Jim Varney releasing alot of pent up rage and channeling it to perfection. He was angry and scared yet determined and strong. God Bless you Jim, love you ❤️ 💕🙏✌️
I read somewhere that to prepare for this scene he drew from a lot of personal feelings. In particularly his angry and fear from learning he had lung cancer.
OMG, I can't believe it was Jim Varney's last appearence in a movie, I apologize if I couldn't hold back tears, but this man raised lots of generations with his Ernest P. Worrell movies. So, if I had him face to face, I'd tell him; "Thank you Jim for making everyone's childhood" R.I.P..

wow a beautiful performance, I wish he would have been in more non-Ernest rolls, he was a brilliant actor. RIP Mr. Varney.😢 something I find interesting is that the people who mostly play comedy can also play some of the most intense villains.
Jim Varney was more than the loveable hick we grew up with. He was a hundred times more than that. Look up his Shakespeare video from the 80s and it makes Ernest even more enjoyable as an adult. Rest In Peace, Jim. The window's open wide for ya.
In 1998 Varney started to notice problems with his health and got diagnosed with lung cancer in August 1998. Shortly afterwards his cancer spread to brain. That movie was shot in 1999 when he was undergoing treatment that ultimately failed. He died before it was released. It was also his penultimate movie.
Ernest The Pirate was unfinished... Varney had his right lung removed.. To no avail.. Like said above moved to his brain.. Sadly.. He is One Of a Kind...
It's 2022 as I write this, and this movie still cracks my ass up! This scene always makes me laugh at the way Varney was having a major breakdown while the rest of the family carried on as if it was business as usual.
He had a lot of bad luck with things not getting produced and falling through. It happens a lot with indie cinema and the big studios wanted bigger names.
I don't think of it being sad. Sure cancer sucks and kills more people everyday then all the prescribed drug overdoses, illegal drug overdoses as well as fatal accidents and alcohol related deaths combined. Ever day. Cigarette addiction is the leading cause of lung cancer. It's also the most addictive drug. The bright side, Jim Varney brought a lot of laughter to millions of people everyday. Laughter they say is some of the best medicine. Jim Varney still helps me when I feel down. He is missed. With the internet his legacy lives.
Jim was very gifted with Shakespeare and could quote lines from memory. I would have loved to see him do a Shakespeare role opposite someone like Patrick Stewart anthony Hopkins or Ian McKellen.
@@robinstewart6422 thankful you don’t know what someone struggling looks like, this is called showing emotions. Script or not you couldn’t find that raw emotion anywhere these days.
That is odd this is cut out I just watched this today you only see him twice when his brother visits him and in court then not anymore you just hear later that the charges were being dropped maybe he didn't finish the ending?🤷
But on a second viewing of this scene they just hear of the confession here and he burst through the door immediately it wouldn't have made sense to how it played out in the actual film
Crazy how Andy Griffith's death is closer in time to John Prine's death than Jim Varney's. If Laura Dern makes it to 2040, there will have been 40 years between the deaths of actors in this scene.
What year is this movie he throwing a tantrum wow that’s awesome when he was young he didn’t throw any tantrum he was funny and he’s my childhood friend from the 80s in this movie he’s old
Jim Varney lived hard and fast. He enjoyed drink, cocaine and cigarettes along with woman. He brought a lot of laughter into the hearts and homes of millions. He had a devote following... The man was a "Genius" comic. He would have me laughing till my side hurt and tears were rolling down my face. Thanks for making the world a better place Jim Varney!!! RIP
Makes a fun story. Don't have any evidence it's true. He was married twice, was a well known inveterate chain smoker (which ultimately killed him), and was a quiet, serious actor who was talented beyond belief and criminally underrated in his time. He did definitely make the world a better place though.

Also Laura Dern!

It wasn't the only posthumous release of the film, he voiced Cookie in Atlantis: The Lost Empire in which is the last film to hear from Jim Varney.

Damn Ernest!

Tf they cut that out for? Odd.
Why was this cut, this should have been in the film
He never not go to fully show his acting chops. It's really sad.
That character for Billy Bob makes me wonder why he wasn't in Deliverance
Why did they delete this scene?
Too much over acting
It was removed so that the resolution of the family and the story would be more of a natural development instead of coming from this moment.
Why was this scene deleted
Sometimes good scenes get cut because they don't really work in the movie as a whole, and sometimes they just get cut for timing.
Was this filmed in a real house?
Poor Slinky Dog lost his marbles after Woody left the toy gang.
Cain’t even listen to Lee Greenwood anymore!! I love that line…it resonates with my East Tennessee ass
