3:57 - Babies can't have honey because it could give them botulism. I learned that from my mom as a kid when she ran a home daycare. That is when I learned what botulism is.
Canning is extremely useful for preservation since once locked nothing can get in As for cooking meat to prevent food poisoning, cooking won’t make meat edible if it’s expired since the poison part is from bacteria waste and cooking can’t remove it If the spam was canned correctly it should be edible… but it could have gone through some kinda pickling, or could have had some bacteria in before it was canned
I grew up on spam and so it holds a special place in my heart. That said, is it the best thing out there? no not at all. I rarely eat it anymore, but when i do , i fry it up, and cover it in mustard. Also being from pennsylvania, we consider things far worse than spam as delicacies. Pon haus aka scrapple, hog maw, and my favorite "country pudding". Botulism can occur in canned foods that are not sealed properly or whose seal has been broken after the canning process (during shipping, etc.). And there is not in fact a limit to cooking food to make it SAFE. Meaning it is free of any bacteria, viruses, or parasites that could cause you to become ill or die. There is however a limit to cooking food to make it still edible in the sense that it wont hurt your stomach (if the cooked food you are eating is so old or rotten it isn't really digestible).
