As someone who no longer Celebrates Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc. I have the utmost respect for this guy and the way he presents an argument. Clear, educated, and without judgement. I will continue not to partake because I believe the over commercialization of the holiday and materialistic stress that everyone puts on themselves to make everything perfect for a day we are not even instructed to celebrate is enough without the pagan aspect to keep me from it. Not to mention Christmas in most peoples homes isn't about Jesus. He may get an honerable mention and possibly even a 5 minute nativity story time but then its right back into the materialism. I dont judge those who do, never have. I dont belive its salvation dependent but I feel convicted to not take part in it so I wont. Love your channel, excellent advocate for our savior! God bless.

So encouraging. Thanks for sharing. 😊 This is further confirmation of what the Lord began to teach me last winter. I was raised in a Christian family where we celebrated Christmas each year in the traditional Christian way. My parents were born again and I was not yet at the time. In my later teens/early 20s I began to follow the pagan ways of Wicca and I celebrated Yule. I never celebrated Saturnalia. There are many branches of Paganism. The Lord saved me at the age of 26 2004 and as a babe in Christ I began to learn about the so called paganism of Christmas. I wasn't yet mature or strong enough to handle what I was learning about it and my conscience was still weak and growing but over time the Lord began to liberate me and teach me about the conscience through scriptures such.as the one you mentioned in Colossians. Ultimately we as Christians are commanded and surely desire to worship our Lord and Saviour every single day including on days such as Christmas day. His birth, death and resurrection are significant every day of our lives so yes I will celebrate my Lord and Saviour every day including on Christmas day and use it as a spring board for the gospel to share Christ with my neighbours and friends that by the means of His grace and mercy the Lord may save some.

    • @SMHunt

With the way that our nation is going, obviously unbelievers and atheists are not celebrating Jesus and completely miss the point. That shouldn't be a surprise at ALL, false churches in general are going in the same direction. But that doesn't mean that all christians are going down that path, nor does it mean that there are people who need to stop celebrating it because of what atheists/ANYONE outside the kingdom of God are doing, NOR does it mean that you are loved by God any less or any more AS a believer if you choose to celebrate Christ's birth on December 25 or not. The Scriptures do not condemn you for celebrating Christ's birth on 12/25, nor does it condemn you for not celebrating it. If you don't want to celebrate His birth that's you, but cannot be pushed on every Christian. That's legalism.

Just kidding. I was raised early in the Swiss/German tradition of Christmas in Switzerland when I lived there as a very young boy and loved it. Later, when we returned to the US and I grew up with a family of my own, I became convinced that it was a coopted celebration of pagan origins. To me, this was a personal conviction of little actual consequence to my life in Christ and certainly not an issue over which to break fellowship. Now I've come back to a cultural acceptance of it as a celebration, but not a matter of "doctrine either way.

The Solar Feast of Natalis Invicti
The Catholic Encyclopedia explains that the solar feast of Natalis Invicti, also known as the “Birthday of the Unconquered Sun,” was a ancient Roman festival celebrated on December 25th. This festival was dedicated to the sun god Sol Invictus, and it marked the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year.
History of Natalis Invicti: The festival of Natalis Invicti was introduced in the 3rd century AD by the Roman Emperor Aurelian, who wanted to promote the worship of Sol Invictus as a unifying force for the Roman Empire. The festival was celebrated with rituals, sacrifices, and gift-giving, and it was seen as a time of renewal and rebirth.
Connection to Christmas: The Catholic Encyclopedia notes that the early Christian church chose December 25th as the date for Christmas, which coincided with the existing festival of Natalis Invicti. This was likely done to co-opt the existing pagan festival and to make it easier for pagans to convert to Christianity.
Influence on Christmas Traditions: The festival of Natalis Invicti had a significant influence on the development of Christmas traditions. Many of the customs and rituals associated with Christmas, such as the use of evergreen trees, holly, and mistletoe, have their roots in ancient pagan festivals like Natalis Invicti.
Solar Imagery in Christian Art: The solar imagery associated with Natalis Invicti also found its way into Christian art and symbolism. For example, the sun is often depicted as a symbol of Christ, and the use of solar imagery in Christian art and architecture is a testament to the enduring influence of ancient pagan festivals like Natalis Invicti.
    Key Dates
274 AD: The Roman Emperor Aurelian introduces the festival of Natalis Invicti on December 25th.
336 AD: The early Christian church chooses December 25th as the date for Christmas, coinciding with the existing festival of Natalis Invicti.
4th century AD: The festival of Natalis Invicti is gradually replaced by Christmas, but many of its customs and rituals are incorporated into the new holiday

While correlation is not causation, tradition is not justification in the same sense. It does not follow that because one can find a practice amongst Christians, that it is biblically prescribed or has its origins in such. Now Paul speaks of freedoms regarding culturally celebrated events by way of saying do not let someone judge you regarding these things (Col 2:16). Without biblical prescription I would argue that people are free to celebrate but it ought not have its formal weight that the church lays upon it. The prescription is communion and to proclaim Christ until He comes.
Furthermore, it says something of the Christian culture that the greatest church attendance happens on Easter and Christmas. This is not an argument against these celebrations but it has the appearance that Jesus's birth and death/resurrection are the most significant moments of His incarnation. It is no surprise that the western church is struggling in its holiness when it seems to neglect Christ for everything in between his birth and resurrection and every subsequent day. Again, Paul says we will be saved by his life (Romans 5:10).
It is for these reasons that I will hold some reservations toward Christmas in particular and seek to celebrate each day in thanksgiving and worship and service, imperfectly so. The temptation to be satisfied with elevating one day over many others seems indicative of the 6 day secular life and 1 day sacred life phenomenon in the west and in the U.S. in particular.

Christian’s were only recently and they were not believers of Christ. Only when they converted to Christ they continued their practices which now involved Christ.
This is a gospel apostle Paul warned us! Christmas is not of God. As Paul said, be a man or an angel coming with a different gospel listen not to it!
Be that it is not another gospel but one! One gospel man have corrupted and perverted.
God told his people in the Old Testament, do not take a tree and decorate it with gold and silver for it is a sin! God left this command thousand of years ago! Be careful! Jesus gave no importance to his birth and commanded it not to be celebrated.

The coincidence that the Birth of Christ matches exactly the time where the day starts to become bigger than the night after the winter solstice is suspicious. In Bulgaria we also celebrate this day of the new born sun as Млада Бога - Young God and it starts from December 22nd till December 24th which is Christmas Eve. December 21st - the day of the winter solstice we call Еднажден - The Zero Day or Тhe one day in literal translation, which solve the problem with the accuracy of the calendar because it is not included. Our Bulgarian Orthodox Church has changed Еднажден to Игнажден - Saint Ignatius of Antioch`s day which if you look closer is similar in Cyrillic alphabet. You can check our Old Bulgarian Calendar which is considered the most accurate in the world and approved by UNESCO and it has these holidays in it which are astronomical holidays and they match exactly the Christian holidays. All accommodation was booked for the feast - feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot in Hebrew.
Being the perfect, unblemished Lamb of God he would have been born when the lambs were.

Hebrews 5 and 6 says that we need to return to the Oracles of God...

I appreciate you input on a lot of the aspects of Christmas, and I agree with much of it.
I do, however, disagree with you view on Santa Clause @13:24 and quickly lumping it in with Christmas trees is not a fair assessment.
What are we told about Santa?
    1) He’s magical. What does the Bible say about magic?
    2) He sees your when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake. That is clearly a false Christ depiction - more on that in a moment.
    3) Were told that he keeps a list of who’s been naughty and nice. That replaces the idea of the book of life, and makes rewards work-based (i.e. your good behavior can be enough to earn you rewards).
Now, I could go on, but to catch up with the point I said I would continue on previously.
I watched my 9 year old niece lift her eyes to the sky and yell “thank you Santa” for her gifts, because my sister and her husband wrote on the gift tags that they were from Santa.
It’s going to be pretty difficult to convince me that “Santa” in that very instance is not a snare for my nieces faith in God. To whom do we owe all of our thanks, praise, and worship? To whom did the thanks, praise, and worship go to?
Now, I didn’t cause a scene or even point out the potential (arguably affirmative) issue there. I sat there quietly and let them continue in their celebration.
That same niece believes that a magical elf moves around the house each night, when in reality it’s her parents moving the elf around and convincing my niece that magic is real.
My brother-in-law touched the elf and my niece saw, which she said “takes away its magic”, my sister then looked up how to return magic to the elf (to please my niece, not that my sister believes in magic).
I then saw the elf placed on paper towels and circled in sprinkles and/or sparkles, in what appeared to be an amateur seance.
Sure, it seems harmless for the most part now, but it only takes a small seed for a massive oak to grow over time.
I’m concerned that you don’t take this seriously, because you haven’t seen things like what I described in person. I attest to you, there are many many families going through similar experiences right now.
My sister claims the name of Christian and goes to church. My brother-in-law claims the name of Catholic, but goes to church with my sister. My niece goes to Sunday school.
They bear no fruit of people that have been born again. I’m truly concerned about them and their practices (beyond just the previously mentioned activities).
This isn’t some game of analytical dissection, there’s a lion lurking and waiting to devour.

Saturnalia was an ancient Roman festival held in honor of the god Saturn, typically celebrated from December 17 to December 23. Initially, it began as a one-day event but gradually expanded to a weeklong celebration by the late Republic. The festival was marked by a reversal of social norms, where roles between slaves and masters were temporarily relaxed, and people engaged in feasting, gift-giving, and merrymaking.
Saturnalia began to decline in significance as Christianity spread throughout the Roman Empire. By the end of the 4th century CE, the festival was largely overshadowed by the celebration of Christmas, which was officially established on December 25. The transition from Saturnalia to Christmas involved the absorption of many of Saturnalia's customs, such as gift-giving and festive gatherings, into the new Christian holiday.
Christmas effectively replaced Saturnalia as the primary winter celebration in the Roman calendar. The choice of December 25 for Christmas was likely influenced by existing pagan festivals, including Saturnalia and the Roman festival of the "Birth of the Unconquered Sun." This strategic timing allowed early Christians to incorporate popular pagan traditions into their new faith, facilitating a smoother transition for converts from paganism to Christianity.
A scholarly source that discusses the transition from Saturnalia to Christmas and the incorporation of pagan traditions into Christian celebrations is the following:
MacCulloch, Diarmaid. Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years. Viking, 2011.
In this book, Diarmaid MacCulloch provides a comprehensive historical account of Christianity’s development, including its interactions with pagan traditions and the adaptation of various customs, such as Saturnalia, into Christian practices. MacCulloch explores how the early Christian church positioned Christmas in alignment with or as a replacement for existing pagan festivals like Saturnalia, Sol Invictus, and others around the winter solstice.
    Another useful source is:
Brown, Peter. The World of Late Antiquity: AD 150-750. Thames & Hudson, 1971.
Brown’s work covers the broader social and religious transformations in the late Roman Empire, including the decline of traditional pagan festivals like Saturnalia and their absorption into Christian practices. He discusses the role of seasonal festivals and how they were reinterpreted in the context of the Christianization of the Roman world.
These sources provide scholarly insights into the historical and cultural processes that led to the adaptation of Saturnalian customs into the Christian holiday of Christmas.

      @trentitybrehm5105 Місяць тому +1

@@Aviole The Bible does describe the timing of Christ's birth. We can calculate this from context clues given in the Bible.
As we know from basic human biology, the average child is born about 9 months after they are conceived. Christ's conception is something announced in the Bible, in the Gospel according to Luke 1:26-38.
In these verses we see only one timestamp given: 6 months into the pregnancy of St Elizabeth, the mother of St John the Baptist.
The Theotokos is informed that she will bear the Son of God. Mary gives her consent to this, and then she conceives.
So far we have two timestamps: 9 months after the Annunciation, and 6 months after the conception of St John the Baptist. However, we don't yet have an exact date. In the scriptures, though, we are told when St John the Baptist was conceived.
The Gospel of Luke 1:5-22 describes the conception of Saint John the Baptist as happening "of the course of Abia"
This is a critically important point because this describes the jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which happened in late September of 1 BC.
How does that simple phrase describe Yom Kippur? Well, the Scripture records the Course of Abia as the eighth course among the 24 priestly courses for the Old Covenant Jews. (Nehemiah 12:17). Each course served one week in the temple for twice each year.
The course of Abia served during the 8th week and the 32nd week in the annual cycle.
This means that the priestly course of Abia (the course of St Zacharias) was serving during the 2nd week of the Jewish month of Tishri - the week of the Day of Atonement on the 10th of Tishri.
In the secular calendar, the Day of Atonement on 10th Tishri lands anywhere from September 22 to October 8.
In 1BC, Hebrew Calendars have calculated it to be roughly equivalent to be about September 27th.
      www.cgsf.org/dbeattie/calendar/?roman=1bc
St Zacharias and St Elizabeth conceived John the Baptist immediately after Zacharias served his course. This means that St John the Baptist would have been conceived somewhere around the end of September.
This confirms the Orthodox Church’s celebration of the Conception of St John the Baptist on September 23, and places his birth 9 months later at the end of June, confirming the Orthodox Church’s celebration of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist on June 24.
So if St John the Baptist was conceived around September 23rd-27th, then Christ was conceived 6 months later in March (23rd-27th). That means Christ was born 9 months later in December, 23rd - 27th, which just so happens to contain December 25th.

I hate to say it, but when I see or hear rants over the subject of Christmas,, I feel that those people hate Jesus and subsequently hate His birth and birthday. Why pick the birthday of JESUS to find so "pagan" and why say that only 2 people (Pharaoh and Herod) celebrated birthdays ? we don't really know that many birthdays were not celebrated, do we ? it makes me think of how "off the deep end" people are about makeup, saying Jezebel painted her face. Maybe ALL WOMEN used a minute amount of help for their appearance - and how could wearing makeup be twisted up in making a girl/woman a Jezebel ?

Pharaoh, Herod and Belchazzer are heathen kings . And when ever a birthday is celebrated the Christian saints are killed & murdered as martyrs. John the baptist got his head chopped off because of a birthday.
And when you speak about makeup. Didn't you notice that Jacob commanded all his women to take of their makeup & jewellery. And he buried it in the ground.
Then he moves from that point and positions all his family in battle formation. His emphasis is that we have to meet God(Jesus/ The Angel of the Lord) without anything of satan.
That's why Jesus said, satan has nothing of me. Makeup came and originated from prostitution. No matter how much you try to formalise it. It is authored by satan the father of all sin.
Birthday celebration and Xmas is authored by satan. No matter how much you try to make it Christian. It is not possible.
Satan is called the accuser of the brethren. As long as you have sin in your life. Then he has jurisdiction over you. That why satan was able to challenge Jesus over the body of Moses and Joshua at Jericho.
This is why Jacob told all his household to bury that madness. Why?
Because we are about to meet The Chief Prince of heaven itself!
That is the Elijah message, bold & aggressive evangelism like John the baptist.
Joshua 5 He told Joshua kneeling to me is not enough. Take of your shoes(your past sins) because you're standing on holy ground.
This is the revelation message. Come out of Babylon my people. You can't worship God using satan's day.
Jacob noticed that. The children of Israel with Moses noticed that.
In anyway the 1st polygamy in human history by Lameck from the line of Cain. His 2 wives Zillah & Adah is the definition of makeup.
So when Gabriel is saying to Mary, greatly beloved are you amongst all women.
Perish the thought that Mary was wearing makeup.
Mt Zion is a holy place. No sin can enter there. It is not possible for The Holy Spirit to come to Mary whilst she is dressed like Jezebel. Dressing reflects character.
God answered Abel through obedience, not through physical flesh display.
His name is called wonderful. According to Samson's parents. What is wonderful is obedience like Abel. Not physical display.
Psalm 68 - Mt Bashan(Lucifer & the fallen earth) is greater than Mt Zion in physical splendour.
But Mt Zion shall be greater because. The LORD has chosen it as His dwelling place!
That is the emphasis as we are going towards the end. Come out of Babylon. Rise up from sleep and slumber!
You'll not meet Jesus holding on to your Xmas trees. You're not going to meet This Greatest Exalted Celestial Pontentate Chief Prince wearing your makeup.(Thou shall not bear false witness/ you shall not lie).
That is the last final warning of Elijah/ Revelation.

For me it's very easy... "the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever" is found in the Bible in Hebrews 13:8, therefore Jeremiah 10 cearly instructs us not to be like the heathan/pagans, and instructs us not to take a tree from the forest, fasten it and adorn in with silver and gold which is a Christmas tree. Now ask yourselves if the Lord is the same as yesterday, today and always and this is confirmed in the new testament than the Lord is CLEARLY not okay with all of us erecting an idol of a Christmas tree in our homes once a year. Romans celebrated Saturnalia, a festival honoring Saturn, by decorating their homes with evergreens during the winter solstice.
While I agree with Mr. Huff on many things, and even admit he has a refined education, I believe his hermeneutics are missing the mark on this issue. They set the date for the wedding, everything was going good... until one day, before the wedding, things take a turn for the worse. His fiancee became disloyal. She claims she has fallen in love with someone else, she leaves him and gives him back the ring. The man is devastated, and he holds on to the ring. Years later he meets someone else, he gets over his fears and proposes... WITH THE SAME RING, his girlfriend almost accepts the proposal.. but before she does she notices that the initials engraved on the ring are NOT HER'S and his.... She says to him, "What's this?" Pointing to the initials etched in the ring. He says "Oh my gosh! I'm SO sorry! I forgot I put that on there 😬!" She responds, "Are you proposing to me with your EX FIANCEE'S RING?? He says "Don't worry I'll get it fixed! I'll take out the engraving and put our initials instead!" How do you think that's going to turn out? How do you think she feels about this? I'll tell you.... The same way God feels about "repurposing" Christmas. Here are some scriptures to back up the lesson shown in this illustration (1 Kings 3:3 Deuteronomy 12:13-14)

The tradition of Christmas trees started in the 1200s AD in an area of France that had, by that point, been thoroughly Christian for the best part of 800 years.
They were always fir trees and were originally used in morality plays which told the story of Creation and the Fall the week before the Feast of the Nativity (I.e. Christmas). They're supposed to represent the Tree AND the garden, which in Ezekiel is described as a mountain.
Martin Luther is the first person we know of to put lights in a tree, although he used candles.
The first recorded Christmas tree was in the garden of a hospital, which any medieval historian knows means that it was in a monastery.

1851: Mark Carr, a New York woodsman, is credited with opening the first Christmas tree lot in the United States.
1863: The German-American cartoonist Thomas Nast published the first printed image of Santa Claus in Harper's Weekly.
1870: President Ulysses Grant made Christmas a federal holiday.
1889: President Benjamin Harrison began the tradition of setting up a Christmas tree at the White House.

I have a question,: in New Testiment it says that Angel came to Mary in the 6th month to tell her she will be pregnant with Jesus from Holy Spirit.
So if you calculate 9 month from that, that would be somewhere in March?
How was calendar back then? Was it different then now?

    • @trentitybrehm5105
      @trentitybrehm5105 Місяць тому +11

The Bible does describe the timing of Christ's birth.

Just like the Christmas is pagan crowd, you have presented a one sided unfair view of the subject. Julius Africanus never said Jesus was born on December 25th, he only speculated the conception. Jesus was crucified on Passover. If we were to go by that, we can speculate Him being conceived as late as April 25, which would place His birth in late January to early February.
Also none of the earliest Church Fathers ever mention December 25th as Jesus birthday. Irenaeus of Lyons, Tertullian of Carthage, Justin Martyr, Cyprian of Carthage, Eusebius of Caeserea (The Father of Church history) all mention birth years, but never mention Jesus being born on December 25th.
Clement of Alexandria mentions three believed birthdates in his time, they were in April, May, and November. Hippolytus of Rome mentions April 4 as being Jesus' birthday. Clement of Alexandria was a very educated man, and lived in Alexandria. One of the biggest cities, and areas where knowledge and ideas flowed a lot! Yet Clement never even mentioned December 25 being a possible date.
The first document to mention December 25 as being Jesus' birthday is the Chronograph of 354 AD, here is the thing, it is also the first thing to mention Sol Invictus being on December 25. Before that we have no reliable written evidence of Jesus being born on December 25, other dates were suggested before.
He also ignores things about John Chrysostom. People claim (InspiringPhilosophy specifically) that Julian the Apostate made Sol Invictus holiday on December 25 to get back at Christians. Heres the thing: Julian the Apostate, and John Chrysostom lived around the same time. John Chrysostom mentions Sol Invictus being celebrated on December 25 as well. He never mentions Julian changing Sol Invictus to December 25, weird don't you think that would be pointed out if Julian did that? It is because there is no evidence of Julian the Apostate, and Aurelius ever adopting dates from the Christians.
He also ignores the fact that John Chrysostom says that Christmas was a new celebration in Antioch, and was just introduced in the past 10 years. All in all this video has some truths, but seems to be as (If not more) inconsistant than the people who claim Christmas is completely pagan...
Christmas is really just a secular holiday at this point that never had anything to do with Jesus in the beginning. It is never mentioned in the Bible either. Personally I would celebrate the winter holiday that Jesus Himself celebrated, which is Hanukkah! Have a blessed day!

Watched some of your content and I like it. May I ask what denomination you are part of? Is it Calvinistic/ reformed? Won’t make a huge difference to me since I watch all kinds of Christian content but I am always interested in the theological views of the Bible I subscribe to. I watch quite a few calvinists despite me not being a Calvinist. God bless!

Watch this one about Christmas. Wes has some good points, however he is lacking so much concerning the origins of this holiday. ua-cam.com/video/BxDOpPoBbeg/v-deo.html

Hi Wes, I just happened to fall on one of your videos a few weeks ago, and I am grateful I have. I have learned a lot from you. Is there a way where you can send me the chart that's in the beginning of this video?

Can you list references that we may view that the pagans in fact copied off the Christian’s as you stated? There are so many videos with facts of why we should not follow man made traditions. We need dates to prove other wise isn’t it hear say. How can one truly know without dates, seems like a lot of pictures.

      Amen!
Just ask the Lord to have the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to you on how The Lord views this time of year, and He shall reveal the scriptures which will help you to see, because the Lord promised that His Holy Spirit will teach us, and that we need NO man to do so: 1 John 2:27.
I loved Christmas, and the Lord started to reveal to me the truth from Jeremiah 10, regarding the "Tree". Then through the years, I came to realize that my emotional memories, and reactions to the colors, the food, the decoration, the music, triggered my draw to it! Once seeing this I just asked the Lord, I see the struggle, and please cause me to be separated from it so that YOU are Glorified in Truth and Righteousness.
He did and now I am more set free from the "spirit" that is behind this season, and I am joyful for it, because it pleases Him, and He desires to remove ALL things that do not represent Him within our human fleshly hearts.
      Lord bless you!

The traditions of giving gifts to each other rather than to the poor. Inviting each other ( who can well afford to reciprocate) to lavish feasts rather than inviting those or bringing food to those who would otherwise be going hungry are the points that I find most discordant.

@Wes Huff No early Christians were decorating Christmas Trees and placing presents underneath them. You mentioned at 8th century “Saint” cutting down a tree and dedicating it to Christ where is that biblical? This man is German and this action has nothing to do with Semitic Customs. If the custom of Christmas Is not biblical it’s pagan.
