Love this guy - his enthusiasm and knowledge. I'm doing the research into replacement windows BEFORE I have anybody come out to give me estimates. Thank you to Jeff for sharing all of your knowledge! If I were in the Houston area, you'd be the first person I would call! I live in CA.
Thanks for watching and your comment. By the way, I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Years ago we replaced French doors with a French slider. I like sliders since they don’t get in the way in a room when they open compared to a French door. That’s why I also like barn doors and pocket doors inside my house where appropriate
I prefer French doors because they’re generally cheaper and can seal better than a sliding door. There are new lift and slide sliding doors that do seal really well, but they’re VERY expensive. For me, the cost increase isn’t worth the few extra feet of usable space I get with a slider. (Also with every sliding door I’ve seen, you have to pull the blinds back on one side of the door and then open it at the opposite side, which just makes going out of it so silly and unnecessaraily laborious. French door = open door and walk out. But at the end it’s all personal preference 😎
Thank you for watching and for your comment. I agree with you on every point except for price. Typically a French door will cost at least 50% more than a sliding door. Go online to Home Depot and check it out.
I've always assumed I needed all double hung with all their moving parts. But now I realize that's not true. In my home build this year, I plan to incorporate more fixed windows to save energy and money. Every single window does not need to open.
Hello, I've binge watched several of your videos over the last couple of days. I'm located in Chicago. And though it might sound cliche, I have been helping a friend do research for replacing all the single pane windows in his house. I just watched your 7 ways to save money and what I'm wondering is what is the double, double hung windows in a single frame called. I'm trying to source that style and I can't seem to locate it under my double hung window search. Last question, do you have a wholesaler you could / would recommend. Both of us are above weekend warrior quality workers and have 50+ years between us. Somehow windows have never made it into our work history. Thank You. I Enjoy your videos very much!
Thank you for watching and your question. It's called a Double Double Hung. I'd suggest you look for windows at a big box or a lumber yard. The wholesalers won't sell directly to you if you don't have a window business.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Or they can get a wholesalers license for their state. May be more cost effective for them and then they may want to do more windows for their neighbors around them. 😀
Do you guys usually give an itemized estimate? As in cost per window separated from labor and other materials? I just got a quote and the salesman wouldn't be super specific and really tried to get us to focus more on the payment vs the total.
Thanks for watching my videos and for your question. We operate in Houston and the Dallas/Ft Worth area. However, we have great relationships with so many wonderful window dealers all over the. Country. I started a website where you can see if we have a trusted window company in your area. Perhaps I can point you in the right direction? Check out TheWindowExperts.com for a dealer near you! All the best! Jeff
That may be the case. If so, go back to the beginning and consider getting more proposals before you make a final decision. You may still decide to go with that company, but you should always ask for a better price when you're not using their financing. They're financing is not free, it cost them a lot of money.
Hi Jeff! We're still having sleepless nights not being able to choose a brand. Those Windsor french doors in your video are beautiful! But we have to go Vinyl though unfortunately.. Do you have a top 3 favorite brand for Vinyl single hung white windows with grids and sliding doors?
Check out my "Premium Vinyl" video. It's a good place to start. You can also check out JeffsList.com to see if we have a good window company in your area.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Yesss...saw that video. Just making sure your opinion hasn't changed. So we'll go for one of those 3 brands then. Most probably Pella 250, since they have a dealer in Miami. Your videos are making choosing windows bearably. So thanks again! 😊
@@HoustonWindowExperts Tiny chance we might go with Windsor anyway without even having seen it in person, 'cause your Premium Vinyl video is pretty convincing. But #nopressure though 😄
Lol.. maybe some day. I started a website where you can find a great window dealer in your area. These are companies that I know personally and can recommend. Check out TheWindowExperts.com
Window prices and labor rates are too high now. I’m waiting till supply chain shortages subside and labor rates come down. Now is not the time to buy cars or windows.
None taken, when interest rate increases take effect and people feel less wealthier - and demand is curbed that is when the inflated prices now on durable goods and services will come down.

If your wall is 16" OC - and your going to cut a hole in it for a slidig door. Does a standard size line up with a specific install method?
Typically they would be 8, 12, & 16' doors.
Thanks Jeff.

People have been waiting for home improvement costs to go down since 2009 lol.
No disrespect, it may very well go down. We are in an unprecedented time in our economy.

For Northern climates with lots of snow, a sliding door is more practical.
Good call.

Twelve brands now. You had 20. What happened?
We lost a few during Covid due to their drop in quality control. We also had a couple that shrunk their distribution.
