure the other players understand a category when you say it, which Key clearly didn't.
But also the category was not film - it was movie. :D

It's quite sketchy what Horne did. He didn't explicitly say "acting stem," but he also didn't correct Key when Key assumed acting stem. Not against the rules, but certainly underhanded play. Still, nothing less than what we've come to except from Horne, a crafty player if there's ever been one.
Even though it's only been a few weeks away, I'm really glad for the return of NMJ as a welcome break from lockdown III. It's days lke these that make me wish I was back in Hungary chewing down on some ox.
In the meantime, us in Hungary have to google what the hell an ox even is 😂
A very honourable walk from Watto on "ox" meat. I wouldn't have minded him staying in but it's always nice to see such displays of sportsmanship.
When you think about it, you get beef cheeks but you don't get cow cheeks, which suggests that the convention when naming culinary cheeks is to prexif them with the name of the meat, not the animal. Therefore, the existence of 'ox cheeks' on a menu (eg at Pizza Express) suggests that ox is in fact the name of the meat.
Key really is living in my head rent free.

Tbh I always used to confuse Mark with Marcus Brigstocke when I was younger, but I also always used to confuse Simon Pegg with Rufus Hound.

Hello from Hungary - we don't eat more ox than you over there, folks ;) We have a traditional folk culinary event called "ökörsütés" which literally translates to "ox roasting" and we also have "ökörfarokleves" (ox tail soup) - but the word "ökör" (ox) doesn't in itself mean a kind of meat in anyone's mind I would say - and nobody here eats ox meat on a regular basis, I can assure you ;)
(US) oxtail stew, oxtail soup, and Jamaican oxtail recipes are pretty well known
(although maybe not "common", but definitely a meat that is eaten here too )

Ox meat is called beef

I always had the impression that all of the contestants are friends of either Horne or Davies, which goes back to when it was show at Edinburgh

Surprised to hear Alex say he doesn't like eggs. I remember in a previous NMJ match Alex had an egg mashed up with cheese and pepper as a mid-game snack. Thought at the time, 'this guy must really like eggs'.
