It is the looks that are putting people off. Everything on this car are just straight lines. Headlights, taillights, grille outlines, grille details, bumpers, hood creases, and body creases are all just straight lines, and this is exacerbated on a large car like this. The front and rear overhang seems too long also. I have no doubt it is a great driving, reliable, and comfortable car (I used to own a 2013 Sport). The car doesnt just look generic, it doesn't look right. Cars are an emotional purchase, and looks is a big factor, especially when people are spending over $30k on a car.

The accord isn’t selling because of exactly what the OP originally stated… this thing is U.G.L.Y!!!!!!!! It looks like a 2012 Ford Taurus and it SEVERELY lacks features found in most other classes while demanding at or over $40,000.00 for the top trim.
They use reflector-beam led headlights (cost cutting… and may I mention, not even auto-leveling), they only offer a single-pane sun roof, no power folding mirrors, only the driver and front passenger doors have smart access feature, while they do have a “fully” digital gauge cluster it’s tiny in size to others and has a massive plastic border around it that doesn’t even fill out the entire cluster-area (again, cost cutting), no awd option, no spare tire (cost cutting..again), no homelink garage buttons unless you pay $500 extra for it, no heated steering wheel (cost cutting, especially for this class), no 360 degree camera, only TWO TRIMS (ex-l and touring) offer rear air vents, and the list continues.
Honda for as long as they’ve been around have been reserving these so-called “luxury” features for their Acura division without realizing that Acura does not sell well!!!! They’ve been declining in sales for such a long time and have always been behind Lexus’ shadow. If Honda just took the features they hoard with Acura and used them in their own cars while simultaneously turned Acura into a true German-rival brand, then they could actually move forward like the rest of the automakers. Ffs, I’d rather have a Kia at this point and that’s speaking volumes coming from someone who is a Japanese brand diehard. It’s pathetic!!!

I’m a huge Honda/Acura fan. Got my first Honda in 1985 when I was 17. Have owned nothing but Hondas or Acuras since. Have always chosen their higher performing engine options, (V6, 2.0T). This new Accord is the most disappointing Accord in my life and has me probably leaving the Honda family after 39 years of loyalty. I currently have a ‘21 Accord Touring 2.0T which I love. I appreciate the new Accord for what it is but it has abandoned its commitment to higher performance, which abandons me in the process. The TLX offers the 2.0T but that car is so heavy, that even with the extra 20hp it offers, it’s slower than my Accord. The Type S version is way more expensive and gets horrendous mileage, not to mention that the TLX is considerably less roomy than my car. So, where does that leave me as a lifelong Honda customer? All I want is a decent looking sedan, that is fairly roomy and offers at least as much performance as my current Accord, if not more, for less than $45k. There’s not much being offered now that meets my criteria. Fortunately, I’m not in the market for a newer car right now. I’m still very content with what I have. But I always like to know what to aim for when thinking about my next car. This is the first time in my life, when I’ve been lost in that regard. I’m exceedingly disappointed by Honda’s decision to forsake performance for fuel economy. I don’t mind that they prioritize fuel economy. I just wish that they also offered more power to those of us who prefer it.

I don't see it as a bad car objectively, it's just that 1) it's not a crossover, and 2) other models in its class have AWD available and this does not. How much you willing to bet the 0 Series becomes the next Accord with a hatch?
Also, if it's like the CR-V Sport Touring, the top trim Accord Hybrid should be able to anticipate hills on the route entered into the navigation system and adjust its powertrain accordingly so.it.can maximize EV mode and regen on the downhills.

    • @SeanChandler

I do wonder what the take rate is for an AWD Camry/Prius. Perhaps Honda thinks customers would just go for a CR-V instead of paying an extra $1500 for an awd Accord?

I think people were very disappointed that the 2.0t option was dropped, but also, the previous gen was more distinctive in appearance. The new front end is extremely generic looking and if anything looks similar to the last Taurus that was sold in the US, which is very unfortunate. They basically went from a near sports sedan with some legit performance cred to a Häagen-Dazs vanilla-as-can-be sedan that no one really notices in traffic. Even though it may be a very good car, it just doesn’t stand out. And the performance of the 2.0T can't be matched by the hybrid in its current form. between those two major factors, I think interest has just dwindled with the new generation. You can say it’s just a decreased interest in sedan in general, which has some truth, but Camry and Corolla are still selling in comparatively big numbers.

as a lifelong honda fanboy, there is no compelling reason to choose the accord over the civic, especially now that the civic hybrid exists. by taking away the manual, 2.0t, etc the accord just "blends in". even the sonata comes with a 2.5t still, and the camry, while losing its v6, gets hybrid+optional awd on all trims. even the altima kept its 2.0 turbo, and still offers optional awd on the 1.6. what stanout feature does the accord have that the civic doesn't?

All sedans are seeing sales nosedive. The Civic is an exception a) because it's a compact car (the sedan market has shrunk from the top down starting with the "full-size" sedans like the Avalon and Maxima, now the mid-size cars) and b) because it's the best in its class by a massive margin and arguably the best Civic ever.
The Accord also got rid of nearly every single sporty feature: 2.0T, manual, aggressive styling. Still surprised to hear of the poor sales though because I see a ton of them on the road. I also like the clean, contemporary styling. Everyone said the new Civic looked boring too until they saw it in person.

One of the biggest things that build a case for the Civic is the availability of a hatchback version that rivals in practicality to the HRV. The only advantage over the Civic, especially now that Honda released an Hybrid Civic, is that you have air vents for the back seats and memory seats (I hope anyway on some of the Accord upper trims).
But otherwise, the Civic is snappier, nimbler and you can get a hatch if you’re into this type of body shape.
Yes, the Civic is not as roomy per se, but it’s not a huge difference either.

But after driving and owning the Hybrid Accord - all I can say is wow! The integration of a battery with the naturally aspirated 2 Liter engine is flawless - we can't even tell when the engine is on and when it turns off - it's brilliant. t shows that electrification can be done elegantly and the efficiency is fantastic - the Hybrid Accord is rated for 46mpg! When I went to test drive my 23 civic sport that I did end up buying, I saw the new accord for the first time. I absolutely hated its design but was intrigued and wanted to know more about it. Overall it is a nice car, the design grew on me with particular colors but this car needs a redesign and some extra features. Personally think a higher trim civic is better

Long time loyal Honda fan here, until I got the 11th gen Honda Sport Hybrid. It was my biggest disappointment. Honda has sacrificed quality for quantity. After having the car for a little over a year now, my impression is that Honda has ripped off their customers by offering a vehicle with the lowest possible quality materials available on any automaker present in the US. The plastics are flimsy, and the cabin panels rattle and creak excessively. The plastics are a lot cheaper than a typical popular car. Don’t lean on the door when you’re on the ATM; the panel is so poorly built, it’ll break. My center console wasn’t installed properly, so it wobbles to the side as if it were an aftermarket accessory. Don’t make the same mistake I did, and assume the new gen is better or the same as the 10th gen (which was perfect). There are better options out there with better value. Honda is so lazy to install AC vents and USB ports in the back. Also, the rear door panels are made out of very thin plastic. When you shut it close, all you hear is thin sheet metal banging. Also, my Accord has been to the shop 9 times with issues related to the suspension, ball joints and worst of all, noisy steering. Stay away from any new Honda. After checking them out, I found all of them to be underwhelming. Maybe Honda is blind and they’re not concerned about the competition, but this will be my last one.

It’s no coincidence that everyone photographs the car really low down because it hides the weird sense of narrowness and flatness of the front. This car should look far better than it does. I feel like they put in a poison pill to force everyone who still wants at a sedan to jump ship to a Civic, Integra or a TLX.
If they want to keep customers, they need to step up…
I hope there will be a few body changes in 2026 and a Sport+ type trim which will up the hp and torque specs on the hybrid to be closer to the earlier 2.0T

I'll break it down on my end. I'm in a metro area, first of it's a big car, sometimes it's nice but then there's maneuvering around tight crowed spaces & places and then parking spots(you're sitting low). If you're gonna go that big, you might be better off with a cuv/suv. A bit more room and sitting higher. It's a different experience when you can see over the hood. Wife loved the new pilot until she sat in it and couldn't see @5'5". Sat in an odyssey and took it home. Visibility is great all around. She had a 19 accord for 2 years and used a seat cushion for more height.

I wanted a 23 Accord EX last year. I had 8200 equity in my trade. In Texas, my insurance in my 6 months would go up 445. A Civic was 440 more. The lowest cost was the 24 HRV EXL at 235. I bought the 24 HRV EXL on the lower insurance alone. I paid 29,000. No mark ups. Financed 20,500. I’m paying extra principal so I’m at 11,700. My Apr is 5.9. My payment is 342. Insurance 229 a month. I wanted an Accord but I refused to pay 300 a month for insurance.

It seems to me that Honda is riding on a lot of arrogance and huffing their own stuff, pricing is outrageous, the dealers are down right crooks. Talking about a double stiff finger. My local Honda dealer 6 months ago had 12 new cars on the lot, you asked about the Civic they tell you they have one on the lot point to it and had 11K in dealer added markups, 699 dollars for nitrogen fill. Drive around the blind corner they had 225 brand new cars all ready to go. By the way this is a small dealer in a poor town.

No AWD - biggest issue, the seat comfort sucks compared to my acura - close second, the dash needs an overhaul and frankly isn't it time somene offered a car with quality speakers? Why do $30K cars still require a bar to hold up the hood? I've had Honda my whole life but I'm going to get a toyota but I'll put in custom speakers.

About my only complaint is the front grill and headlight treatment is a bit too conservative and boxy, but otherwise, everything else about the design is nice. I especially like the taillight treatment and the wide stance of the vehicle.

It’s hard to put into words why I don’t like the new accord. Its body style should be really cool and it does look good from certain angles…. But in the whole I just get this feeling of it being a droopy slouching body. I hate that they tapered the rear out so much to where there is hardly any trunk. I’m sure it’s more aerodynamic but it’s cooler older sister the TLX has an infinitely better tail end. ( so does the civic Si sedan for that matter )

Turbo's and Cvt's people do not want, at least not me, give me a 2.4 non turbo with an 8 speed automatic or dual clutch and it would be a done deal. it's really the epa of this administration with their CAFE standards that has put a choke on the sales. plus people can't afford a new car right now either.
