- Covers. Here's what Ghost had to say about covering Enter Sandman for the Blacklist album:
"The concept of making covers, and I'm not trying to in any way... All the songs that we've ever covered have been subpar songs that we wanted to fix. But sometimes when you decide to cover something, at least in my world, at least in my head, in my heart, I feel that I need to do something to them that either puts it forward in terms of sound - it could be something that's simple - or there's some sort of skewing with it.
If you played in a heavier metal band, you have played Metallica songs. That's rudimentary. But ever since, I haven't sort of played that in bands simply because it's all almost holy ground in the sense that their songs are so done. They are complete. They're like Stanley Kubrick films of metal. You don't do a remake of 'Shining.' I know that one exists but you don't do that. And you don't fuck around with their tracks. So halfway through the conversation upon just being asked the question, I was like, 'God, what am I gonna do?'

I give it 7/10. And Enter Sandman from Weezer is better .
You were kinda wanting them to just replicate the original and there's absolutely no point in doing that, since the original exists and it's out there. The whole point was to cover it putting their own style without completly twisting the essence of the song and that said, they did it just PERFECTLY.
You HAD to know that Tobias wouldn't do Metallica dirty like that. He's a huge fan too. Have you checked out Ghost's new album? I'm loving Watcher in the Sky
The album is awesome! Been listening to it daily.
Tbh I like this version better than the original, but I'm hella autistic and live and breathe everything Ghost related so I'm a little biased. I like the smoother vocals better along with the instrumentals for the most part, mainly bc of the piano. But it's neat seeing other people's thoughts and also really funny seeing how you reacted at the beginning 💀💀💀

they made it their own thats why its so good.. you do know that theres a live performance of this song infront of metallica, like they played this version infront of metallica.
enter sandman is one of my all time favorite songs. ghost has been my favorite band for the last 6+years. i love what they've done with it. i love the keyboard weaving in and out of the tune. they played it when i saw them last winter. the crowd went nuts.
The enter sandman transition was kind of amazing. The way it started had me like wtf is this lol glad it changed. Great review Max rock on 🤘🏼

Cool cover. Some songs can't be made better but one can try to make a cool cover. I think Ghost succeeded in doing a cool cover.
Like Steve'n'Seagull's (what ever their name is) cover of AC/DC's Thunderstruck. That's a cool cover too but the song is already perfect.
The kid who repeats the prayer in the Ghost version is actually Tobias' son :)

You should definitely listen to respite of the spitalfields, it's a ghost song the vocals are more raspy tha usual

I was going to give it a 7/10 at first, but that song is impossible to take on as a cover and not have people shit on it. The fact that I actually liked it made me give it a little extra for taking on such a tough challenge lol
funny to see another point of view, for me the Weezer cover is the weakest because the song is too similar from the original, Ghost make it their own, it's kinda good, for me the better cover is by Alessia Cara and The Warning ;)

I love Ghost in all their Satanic majesty; Tobias Forge is an amazing songwriter and knows how to deliver punches and hooks in his metal. His previous covers are all deliciously twisted in his own style. When they stooped down to cover this song, I was a bit bummed. Sure it's creepy and haunting, but Ghost can do so much better. Thanks for being merciful.
Ghost isn't a favorite of mine, and not really a band I often listen to. They're good, but not for me. His voice is a little, too clean for Enter Sandman in my opinion. This cover isn't bad, the soft beginning is a little too long for me, would make me fall asleep in the truck, however I'd definitely rock to it.
