You've mentioned the 'partial refund' scam a few times and it finally happened to me today. I sold a Switch game and the buyer messaged me saying it wasn't working which I knew to be unlikely because I had tested it before listing. Instead of doing what I might have done before and offering a partial refund I took your advice and apologized for the inconvenience and offered to refund them if they wanted to start a return though eBay. I got a message back about 10 min later saying they got it to work suddenly haha. Thanks as always for your great advice!

I actually just had this happen. I had a policy violation on a product that was not legal to sell in Germany but legal in the US. It was a simple fix, I turned off international shipping and it was fixed. I felt this was worth mentioning. Thank you for your content.

This is a good point that I should have mentioned! I assumed that this was an item what was against eBay policy regardless of location, but it's a good reminder to make sure it's not something that is restricted in certain locations only.

Regarding the NIB vs Open Box comment. Beware of fraud swapping on high ticket items. I once sold a very expensive printer ($500) that was factory sealed in box. This was a heavy 40lb HP Laserjet. I had taken photos of the box sealed and the serial number on the box for the listing. The buyer initiated a return and swapped an old janky HP printer and claimed I had shipped that to him. eBay initially sided with the buyer even though I had proof the printer was a completely different model, it was used and yellowing, and had a different serial number. I ended up appealing and luckily won the case, but I lost out on the return shipping which was around $65. eBay refused to refund the return shipping label.
So now I open boxes on most high ticket items and take photos of the serial number of the actual product. In my listing I state this is the reason for opening the box. Yes, it can put off some buyers, but it gives me peace of mind.

The other week you sold a rack you salvaged out of a dishwasher you were replacing. So, when my microwave died, I pulled the 10-5/8" glass plate out of it and said, this is reusable. I looked it up on Amazon and saw that the same plate fits not only the Toshiba microwave it came out of, but ones made by GE, Panasonic, Galanz and Farberware as well. I looked it up on ebay and saw 894 active listings and zero sold. On Terrapeak, one sold in 2022 and one in 2023. So, applying the lessons learned here at Justin University, I decided that, sadly, with a sell through rate of zero, it isn't worth listing. Thank you! You saved me some time.

The cost of a thermal printer and thermal labels are a drop in the bucket compared to the gas you will burn and the wear and tear you will put on your car if you drive to the post office every day. That doesn't even factor in time you will waste driving to the post office and the time wasted waiting in line to print the labels. Print at home, and schedule a free daily pickup with the USPS.

Hi Justin, glad u had a great vaca! U said u list ab 5 items per day. I remember u once saying it takes ab a 1/2 hr to list. That baffles my mind. It takes me much longer than that just to take photos of 2 items, edit them, look ‘em up to sell similar, edit out the other sellers info, work on key words for the title, strategy pricing, weighing + measurements. Please tell me that 1/2 hr for 5 items can happen for me as well! Or what I am doing wrong. (Oh! I just bought lighting to help with the editing part :)… Signed, Sad but hopeful 😑

I ALWAYS open new boxes anyway only because I work at a thrift store and ppl are very clever at "resealing" boxes to even look 'factory packaged' packaged, I did open something once at home that was in fact 'not new in box' so I always let buyers know at bottom of description that box was only opened to insure it is in fact "new" and I haven't had any complaints or I just mark that it was removed only for photo purposes😊

Thanks for all your quality content Justin. I just cracked 6k gross within my first 90 days and I thank you and other content creators for your wealth of knowledge on the subject of reselling!
    My question is,
When creating a bundle of like or similar items, how do you go about finding a price? Do you find the individual price and add them up to find a price, do you adjust a percentage off of that total or do you take the time to find the exact same bundle when researching the price you want to list it for? It seems some of the bundles I do sell overnight, or don't sell at all despite similar sales of bundles in the same category so any advice you could give would be most excellent!
    Thanks again,

Hey Justin!…in regards to the QR vs. Printed label…
I have found the QR the most reliable as well as cheapest. Dropping an item off at the post office in the bin or on the counter is fast but isn’t a “SCAN”…although not often, I have had USPS never scan and without it been on the hook for refunding the buyer.
The second advantage is 24hr drop offs…this leaves me free to spend time finding items during the day and leaving shipping for after thrift stores close.

I have a crappy HP printer that doesnt always want to print, so the eBay QR codes are great for me when I'm in a pinch like that, or out of ink or sticky labels. HOwever, just like you said, I don't really recommend it for more than 5 labels unless you can carefully keep track of what label goes with each package. For example, at my local post offices they do not have the self service machines so I need to actually have the worker behind the counter print them, and that's when things can get hairy cos they require I hand over all the packages to them first, not one at a time lol sooooo yeah. I gotta be careful. I'm hoping FBMP starts to implement these soon because I had several orders from there recently and my printer crapped out on me and it was a such a big hassel to get the labels printed.

Great job with your Q&A's! You have said an item is worth a price and you list fixed shipping for all your stuff at that price. When I list I figure my high shipping price just excludes people too far away so your fixed price has appeal. I just loaded my first big box of items listed, now starting on my second box. I haven't done this yet but I think on my next listings I will add number on the listing just for me to know what box it is in. Don't go to thrift stores anymore because they have an internal eBay selling account and all the good stuff gets listed. So even garage sales up there prices now because of your videos. Be VERY careful doing what?

Hey Justin, you've mentioned before that you use Flipwise to track your cost of goods on items. I'm also using Flipwise, but this only let's me keep track of COGs once an item is listed. Do you have any tips for keeping track of purchases for your death pile or drafts? Obviously receipts are best, but sometimes they aren't very specific and it can be hard to remember. At this point, I'm just taking pictures and writing specific notes on when/where/what I buy, but this does take extra time. Thanks for your videos!

I currently don't, but I've heard doing so will increase the % of items you sell. Similar to how you've shown on flipwise that your sales went up after you started doing promoted listings, do you have any data to prove this is true? I only list comics and I'm mainly concerned that someone might just read the comic and return it. Thanks!

I always open sealed packages and sell as opened box. Unless they are in sealed clamshells that are impossible to open.
You're risking it if you don't. Watch Pro Picker's video where he discovered something he bought as new was not what it was supposed to be.
It's just not worth it to risk it. I show pictures of it sealed. Then pictures of it after it is opened.
If I lose a few bucks, oh well. Better than having someone tell you it was not was listed inside... And then wondering if I got scammed... before or after
I might make an exception on something that may eventually be graded such as a VHS or LP

If it has a brand name (and is not authentic), that’s a counterfeit/fake. A dupe is something made to look like something. So, many brands make dupes or “knock offs”, but with their own brand. I would stay away from counterfeit altogether; it’s against ebay policy.

He was selling one of kind athletic shoes certain athletes and celebrities for as much as $50K since had acquired them through a third or fourth party he could not prove chain of sales

If it is under $20 I would just refund him and tell him to keep it. Otherwise he is likely to file an item not as described complaint and give you a negative feedback. If you are doing eBay you have to accept you are going to screwed on items from time to time. If you had a brick and mortar store you be dealing with returns and thefts. eBay is all about customer satisfaction. Better to refund, especially on low value items than rack up item not as described complaints

We hide the storage location after it has been marked as shipped because presumably it is no longer stored in that location. Hello!
Got another question for ya. If I am using the flipwise software and I end and sell similar so the old listing has a new ID then is there a way to merge past information from the old listing such as the original date of how long its been since I actually bought the item or no? I Know you have said before you do a lot of ending and sell similar but seems you keep things such as the original listing date shown. Would that be a setting to be automatic or do you have to remember the date and just input it manually after you have ended and sell similar on an older item? Thanks!
