A short answer is yes but there is something more to this, according to mahã mangala sutta as preached by the Buddha himself states that, (bãhusakkancha sippancha, winayo cha susikkhitho, subãsitã cha yã wãchã, ethan mangala muththaman) which is in pali and means that "To have a chance to learn and grow, to be skillful in your profession or craft, practicing the precepts and loving speech - this is the greatest happiness." So according to this sutta the answer is clear which is it's wise and okay to learn and study hard but there is something more to this...as if your interested i would like to mention this too..Lord Buddha preached and taught this in affect to normal beings like us and has not specified for monks...so that has a reason..which means that when you choose to become a monk, you search the truth of life, the ending for the samsara (reincarnation/continue to be born and die) the sole purpose of becoming a monk to eradicate all craves towards everything so for my knowledge it's not encouraged or said in buddhism for you to learn and study normal lifestyle anymore after becoming a monk.. as a monk there are plenty of dhamma or dharma facts and concepts to be learned discussed, mastered and understand inside out to put into practice in the journey towards the path of nirvana...
My life advice is seek a degree for your own personal good and financial security. But don't let that degree define who you are as a person or give it power and make it seem like your value comes from it. See it as another thing you would like to do as part of living. Things are only as powerful as you let them be.
