Really helpful comparison! Of course I just replaced my old Govee light strip with BTF COB white only strips as my primary office lighting... and now there's two great options in these new Govee pro and cob strips lol

Hi Chris! Great comparison as always. Wondering about the splicing possibilities of the 2 pro version? At what interval does the light strip enable copper points for soldering? If I’m not mistaken, the M1 has soldering points every 50 cm or 100 cm? From the pictures there seems to be a lot of cutting possibilities but no solder points?
Not sure what strips you were looking at but I just bought the Govee COB and it's not bright at all when it comes to white light, and doesn't really stand out when it comes to RGB. The Pautix COB LED that I bought at the same time is a much brighter white light and it cost me 1/3 the price. The Govee COB is pretty much the exact same brightness as the Govee RGBIC Strip Light 2 Pro, you just get a defusing strip on top with the Govee COB. I'm
Great job! That was a lot of work and is much appreciated. I will probably watch a few more times for the comparisons, but for the most part I agreed with your assessment. Admittedly I like the ease of the COB, but the Pro was really nice.
Hmmm I’m looking at adding some shop lighting to my garage and the cob strip might actually be the way to go lol. Bright enough and CRI enough to be normal lights but it would also be cool to have the party option lol
He did mention CRI above 90, but I cannot find that number mentioned anywhere in writing. I am also looking to upgrade my shop light above my workbench.
I'd like to see a comparison with the new Nanoleaf HD strips. I'm assuming those are 5V since each LED is individually addressable, which could make it amazing for animations.
Do you think the Pros with Govee's software are overall better than using a high quality RGB strip (WS2811 or something like that) with WLED? I kind of torn between getting the Govee solution or building my own strip with a diffuser.
If I could buy the cob pro in Australia I would. I recently bought muzata corner channel diffusers, large meanwell led drivers, athom wled controller and btf cob led strips. All this is more expensive than the govee cob all in one, and it's also a lot more time consuming and difficult to get working. Govee plug and play can't be beat. It looks very slim and bright. My only concern would be the minimum brightness possible being too bright for my bedroom. Too late for me anyway I bought the diy kit before this govee pro came out, and even if I wanted it I'd have to buy it from the UK and use a plug adapter.
Hi Chris, I'd be keen to know if you can cut the Strip Light Pro 2 and extend it with some 18 gauge wire or something similar. I've already connected two strips in series with no apparent voltage drop. Just curious if you've had any luck creating an LED "air gap" at all?
Great video. I’m looking at installing some glovee lights under my kitchen work tops including an island. Can I cut and use corner hippo style clips to create bends on the pros?
You should have labeled the different strips so they would have been superimposed (visible) on the video while you were testing them. The video was hard to follow which strip was which.
Thanks for the great feedback! I just uploaded a new video with the names on the screen to make it easier to follow. Hope it helps! ua-cam.com/video/osev40WiIL8/v-deo.html
@@ChrisMaherDIY Thank you for making the update! I really enjoy your videos. You are THE go-to resource for string/strip smart-home lighting. Well done on this vid as always.
I have the diffuser with cover from Govee, but I was very disappointed in the brightness, otherwise its a really nice and easy light to set up. I have the M1 strip with a diffuser, in my room as the main light, that I bought and its amazing and very bright. So spend the extra money and go with new pro strip, and buy a diffuser for it if you're going for that strip being your main light.
U109 channels have been “unavailable” on Amazon for several weeks now. Are they that much better than the U108? I have several of the latter on hand, not sure if it’s worth delaying this kitchen lighting project
Might I suggest changing the description from "Diffuser with Cover" to something like "Govee LED Strip with Covers"? I clicked on it about 3 times trying to find the diffusers you used before realizing that was the next link in the list. You do have both the Amazon and Govee links, so it was apparent to me what it meant, but it was still confusing when checking out the links. Outside of that - great comparison video!
Hello. I see u know many things about Govee products. Is there any method to connect approx 30 meters of Govee strip lights ? I want to attach them arround the ceiling in the living room. I have power cable in the corner of the ceiling specialy for the led strip . Pls answer 🙏
This looks awesome. Which are better to control, WLED or Gove? Any chance I can reach out for advice on a studio build I'm doing? I would like to use your knowledge.
Can the new Pro strips be separated and then soldered back together with cable and plug? I would like to distribute the 10 meter version over different pieces of furniture and still be able to separate them with plugs if I have to move them.
Hi Chris. Are you able to cut & extend either the Pro 2 or COB strips? Like you showed in video: Govee M1 - Cutting / Reconnecting LED Strip with Different Length Wires. I'm building a slat wall and would like the LEDs in between but I don't want to have a controller for each strip. Instead, wire from top to bottom of each strip (x3) to create a continuous length. I'd prefer to keep with Govee, as I have a few other products and love the app and all the features.
thank you for the great content! for non-govee strips do you have a recommended alternative to the MagWLED controller? they appear to be sold out currently
i love it that you compare and review and show sooo many different LED strips. with your videos i made my diffused indirect desktop background lighting and its just nice (but i wanna do something new after 21 month xD) so thanks for this video! i used the m1 strips and if i redo some parts or the whole setup i might jump to the pro for better brightness and smoothness. 🙌🖖
I love the idea you shown using a led strip for my super dark staircase going to my basement. The Govee cob was your recommendation for something to be used as a primary light source. It's kinda expensive would you have any budget friendly alternative recommendations for the exact same use case?
Those COB lights look amazing. Is there any way to get super thick RGBICW COB lights without a controller? I'd love to hook those up to an WLED controller
This was exactly what I was looking for. My question is how did you get that animation to go from the corner? I would love to get mine to start at the corner of my room.
With the new Strip Light 2 Pro what is the longest option they are going to offer? I would love to use these in places like my living room. but I would need over 70 feet and for them to synch as one long series.
Ahh but which is the best when reconnecting the strips together? I like how the pro has cut marks every 4cm but I noticed that there were no connections there.
I am thinking of getting the govee strip light 2 pro to fit wrap around the edges of my celling wall. I would like to know if several of the light strips can be connected together as one?
in your opinion would the Cob ones be good for under kitchen cabinet lighting? My Cabinets don't have anything at the bottom to cover a led strip and the cob does look kind of clean, the issue is then just the brightness and whether it's nice enough to do kitchen work in. i currently have ones that are cheap cob lights and i can see them blink in the corner of my eyes (not power issue, just old leds i'm sure), and are ugly but at least i don't stand in the way of my own light source when cooking.
I used to have LED strips under my desks but I trashed them when I remodeled some time ago. I'm really interested in something like this but that I can also control via home automation (Home Assistant and/or Hubitat). Is this a good set for that? Up to now, I've been preparing of going down the path of buying generic strips of some sort and controlling them with WLED32 and a control board. Thanks in advance.
Hey Chris, this was a great video and clearly took a lot of work. Thanks for helping us LED lovers make good product choices! Quick question - What is the width of the new COB light (with the diffuser removed)? Would you consider doing a quick teardown video and maybe posting it as a short? I'm starting to do custom light installs for clients and would like to consider this as my new default for LED lighting. Thank you!
Hi Chris, great video What are the dimensions of the silicone tubing that houses the cob strip? I've got an 18mm channel in some base boards, wondered if it'd fit? Thanks
I’m preparing for a new install in a game room. I bought 2 16’ light strips but need to start both just behind my TV and run in opposite directions. I’m assuming I can sync these in dream view and sort them in an order that would allow me to run a streak from start to finish correct? So basically can I tell the app what order the lights are in or will the starting point always be at the power source?
@ChrisMaherDIY i just bought 3 16 ft rolls and a 32 ft pack of the new govee pro 2 lights . Ive never done this before and im not sure what kind of connectors and wire to buy to jump my breaks and connect the wires. Can u give me advice?
Thanks for the comparison. Helped make me a decision. Do you know if the pro lights 2 can be cut and reconnected the same way you done in another video with the M1's? I need a total 10m run but need to cut at 2m then a run of 8m. Thanks
Thanks for watching! You should be able to do the same at the solder points but those are the same as the m1 and I believe about 20 inches apart so it's potentially hard to do a custom install if you can only stick to the solder points for cutting and adding in some wire.
@@ChrisMaherDIY thanks for answering Chris! They will be paired with vshape 30x30x2000 spotless Muzata-like channels. I found out an Italian producer, unfortunately Muzata don't ship to EU. Do you think also smaller vshape channels could be fine with those stripes?🙏
I have an L shaped desk that has also a waterfall edge on one side. Would it be the COB light strip be flexible enough to cover the side of the waterfall edge (I am thinking of sticking it on the side that one touches)? Btw awesome video
Can you use the new pro light strip and run 2 of them ( 1 left to right and the other right to left so you can buy the end up to each other ) and then run the Govee effects across both but have it look like 1 big effect? Like have it start at the far left, run to the end, then have it continue on the 2nd strip starting at the end and running to the far right? Basically having 2 strips run the same effect but reverse one strip so the effect would look like it's running around, all in the same direction, across 2 strips? I hope I'm explaining myself/asking this the right way so you get what I'm asking.
I would love to know how you controlled all these, Are they connected to one controller? I would love to do a media room similar to your computer room but I dont want to have a million controllers and apps for everything.
Thanks so much for this! Super helpful!! FYI: Will say the Amazon links in your description box don’t match the headings (at least for me!) i.e. Govee 2 Pro took me to Philips Hue.
@ChrisMaherDIY hi, I cannot find somehow any of corners for this specific enlarged U-shape diffusers. Any chances you can PM link to it? Also saw comments in amazon that ppl cannot find any corners for this m108 model
It's really weird how off the color is on camera when you installed the light in the hallway above the stairs. In person, I know that around 4500k is soft warm, but in the video it looked quit cold already. These do give a ton of light. Wowsers
Chris, are you able to get the BTF Lighting Cob 720 16.5 to work with a ESP32 controller? I can't get the flickering to stop with a 12v PSU and ESP32 on a separate 5volt power supply. I've tried the 720, 670 strips, both behave the same way on multiple ESP32s.
Same here. Haven’t installed yet but want to make sure these new ones are able to be cut and spliced together with wire like Chris did on the M1 video.
I literally just got on a chat with Govee asking about cutting and reattaching the New Pro Model. They said they can’t be cut & reattached. Which I doubt but…I just bought the MagWLED-1 & SK6812’s. Was thinking of returning but think I’ll stay the course now. Better safe than sorry I guess.
It is definitely cuttable because they advertise it, and it has the scissors symbol on it. I agree with support in the reuniting, that is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. My M1 have soder points where I can reuniting them together. The Pro version doesn't seem to have them.
What controller do you recommend for 1500 leds (60 leds/m X 25 meters)? I currently use esp32 wled but it is a bit slow on the animations (low fps) and laggy.
I am by far a straight noob but I am wondering why you insist on the trim pieces? Is it more aesthetically appealing or does it make the light look better? Or both

thank you for the great content! for non-govee strips do you have a recommended alternative to the MagWLED controller? they appear to be sold out currently
i love it that you compare and review and show sooo many different LED strips. with your videos i made my diffused indirect desktop background lighting and its just nice (but i wanna do something new after 21 month xD) so thanks for this video! i used the m1 strips and if i redo some parts or the whole setup i might jump to the pro for better brightness and smoothness.
🙌🖖
For under cabinet lighting, we have a direct line to 120V (hard wired). Would this work for that situation or would you recommend another strip?
Can you cut the cob lights and extend them with wires to get to a different location.
Can you cut and extend the COB Light Pro or use WLED?
curious what tubing did u use for the walls thats kinda like what I wanna do for my home cinema room
Great video!
Damn govee is on a whole differnt level here. Love the curtains as well.
Curious what your thoughts are on Govee's app ethics/security? This is mainly why I don't buy their stuff but I love the products and prices.
How many LEDs are there per controllable zone? Last time i got Govee 24 volt I had horrible addressability
What is the width of the COB lights. GOVEE hasn’t released the dimensions which is frustrating
Thank you!
Amazing videos, content and very informative. I truly enjoy watching all you videos, what would you recommend for under tv shelf lighting?
Excuse me sir i would love to know what camera you are shooting your b-roll with? it looks amazing !
Hi Chris, great video What are the dimensions of the silicone tubing that houses the cob strip? I've got an 18mm channel in some base boards, wondered if it'd fit? Thanks
Great video. Chris, are you able to cut and reconnect these Pros with wire like you do in your M1 video?
So can this cob strip just be purchased as a stripped and used with WLED?
might use the cob strip for under my kitchen cabinets it has matter so can turn it on and off with my home assistant and a zigbee button
The review i looking for! Thanks! Do you think 2 pro worth the money compared to the m1?
Thanks for watching! Yes the pro 2 is definitely worth it. Better white, better color accuracy and better animations.
Can you cut and extend the COB like you did the M1 lightstrips?
Is the part at 9:53 in slow motion? The 6 LED groups are quite visible with some animations
@chrismaherdiy Can you chain together the cob lights one to another for a 48 foot run?
Do the pro get dimmer than the Govee strip light with cover
Matter over Thread or Matter over WiFi?
Random question but where did you find those pixel art screensavers on your TV?
Thanks for watching! Search for 8bit lofi on UA-cam :)
@@lucylovehart thanks for watching! I'm in the US and the links are all working for me. Are you in the US as well?!
@ChrisMaherDIY hi, I cannot find somehow any of corners for this specific enlarged U-shape diffusers. Any chances you can PM link to it? Also saw comments in amazon that ppl cannot find any corners for this m108 model
I still think your diy stairs leds takes home the gold
It's really weird how off the color is on camera when you installed the light in the hallway above the stairs. In person, I know that around 4500k is soft warm, but in the video it looked quit cold already. These do give a ton of light. Wowsers
Chris, are you able to get the BTF Lighting Cob 720 16.5 to work with a ESP32 controller? I can't get the flickering to stop with a 12v PSU and ESP32 on a separate 5volt power supply. I've tried the 720, 670 strips, both behave the same way on multiple ESP32s.
I just got M1 and installed them… should I take it off and change it to the strip light 2 pro one and hopefully attempt a refund?
I’m in the same boat cut diffuser channels and everything. Commenting so hopefully I can get an opinion on this too
Same here. Haven’t installed yet but want to make sure these new ones are able to be cut and spliced together with wire like Chris did on the M1 video.
i wanna get all of them and install them like you did because I like the animation effect looool
Whats the width and depth of the cob light strip pro?
I literally just got on a chat with Govee asking about cutting and reattaching the New Pro Model. They said they can’t be cut & reattached. Which I doubt but…I just bought the MagWLED-1 & SK6812’s. Was thinking of returning but think I’ll stay the course now. Better safe than sorry I guess.
It is definitely cuttable because they advertise it, and it has the scissors symbol on it. I agree with support in the reuniting, that is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. My M1 have soder points where I can reuniting them together. The Pro version doesn't seem to have them.
is the thing displaying pixel art a TV or some kind of digital wallpaper
What controller do you recommend for 1500 leds (60 leds/m X 25 meters)? I currently use esp32 wled but it is a bit slow on the animations (low fps) and laggy.
can I cut the COB lights and relink them ?
I am by far a straight noob but I am wondering why you insist on the trim pieces? Is it more aesthetically appealing or does it make the light look better? Or both
