The second hardest bit to Salmon fishing is pausing when you feel the fish take, and you are right on the money now. Always a pleasure viewing your videos, whether drooling at your van food creations, or seeing you connecting with fish. Great stuff.
Thanks for the encouragement. It's taken awhile to train away there trout strike reaction but it's definitely easier once you get onto a bit of a roll.
Greybacks were a strain of fish we used to get late season in the river nith annan and some in the tweed but they were real big all over 20 pounds and usually caught fresh they look quite different to an ordinary back end fish but sadly there long gone
Well done, 90% of the people fishing with a sling are unable to let it go when the fish take but you did so props:) I do it another way but the effect is the same. i make a cast and lower the break on the reel until the river pull line from the reel then tighten it click by click until the river cant pull anymore line out. The result is that when i get a take the fish just pull line and by the time i can hook it it has already turned and i hook it in the scissors. I already know how many clicks i want to add to the break when fighting the fish so thats easy no mather the size of the fish. It doesent mather how you do it as long as what you are doing is letting the fish turn before you hook it.
Horses for courses I suppose. I was taught to fish like that but prefer to hold a loop. It feels natural now and I don't feel that urge to strike anymore when I feel the first enquiry of the fish.
13 1/2 lb exactly as per the McLean's weigh net it was landed in. Not that it matters a bit to me but appearances can often be deceptive in life. I'm sorry that it prevented your enjoyment of the video.

"Things can only get better" (hopefully)!
Cheers
Nice one Rob, lets hope 2024 is a good season.
Thanks, I'm sure it will be. I for one can't wait to try out a few new techniques.
Nice fish that man. I reckon it's those lovely scons you make that's making the difference. Cheers mate.
I think it's all the sacrifices I've been making to the river under a full moon! Cheers

Cheers, couple more to go from last year than we shall see what spring brings.
Yeah had last season off due to broken shoulder thinking about trying pitlochery back end of march early April
Well done- that fish gave a good account of itself- in good nick for so late in the season I'd say.
Thanks, there were a lot of fish that ran very late on that particular river. Fish were seen running well into November

I was talking to someone about these late season Nith grey backs recently. Monsters. Described to me as so late in the year the season was finished ?
Thanks for clearing that up.
Hiya mate cracking video we're in the North East is it I fish the river wear
That was the Wear mate
Thought I recognised Ollie’s voice. You on the Wear?
Yes I was that time, Ollie happened to be guiding a client that day and came for a look.
You didn’t get bit until you stopped fussing with your fly and let it swing uninterrupted
That is true

Not that time, River Wear
@@abakerslife good man
If you think that was 13 /14 lb you need too get some scales , I could be wrong but IMO that was not even in double figures 🤷♂️
