I replaced some windows by myself for the first-time last fall. I was absolutely blown away by how easy they come out or maybe I should say how little was holding them in. Now I want to do them all just for peace of mind!
WDYM?! Don't forget Stephanie's help! 8:05. Then she saved the job with that screech alerting the Demons.14:14. Followed by the nearly impossible swinging of that massive Titanium lined bullet proof glass sliding dungeon door. With the Biblically horrifying release of the minions to Destroy & Conquer the new territory. I now know what Paul saw and recorded in Revelations... The 4 horsemen are upon us. CHRIST HAS BEGUN BREAKING THE SEALS. REPENT! JESUS LOVES YOU.
I know it's a nit, but the video ignored how the new header was aligned with and joined to the stud ends above the window opening. Did they cut the original load-bearing stud at exactly the right place so that each of the old studs hit the top of the new header? Were the bottom of those studs screwed or nailed into the top of the new header? I know these guys are professionals, but I've done enough work like this to wonder whether installing that header was really as easy as the video made it seem.
What about doing the opposite? Turning a sliding glass door (or two of them) into smaller windows? I know it's a similar process, just would like to see it done.
I have no idea how they can wear safety glasses and a dust mask at the same time without the glasses fogging up in about 10 seconds. I've tried every kind of anti fog glasses, all the sprays and wipes. Nothing works. I think its because anti fog coatings just dont like to stick to plastic. I've even tried swimming goggles and the moisture from my eyes fogs them up!
only suggestion, cover everything in plastic or create boxed in separate working area dust will be on furniture and all items leaving any cleaning to be done by customer is -1 point, 9/10
I love how the contractor shows up, looks at the job, and gets right to work. No measuring, no checking for structural issues, no permits. This show makes it look like everything happens really quick.
I know side projects become frustrating for sure when you do them. A 3-4 day job here was wrapped up in 15 minutes. Then you go to do it, make mistakes, forget something from the hardware store, etc. It gets irritating when yours isn't as fast, lol.
Obviously there was a lot of prior planning and prep. Building permit had been issued and slider of course wasn't chosen and picked up on day of install let alone all the misc supplies Nathan wouldn't necessarily have off hand. Header size is typically determined by a structural engineer at time of building permit application and review... The install was quick but that happens because of his experience and proper planning. A lot of detail can't be shown due to video time constraints. Always good work from the TOH team. Great to see Nathan a part of the group, Mark, and Jen with sadly our long time TOH experts nearing retirement.
I specifically noticed how there was no measuring and marking. That’s a time consuming part of any project. Not to mention shlepping and moving stuff. I was also cringing that they didn’t move that china cabinet to reduce risk and create space.
My only gripe is why is she wearing a dress and working on the house? My wife and I remodeled a house in our 20’s during the pandemic and sold it. I taught her to run a saw, both circular and miter, nail gun, lay flooring, cut trim, set toilets, run water lines and HVAC and she loved every minute of it. But she wore pants and PPE. Otherwise great job guys. Love TOH. My philosophy is to teach her enough that if I were gone tomorrow she wouldn’t need me.
Were you on TV too? WDYM?!? She obviously helped at 8:05. I think this lady wanted to make sure she looked A1 so she could brag about it later. Like when ppl come by, "We put that door in ourselves on this TV show." Then proceed to watch this YT video with them lol. I doubt it was meant for efficiency and safety purposes like your wife was more concerned about. Are you 100% sure your wife wouldn't also get dolled up for the camera given the same circumstance? If not then good for you, she thinks logically and isn't worried about outside influences in the marriage lol.
TOH is one of the all time best shows imo. Zero drama goes a looooong way with me
I can't believe how young Tom looks!
His name is Nathan.
😂
Hahha
@@Its_crazyadamlaare you sure

Wish they showed the trim and bringing the siding into the new area. Really valuable areas of waterproofing the sides and top skipped right over.

it's forces beneath our consciousness that holds these window in place.
no wiring inside the wall underneath the window?
Pretty darn convenient that they have replacement windows.
Wow, what a project. So many lessons demonstrated. Thanks very much to the fine family who had the idea.
Door and deck fit nicely with the house. Nice job Nathan and mark.

Wondering why he did not support the second floor load when the old framing was being taken out.
Nathan getting the big projects. Great work!
As always, great job. Great opportunity to make that deck a bit bigger. Although, it is easy for me to say I didn't pay for it...
Excellent job. Turned out to be a beautiful job and a great addition to the house. 👏
Thought this was a video about Boeing from the title
I think that's the one titled "How to trip out a door. Hands Free!"
Beautiful job. The kids are adorable.
Amazing! First time seeing the PVC around the treated wood. ✌🏽❤️
Great job, Nathan and family.
super clean look, nice
Everyone seems to always skip some of the details around the door waterproofing and/or trim work.

Just play the video in reverse.

Exelente trabajo en familia! Gracias por compartir conocimientos😊
What else do we need to do if the electrical socket is right under that window?
What was supporting the roof when there was no header installed?

If there was electical, how much harder would it be?
Great work, Nathan!
Surprised no temp supports when he cut that opening before the header was fully installed.
Caught me by surprise too
There were no headers originally, so removing the windows did not change any load bearing. The addition of the header was an upgrade.
With balloon type construction there are no need for headers
@@car45racing thank you for clarifying.
@@larryc8568 thank you for the info
NICE, REALLY NICE
What is carrying the point loads of the newly positioned Jack studs? Also, how was the header size calculated?
with a formula
Great work again
How much would this cost?
Why not a larger decl. Would have been perfect for that space.
the sliders didn't have a screen?
That homeowner lady is gonna tell everyone at the cocktail party:"I picked up a hammer and help build this house" 😅
well, she did
Lol. FrFr. She more than did her share esp at 8:06 😂
Get up, c'mon get down with the thickness!!
Hi where are you’re location
he makes a better door than a window
Who covers cedar with vynil siding ahah
Did you check for lead on the existing paint?
Ok Karen
Only required for homes built after 1978. That house looked pretty new, so likely not required.
@@josephewing80 what year was this house built?
@@josephewing80 looks like before 1978, looks like planks were used instead of plywood for outside walls.
@@mcarroll598 stone foundation, plank under siding, balloon frame, is all pre 1950. (and so was that wallpaper)
I am surprised at the big beautiful houses that Americans have. Here in canada we have shoe boxes with several families renting one shoe box.
I've never seen a house without a backdoor, very odd.
Maybe they turned a door into a window a different time.
Super old house and maybe didn't always have a nice back yard.
Where is Thom?
Why wasn't there any back door to begin with? Weird.

Too bad they couldn't put in on the rear, the flow would have been even better.
I don't like PVC. The feel with wood and aluminium is better. The hole house is plastic. It will last for shure 😅

Not great camera work. Way too many times where I thought would be nice to see the work that's going on instead of the workers.
Why would they allow her to wear that outfit and no gloves?
"allow" her???
Tom Silva he is not. Nothing against Nathan's skills, but he just lacks Tom's charisma.
That's got to be a first. No knowledgeable explanations or advice from the craftsman. Not what I expected.
Jesus what a miserable homeowner. They got TOH to do their project, and it looks like he's getting teeth pulled the whole time.
it wasn't his idea
