I can't believe it took me this long to stumble across this talk. Makes me want to be a better person on every level.

Woah, that's a good panel lineup. I wish this was 2h long.

Wow talk about a superstar lineup of the people that are actually helping humanity... Makes sense it has less than 1000 views.

Are they solving world hunger, universal drinking water and homelessness?

@Embrace exactly. Most people incorrectly think parasitical billionaires have earned their keep and they think the scammed poor are parasites.

@@PakistanIcecream000 No, something much more important. Your comment is a visualisation of the entire discussion lol. People say shit like this but they don’t know anything. You’re obviously a dumb fucker but you’re still sharing your view. A view that you, I assume, hold quite firmly.
A little harsh or unfounded you may think. Okay, lets see. World hunger. The number of undernourished (not starving) people are around 500 mn. Most of that is due to 1) regional conflicts making logistics hard and 2) a temporary supple shock due to the war in Ukraine. Not great with 500 mn but it has been decreasing y-o-y for over a decade.
Now, if you have an AGI going haywire and casually murdering our entire species in order to produce paper clips, does food supply even matter?
That Thiel cares about these things are extremely important. He has access and is friends with Sam Altman (OpenAI) Elon Musk (Tesla) and many others who will build the next generation of AI. He has influence among these people and if he succeeds in making them take this problem seriously, they just might. If, in a future we have an aligned, positive and optimistic AGI supporting our species in our endevours (for example curing cancer or engineering lab grown meat) you probably wouldn’t even think about it - but perhaps there was an alternative route where if Eliezer and Peter did not care about this, we would all have been dead.
Please don’t comment unless you have thought about this problem for minimum 50 hours, thank you.

@@PakistanIcecream000 If you have an internet connection (which I assume you have due to your comment) you have a very good opportunity to become a billionaire. If you’re a mobile-only user with slow internet speed, not that great (but still possible). If you’re on desktop with a stable connection. Your opportunity to create a billion dollar fortune is very good. The only one being scammed is you, by you.

@@Continential That’s not true. The problem with becoming a billionaire is that its a very hard and challenging endevour. Who would have thought..

Right, and Yudkowsky on top of that. But Thiel+Grey was a real surprise to me because I later discovered that Thiel was Grey's primary investor. It's great to know that at least one billionaire of them all is enough of a freethinker to recognize the importance of biogerontology.

Peter Thiel gave $3.5M to the Methusela Foundation and he's also given money to Cynthia Kenyon, who is also a great researcher on anti-aging. I hope Thiel gets his billionaire buddies to kick in many more millions for research. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to live 300+ years of healthy life.

I think I heard a similar thing where there was an emergency and so someone yelled "Call 911" but then nobody did it because they assumed someone else would do it

these people are creating the problems , but they do have alot invested in saving the world with all those big companies, they say they are willing to break the rules about careing about the way other people think , i think slavery is immoral or placing people in unwilling servitude by changing the enviroment around them is imoral but shouldnt think they would care because they became slaves along time ago , i wish someone would set them free and get them some help because they obviously all have serious mental health problems , big luv guys dont worry about saving me or my kin to come we are all still connected to reality so its much easier to survive when conscious thought is applied xxx
