Hope you're doing well these days man. Miss seeing your hiking adventures but rewatch beauties like this on the regular, all the best with what's keeping you busy & hopefully happy!
Great video mate! A huge amount of effort in setting up those shots, well worth it. It's funny how similar the weather conditions were in the exact same spots as when I walked it. I think i'll always picture Pine Moor with low clouds coming in from the side. Top stuff. Cheers
Cheers Rob! Just gave your vid a rewatch and it’s like we must have done it at the same time 😂 Them feeling dipping the feet in water after 12+ hours on the trail is something else
Hi Josh, Agree with Rob. A huge amount of effort into placement of cameras and setting up. Really gave the story some focus and direction. I actually loved hearing all the natural sounds, I listened with headphones on and it triggered a lot of memories of that track and others in Tassie. Huge amounts of Editing, well done, I definitely rate this as one of your best videos. Question, did you get an interest into the Du Cane ranges area and hiking that? A lot of good areas to film and a lot of peaks to climb over a few days if you are keen. I'm heading there in a few weeks and I pray for the weather you got.
Excellent video Josh the no music really worked well in this one the natural sounds were great, rivers flowing insects buzzing and obviously your footsteps. Huge effort again appreciate your filming this and sharing on your channel. ATB Carl.
Music is your choice i like it sometimes with and other times without so you decide and i am happy no matter, just keep the videos coming and thankyou.
Love this video mate - the relaxing nature sounds with the subtitles reminds me of the Primitive Technology channel. Looking forward to tackling the Overland track one day myself!
I’m looking forward to my 5 week trip in 2024 even more now. You should be working for the BBC or Nat Geo Josh! Anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors knows that gulp of fresh air we take when surrounded by nature!
Epic mate. Wow what cracking weather you had. Love it. Loved watching as always. I’ve got to get down there one day. Love the no music I’ve been playing with that too. It’s really nice.
Beautiful hike. I did it in the summer of 2006 and had sun, rain and a blizzard. Watching I realise how much my memory of particular parts of the track has faded over time.
Really enjoyed watching your video Josh, like your other videos, just awesome, truly inspiring. I'm 60 and my dream is to do the Overland and the Wall of Jerusalem next year. Not taking it lightly, been in the gym for 5 months already, by next year I should be right.
Mate, rain is holding up our renovations here in Sydney. We'd love you to organise an overnight hike/camp in our back yard to guarantee decent weather and sunshine. My missus and I have done a lot of stuff in Tas but never have we had the weather you seem to get everywhere! Cheers and thanks - awesome vid as always. Dave
Cheers Helen, I love the sound of running water too! There’s bugger all of it in WA for a lot of the multi day hikes so I tend to go a bit overboard with in places like Tassie 😅
Loved this one as always. As someone else said I didn’t even notice there wasn’t any music until you mentioned it. I thought it worked well for this one. Great work!
Sound of nature seems to be a better option (for me). That gives a better feeling of what real nature is all about and what we experience on the trail.
Love that you've found something you're so passionate about mate, it's awesome too watch, gutted I couldn't go on this one with you, looked mint. Keep smashing these hikes while ya fit and healthy brother. Ps, add the music back in, doesn't have to be the whole video, just bits of music add an extra element. Love ya work big dog!
Really enjoyed the video. Did this walk around 30 years ago and it was very nice to recall the journey. Makes me want to pull out my old 35mm slides and take a look. Cheers.
Bucket list hike! Looks absolutely stunning. So glad I stumbled across your Channel. Great job filming! Looking forward to following along and seeing what you get up to next!
Cheers Monique and Mick! WA is all over the joint at the moment with border restrictions so your guess is as good as mine where there next one will be 🤣
Hey Josh, first of your hiking videos I have seen. Got me inspired to add the Overland to my bucket list. Loved that you didn't have music as I could hear nature and the birds throughout. Thanks
Thanks Wayne. I take it you mean from Narcisuss to St Clair Lodge? Could have easily fit it in if I wanted but thought the boat ride was a good way to finish it off
@@JoshCarrHikes you easily have the fitness, the walk around the lake is great and doesn't cost you much more time vs the boat if you get an early start. Then you can also say you have really done the OLT to anyone that asks instead of nearly did it.
Awesome, My wife and I are Heading there one Wednesday to do the track for the 2nd time, but this time with our kids. cant wait. Always appreciate the effort you go for these amazing vids mate.
Great hike and video mate. Was lucky enough to be in Tassie in October. Got to summit cradle, but it was blizzard conditions and did not do the overland. Keen to go back.
Awesome video mate. I think the no music really worked for this one and to be honest I didn’t even realize there was no music until you mentioned it. The scenery was amazing and looks like you had some spectacular weather. It’s been on my hike list for awhile now too. Hopefully I get to do it soon.
Cheers, definitely got lucky with the weather. I’d originally booked it two weeks prior to going on the trip and the forecast was rain and snow for the whole time so pretty glad I pushed it back. It’d be a ripper one to take the family on. Pretty easygoing without the side trips especially if you take 6 days to do it
@@JoshCarrHikes When I was a teenager doing walks in that area there were no bookings or park fees... very few people. The views were the same though... :)

Great video Josh. The Overland track looks awesome, hope I can do it one day. As someone who has just taken up hiking in the past 18 months your a real inspiration. Look forward to watching your next hike.
This is awesome man! Those views are spectacular! I'm definitely adding this to my list to do someday. I can appreciate how much effort went into all those shots, well done. Also the captions are a cool idea! Cheers.
Cheers Dan. I'd rate Frenchman's higher - Was like a miniature Overland Track but on steroids. I'd also throw the Three Capes above the Overland too but that was mostly a coastal walk so comparing apples to oranges really.
Awesome video Josh. Especially loved the captions its a great idea and adds a lot. All hiking video creators should do it. looking forward to the next one!

Didn't know our country has this hidden beauty, You deserve more subscribers, I honestly love your videos they help me relax and be more present with the nature. Kudos to you!!
Great video, brings back some memories. Did the OT solo in mid October last year. A highlight was walking the section from Echo Point to visitor center at Lake St. Claire. Had an unseasonal dumping of snow during the night and it was a winter wonderland. Not something we see back home in WA!
Would be a surreal experience to hike it during a snowfall. And I’ll have to do the Echo Point to Lake St Clair one day! I only ever hear good things about it
Tasmania definitely have some of the most beautiful walks in Australia if not in the world! Really liked the editing and your behind the scenes in the end. Looking forward to your next adventure!
We were so sorry we missed it this year due to restrictions but definitely on for 2022! Excited all over again watching your video. The views are incredible, not sure whether we'll get to see them though!
G’day Josh … another great video. Having recently done the full OT myself in great weather I was interested in your rating of the track - and you feel there are better multi day walks in TAS. Which ones do you believe are better..? Also enjoyed your Freycinet loop video. Looking to that one over summer. Cheers and keep up the great work.
Cheers Nigel, I'd rank Frenchman's Cap higher. It's hard yakka but it's like the Overland Track on steroids. Dense lush green rainforest, unbelievable views and Tahune Hut is unreal. The Three Capes is amazing as well but that's more of a coastal walk so is hard to compare the two. All the trails I've done in Tas have been pearlers and the Freycinet Loop is no exception. Hope it goes well for you!
Cheers mate. Camera was Sony a7iii with 16-35mm 2.8 gmaster lens. Took 4 batteries with 2 powerbanks although could have just done with the one. Tripod is peak design travel tripod. Usually bring MP2 drone with me too but restrictions in Tassie don’t allow it. Hope that helps :)
@@dyong888 Yeah, I find I usually use about 80% of a battery per day. I didn’t have to charge any on this trip, only used the power bank to recharge the phone at the end of the day.
absolutely love your content and hope to see much more from you in the future but i must ask, how do you afford these hikes and how do you manage to get the time to do them?
Cheers Nathan. Not going to beat around the bush these hikes put a dent in the wallet, I’d say on average each trip would cost ~$1000. I work away on a 8 days on 6 days off roster. Had to take annual leave for the Larapinta but every other hike I’ve managed to squeeze in on my 6 days off
Loved your journey on the Overland track Josh. I wonder who took the footage on when you were at such a distance. I worked well without the music, One can appreciate the sound of nature. My partner and I did this walk in 2000 and loved it. We are considering doing it again. Cheers Buddy and happy hiking.
Not going to lie those long shots were bloody tiring. Would love to have a spare body for those moments 😂 Geez turning back the clock a bit there, I was just a wee fella back then! Would be awesome to hike it again and see what’s changed over the years
Josh I am really enjoying your videos, bingeing in fact. I am interested in your pack both brand, litreage and weight please? Also in your 3 peak video you had some dehydrated food that I could not read the brand, not feed the hike as I have bought some of theirs the other one Really excellent videos so thank you
Thanks Neil, appreciate it. The backpack I use is called the Atlas Adventure. It holds ~70 litres, weighs about 2.5kg and is designed to be a hybrid photography/camping backpack. Whilst it's super comfy, I've found that I mostly have my videography equipment on the outside of the backpack so I'm not really using it for it's intended purpose. I've recently purchased a much lighter and smaller backpack to cut down on weight so I'm that will be my new go to. Regarding the food, I think in that video it was just a standard back country cuisine meal? That'll be the last time I ever eat one of those meals - I've found Strive Foods & Go Native are much better options
Great video - blown away by the video quality in particular. Not to be that guy, but what profile did you shoot this in (current a7 looking to jump to m3)? Because this doesnt look like straight out of the box footage and I'm sure theres grading involved. Looks stunning man, good stuff.
Cheers Ben! I shoot it all with no profile. I’d say 70% of the shots have a very slight colour grade to them but it’s very minimal. Usually increase the saturation a smidge, decrease/increase the highlights/shadows depending on how the clip looks and that’s really about it
Such a beautiful video Josh 🙌Love how you frame your shots! Do you review your shots on the trail, or do you just get it and review the footage at home once you start editing? Congrats on crushing 5k, you'll be doing this full-time soon!
I’m just trying to make my shots look as good as yours 😉 Nah, usually not unless it’s generally a close up and the focus needs to be spot on - Other than that fast and loose all the way. Ah man I wish 😩 Have had some other things take priority so the hiking adventures are on the back burner for the mo. The bug is scratching hard to get back out on the trail tho, especially after I watch your vids!
Amazing footage mate - you captured the beauty of the OT so well. Did you decide not to stay in the huts at all? Part of the Overland experience is putting up with a room full of snorers!
Hey Josh, looking into a garmin inreach mini. I've seen you use one almost religiously. Do you ever take a PLB aswell or do you think the inreach in australia is enough?
Hey Josh going to do the overland track in the coming weeks. Have you found the solution to blisters? I saw you had some toe socks before and was wondering if they help?
Yeah I know, pretty devastated about that. I actually figured out where to go after 5-10minutes of admiring the view. Ended up deciding it was too sketchy to climb with the camera gear and backpack so left it all behind and made what I thought was close enough to the summit. I could see the Labyrinth and all that but was too buggered to venture another 10minutes further up as I figured the view would be much the same as where I was. A bloke sent me a video of what I missed out on and yeah, not going to lie pretty bummed about not spending the extra effort. Ahwell, another excuse to go back in the future though!
Sure thing - Flight Perth to Launceston: $280.26 - Flight Hobart to Perth: $403.78 - Transport airport to accomm: $30 - Transport hike to airport: $77.50 - Bus Launceston to Cradle: $77.50 - Feed and beer at Lake St Clair: $32.50 - Bus St Clair to airport: $87.50 - Jetboil Cannister: $14.21 - Accomodation Podinn: $44 - Overland Track Fee: $200 - Boat Ride: $50 - Parks Pass (2 years) : +- $115 Total: $1297 +- $115 for the Parks Pass

Hola, saludos cordiales desde Venezuela. ¿El próximo video para cuándo?
Amazing footage mate - you captured the beauty of the OT so well. Did you decide not to stay in the huts at all? Part of the Overland experience is putting up with a room full of snorers!
Cheers James! Not for me it wasn’t haha I steered well clear from the huts for that reason
Hey Josh, looking into a garmin inreach mini. I've seen you use one almost religiously. Do you ever take a PLB aswell or do you think the inreach in australia is enough?
Hi, I see your list has drone. But can we really use that personally during the hiking?
Hey Josh going to do the overland track in the coming weeks. Have you found the solution to blisters? I saw you had some toe socks before and was wondering if they help?
Ever since I switched to the Injiji toe socks I haven’t got a single blister. Cannot recommend them enough!
Great video as always. Was it a wrong turn at The Acropolis or too sketchy? Missed out on the views of Mount Geryon :(
Yeah I know, pretty devastated about that.
Whats happened to you Bloke? hope you're well and off doing something that makes you happy. Will you be doing more youtube stuff?
is there any chance that you are able to supply a break down in cost for this trip.?
