- Who says lightning doesn't strike twice? Here I go again with another Aqueon 55 gallon center brace failure! I'm sure I can get a refund but that doesn't cover the time and effort (and frustration) of tearing down an established tank and transferring everything over to a new set-up! Here's what happened.

Two go bad and break the same way. This has to be a bad batch of 55 gals. I have a topfin 55 gal and I haven’t had any issues so far with it. I am sorry you have to deal with this. I definitely won’t be buying any 55 gal aqueon tanks. Any time soon. That is kind of crazy. Good thing you caught it. Those clamps can handle if you want to move the water level back up. Still sucks to have them on the tank sticking out. You could possibly run into the clamps and that would suck also. Hopefully your order from glass cages gets here soon. When it does remove the quarantine 55 gal one and put the new 55 gal from glass cages and move the planted live bearer tank to the new 55 gal and than move the old 55 gal tank that just broke out and put the other 55 gal from glass cages. You will have to shuffle around fish and plants which kind of suck but temporarily vs a broken center brace.
My LFS employee talked me out of a 55g and said they had problems, and weren't very stable. Talked me into getting a Seapora 48g rimless which I've had for almost 5 years. Thankful for good advice!
I would like to see a repair or preventative bracing video.

Don't buy any Aqueon tanks that require a brace. They will fail.
Sorry to hear about the problems you have with your two fish tank. This is Poor quality and should not happen. They should replace or refund you. It’s not overly difficult to get a glass brace cut , probably cost you $20 for 2 braces , aqua safe silicone , fit the buggas while you have the clamps on and you’re set

We just had a 55 Aqueon do the exact same thing about a month ago. The tank had been up and running since late 2021. We thought it was just a fluke but now after seeing your issues we are worried as we have other Aqueons.
Hey Ben, I've also had 2 55g do this and 1 was a 5 month old Aqueon tank in which center brace broke. Aqueon didn't refund my money because they said it wasn't on a professionally manufactered stand. Everything was on level like all my tanks with no other problems except on the 55 gallons. Almost all my tanks are Aquaeon brand, all good except 55's. I believe it's a defect in those size tanks. With those clamps on I wouldn't stress over the water level. The clamps are 100 times stronger than the plastic strip was. Good luck with it all.

Sorry about your aquariums. I had problems with the glass tanks leaking and the braces breaking. Now I have 2 Acrylic tanks. A 50g and a 60g. I didn't have good luck with glass tanks.
I think it really depends on the quality of the build of the glass tank. The GlassCages tanks are battleships but the thin plastic used at the top of an Aqueon (brace) seems too flimsy and destined to fail eventually. Perhaps my videos will inspire them to use a stronger material?
I believe you can buy replacement top and bottom trim for these aquarium. I understand you shouldn't have to but just a suggestion.
Now I need to race home and see if MY second 55 is still okay considering your first 55 broke the same day as mine. 😮😳🤣

How old are those tanks? I wonder if having them in the garage and contrast and expansion due to weather change may have caused the separation. Just a thought. I have an aqua on 55 gallon tank that is over three years old now, and has been through, a move. And have had no trouble with it. But, I’ve kept it inside since I’ve had it. Good luck, my friend.🐠🦯
Aqueon's center braces are minimal to say the least. I bought a TopFin 55 gallon tank that has 1/2" thick glass and doesn't require any bracing. It truly is built like a tank. They also use Momentive RTV 103 black paste type silicone that is stronger than clear RTV and will last for years and years.
I heard Aquaeon I heard that Aqueon Tanks are notorious for this. But two is frustrating.
I have over 20 Aqueon 75s and prolly ten 60s. Never had this happen yet but I will definitely keep my eyes open. Definitely sounds like a bad run if you purchased them at same time.
I think it's an un level stand or table. People have using foam or rubber mats for this same reason,.
That's been my biggest fear with tanks like that. How were they handled before I buy one?? That center brace wasn't designed to be used as an assist for lifting them. Perhaps it was used that way by who knows how many people before you bought it.

Bad batch! Tanks with glass bracing are much stronger. Hope your new tanks come soon.
I had a 75G Aqueon tank that the frame separated from the glass directly under the center brace. After draining and replacing the tank with a larger one I inspected that area out of pure curiosity. There was little to basically no silicone in 4-5 inches of that area. Thankfully, the plastic didn't break. However, anytime I would fill the tank above a certain point it would leak terribly in that area I
Surprised PetCo has not discontinued selling this product. Certainly not good for their reputation. After 60 years in the hobby all my large tanks are acrylic and my fish room is in the basement to minimize water damage. Have had water rain down from the 2nd floor of my home and refuse to have that experience again.
I loaded my tank up with 500lbs of petrified wood. The tank broke at 3 am. I lost all of my fish. Upon further inspection the tank didn't break on it's own. The stand gave out.
Hey, Ben, thanks for making this video when you did, I was literally about to set up my Aqueon 55 here within the next few weeks. You're video prompted me to look at reviews of the tank, turns out lots of people have this very same issue. I spoke to the owner of my LFS and he said this has always been an issue with the 55s, doesn't matter what brand you get. This leads me to a few thoughts...
#1. Why don't more UA-camrs mention this when they talk about 55s?
#2. This has been an issue for a long time, so why doesn't Aqueon and others not fix this issue?
I had a 90 gal which it did that. The separation actually occured in the center of the brace bewteen the back and front. I kept a close watch for a period of time, not fully appreciating the gravity of what could happen, then bought a 125 and set it up. My luck held out, and I was able to smoothly transfer fish to that tank. Meanwhile, I was able to buy a new top frame brace meant for that size tank for the 90, avail through Amazon. I was able to break loose the silicone bond carefully with a putty knife and use of a hammer to tap it upwards all around edges and remove the old. The new frame readily fit down onto the 90 gal and silicone bead did its job and it bonded well. That former African Cichlid tank is now a large planted community tank and rockin' and rollin' along beside the 125 A.C. Tank!

From the reviews on Petco's website, I just reinforced my Aqueon 55 with aluminum attached with API silicone. Prior to filling with water. I'm hoping for the best.
This is crazy i love Aqueon and swear by them over the Marineland garbage. But this did happen to me as well about 10 years ago on a 55 too. Came home to the brace snapped off and my tank bowing and insanely scary amount. I wonder if it’s the 55’s since they’re one of the first with a brace and not so wide.
I have had that problem too. I found a place online to order a new top plastic trim with the middle brace for about $15
I believe they have those exact replacement parts online.
You are lucky that you found it before something catastrophic happened. Sucks that two tanks with the same issue.
i had my neighbor that does welding bend a couple pieces of flat steel to size & painted them black when my 180 blew
Aqueon stopped making quality aquariums years ago. I stopped buying them. They used to be okay. I have had this happened on an Aqueon 55 too. So has one of my buddies. He was not sure if his was
Aqueon. Probably was! Lol
that really sucks man.. ive heard too many stories like this to buy ANY product from them or topfin.. another cheap brand.. they always look like a great deal on paper.. untill that paper gets wet

@@AQUARIUMFREAK123 I’m sure all tank manufacturers have failures but I’ve had 3 90 gallon marineland tanks for almost 30 years now with no issues.. same footprint as a 75 just taller.. and my big boy California customs tanks are doing great all these years later.. I’d just stay away from aqueon until they change their bracing.. my .02 fwiw
Long time back some 50 years. There were metal frame tanks built like tanks. In the 1970 Oceanic was a great tank. It seems to me tanks have been cheapened, quality wise. Just recently bought a215 gal. Paint Aquarium great tank well built. It seems to me that you have to buy a custom tank to get quality.
I have a 55 with the same issue. I dont know if it is an Aqueon tank. I need to get a clamp on it and see if I can use JB weld to hold it.
Omg Ben this is happening to me had to brake down the tank and relocate all my fish. On one aqueon 55g tank. Things are expensive. I wanna get it up and running again. I made a video on my channel about it if you care to watch it!
I called glass cages about it. I’m way out of where they could help me out, however the phone call was very professional and had a great discussion.
They are good people. I’m fortunate to have them down the road.
How thick is the glass ? Seems it should be thicker to handle the pressure, maybe 9 or 10 mm. My 60 is 10mm but its only 38" long 20 deep x 20 wide. So its shorter than a standard 55.

Could be the table/stands. I've had a aqueon 55 and never had problems. And I own a 75 gallon aqueon no problems, I've seen people using foam matts underneath in between the tank and stand to help level and reduce stress or bowing out from un level stands or tables
That’s a really thin canter brace. My 75 brace is a good 2 inches wide

My 1st tank was an aqueon a s when I wanted to go bigger than the 29 gallon. I talked to my LFS and they said aqueons are crap shoots every since their workers went on strike. They said Seapora tanks have the best braces of all the commercial brands. That's all I will buy. I have had good luck with the one marineland I had to buy in an emergency because my aqueon glass cracked.

Why insurance companies are asking more and more if you have an aquarium. Aqueon- inferior, low quality aquariums they should be shut down.
Aquaeon 55 gallon tank is an inferior product. I’ve heard of several people that had same thing happen to there tanks .
I'm not sure that's a fair statement. Aqueon has sold hundreds of thousands of tanks and 90... 95 percent of them sold are fine. Noboday's saying they can compete with companies like Glass Cages or Custom Aquariums, but for what you're paying for an Aqueon aquarium by comparison, I'd say you're doing alright. Especially given the fact that their warrenty is rock solid too.

Do you think the pressure of the dividers caused the problem ?
Never used a divider in the recent fail and dividers were put in the first failed tank after the brace separation.
Can I put 2 Oscar’s, Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, Blood Parrot, Severum, 3 Silver Dollars and Pleco in a 125 gallon tank?
Would expect the Oscar's to get picked on by the terror or dempsey, thier not that aggressive for a larger chiclid.
Irony. I don’t know if you have control over the ADs run on your videos but the lead in AD to this video was another tank manufacturer.
I's not a permanent fix, but couldn't something be made out of a piece of hardwood like oak or maple. Or something fabbed up from some metal bracing?

Aqueon tanks are the dollar tree products of this hobby. Expect the quality you pay for.. If you want ugly cheap plastic rims on top and bottom, and don’t care about looks and leaks, continue to buy it. The most important product to spend hard earned $ on is THE TANK. It is ridiculous to see Aqueon tanks with a pimped out Fluval FX6. It’s like a beat up $500 car with a $3000 subwoofer and sound system 😂
What would be the best tank to buy? I currently have a 55 gal and looking for a 20 gal, I’m disabled and even though I would love to upgrade it’s just not there money wise. I hear people talking about looking for free/used on FB but just don’t trust them.

Aqueon tanks are pure trash now. Just like every other company. They are now using completely shit product.
Unfortunately I sold my aqueon 265 when I got injured ,to a guy on the app Let Go ,he ending up calling me years later ,it bursted in his living room ,ruined about 3 rooms In his house , he ended up in court with them and they ending up setting,he said he was happy but it was a disaster.and yes I bought it brand new ,think they stopped making that size now but I’m not sure .
There is no way I would buy an Aqueon tank of that size ever.
