This album will help anybody through tough times younger or older. This album will help with depression, bullying, drugs or any other big issues people go through. Korn will reach into your chest, mess with your brain, give you motivation and hug and put their hand on your shoulder. Great band and deserve all the respect.
The way Johnathan Davis comes in with Mary Had a Little Lamb is so viscious! Lol Makes me so happy everytime! 😂 Korn is so damn awesome! Great reaction as always 🤘
“Ring around the Rosies” refers to the red rings that started to develop on plague victim's skin. These red rashes, that were circular, would later develop into large, and very painful black boils on the skin. “Pockets Full of Posies” stems from the lack of knowledge at the time about how diseases spread. It was believed that disease was spread through bad smells, which means that people held bunches of flowers to their faces when going out in public, to protect themselves from bad smells. "Ashes, Ashes” it’s actually about the burning of the dead bodies from the victims of the plague. “We all fall down” is about the many people who died from the plague. The falling down is said to represent death, and everyone “falls down” or dies, because the majority of the European population was wiped out during the time of the plague.
The genre started with two bands: Korn and Deftones. Deftones will bring you the sensual side of Nu-Metal and they have a different heaviness compared to Korn. You'll like it. Great reaction.
Deftones is one of the band that has stayed with me through 24 years since I first found them. They have released on a regular basis and not released a single album I haven't liked and definitely have a distinct sound. Well worth checking out.
Deftones also had more of a progressive rock influence as well. Similar to Mudvayne though they were way heavier than Deftones and rather than 60% Nu Metal, 20% Hard Rocker, and 20% Progressive Rock - like the Deftones were, Mudvayne was more 60% Progressive Metal, 30% Alternative Metal, 10% Nu Metal. Those two and Korn were really the three cornerstones of that scene in the late 90's to mid 2000's.
I took this song as proof that Jonathan Davis can sing anything and make it cool. This was our sh*t back in the day. Shout out to my outcast brothers and sisters! 🖤🤘🤍

There's a lot of vocals on that album where Jon is just being some kinda wild crazy man (a little like Mike Patton). So much amazing alternative stuff came out in '94, but these guys had something really unique. IIRC the guitarists, Munky and Head, did some unusual tuning on 7-string guitars which had them really stand out from everything else.

One fun thing about this song is that it makes absolutely NO SENSE if you didn't grow up with those particular nursery rhymes. Being Swedish, I grew up with a completely different set of nursery rhymes, so this song was always just...so odd. Hahahaha. As for the next song by Korn, I can recommend Blind. Especially the live performance at Rock Am Ring 2007. I think you've only reacted to studio album versions of Korn songs, right? It's high time to introduce you to their live performances. They are crazy. Blind was the first song on their debut album, and it *really* set the tone for them. Can't be a better song to introduce yourself to the world with. Bonus: that performance features Joey Jordison on drums.

I'm here to recommend two of Korn's biggest influences again, as per the Wikipedia article on Korn: Mr. Bungle and Faith No More. Both have the same singer - Mike Patton - though Faith No More had a different singer for their 1985 and 1987 albums. For Mr. Bungle, their self-titled album (1991) is the most relevant for influence, though fair warning: it is weird. Check out 'Carousel', 'Egg' (stop at ~7min 30s if you want, the rest is a recording of them talking on a train...) and 'Quote Unquote' - formerly known as 'Travolta'. With Faith No More, it depends: The Real Thing (1989) is the album that got popular, with 'Epic' getting loads of play to the point that some people call the band a one hit wonder; 'Falling To Pieces' and 'Surprise! You're Dead' are also fantastic. I'd argue Angel Dust (1992), their subsequent release, is more influential and just all around a better album. My favorite tracks from that one are probably 'A Small Victory', 'Midlife Crisis', and... I'm gonna censor the title: 'J***lobber', but it's really hard to single out tracks since the entire thing is absolutely killer. Finally, if you want more Mr. Bungle, California (1999) is consistently incredible; start with 'Retrovertigo', then maybe 'Goodbye Sober Day' and 'The Air-conditioned Nightmare', then... the rest of the album.
I was finally able to see Korn live in concert just last year. Never was able to back in the day. Jonathon Davis came out playing the bagpipes very last song and sang this. I completely lost my shit and shouted as loud as I could every word of this song. 42 years old and this band took me back to being 15 years old that night. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Korn holds a special place in my heart. This album was the first metal album I bought when I was a kid, and I played the crap out of it. The bassist in the band stirred up my interest in learning to play the bass. Also, Babymetal opened for them on tour in 2017.
This is one of the greatest and darkest debut metal albums of all time. It's my personal favorite, when I bought it in 1994 it blew my mind and it still does til this day. So many relatable songs and lyrics that just tear at the heart strings. Jon's vocals are phenomenal, haunting and legendary. They have influenced so many bands that it's not even funny. Love all your reactions Aileen, keep up the great work. 🤘😎
Aileen, I am really really glad that with Korn you have started your reactions with their first album. In my humble opinion, it is absolutely the best. It is raw, less processed, less commercialized....it is a masterpiece to this day. Stay with it, there are absolute BANGERS on this album....front to back. But......you also need to check out the DEFTONES. Around the Fur =Best album, But they're all good, every album.
This song is new to me and I didn't know he 's a piper, but very impressed. Bearing in mind many nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and children's stories are really dark . And so was his childhood so I get it. Knick knack Paddy Whack is very disturbing given what he went through. (I'd say think about it but really you can't unthink it so don't) The power of Korn I'd that they convey so much raw emotion, so much of it ugly. Because nothing changes unless we come to grips with it. Great reaction!
I'm from small town western Kansas. I remember when I was 16 in 1999. Two buddies of mine and I were cruising around town in the summer time, blaring rock and metal music from the car with the windows down. We were sitting at a stop light when this song came on. The poor person next to us wasn't ready. Little ole lady from a much more conservative time. First, there was confusion as she heard bagpipes coming from the car next to her. Then, even more confusion to see these bagpipes were being enjoyed by 3 teenage boys dressed all in black, baseball caps sporting different band logos, and deeply black wrap around sunglasses like the little edge lords we thought we were. That confusion turned into abject terror when the guitars and drums kicked in, and we started nodding our in head unison to the beat all while looking right at her. I've never watched a little old lady drive so fast in my life when the light turned green. We were just jamming and meant no harm.
Back in high school, my girlfriend at the time was complaining we didn't have a 'song'. We were driving and I told her the next song to come on will be 'our song'. This was it. Think of her every time I hear it. I still miss her.
OMG you have such a sharp ear! How you described you experienced the bagpipe into; I know this song for over 25 years and you point out something new, that's just brill! Also, how quick you got the deeper meaning of the (nursery) song is impressive. Great reaction, please keep it up, peace!
Scotland loves Korn, and JD loves us and the pipes and kilt. I was in the crowd of a Glasgow gig on his birthday. The band brought out a cake, and the crowd sang happy birthday, it was awesome. I wish there was a recording of it. Edit: There is, search "Jonathan Davis' Birthday Surprise! (Glasgow, Scotland 18.1.15)"
"Nursery rhymes are said, verses in my head Into my childhood, they're spoon-fed Hidden violence revealed, darkness that seems real Look at the pages that cause all this evil" This is the important part of the song.
Its always very satisfying to see your reactions. I think you almost everytime got exactly the intentions of the artists. Love korn for almost 25 years and could not agree more. As a german i must say that your Rammstein and Electric Callboy reactions are also very on point. Very good Work.
@@AileenSenpai it's also nice that you are very connected with everybody in this comment section. By the way I noticed that you are very drum focussed. I played the drums for many years thats why i always watch drum related Videos on UA-cam. I think, you should really really watch and react to Matt Mc Guire and his Cover Version of pendulum. I'd like to hear your opinion. Have a nice day.
Johnathan went to Highland High here in Bakersfield Ca. And their school mascot was the Scotsman. He played the bag pipes for school functions occasionally.
I said in your Freak On A leash reaction, this is my favorite song by them. I agree with you 100%. This song taught me that no matter how innocent something is, it can be/have bad intentions.
That intro🖤. Still remember when i listened to the first time. For me is probably the best song in their first album. I think you would be very surprised with Tearjerker, which is from See you on the other side album.
Seen Korn live during the Follow the Leader tour (I'm old) but by the end of the show he was just laying on the stage gasping for air, Jonathan Davis gives everything during a show. Such an amazing live show.
The band that pulled me in and I never let them go ❤🤘 Kind of feel old seeing you react to this song for the 1st time 🤣🤣😭 .. Falling Away From Me by Korn should be your next one. Don't think I saw it in your reactions 🙃 🤘 on
The thing about hiding monsters from your kids is, they don't see the monsters, but the monsters can still see your kids. Too much innocents can be harmful also.
Korn as a whole have been amazing for years .. Jonathan has got to be one of if not the greatest conveyor of pure chaos in your mind and it just explodes into pure art of expression.
This is my second favorite KoRn song. The bagpipes in the beginning of the song is actually Johnathan Davis playing the bagpipes. Blind should be next. Great reaction as well
"The pocketful of posies" relates to the flowers stuffed into the pockets of the dead st the time of the plague. 1-2 buckle my shoe is a poem about death sweeping through a small village. London Bridge actually did fall down and many people were killed. This was the first band to call attention to how violent those stories were, let we taught them to our children. One of the best of all timr
I saw KoRn (and Deftones) open for Ozzy just before their first album official release. I think Blind was the first song they played and Shoots and Ladders was mid-set. They shut the lights off and there was silence and we thought the set was already over. Then you just hear the bagpipes, and finally a spotlight hits Jonathan walking in front of the stage by security. And in the crowd, everyone is like “wtf is this?!” and when the drums hit and the song fully starts we were all mesmerized and head bobbing to the beat. And even though we haven’t heard the song before we could all sing along.
I always envision a sunrise behind a beautiful country landscape at the beginning of the song......and the beat dropping is the comet obliterating everything
The way you break down Jonathan is probably the best I've ever heard on the internet. If you are this able to enjoy the uncomfortable vulnerability your corn reaction videos are going to be amazing.
Fieldys bass after the bag pipes always gets me....only time I ever saw Korn live was Woodstock 99 and Davis has said in interviews that Woodstock was their best performance EVER. It was unlike anything I have ever seen and witnessed. The pit was an absolute experience....you didn't move yourself, the crowd moved you. Everyone jumping in unison was INSANE....I would totally watch you react to the whole hour performance that is how good that show was
You have become my favorite music reactor. You put alot of thought into your analysis of the music and aren't just taking things at face value lyrically.
You have to listen to the song before this on the album "Faget" it's raw and deep, not quite to the level of daddy, it's an amazing track, and your comment on the snare tone, David hit the skins pretty hard, in fact he hit them so hard he actually broke his wrist on stage.
@@blazeparabellum7325 have you heard "Twist" by Korn? It's such an original. It stars off with John Davis doing his metal scatting thingy! So brilliant Imo.
apparently the 'london bridge' song refers to when the bridge was built they thought they needed child sacrifices to keep the bridge from falling down. they even found child bones inside the base of the bridge somewhat recently.
I've got so many memories from when I was a teen listening to this album. So glad you're loving Korn. If you can, please do a reaction to Amerika by Rammstein. I was looking through your Rammstein reactions I realized you haven't done it yet, which surprised me. Love the channel so much, keep it up and enjoy the music.
I grew up listening to Korn because i was a metalhead since i was a teen. I wore all the Adidas stuff, i had oldschool Adidas shoes and put spikes all over them, i had dreadlocks too. LOL I found my favorite band by reading the Korn website forums back in 2002. Someone recommended In Flames and i was blown away with them.
“Ring around a rosie” was the red circular rash that developed on those with the plaque. “Pocket full of posies” many people carried posies around in their pockets as it was thought to ward of catching the plaque “Achoo - achoo, we all fall down” sneezing, coughing, collapse and die. Pretty damn grim
I saw them live on lowlands, Holland on their first tour, sound was so loud that the first row went to the back, nicely I could go to the front, 😁 , ✌️
I love this song so much the bagpipes are everything and Jonathan‘s voice amazing ! 😉I’ve seen korn a few times back in the day so good 🤘🏽🖤 my favorite concert is in Bakersfield CA The Encounter just them on fields of crop circles on the Summer solstice 2010 so fricken good 💙 🙋🏻♀️🎶music is life! 🎶
ring around the roses bc of the rash that formed on people infected by the plague, a pocket full of posies was how they marked people that died from the plague and it was "achu achu we all fall dead" in the original song sang by the children in Europe at the time.
A lot of childhood nursery rhymes were to help children deal death in the Middle Ages. Ring Around The Rosey specific was about the symptoms of The Black Death
I was in 5th grade when this album came out. I had an older sister so I got into it right away. I was a fan right away. I had a traumatic thing happen to me right at that time and it was cathartic.
Johnathan Davis is playing the bagpipes. Hes Scottish-American which also answers why he is seen wearing a kilt in Korn's music videos and live performances.
You really should keep going with the Korn reactions. They have been incredible from the beginning, so don't overlook the rest of their older music. 🤘 🖤
This is by far KoRn's greatest album ever and a top 10 in my personal list of albums. I bought it in 1994 and was lucky to get Jonathan, Munky, Head, and Fieldy to autograph the album cover in person in '95 at a signing a day before the first time I saw them live.
Falling away from me is a must do if you're doing Korn. Also blind is fucking killer. It's the song that made Korn's career in the 90s and they only got bigger and better from there.
Yeah, there's alot of feeling in his songs, I love korn....my wife did too...sadly she passed away, but I feel I am with her when I listen to korn, her fav was coming undone....mine is twisted transistor...check them out...alot of metal out there you haven't heard....\,,/.....\,,/....metal for life!
If I remember correctly, "Shoots and Ladders" was KoRn's first music video. It's basically the same as the song, except it was shortened by removing most of the opening bagpipes, and going from the end of the 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' section to the final 'Knick Knack Paddy Whack'. If you want to hear another Korn song with a really good bass part and what I consider to be a disco beat, check out "Got the Life"

Some great Jonathan Davis bagpipes here too.
My favorite Korn songs are Clown, Souvenir, and Faget. I love all their songs, but I think those are definitely my favorites.
Finally someone who likes See you on the other Side
Korn holds a special place in my heart. This album was the first metal album I bought when I was a kid, and I played the crap out of it. The bassist in the band stirred up my interest in learning to play the bass. Also, Babymetal opened for them on tour in 2017.
A very good song by Korn.Very happy that this song was on this channel ❤️🥰🔥😍🤘
hope you enjoyed it
@@AileenSenpai yes!!!! Korn rules and yourself as well😘
Huge Korn fan since 99. I really enjoy your reactions and has always, i really love watching you trying to analyze all
I appreciate that :)
Around the Fur =Best album,
But they're all good, every album.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head with nursery rhymes having darker meanings. That's what they were going for with the song.
You are such a beautiful soul. You have a light about you that is very warm
One of the greatest smacks in the face when this came out,Legendary Korn
"Nursery rhymes are said, verses in my head
Into my childhood, they're spoon-fed
Hidden violence revealed, darkness that seems real
Look at the pages that cause all this evil"
This is the important part of the song.
I'm glad to see you revisit Korn. "Daddy" is their darkest/hardest song, it nothing but pure enjoyment after that.
Jonathan's been playing bagpipes for years since he was young, and his songs rock, even with the bagpipes!
Its always very satisfying to see your reactions. I think you almost everytime got exactly the intentions of the artists. Love korn for almost 25 years and could not agree more. As a german i must say that your Rammstein and Electric Callboy reactions are also very on point. Very good Work.
thank you so much!!! :)
First KoRn song I ever heard, I was instantly hooked
I said in your Freak On A leash reaction, this is my favorite song by them. I agree with you 100%. This song taught me that no matter how innocent something is, it can be/have bad intentions.
That intro🖤. Still remember when i listened to the first time. For me is probably the best song in their first album.
I think you would be very surprised with Tearjerker, which is from See you on the other side album.
Seen Korn live during the Follow the Leader tour (I'm old) but by the end of the show he was just laying on the stage gasping for air, Jonathan Davis gives everything during a show. Such an amazing live show.
Hes got asthma pretty bad, he hits an oxygen tank between songs now (has been for a while).
@@blazeparabellum7325 I seen them way back in ‘98… He only left the stage maybe once or twice during their set. Wonder if he was doing that back then
@@WeirdWookiee quite possibly
The band that pulled me in and I never let them go ❤🤘 Kind of feel old seeing you react to this song for the 1st time 🤣🤣😭 .. Falling Away From Me by Korn should be your next one. Don't think I saw it in your reactions 🙃 🤘 on
A lot of people forget, Jonathan is a professional bag pipe player
Korn and Deftones always make me think of a good friend I lost long ago.
Oh the memories. Listening to this song while playing video games like One, when I was a teen in the late 90's.
The thing about hiding monsters from your kids is, they don't see the monsters, but the monsters can still see your kids. Too much innocents can be harmful also.
Korn might be the most influential band of the 90s... combined so many different genres... Grunge, Metal, Funk, Hip Hop,
Korn as a whole have been amazing for years ..
One of the best of all timr
when you hear this song live, you know you're getting a compilation of all of their songs they won't be playing... and every time, it's amazing
The beauty of this song is the innocents of the nursery rhymes..but talking about the dark meanings of each of them..🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
'Coming Undone' was always a heavy hitter for me growing up.
Everyone jumping in unison was INSANE....I would totally watch you react to the whole hour performance that is how good that show was
It's nice how you describe the feelings that you get from the music
You have become my favorite music reactor. You put alot of thought into your analysis of the music and aren't just taking things at face value lyrically.
Thank you so much!!
I'm going to see Korn next month. My 3rd time am I'm so excited. One of the best live shows currently.
1996, Luebeck, Germany. GO BANG FESTIVAL. Jonathan plays the bagpipes live. Unforgettable.
You have to listen to the song before this on the album "Faget" it's raw and deep, not quite to the level of daddy, it's an amazing track, and your comment on the snare tone, David hit the skins pretty hard, in fact he hit them so hard he actually broke his wrist on stage.
I love to hear John Davis doing his metal mental scatting. It's so original and brilliant!
Isnt it? I always rewind a little bit to hear it a few times before i let it play on. Especially in Rotting in Vein.
@@blazeparabellum7325 have you heard "Twist" by Korn? It's such an original. It stars off with John Davis doing his metal scatting thingy! So brilliant Imo.
“Mr. Rogers” off their second album Life Is Peachy is pretty cool. It’s about the kids show Mr. Rogers Neighborhood from way back.
Seeing Korn live, and the moment the bagpipes start. What a rush!
apparently the 'london bridge' song refers to when the bridge was built they thought they needed child sacrifices to keep the bridge from falling down. they even found child bones inside the base of the bridge somewhat recently.
Teacher: Who taught you nursey rhymes
KIDS: KORN
I've got so many memories from when I was a teen listening to this album. So glad you're loving Korn. If you can, please do a reaction to Amerika by Rammstein. I was looking through your Rammstein reactions I realized you haven't done it yet, which surprised me. Love the channel so much, keep it up and enjoy the music.
Thank You... keep em coming! Absolutely great reaction... Korn... the eye opener!
“Pocket full of posies” many people carried posies around in their pockets as it was thought to ward of catching the plaque
“Achoo - achoo, we all fall down” sneezing, coughing, collapse and die.
Pretty damn grim
1994 man, my first Korn album. turning 40 now I still listen to them.
Korn will always be one of my favorite bands
I saw them live on lowlands, Holland on their first tour, sound was so loud that the first row went to the back, nicely I could go to the front, 😁 , ✌️
I love your reactions, you are amazing!!!! This song is 29 years old!!!!! I love This!!!!
I love this song so much the bagpipes are everything and Jonathan‘s voice amazing ! 😉I’ve seen korn a few times back in the day so good 🤘🏽🖤
my favorite concert is in Bakersfield CA
The Encounter just them on fields of crop circles on the Summer solstice 2010
so fricken good 💙 🙋🏻♀️🎶music is life! 🎶
ring around the roses bc of the rash that formed on people infected by the plague, a pocket full of posies was how they marked people that died from the plague and it was "achu achu we all fall dead" in the original song sang by the children in Europe at the time.
A lot of childhood nursery rhymes were to help children deal death in the Middle Ages. Ring Around The Rosey specific was about the symptoms of The Black Death
There is also official music video to this song
Live footage in that video is from the 1995 tour opening for Danzig and Marilyn Manson.
I was in 5th grade when this album came out. I had an older sister so I got into it right away. I was a fan right away. I had a traumatic thing happen to me right at that time and it was cathartic.
Bagpipes just get me every time, raised in America but from Embo Scotland. Beautiful
It's so cool when you see Jonathan Davis come out playing the bag pipes..and playing them well
Devine by Korn is a song that changed my life when I was 26 years old . That was 23 years ago for me as I am turning 49 in August.
Saw them live in Wichita, and when Johnatan walked out playing his bagpipes the entire stadium lost their collective minds. \m/ (>
You’re right in time. You get it. Nice job not interrupting and letting the music speak.
Falling away from me is a must do if you're doing Korn. Also blind is fucking killer. It's the song that made Korn's career in the 90s and they only got bigger and better from there.
One of my absolute favorite songs from my favorite album! 🤘😝
If you want to hear another Korn song with a really good bass part and what I consider to be a disco beat, check out "Got the Life"
DAMN,definatly one of the Best MOSHPIT/WALL OF DEATH Song I ever experienced Live right in the Crowd....
