The Saint Nikolaus (santa claus) is a rather new tradition in sweden, but we have older traditions and stories about Tomtar (Jultomten = santa claus, tomtar is plural) Tomtar is both good and bad, they protect your farm if you please them but if you anger them they spread diseases, they are a part of our folklore, and historically its the julbock (christmas goat) that dilevered christmas presents in sweden, and swedish speaking parts of Finland, and I think norway aswell. And lucia is origenaly from the catholic faith but when we became protestants around year 1500 saints somewhat lost its meanings and during thw middleage the Lucia day was the start of the winter fast, and sense arleast 1764 it started to turn in too what it is today, And why should we keep to Chatolic practises when we arn't Chatolic.
OH and and the nordic Jultomten do not have raindeers and elvs, he got tomtenissar i cant translate that becuse when I look it up it translate wrongly becuse its not a elf, winter solstice have been a celebrations in the North far longer then christianity has been here, so its not only based to christian values its a mix of pagan, christian and modern Consumerism.
