Our builder and lumber yard both recommend Marvin over Anderson when we went black outside frames. Anderson black paint/coating scratches easier per them
From the significantly more beautiful state of Vermont, THANK YOU! This video was worth some money all by itself. Appreciate you sharing the in’s and outs. Seriously thank you
We went with marvins. My wife saw their retractable screens and it was done. We have a lot of shade so wanted as much lite as possible. Screens are always retracted so view is crystal clear, love it! Also, sticker shock is serious with these windows, $1200 - $1500 a piece is normal, not even installed. Try searching online for typical cost and it’s very misleading.
Marvin vs Anderson, I always find Anderson looks/feels inferior. Having more choices may please designers, but average homeowners rarely care that there's a zillion color choices.
These are the details I needed to be aware of. Thank you! I was wondering if I was crazy for not liking the wide, flat look of a lot of replacement windows I've seen, and didn't know there could be white finishes on a black window, depending on the brand. That would have bothered me had I not known to ask when I'm ready for ordering. Thank you!
I started my window project with Marvin Ultimate. I didn’t know about the hidden weather stripping. That’s pretty cool! I decided with the Ultimate compared to the Integrity because the hardware is better. Thanks for this video! Great comparison!
Have you done a review of the Marvin Essentials and the rest of the Marvin line head to head. Like the Ultrex but is a good window long term? Thanks for the help
Jeff, I am considering the Marvin Elevate. I want wood interior and fiberglass exterior. However, I thought the brick mold was part of the window. I am told it is not and that we have to use Aluminum coil wrap around the window. That does not sound good to me. I would love your thoughts on this??
That is common practice on a project like yours. At my company, we prefer to replace that exterior trim rather than cap it. We replace it with a composite trim that will not rot or warp. See if they can do that. Have you also looked into the Infinity From Marvin?
Renewal by Anderson. When you want to pay 5X the cost, with 1/2 the quality. Serioiusly, I got quoted $110,000 for windows from Renewal by Anderson. Went with Marvin for 20k.
Jeff, my wife and are loving your channel!! For the past several months we have been trying to determine the outside color scheme for our house and pairing that scheme with the right window. We have narrowed our search down to Marvin and Pella. Is there any chance you could run a comparison between the Marvin essentials and the Pella 350. We are leaning towards the Marvin essentials, but we were wondering what your opinion is on the two. We don't want to overspend for the house and the neighborhood but still want a good quality window that will last. Thank you very much!
Thanks for watching our videos. I can tell you that the Marvin Essentials would be far better than the Pella 350. You should compare the Marvin Essentials to the Pella Impervia. (They are more of an apples to apples comparison).
@@tubamike No one that I am aware has a warranty on argon fill, and exactly what class action lawsuits are you referencing regarding "inferior design"?
So it was recommended to us because Anderson’s can’t use the same frame/jamb we currently have and we have nice stained wood trim around ee very window that Marvin makes a hybrid aluminum exterior/wood interior and we can use the existing frame/jamb and just drop the marvins in thereby keeping the existing trim intact. I’m not sure what level marvins our guy is referring to but are these Marvin drop ins/ he called em inserts good quality for us who wanna get a long life outta the windows.
Jeff I've got 2 bedroom windows to egress in my basement. The windows gotta have a 24"x20" 5.7 sqft opening. Having a tough time finding any windows in 3 months. But homedepot sells an egress andersen 400 28"x48" with pine interior and vynil exterior which is white and it's on the shelf. Other options are 100 series jumbo hung which is available in a week. Or pella hung window with worse u factor and thermal gain. It seems the 400 is the best match to the existing andersen double panes in the house. It will also fit my 32" existing farm window openings. Is the 400 pine gonna be okay? Seems like wood always rots and could I paint the exterior brown to match the fiber cement siding?
I'd be very comfortable with the Andersen 400. The wood will not be an issue since it has the vinyl exterior. Please don't paint the exterior, it will not last very long. It will start to peel and you will need to repaint it every year or two.
Not a powder coat finish, Marvin is 2605 finish standard, it’s an upcharge on E-Series, 2x the performance and dramatically longer service life… make sure of your facts. It’s a flouropolomer finish of 70% kynar. That alone is a deal breaker. Also grids on e-series, are full surround grilles stapled into the window leaving the staples exposed.
Would you please discuss in your next video what brands have triple glaze windows with U-values 0.16, and with simulated divided lights? I was surprised that some manufacturers do not offer simulated divided lights for triple glaze windows.
Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I actually don't have any triple pane options in my showroom because they don't perform as well in a southern climate as a double pane window will. The reason it's hard to find SDL on some triple pane windows is because there's not much space between the panes to accommodate a shadow bar. You can probably find SDLs on a triple pane without the shadow bar between the panes. I'm almost certain that Marvin, Pella, and Andersen can do it. Have you checked with them?
@sophia, please be careful. triple glaze can have a lower visible light transmittance. meaning less light will come in . The whole point of a window in my opinion is for natural light. But you can decided what is important to you. I think the window install is more important. i don't think glass technology is there yet. Unfortunately with a double glaze, they all pretty much converge to the same U factor. +- a few 100th's of a point. Also do not get triple pane in a renovation product. make sure its down to the rough opening and a company that will fully flash the product, you can have perfect insulated glass, but if your RO is not sealed properly you will get drafts and undo all your extra cost for the tripple pane package.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thanks for the answer. In general, it is true, but not a rule, I guess. I would say: it depends ;) 3-pane is often great also in warm areas. But the main factor is the price of course.
Would you review the Marvin Contemporary Windows and Doors? We are building our home in Medina, Minnesota. Please provide more information on energy efficiency as you compare these two brands. Thanks!
Thank you for watching and for your comment. I do not have any plans of reviewing this product for about 6 more months. In the meantime, I believe you can find some great information about these products on their websites. I do know that all Marvin products that I've ever experienced have been really good and have been well designed.
There are quite a few more difference than he mentions , warranty ( Marvin has fade written in their warranty for 20 years ) plus the 2605 finish is standard on Marvin not the 2604 . Notice on the interior lower corners of the Marvin WIndow you can see the composite corners with silicone injection so NO wood touches together ( biggest problem with wood windows is the lower corners . It not wood butt together with just a bead of silicone. Also in the warranty if you have a glass issue you get a whole brand new sash finished as purchased with the sdls applied. If it's not a one piece one piece sash and its glass stops on the interior they just ship a chunk of glass to you local dealer for you to install. Delaminating SDls isnt fun
My Mother had all Andersen 400 Casement fixed and swing out picture windows installed in her home and not replacements! She went all the way. And her front Windows are 24 years old and not one drop of rain got inside on the wood. We do need to re stain varnish as the sun fades all wood. Her side windows are 14 years old and just fine. So Her opinion is Anderson are one of the best with the 400 series. I agree. I am working on replacing all of my windows in my newer home as I have said Pella had that class action lawsuit against them and it is costing me a fortune. So I am going to go with either Anderson like my moms or Marvin all fiberglass. There are many good smaller companies that have good windows also. It’s just hard to find the ratings on them. So I am still looking but I’m leaning heavily to these two window companies because I think they are the best as far as being well known and made . And some thing else here that most people don’t know. When we were kids back in the 70s our parents installed a 1000 foot new home addition for more room. The Carpenter was Amish and mother said “I want the best windows for insulation and that will last. So at that time the Carpenter went and bought all Wicks Windows and I never seen anything like it because they were thermal pane and the two pieces of glass put together were an inch thick! She had all beautiful Casement and fixed picture windows. Those were very warm and we never got cold in the winter time so there’s ignorance about the good windows of the 70s because there were good windows. And get this…… Those windows were installed in 1974 and they lasted until 2008! That’s when she decided to replace the new addition windows and she had already done the old addition windows years before as I mentioned above. Now for a window to last that many years that’s pretty darn good. And those windows 100 years ago had better trees and better wood as today they grow the trees so fast and the wood just isn’t as good so that’s part of the problem. I guess I’m leaning more towards the fiberglass window from what I’m saying here.
On the Marvins, what if you get black exterior and white interior, how do they handle the color in the jam liners and tracks? Will some of the liners / tracks be white on the outside or black on the inside?
Hi Jeff . Thank you for all the great videos. My I am having a really hard time deciding which windows and doors to go with. I am located in southern california. I wanted to see what your take on these window and doors. Price quality lead time . Andersen 100 Pella impervia Marvin essential Winsdor pinnacle
Marvin Essential is the best one on your list. I'd avoid the 100 series. I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Wow, all your videos are so informational! Thank you for posting these. We live in the Pacific Northwest so cannot go to your showroom :( We are completely replacing all the windows in our house as part of a major remodel. I have experience with Marvin Clad Ultimate. What are your thoughts on smaller brand options that are perhaps at a lower price point but still provide outstanding quality and longevity? Since we get so much rain here during the Winter months, durability is key. I saw one poster ask about Windsor Pinnacle. My architect likes Weather Shield Vue collection. Thank you!
I like WeatherShield but think that Windsor or Sierra Pacific would be better options for you. You should at least consider them. If your builder has a relationship with a particular brand, that should be a part of your equation also. That can be very helpful if you run into issues.
Aha, you will regret saying I could ask you questions. First, have you ever heard of Alside and Polaris windows. They might just be northern companies. Next, this is technical. What are the differences in foam v metal between the windows? Is one really better than the other? We are purchasing windows for the house I grew up in and my son is moving in. I want to make sure that we have good windows for him. On a personal note, my son roomed with one of the Marvin window children, thank you tom
Tom, thank you for watching and your question. I always welcome your question and I will try my best to be of help. I am familiar with the all side window but do not know much at all about Polaris. If it is built in Minnesota, as I suspect it is, it should do great and a cold weather environment. Having foam in a window frame is great. However, if a window needs metal reinforcement in order for it to be strong, then metal would be better than foam.
Marvin also seem to have a single hung option in its ultimate collection. Do you think the single hung ultimate window will fare better than the double hung ultimate window with regards to air insulation in the long run?
Great video. We are building a house along the Jersey shore. We are trying to decide on Andersen A series and Marvin Essential/Elevate. We will be doing Black windows. Not sure if the Marvin is worth the increase cost. Our builder is pushing Andersen because he is more accustom to installing Andersen. What would you do?
I'd have to lean toward the Andersen. Have you looked at the Andersen E Series? I like it better than both of those products. Congratulations on your new home!
I just installed A series in my total Jersey Shore renovation. I actually installed them. I don't think you can go wrong with Andersen. We are in Ocean City NJ. Curious where are you and how is the house coming along?
Marvin can do custom colors & custom extruded moldings & trim, depending on quantity. That's why you see Marvin on so many historic renovations. Also note that Marvin has unlimited grill patterns as they will do custom patterns. Standard options aside, I go Marvin all day every day. Fit and Finish is untouchable.
Since we are a retrofit company, we rarely install any Bi-Fold doors. They typically are done during new construction because they are too hung and need special care for making sure the header and the floor are within 1/8" of deflection. However, I have seen the Marvin Bi-Fold door and it is a top shelf product. Just so you know, a Bi-Fold door offers the least amount of glass space on a door. If you are wanting a great view to the outdoors, I'd suggest a sliding door instead.
@@HoustonWindowExperts thanks for the imput we are building a new house so we were window shopping ....(pun intended ) We have about 20 ft span of glass with 18ft Hight to fill .... so we would like to see if we can get 10ft H sliders or bi-folds to open this area as much as possible....weather permitting Any recommendations???? THANKS in advance Jim
Great video. What would you recommend for somewhere with high humidity and high chance of hurricane 2 a year? I’m looking for a great quality window that will not leak.
Houston Window Experts it would be interesting to see a comparison between say Jeld Wen USA and Jeld Wen Uk ua-cam.com/video/f9HhV7_KJGg/v-deo.html. Looks like the European version has better internals.
Great details, thank you! From what I learned from you .. Marvin is the clear winner .. superior engineering, and creativity .. how many people are shopping for pink windows? Let's keep it real :)
How would you rank Windsor Pinnacle against these windows? I watched your video on Pinnacle and they seem to have some similar features and looks and they seem like a good product. But pricing I've seen so far on Windsor seems significantly cheaper than these so I'm wondering why such a difference. In terms of construction, function and quality are these 2 lines really better and worth the additional cost over Pinnacle or am I paying for a brand? Or are these 2 really in a different league? Thanks for the videos BTW they are really helpful! Cheers from Missouri!
Nicholas, the Windsor Pinnacle is not any less of a product in my opinion. You will pay more for the big-name brands. Marvin is the best of the three but I'd take the Windsor over Andersen.
@@HoustonWindowExperts I wish I could believe that but I can’t find that many ratings and when I do carpenters complain about Windsor. I researched the Windsor and like the Pinnacle clad revive as they have so many choices and not too much cheaper than Marvin or Andersen which are my favorites. Actually the hinged double Windsor patio door top of the line is almost as much as The other two. So I just don’t know what to think. I wAs informed Windsor is out 18 weeks.
This is obviously a suggestive topic. I will say that in general, the more modern a home is, the fewer grids it will have. Some ultra modern homes will have no grids whereas some modern homes will have a few grids. A very traditional house will have more grigs. I would suggest visiting Houzz to get some ideas of what you like.
Something about Anderen not lot talk about is - they are far more available than Marvin. There are what I call "Marvin Dead Zones". Where you can't buy product only and go with your on installed. We have one place here that sells Marvin and they make you use them to install or they won't order the window. Same in our state capital. One place that does same thing. But every lumber yard and builder resource lets you buy Andersen Product Only.
Who has a decent passthrough window at a resonable cost. I was looking at the andersen liftglide but they want $7-9k. WAY to much. I just want a simple slide to pass through from the interior kitchen to the exterior kitchen. The window is 59" square.
That doesn't seem like a very reasonable price at all. Are you dealing with Renewal by Andersen? They are way overpriced for the products you could get somewhere else for a lot less. I would look for a local independent window tempany to give you some options. If you need help finding a great window company near you, check out JeffsList.com
Hi! Do you think Kolbe Vs Marvin . I am looking for very large windows in PA.My builder is suggesting Kolbe . Which will be more economical . contemporary style.
One thing not mentioned. Truly apples to apples the Andersen would need to be upgraded to the Kynar exterior finish. The longevity and color retention is dramatically better with kynar and is what makes the cost higher. Also when you get into shapes and etc the Marvin fit and finish is very superior. Same with the grilles. Marvin can do absolutely anything and the joints are coped which makes them tight. Literally the difference between a Chevy and a Mercedes
Are you able to provide any advice on a Harvey window? I do believe they were bought out by another company but still sell Harvey windows. I cannot find enough information that helps me to understand if this is an inferior window
I'm sorry, I've never heard of them. It may be a terrific window, but I would do a lot of research before I bought one. If you can buy a well-known brand for about the same cost, that might be your best option. I cannot tell you how many times I've gone to somebody's house who had windows that were failing but the manufacturer was no longer in business.
Your videos are extremely helpful, but unfortunately we live too far away to shop there! We're currently gathering quotes to replace 32 windows on a house we built 27 years ago. We've received quotes for the Andersen Renewal Fibrex insert option, and Marvin's Ultimate aluminum clad; both are double hung windows. A major obstacle is not having adequate showrooms to compare our options all at once. Also, these companies are giving confusing information between inserts and full tear outs. All of our sills, frames, and trim work are in good shape, so we shouldn't have to pay for full tear outs, but we also don't want to lose glass or have bulky frames for an insert. The Marvin dealer ONLY wants to do full tear out. Plus, I've read where non-insert windows (like the Marvin Ultimate) shouldn't be used for replacement because the attached fins won't allow a weather-tight seal...Yet the dealer is telling me we can totally use it! What's the truth?? On the other hand, the Andersen Fibrex insert option could look bulky, and we'd be losing some glass; but their quote is the SAME as the full tear out for the Martin window ($50K for both quotes--EEK! )! Additionally, the Andersen Renewal sales rep is using similar sales tactics seen in one of your other videos- 0% financing, 5 years SAC, etc...The Marvin Ultimate window is BY FAR my favorite because it's sleek appearance-hidden tilt-latches, auto-lock, and easy push button sash-lock opening; but I don't want to use the wrong window even though I love it! Can you please share your expertise on using the Marvin Ultimate as an insert? Or, if you think we'd best benefit from a completely different window option? Thank you very much in advance!
Your frame may be good but how well is it sealed to the structure. Renewal was a company bought by Andersen and their prices are I think Excessive and I am not one Not to pay for value. Case in point same price for the Marvin "New Construction" window. I am an Andersen Guy and I advise you to get the Marvin. Done right a full tear out is always better than a replacement. Especially for the same cost. Good luck.
Personally, I'm a big fan of fiberglass windows. It's a durable, strong, material that's going to stand the test of time. Aesthetically, they tend to fit more of a contemporary/transitional style.
I feel like these are both superior in quality to the Siteline. Jeld-Wen makes some good products but it does tend to target the production builder/multi-family market
I think that is going to depend on the surrounding area that you would attach the storm window to. I know that they do not make a storm window for this product specifically but I believe you can use anyone's product as long as it mounts somewhere other than the window frame. Drilling a hole into the window frame will void your warranty on the frame.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Been binging on your vids trying to learn as much as possible. Going to be starting a new construction build in southern Kentucky in the spring of 2022 and would appreciate any input you'd be willing to offer. I'm looking at the Anderson 100 series and want 4 custom sized windows (4'x6') black inside and out. Would you recommend recessing the windows a half inch to allow for a storm window or should I pursue a different brand? Thank you.
Since we don't use storm windows where I'm at I feel like I'm under qualified to answer that question. I do know that you need to put the window where it belongs. The nailing fin on the window will determine where the window sits. Once you've done that I would decide on what steps need to be taken to make the storm window fit.
They are definitely expensive. I would say they are at least $1,500 on average. The price will vary based on the size, the material, the grids, and the glass.
I apologize that I somehow overlooked your question. Please understand that those two products are not similar in many ways at all. The 400 series is going to have wood on it whereas the elevate series does not. One is very traditional looking and the other is more contemporary. As far as materials are concerned, the fiberglass is going to be much more durable and stronger than the 400 series. I hope that answers your question.
Wow Great video in explaining the difference in these two windows. If you know a company that installs windows and doors In Asheville North Carolina. I Would love to receive informtion. Thank you for your videos
I would have to build a sample in the software program to give you the exact information. However, to my best recollection they are identical on their basic glass package. With both products you can order a higher rating if you wanted to.
@@HoustonWindowExperts @Houston Window Experts Thank you so much appreciate it. Which models are STC rated windows for Marvin and Anderson.? I wanted Amesco serenity as you had made a video about that brand, but they don't have it in Florida. Milgard quiteline also not available here. Noise reduction is my main goal, please give me your recommendation. Thanks again.
Any brand should be able to offer higher STC ratings. You'll have to ask for it. The good windows are all using Cardinal glass so it should be apples to apples.
@@Astracygnus Marvin full frame double hungs have a storm/screen combo option that integrates into the frame. And has been tested in lab conditions to add approx 7 STC points. You can also add dissimilar glass sizes to this storm combo and bump up another 3 before getting into the more expensive laminated glass options. So probably getting you around 37 STC points vs a 27-28 out of box standard configuration.
Can you do a video on window brands that have built in shades? Does Marvin or Anderson offer this in their windows and doors? Wish we had a supplier like you here in the SF Bay Area (California)! Love the videos, keep it up!
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thank you Jeff! I also wonder what you've seen as far as how your customers (esp. new construction) have done window shades if they did not elect for any of the ones that are built in. When we did our renovation, we didn't plan ahead for it, and we ended up mounting our roller shades on top of our window casing and covered up most of the beautiful smooth pine casing we paid for!
We know a local shade/blind/shutter company that we refer people to. They are great at that part of the project. Some roller blinds are very low profile and only take up about 1.5".
I’ve worked for both Andersen and Marvin and love both companies. However I’d say based on this video I’d choose Marvin. Even though Andersen won more categories those categories revolved around wood/color and grid options that almost nobody benefits from. In six years of selling windows I can count on one hand the number of people willing to pay for a pre stained hardwood or a gothic grill pattern. The categories that Marvin wins on are much more likely to benefit the average homeowner. People considering these products are rarely worried about a 10% delta and just want the right product. I find giving Andersen a price category win irrelevant considering the demographics of the people considering them.
I agree completely! Even though Andersen's has more options, Marvin has awesome features Andersen's doesn't have. In your opinion, can you clarify if the Marvin Ultimate can be used as a replacement window (insert) and still have a superior weather-tight seal?
Marvin beats them easily. Their fiberglass is much stronger than Andersens. Marvin has butt joints which beat mitered like Andersen or Pella. Marvin uses Thick quarter thickness for their aluminum Ultimate window which beats Andersen and roll formed Pella which will rot and has rotted on Pella aluminum clad wood. I chose Marvin. They are the best.
Isn't 2605 Finish better performing than 2604? I would think the window company with 2605 wins the exterior finish category. It seems your category winners are based on number of options vs the quality of those options.
Either one of these brands is an excellent product and you would be very happy. If it comes to options, Andersen will win. I do think the Marvin products are superior in every way to most of the brands available in the usa. Please note, you will pay more money.
after doing hours of research, here are my rankings, not considering price, just quality, love to hear comments on maybe a brand i missed, I'm on the east coast, this is general rule of thumb: BROSCO (but that's only wood, for new construction) Windsor Pella Marvin Andersen everything else
Why don't all high-end window brands figure out how to have interior screens so the screens do not get as dirty and it is much easier to keep the exterior of the windows clean? They do this in England. Window cleaners in England service their clients every month or two and they do not need to remove exterior screens to clean the exterior of the windows.
Then you put a European window in between and it smokes them at half the price. Of course you need to pay for shipping from Europe but if you have a 20-plus windows order you may still get away 25-30% lower.
I almost went with Marvin windows until I compared them with Oknoplast windows. Oknoplast makes a far superior product and it ended up costing less than Marvin.
@@HoustonWindowExperts that might be true for the US except for California and Canada as far as I know. I like the tilt and turn windows for their security and ease of operation. To me american windows, I don't care how well they are built are not burglar safe. I will check what the name is of the company in California and if you are interested I will let you know.
Hate to say this but Andersons are not worth the money. I inherited their casement windows and have had every issue from cranks falling apart to plastic muntons popping out and crumbling. Yes, the beveled frame is pretty but thats about it. When they came out for service all they wanted to do was sell me new windows over $2,000 apiece! Everyone I know that has Marvin has had no complaints in years because they hold up.
The window is not nearly as important as the installation. Period! You get the wrong guys installing Marvin or Anderson and there will be trouble. Don't forget folks glass is a conductor not an insulator.
Anderson is a great marketing company but an average manufacturer. Cheap to be more specific. They are definitely not a premium quality manufacturer by any stretch of the imagination. If you want the best quality buy Loewen.
I have been a professional window cleaner for 11 years and Marvin windows would be my brand of choice if I was buying windows for my self.
Thanks for sharing
my wife and I are building a house and getting deep in windows and just found your channel. Thank you!

Hey Jeff have you heard anything about Kolbe Windows & Doors? They’re out of Wisconsin. They seem to be on par with Marvin and Pella Quality…
They are ok. I prefer Infinity or Marvin.
Marvin offers incredible windows built with love.
Have you done a review of the Marvin Essentials and the rest of the Marvin line head to head. Like the Ultrex but is a good window long term? Thanks for the help
I was just wondering that too!
Coming soon.
Great video, very informative. Anderson has more options, but Marvin seems like the superior product.
I would tend to agree.
WOW! That's crazy
Huge difference, sounds incredible. Both quotes had the same window parameters?
not same company
Jeff, my wife and are loving your channel!! For the past several months we have been trying to determine the outside color scheme for our house and pairing that scheme with the right window.
While I live in Cleveland, Ohio that was the best information I have gotten. Now to find if they both make canopy windows. Thank you
Thank you for watching
I would love to see a Pella, Anderson and Marvin comparison video for top of the line casement windows. 🙏🙏🙏
I'll add that to the list
@@HoustonWindowExperts Hi, that`s interesting subject. Why triple pane don't perform as well as a double pane window?
In a southern climate that is true. In a cold climate the triple pane is better.
Would love a comparison of the their best selling Andersen 400 Series against Marvin Elevate.
Thank you for your comment. It's hard to find the old growth wood like that. The best brand for that would be Windsor windows.
Can you do a comparison of the Marvin Elevate vs the comparable Andersen line?
Great idea.
@@HoustonWindowExperts yes please :)

On the Marvins, what if you get black exterior and white interior, how do they handle the color in the jam liners and tracks? Will some of the liners / tracks be white on the outside or black on the inside?
Last time I checked, there was still a white track on an all black window. I'll have to confirm.
We are planning to replace the Marvin sliding windows that were placed back in the mid 1980's. What would you recommend?
Marvin is still a great choice and they have improved since then. I would take a hard look at the Windsor Pinnacle product as well.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thank you. Does Windsor make an aluminum capped version as well?
Yes. That's the Pinnacle Series
Hi Jeff . Thank you for all the great videos.
My I am having a really hard time deciding which windows and doors to go with. I am located in southern california. I wanted to see what your take on these window and doors. Price quality lead time .
Andersen 100
Pella impervia
Marvin essential
Winsdor pinnacle
Do you recommend Marvin for impact windows? My local Marvin installer gets bad revies but I've heard good things about their windows and doors.
The installer is the most important part of a window project.
Did you ever compare the Marvin Infinity line with the similar Anderson line ??
Keith, Marvin Infinity is a fiberglass product. Andersen doesn't offer a true fiberglass window. Are you referring to their Fibrex windows?
For a new build that calls for multiple sliding patio doors--how does the Marvin sliding doors compare to the Andersen sliding doors?
They're nicer quality.
I wonder if Andersen still does the crank out windows? I’ve had them all around the house since we built it 35 years ago.
Yes, they sure do
Marvin also seem to have a single hung option in its ultimate collection. Do you think the single hung ultimate window will fare better than the double hung ultimate window with regards to air insulation in the long run?
Yes, you are correct. The fewer moving parts you have on a window, the more efficient it will be.
Thank you for doing the videos. Wish you were closer to me, nothing like your store where I'm at. These videos are very helpful to me. Thanks again.

You should mention performance, U value, DP ratings
Good point
Have you had experience with thw Marvin bi fold 10ft folding doors ????
Can you do a review on this or provide some imput....
😊 thanks
Since we are a retrofit company, we rarely install any Bi-Fold doors. They typically are done during new construction because they are too hung and need special care for making sure the header and the floor are within 1/8" of deflection.
However, I have seen the Marvin Bi-Fold door and it is a top shelf product.
Just so you know, a Bi-Fold door offers the least amount of glass space on a door. If you are wanting a great view to the outdoors, I'd suggest a sliding door instead.

Dear h
What is the u value and sound insulation value for these windows, please?
Same as Windsor.
In your opinion do home windows look better and modern without grids?
This is obviously a suggestive topic. I will say that in general, the more modern a home is, the fewer grids it will have. Some ultra modern homes will have no grids whereas some modern homes will have a few grids. A very traditional house will have more grigs.
I would suggest visiting Houzz to get some ideas of what you like.

I Use to sell a lot of the Marvin Tilt Pac, a sash replacement great product

Kolbe wins over Andersen in my opinion.
@@HoustonWindowExperts thank you
One thing not mentioned.
Is Pella ever compared to Marvin?
I have not done a comparison video on those two products yet. I would have to say that they are both very well made and almost equally matched.

Good luck.
@@lrc87290 thank you! After much study and comparison, I agree with you and think we will go with Marvin!
What is your opinion of fiberglass windows? I'm considering Marvin's Integrity windows.
Personally, I'm a big fan of fiberglass windows. It's a durable, strong, material that's going to stand the test of time. Aesthetically, they tend to fit more of a contemporary/transitional style.
How you would compare these brands to Jeld Wen siteline?
I feel like these are both superior in quality to the Siteline. Jeld-Wen makes some good products but it does tend to target the production builder/multi-family market
Will the Anderson 100 series accept a storm window?
I think that is going to depend on the surrounding area that you would attach the storm window to. I know that they do not make a storm window for this product specifically but I believe you can use anyone's product as long as it mounts somewhere other than the window frame. Drilling a hole into the window frame will void your warranty on the frame.

Been binging on your vids trying to learn as much as possible.

The price will vary based on the size, the material, the grids, and the glass.
andseron 400 or marvin elevate?and why?
I apologize that I somehow overlooked your question. Please understand that those two products are not similar in many ways at all. The 400 series is going to have wood on it whereas the elevate series does not. One is very traditional looking and the other is more contemporary. As far as materials are concerned, the fiberglass is going to be much more durable and stronger than the 400 series. I hope that answers your question.

@@Momshelper47 I can confirm and yes they do

Pella has a spoon lock for reserve
Marvin beats them easily. Their fiberglass is much stronger than Andersens. Marvin has butt joints which beat mitered like Andersen or Pella. Marvin uses Thick quarter thickness for their aluminum Ultimate window which beats Andersen and roll formed Pella which will rot and has rotted on Pella aluminum clad wood. I chose Marvin. They are the best.
Good call!
If you are cheap like me the Andersen is in the sweet spot. If you want the best then you get to pay for it.

Why don't all high-end window brands figure out how to have interior screens so the screens do not get as dirty and it is much easier to keep the exterior of the windows clean? They do this in England. Window cleaners in England service their clients every month or two and they do not need to remove exterior screens to clean the exterior of the windows.
I guess they need to pay a visit to Europe.
