this is a good way to mix the functionality of a standing desk while still enjoying a traditional wooden desk feel. the precision of the the drawer faces and the added curve on the front are lookin sleek.
Thank you!!
As Ive decided to work beyond retirement, the standing desks are amazing at keeping you focused and feeling better after a long day. I really like your desk and the utilization of storage. Great job John
Thanks I appreciate it!!
This is a beautiful desk !! Love that it can be used for standing up as well.
Thank you!!
I love that it can go up and down!
Really liking it!
Very nice. It's a good size top without being obtrusive. Good stain option too.
Thanks Eric!
So pretty! A solid build!
Thank you!!
Beautiful desk! Once again awesome work! 😊
Thanks!!
Well done John! Beautiful desk.
I appreciate it! 🙌🏼
Bastante interesante, gracias por compartir su experiencia...
Looks awesome, very nice job!!
Thanks Brad!
Awesome, as always. You are the reason that I bought the Bora centipede stands. I have the 2‘ x 4‘ and the 4‘ x 8‘ models. I use the heck out of both of them… And I love the convenience of being able to put them away as soon as I’m done - in my tiny little garage. Thanks for sharing… Best to you and yours.
Awesome man, love those things!
I was just thinking about purchasing these. Glad that you posted your feedback. Would you mind sharing where you purchased your set?
@@SoniaBDorsey Search UA-cam for - John builds it. Best workstation anywhere. Or John builds it - Bora. He has the Amazon links in there (that video) for multiple options and accessories.
That desk turned out great! Nicely done!
Thanks John!
Beautiful build! And since I always use a standing desk, this is definitely a project I will consider in the future!
Thanks for watching!!
Great work!!
Thanks a lot!
Solid design and build! The curve really takes it up a notch.
Thank you!
Looks fantastic
Thank you!
Looks great
Thanks!
Another great project. I really like the look of your white oak projects, but I may like the elm a bit more!
Thanks man I’m liking it too! Looks even better in person
Absolutely amazing build I've been seeing these desks more and more either on TV or UA-cam commercials and of course Beautiful builds like yours. I very much would like a desk like this, I'm pretty capable of building a desk and drawer portion and maybe legs but not the rising part. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!!
Very nice
Well done John!
Thank you!!
Nice! I like the regular drawer slides, the undermount ones take away so much volume from the drawers.
That, and they take a lot out of your $ wallet! Haha
Awesome build. I’ve been thinking of building a sit stand for home as well. Think I’ll check them out.
Thanks for watching man!
Awesome build! I need this desk!
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Would love to have plans for this!
I really like this design with the storage under the desktop. I’ve been thinking about replacing my oversized L-shaped desk in my home office with a simple slab since I do t need all the filing storage my current desk offers. But I’ve been hesitant because there are still~some~ things that need to be around my desk like chargers, cables, etc. This design would be perfect for what I need to give me a minimalist desk combined with practical storage. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching man!
I'm in the same boat. I will probably get rid of my l-shaped desk in favor of something like this but I need it to be quite a bit bigger than this.
Awesome build 👊🏻
👊🏼👊🏼
Great idea 💡 👍 👏 👌
Thanks for watching!
Really great build, and having the ability to stand for a bit is a big plus. I purchased your crib plans, and after building it and watching this build, I'm starting to think you are the dowel king, lol.🤣
Haha for sure! I got the lamello a little while ago to use off camera on most client work but I’ll try to keep it approachable on UA-cam lol
gooood
Liked the surprise at the end...It is for a laptop !!....😄
Haha yep!!
Snygg design!😁👍 hälsningar Kent från Sverige 😁
Thanks for watching!
When I saw the drawer fronts placed into the slots, I hoped that you were going to use "push to open" drawer slides, as it was such a nice clean look, and not use any pulls or handles..
Also, if there's a third setting for desk height, you could have 1 for sitting, 1 standing, and 1 for a height that will fit your chair underneath, but as low as possible..
The elm is beautiful
🙌🏼🙌🏼
You can store so you get air under the bottom. Helps keep it stable allowing the top and bottom to dry the same amount is the theory. That way you get less movement and won't have to re-mill loosing thickness.
Yep I do. The clip of them stacked was to show they weren’t completely flat anymore, after resting separated
@@JohnBuildsIt Ah.... gotcha!
Sweet desk! Always learn something new from your videos! What grit sandpaper do you use for sanding the
C A. Glue? I seem to struggle with clogging paper or scratching the wood
I think 120 here and then finished with 150
Nice desk! I just bought and assembled my base today (I’m using an existing top). Then I see your video - so now I have to build a top as well. 😊
Unrelated question. What did you do to your shop vac? Is that a home made cycle or something? Any video on that?
Thanks!
It’s an idea Dustopper was working on incorporating their separator inside the vac. They have a video about it on their channel
Excellent video! Your videos are always so well done and easy to follow. Any chance you will have build plans for this desk available to purchase on your site any time soon?
No not for this one, sorry!!
John, do you have a video on your shop vac set up? It looks interesting.
Not on this one. Check out the Dustopper channel
Sweet build, I've been looking at sit/stand desks and think your is the best. What 90 degree attachment do you use on the track saw?
TSO Products
Great project John! I’ve been thinking about building a new office desk. A little off topic question but I noticed you have hardwood or vinyl floors. What did you do with the wheels on your office chair?
It’s laminate. Haven’t done anything with the wheels though??
We installed Vinyl luxury plank through out the house and I’ve been terrified of the plastic wheels on the office chairs scratching the floor. Interesting. Just wondering if you did anything with your plastic office chair wheels. Cheers! Love the videos. Keep it up John.
Nice piece John. How do you decide when to and not to use dominos, biscuits etc to align boards for glue ups like this top and bottom here. You got a great outcome without them. Thanks.
Just if some of the boards are bowed or something and need help staying aligned flat, or really large panels. These were all nice and flat, so easy to clamp up without any help
Great build. What thickness did you mill that down too? What did you start at?
3/4, usually starts around 1”. The top is a little thicker but I don’t remember exactly at this point haha
Hey John awesome build, i notices you switched to the milwuakee track saw which one do you prefer makita or milwuakee?
I need more time with the Milwaukee but I’m definitely leaning that way. Both are really great saws though
Very nice! My daughter and I just finished a similar project but with flexispot. Nice little table but not able to handle the extra weight like your top. I gotta ask how tall are you! It seems you may need to raise up your workbench to!
Haha I’m 6’2”. I love the height for building bigger stuff like cabinets, but yea on stuff laying flat on the table the back starts to hurt for sure
You need to build a sit/stand workbench next!
Enjoyed the video. Looking to build something like this for my kids. I do have a question. It’s more out of curiosity then anything else. Why only glue for the top and bottom panels and not glue and dowels? Is it a preference or is it for expansion purposes?
I use dowels or biscuits if the panels are big enough or need some assistance keeping lined up. They’re just for alignment, all the strength is the glue
@@JohnBuildsIt gotcha. Thanks for the response!
I checked your link you don't have plans or a cut list for this desk? I think it's awesome, I would use my dowelmax I'm not that advanced to freehand them yet lol.
No not for this one, sorry!
How was the Elm to work with? We have alot of white Elm and some red elm on our family farm, and have thought about having some milled for a project.
I really liked it. My first time working with it but it milled up and cut great
@@JohnBuildsIt I will have to try using it. I see you have the new Milwaukee track saw. I have one as well. It's my first track saw, and I really like it
hey John, are the dimentions available? if not are u able to make them, I am looking to recreate this for my yr 12 major work.
Very nice - how do you like the Fezibo stand?
Really enjoying it! Even more than I thought I would
@John Builds It Thank you for the feedback just purchased one 👍
Did you retire the Makita track saw?
No, I may have one set up with a plywood blade and one for hardwoods. Just really enjoying the Milwaukee right now haha
You putting out plans for this peice?
I wasn’t planning on it, but possibly could!
Как всегда завораживает ваша работа. А что за дерево?
Elm
@@JohnBuildsIt не приходилось мне с ним работать. Чаще дуб и ясень
Pipe clamps are so much cheaper than parallel clamps. Do they do as good of a job?
They work just fine👍🏽I use way more pipe clamps than parallel
Would yhis adjustable frame work for a 74" wide version of this desk?
This frame widens to just over 67”. So you’d have a 3.5” overhang on each side
@JohnBuildsIt thanks, I think that's a good looking amount of overhang
what? you're not using the Milwaukee right angle drill attachment?
I like to keep the brand loyalists on their toes haha
For some reason I cant find these plans
I didn’t make plans for this one
Are you still liking the laguna machines?
Love them!
@@JohnBuildsIt my jointer’s motor just crapped out within 30 days of owning it.. unfortunate considering I’ve already had a poor experience with Laguna prior to that. Glad yours are still working well!
@@rm.builds yikes! How has their customer service been? I had a similar experience with Jet and the support was such a joke
@@JohnBuildsIt support has been decent. I initially ordered a JX8 through their outlet and it was damaged upon receipt. They are now replacing the motor in the new unit free of charge. Hopefully this solves the problem!
Wow, I have been wanting one of these for so long but refused to pay 12 hundred dollars for a freakin pair of legs! your price is the best I have seen I am getting me a new desk! Your awesome! I'm so glad I'm subecribed to you! Thumbs up from now on!!
Really great quality for the price too!
