Hi Rob, Can I just tell you mate how brilliant your videos are! They’ve helped keep the juices flowing over the bleak winter and now can’t wait to get out on the river. I’m your Irish equivalent in terms of salmon obsession, relatively recent convert (5-6 years), heartbreak and elation and invocation of spirit of salmon 😂. Envious of your culinary skills and ability to fix things (I’m a disaster). I do manage to catch a fair few salmon though Anyway keep making the movies - they are first class and make me laugh out loud. Best of luck to you and Karla for season and if you ever fancy a trip to west of Ireland for salmon - let me know, it’s good fun here. Niall
Thanks for the great comment Nial. I'm glad the videos have tickled.your fancy. I do plan to have a trip Ireland because I have a suspicion that I would really like it. The restrictions about travelling across with dogs now means that it won't be for a while. Tight lines for 2024.
You’d love it Rob. Fun, a few drinks and people who don’t take life too seriously.. There’s still very good fishing here. Dog restrictions not too onerous, needs: a microchip. a rabies vaccination & an animal health certificate or pet passport. Anyway some day soon, and we will catch a few fish and have some craic. Til then I’ll watch the videos with interest. N
Good video, I fished Horsbrugh on Sat 4th Nov, there was loads off fish jumping, but not interested in my offerings, that was my last day, but it's a new season, with new dreams ,tight lines m8.
I was there two days later. I blanked but my mate caught. I think by that point my heart wasn't in it anymore after a long season. Tight lines yourself. I'm yet to have a cast this year but maybe I might have a couple of hours this week.
Hi, just found this on UA-cam, anyway, season 2022 I was at Yair and fished it for a day, then Alan gave us a tour in his buggy. On looking at you video for that day see you have my rod and my mates rod resting on the rack in the video, plus a flash of my red car through the passenger window. Now watching this video clip and your casting is good, however a left hand uppermost would be an advantage fishing this rh bank, took me a good while to get my left hand casting going and now on certain days prefer it and no issues whichever bank Ifish, Try this cast, all fingers and thumbs in the beggining, success will come good luck, Ill be at the BFFI this year
Thanks, I had a lesson initially but along the way I picked up pointers from a couple of different gillies. I'm adequate at best though I just look better than I am because I edit the worst casts out!
I see Karla had a wee grin after she knew your were safely up the bank 😅. She looked pretty concerned before. Its easy to get your line stuck in trees if its near deep water it can get worse quite quickly. The Tweed is a lovely river to fish isn't it. I had my first go on it last year I will definitely be back.
Karla thinks I'm a fool, for real. She looks at me with a look of sheer contempt for standing in the water and waving a rod about all day. The Tweed is pretty cool but tbh that stretch didn't tickle my fancy.
@abakerslife I fished at the yair I enjoyed that stretch just timed it a few weeks late. The only time I could manage though. My two dogs swim out to me they are too used to fetching sticks and balls from the river so they think it's a game to get my line when I'm fishing.
I need to buy you a fire extinguisher for that van. I've given up with shooting heads and running lines, I found my wet hands and the running line a pain to handle. , have a look at the composite lines from Gaelforce or Rio. Its a tapered effect from the main head of the line into the running line. And Just fish that with a combination of different tips (loop to loop) Ive had both and am currently using the Gaelforce on my 13 footer, and it is excellent.
I have an integrated shooting head gaelforce line, far and away the best line I’ve ever used,so much so i have just replaced my other two lines with the shorter head gaelforce line
Don't worry I've got a fire extinguisher in there, I carry all kinds of safety equipment on board (alongside a healthy store of beer). I'd given uo on shooting heads too which is why I got a Rio integrated line which disintegrated immediately. I contacted Rio and unprompted they offered to replace it but that was 6 months ago and despite multitudes of increasingly surreal emails back and forth they still haven't sent the replacement. The latest update is that because the original scandi outbound line isn't available they are sending me a shooting head and running line combo. I'm actually starting to think they are either a: idiots or b: taking the p***
@@abakerslife Have a look at the Gaelforce Equalizer short head - integrated shooting heads, Ive got the #10 600gr -39ft floater. My rod is a 9/10 13'6". Goes really well. Based in Glasgow.....Excellent service etc.
From the colour of both the head and running line on the spool, that floating line looks like one of John Norris’s Atlantic integrated spey heads. I have one and for the price it is excellent, but no longer available. I also note you cut off the integrated running line and looped to loop the head to your own running line. Why?
Well to tell you the truth I'd spent the previous evening putting new backing and running line onto the reel to accommodate the head that I normally Since the floating line was only a temporary installation I decided I didn't want to remove the running line on the reel and cut the head. Probably didn't think that one through really but hey ho.
Thanks, I wouldn't have thought a ticket would be very expensive. I'm in a club that has a couple on rods on that beat twice a week so I didn't have to buy a ticket. There is decent value to be had on the upper Tweed though.
Do you have an Instagram account? Love the content started my own journey yesterday with my first blank suppose I should get used to it. Just being out at first light on the river is a reward on its own 👌🏻
....you've more beats than the Tweed!! 😁
Great to see you fishing with Caorach too!! 😂😂
Well spotted!
Sweeeeeet!! Keep’em coming man! Loving it
Cheers, only a couple more to go then I'm going to have to go fishing again.
O yes another great video, no fish, but it looks like a good dish and some dance moves 👍👍👊
When the fishing is poor the drinking makes up for it!

Small world, thanks for the tip.
Another cracking video. Your casting is really sweet. Did you have any lessons and if so with who?Keep the vids coming Rob 👌

@@Gamefishing111 Yes they are impressive lines. I have a Rio switch chucker on my switch rod, it will get replaced with a Gaelforce line.

I think the look on Carla’s face said it all Rob 😅
She thinks I'm an idiot, she just cannot grasp why I want to be standing in the river anyway waving about that big stick.
Your line tangle was a “True cluster F*^k!!!” You’re a better man than me!!!!
It was ridiculous really I'm not sure how I didn't fall in!
That's some meal you cooked there pal. On the hoof but turned out the business
Nothing like a hard day blanking to give you an appetite.

No I'm not one for Instagram. Where were you fishing? I haven't been out myself yet for a cast.
