All really good ideas. It can be difficult on some days...as I have a full time job. AND when doing research it can be so interesting that at times I find myself going down many 'rabbit holes'. hahahaha
Thank you! This couldn't be done at a more appropriate time, for me anyway! I just wasted the whole morning doing more sourcing......I have a huge death pile/retirement pile....I am going to stop sourcing until next year! Listing, Listing, Listing......! Today is Nov. 14th.....beginning tomorrow through Nov. 30th I am going to be listing like the "Mad Reseller of Pennsy!" All Christmas items FIRST and FINISHED by Nov. 20th! I'll regroup after that goal is reached! Onward, Troops!
I love the basket idea. It reminds me of James Clear's Atomic Habits. Small steps. We put some things to list in a small basket and set it in the living room. Its less overwhelming yet a reminder of what needs to be done.
I am OVERWHELMED with items that need processed. Now it's so huge i don't have room to take pics without a pile falling over. Will be taking notes on any advice you have to give.
Hi..I just came across this video and I'm so Thankful that I have.. I've been selling on Ebay for the past 4 years in between dealing with cancer.. But I'm now in remission and want to get my business in full speed ..I'm just lacking the motivation to make it happen.. I'm going to accept your challenge and definitely implement your basket tips.. I look forward to more videos to come and seeing where this challenge puts me in the next 3 weeks..😊
I post at least 5 a day. I have a fulltime job so pt reseller. I do sometimes post more than that. Just list daily. The older I get the harder it gets. But I will keep doing what I can. Don't beat yourself up about it. I list the same time every day. I also do drafts first and then upload photos and edit. Which is my favorite to do in the evening.
I’m in! When I watched your video, I realized my workplace teaches a lot of the kind of ideas you mentioned (making goals visible, setting reasonable daily or weekly goals, building excitement by celebrating successes with others, etc.) Don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to apply these principles to reselling! (Or organizing Christmas tasks, or housework…) Thanks for the challenge!
I like your new structure! However, I wonder if there’s a way you can also focus on the items with high sell through rate (hi STR)? Maybe make a challenge to yourself after doing a research video to go grab the 2-3 items from your own inventory or death pile and list and / or improve your listings that you’ve already created (see if there are any that you could key word better)? Maybe only when you do a research video? You WILL follow through IF YOU MAKE IT A PRIORITY!!! You’ve got this!!! I’m so excited to see the increase in your Q4 sales!
Good idea! Will definitely keep that in mind as I fill my basket. I'll probably have a mix of hard to list, easy to list, high value and low value. I do need to follow up the research videos a lot quicker as well. Thanks for the suggestions!
My newest setback, first of all I'm part-time, is the massive leak we found in our 2nd bedroom. This room has become a catchall, craft, extra ebay stuff, things we want to keep but don't have a designated space for room so I'm not in there a lot. My husband went in to look for an item we had borrowed from my brother in law and suddenly there was screaming coming from the room. Worried that my husband had gotten hurt trying to get around. It was a leak in the closet that had been going for so long slowly that the outside wall was molded half way up. Our water heater is on the exterior wall and the connection between the copper and the plastic pex. The pex was dry and had split. Almost the entire room was flooded, which must have just recently happened. We've had two other leaks in the 9 years in our house that we had built with a "reputable" builder, who claimed the first 2 leaks, for which we lost water damage I surface over, are under our 2 year warranty. Knowingly using old yellowed pex is NOT a warranty issue. Anyway long story less long, the wall between the bedroom and the living room may be a complete loss. Just in time for the holidays. So listing has not been priority this past week. Thanks for letting us all know we are human and are more often than not "squirrels" lol!
I can so relate to the "Am I just unorganized or am I completely overwhelmed?" I start the day with high expectations and end it with hoping tomorrow will be better. Zooming out and seeing the big picture helps. Having people come to work on my home was another huge wake up call. Way too much stuff to run from room to room! Thanks for sharing all your strategies. It's nice to know we're facing the same struggles.
Thanks for sharing. I know there are super efficient resellers and I applaud them but I think maybe they are the minority! I know I won't ever be like that so I have to stop comparing and just do the best with what I have to work with, lol
Thank you for sharing your ideas. I’ve had success in time blocking for other tasks (like house cleaning) and seeing what can I accomplish in a half hour if I go full tilt. Thinking, I can do anything for a half hour no matter how much I’d rather not do it. In addition to this, I find taking photos slows me down. So, if I spend my time block on photo taking, I can use the photos as my “items to list next” working in the evening from the comfort of my couch. When I take photos, I add photos of the item on the scale and with a ruler so I have the info when I list. I’m in! Thank you!
I'm in on the challenge and it's so very timely as I have just gotten back from a trip and decided after this catch up on the rest of my life week I need to get my focus back. Making lists is my go to to keep doing the small things to make it to the bigger goals. And time blocking works for me. I like the basket idea; curating a week of items sounds like a good strategy.
I use all my auctions and schedule listings out every hour for the 3 weeks they allow. It took me months to get there but now I don't feel like a failure if I can't list because its done and there is activity in my store every hour of every day. Most of my items don't sell at auction[some do] but thats OK because I use my unsold listings to restock my scheduled listings. I also use drafts when I have reached my limit of scheduled listings. I list one lot at a time and I try to list a few each hour so I can still get my other obligations taken care of...plus my butt hurts sitting for so long. Hope this helps.
Okay...so many questions! This is quite the strategy! So when you list daily...are those listings going to the end of the scheduled queue? And that day your previously scheduled auctions are launching? If something doesn't sell at auction...do you list at full price? Do you ever do Auction with a Buy It Now? And lastly...do you just start your auctions at a price you're happy with?
I try to put 1 listing up for each hour of the day..one day at a time. I pick up at the time I finished the day before. It takes me a while to reach the 3 week limit since I try to list 28 a day.. I start my auctions at the price I want and I do use the Buy it now function. If it doesn't sell I do list it at full price. The scheduled listings that don't sell are basically my draft bank which I use when life gets in the way and I can't list. My goal is to not feel guilty about being unable to list. The stuff will sell eventually.
I’m with you on the listing process. I do one item at a time start to finish and it’s more rewarding/enjoyable for me that way. I realise it’s not as efficient but it’s more motivating so I don’t dread doing it.
I like your idea. I’m a part time reseller because I teach full time, so I have to have a a daily to-do list of things that must get done when I get home. On that list is usually photograph and list a few items most night (focusing on flatware and Christmas right now). Thanks to your flatware Friday videos, I found some WMF Cromargan Japan Nortica flatware and listed it last week. Sold 3 dinner spoons for $78 today (paid 64 cents for them). Thank you!
I will be joining you on this challenge. I've really gotten picky in what I source so I have more quality items and not things that end up in the re donate pile. Quality over quantity!
I hear you! All your weaknesses are my weaknesses. I do the tally thing on my calendar. I don’t think it’s diagnosable, but if it is, I have it! Looking forward to following along!
I have organized my profit pile into boxes. I get really distracted and overwhelmed when everything is piled up. If I can see a lot I start cherry picking. I think the boxes will help me stay on track. Just grab a box and list what is in it. I’m up for the listing challenge.
thanks for the idea about the chart. I like visual paper trackers that I can check off. I have a list of 12 reselling tasks I try to do daily written in my inventory/sales notebook. I think I'll create a similar chart to print off and add to the notebook. I also do a spreadsheet on the computer, so maybe this is overkill.
The hardest thing for me is actually deciding what I am going to list, I have a lot of different things that need listed but I find it extremely difficult to just pick what am going to list,
I do agree with that too. I think I mentioned also I have to be careful not too fill the basket too much! Once I start picking items to add...I'm afraid I'll overdo it because of what I think needs to be listed all at once! lol
It's hard when it's dark. Good luck to you. I have too much to do and not enough time. I work a job, have an antique booth, and trying to sell on ebay. Looking forward to your follow up videos.
I love challenges lol I do the one every month with Reselling Resource Center Group Also Amber Resells did a great idea with drawing items that need to be listed from a jar It does give you parameters when you draw from the jar lol One of my biggest struggles is trying to increase listings on EBay I hate putting in tags so when I crosspost I tend to draft and save and it just piles up
I’m in because I like a challenge with other people. We should have code names like first pet’s name and street we grew up on. That would make me Lady Bryan, yeah, I forced that. My 3 things are 1) finish setting up item storage, 2) list daily, 3) only thrift items I will list that week, 4) every 5th listing has to be personal.
Oh no, I’ve been undone by auto correct, Killer Dorothy. I’m Lady Bryn, not Bryan. I’m Arthurian and you’re Cyberpunk. Was your first pet an alligator? Yes, I started this to transition our unneeded items to new homes, like toys, clothes and stuff. But sourcing is so much fun and abundant where I live. One trick that works for me is I say I’ll do one thing, just 1 easy thing, which leads to 10.
I try not do list All The Things because I’ll burn out. Limiting it to five at a time is helpful because you do get the algorithm working for you but you also work within your process.
The struggle is real! It's good to recognize the barriers to being productive, e.g. boredom when listing a number of the same items, overthinking (me, too!) I think your chart will help. You might consider another weekly chart where you block out time for reselling, but all your other time commitments. You can then see at a glance all your time "uses". You probably do have too much to do! So this 2nd chart can also be used to prioritize, and then you can move time blocks around to attempt to get everything done or remove something based on priority. The basket is a good idea and I think I'll give that a go. Rather than listing 10 items, I often will shoot for listing a certain dollar amount per day. I think we all need to give ourselves grace as we never get as much done as we feel we should😅
You are correct! We never do! The joys of working from home...it's hard to walk away from it or feel "done". Wouldn't have it any other way, though. Thanks for the other weekly chart idea as well...I'll give that some thought!
Great info as always Shannon! Thank you. I am extremely interested to hear why Mercari would have shut your account down though? would love to know what happened !?!?
We were trying to make some changes with the name and what bank account we deposited to. Mr Pish Posh was going to use it for selling Lego. We answered all the questions such as whether the changes were by us, etc. But didn’t matter. Immediate shut down and no answer to Mace’s email. We could try following it up with social media but it’s not really worth it. Unfortunately I’ve heard so many stories like this for both Mercari and Depop. Hard to work with because they mostly have bots running things.
Another comment lol In the early morning before others are awake I look at the items ending per day and update those that are beyond a certain date It has helped sell those Crossposting as I list works best for me And I am going to narrow down my niches to focus on but will still be an all things seller. I end my day at 430 PM I am dead by 3 but use that time to put my listings in groups I am so guilty of overwhelming myself
When we do our delist/relist...I usually sort my Ebay listings to either show my oldest listings or I do like you...see what's ending/renewing soon and see if it's old enough to redo. :) Sounds like we're on the same page.
My downfall seems to be inadequate preparation. I inevitably find a fixable flaw in an item while I’m listing, such as a stain that needs to be treated. This throws me off as I decide whether I want to list it at all and what to list instead when I haven’t set up a proper lineup. I need to more actively set aside time for prep work because once I hit a snag in listing, my morale and motivation plummet and I’m done for the day. I think the basket system would alleviate this, as I am do a QC of the items as they go in the basket. It also makes me plan ahead for the season.
Yes i'm definitely going to have to set aside sufficient time to prep the items (remove stickers, etc) as they go into the basket. Or it'll slow the whole thing down. Sometimes that light when photographing is what reveals everything though! lol
I said at the end of the last one that I will continue Flatware Friday but it won't be weekly. I have another fun series that I was wanting to start and don't have time for both every week! Stay tuned!
I have no problem listing. I tend to list 10 items a day, 5 days a week. I save drafts for the other 2 days. I have a problem getting things organized. It’s getting better. Right now we are being extremely selective in our sourcing because we have do much in our profit pile. One more thing. We really struggle with the photographs. Our lighting is not the best, the location is poor. We struggle to even clear a space for taking good photos. This is the lost time consuming part of listing for us. It’s not that we cannot take good photos, it’s that we are living in my late daughter’s home who was an eBay reseller, with all her inventory & collectibles. We finally did our fourth clear out that was picked up for donation but space is still limited.
Taking all the comments lol I use several boxes that fit on a shelf One is labeled 1 3 the second is 2 5 the third is 4 6 I put items for each of my 3 stores no more than 10 items in each box List "1" then move the box to the end and put 10 new in Next day is "2" do the 10 move to the end and refill etc etc I don't have any other inventory to look at where I keep the boxes
Hey! Is your Etsy pattern shop just patterns? If it's too difficult to keep enough patterns listed for one store... maybe just have the one Etsy shop with a pattern section. That would eliminate one store to keep up with but you can still list and sell your patterns as time permits.
I have thought about that in the past...I will revisit it. The other Etsy shop we actively use is mostly run by Mr Pish Posh. It had a certain vibe going (more guy stuff) but we don't care much about that anymore...We'll see! Thanks for the idea!
Im trying to do more crossposting. Im mostly selling on poshmark canada. Its so easy. I dont have to worry about shipping. I have listings on ebay but ive only sold 3 things there. Figuring out what to put is a bit scary. Ive watched lots of videos on shipping but everyone seems to do it a bit different and it gets a bit overwhelming to be honest. Plus im struggling with when to start winding things down. We will be escaping winter in January and we will be gone for 10 weeks. So im struggling with when i should call it quits..and im probably overthinking it. Also because of your videos ive looked beyond the clothes and sourced from the baggie wall. Some random things like flatware, a bag of hair accessories and patterns. I hate this time of year, i wake up in the dark and its dark so early. Time change has messed me up. Sorry for writing a book.
Write as much as you'd like! lol. I hope you're escaping winter to somewhere fun! You're in Canada? Wish I could help with shipping but I'm sure it's a bit different. We tend to just use calculated shipping. Put in the size of the box or package and the weight and let Ebay calculate based on the buyer's location. After awhile you get to where you can estimate box size pretty accurately. I agree though, Poshmark is easy!
@pishposhreselling Ive watched a few different Canadian resellers videos on it. Most seem to use flat rate shipping. So i calculate a few different scenarios and kind of average a cost. Its funny its actually cheaper for me to ship to the states than within Canada. I guess just because canada post is more expensive. And yes we are headed to the Caribbean. We are divers. Our weather has really been great but the last few days have been cooler. I dont like the cold as much as I used to. Oh one more question. So I got a bunch of hair accessories on the baggie wall. If you google lens them and someone else has posted the same one as "vintage" do it assume they know what they are talking about. My research has come up empty except for others listings.
@@nancykennedy9397 Are they marked at all? Like can you see Taiwan or anything that would indicate an age? Sometimes I go with vintage because I know the newer pieces are not as well made and I can tell the quality of the older stuff if that makes sense. Have fun diving!
@pishposhreselling no markings at all. And i kinda figured if they were newer I would probably find something on them. But nothing except the listings on etsy
All really good ideas. It can be difficult on some days...as I have a full time job. AND when doing research it can be so interesting that at times I find myself going down many 'rabbit holes'. hahahaha
Gotta leave time for research!! It's so true! Especially when i list my vintage!
Thank you! This couldn't be done at a more appropriate time, for me anyway! I will look that up! Thanks! Gotta keep the basket visible!
I’m totally overwhelmed. I struggle with prioritizing. And just when I feel like I gain a little ground - I go sourcing.😮
lol! It’s true!
This past week I’ve been concentrating on delisting and delisting all Christmas items. I’m only halfway through.
I am OVERWHELMED with items that need processed. Now it's so huge i don't have room to take pics without a pile falling over. Will be taking notes on any advice you have to give.

You’re welcome! And thanks for the confirmation these are legit strategies!
If there's any time to eat, breathe and sleep reselling, it's Q4! But I agree for most of the year. Love this challenge idea! I'll join you.
Yes well who am I kidding...i think about it a lot..lol...but it's mostly the sourcing side Ha!

yes! I saw @AmberResells jar idea...it gets a certain amount done but does liven it up a little. Gotta have fun!

You are correct! We never do! The joys of working from home...it's hard to walk away from it or feel "done". Wouldn't have it any other way, though. Thanks for the other weekly chart idea as well...I'll give that some thought!
I was on vacation and since being back I've got little motivation to get listing, but know it's super important especially now.
Sometimes it's hard to get the motivation to get started again!!
Sometimes that light when photographing is what reveals everything though! lol
What happened to Flatware Friday? I had just found those videos and actually bought some and actually sold a set!
Yes, I can understand. It's frustrating when one part of the process slows you down.
I like your idea!
You are singing my song. I'm in.
lol! Nice! We can do this!
@@nancykennedy9397well that can be a good sign I guess if Temu or Shein isn’t offering them lol. Shoot me the Etsy link - I’m curious now 😊
I am in on the challenge, get as much listed as possible . I like the basket /container idea! Good luck everyone, let’s get It done 🙏🏼👟🥼👖👛💵💰💵💰
Wonderful! 🎉
Have you had any non branded flatware sell? I have an entire bag of it
Like newer non branded? I’ve sold vintage that’s just marked Stainless Japan or Taiwan
@ no none of it’s been so I’ll give a try and see
Do you have a store on Etsy? I cannot find a listing
We usually have the list of where we sell in the description of each video. Yes we have a pattern shop and a vintage shop that my husband mostly runs
Im afraid if I had a hard copy of things to do and I didnt get things done then there will be a tangible record of my failure, lol. 😊
Lol!! There is that to consider!! How do you think I feel? I get to share my failure with the world. ha ha!
Mercari closed my account too!
Too many bots running the company I think. They actually opened ours back up and said “oops our bad!” lol but now I don’t trust them
